Helpful and friendly staff.
Staff were very friendly and prompt Room was noisy being on the main road at a junction. I think if two people had been in the room there would have been a lack of space around the bed area as it was a funny shaped room.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was very small but that didn't really bother us. Despite the double glazing and being on the ninth floor, we heard the noise of the traffic all night.
The staff were absolutely first class from the moment we walked through the door from the booking in people at reception, the bar staff and chambermaids.excellent No complaints
Good location Small rooms with tiny bathrooms - adequate for a single traveler on business with no luggage but not a Five star hotel and nothing like the pictures on the website.
The room was a good size, nicely decorated, clean. Facilites included TV, stereo, air conditioning which is very important. Bathroom clean with nice toiletries.
Good quality fitments Small room
The staff are extremely helpful and location is excellent. The television selection is poor and internet costs far too much.
Staff was very nice and helpful. The swimming pool is big, facilities are clean. The room was not big but sufficient for a familly with 2 kids. The bathroom was clean, with a bathtube but the w.c. inside. The breakfast was delicious, but a bit expensive. A pity that the swimming pool has restricted hours for kids when you have kids but it must be appreciated for those who have not.
Location of hotel was fairly near the tube station and other faciltites nearby When I checked inot the hotel, I had to wait a long time whilst they were checking my booking.I Needed an extra bed and they offered to upgrade me to a family suite afor another 103.50pounds. They then charged me 724.50 for the 3 nights stay.I Realised later that they had overcharged me by 10 pounds because the original booking was 611 pounds. When I queried them the next day,I had to go through 2 other staff before they refunded me 10 pounds overcharge. I hope I have not been billed twice ie once by my initial booking through your website and then by the Grange Holborn hotel.
Proximity to underground and centre of London .yet quiet. This was a shopping trip so convenient for Oxford St and Marrlebone Road. Considering how small the room was, it was quiote well equipped. Double bed was so small. Asked if there was a room with larger bed, but told they were all the same size. Hotel was full so no option to change to two singles. Not good for anyone over 5ft 10 inches.
it was coveniently situated for Radisson Edwardian Hotel, which is where we needed to be that evening poor service in the bar, exorbitant charges for drinking water, spartan room and bathrom, noise in the morning from street and plumbing
Hassle free check in and out. Very convenient to where I was working in Gordon Square, Bloomsbury and blessed by a 24 hour car park adjacent to the hotel itself and with shops very close. The room was without half of its secondary glazing which meant that it was particularly noisy due to the proximity of nearby pubs late at night into early morning. Reception acknowledged this aspect on departure but failed to offer an explanation for the absence of part of the system.
Excellent location Staff did not understand a small glass of wine and kept serving and charging for medium glasses
Great room and food None
The security arrangements were good - eg lift doesn't work to go to upper floors unless bedroom key card is inserted. The breakfast was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. I thought the bedrooms were rather small for a 4-star London hotel
Friendly, polite and helpful staff, clean facility. Good location. Noisy room location above delivery dock, construction noise one night until 11 pm. Extremely poor acoustics in restaurant (am acoustic specialist in N. America) very hard surfaces, floor, walls, ceiling and other multiple reflective surfaces make for most unpleasant experience resulting in avoiding restaurant second time.
Room was clean and right next to the Russell square underground entrance. Room was small, wifi wasn't free and the room smelled, but in their defense we didn't ask to change rooms. Kind of pricy for a holiday inn.
The hotel provides a consistent level of frienliness, efficiency and comfort. it is well placed for shopping , sisgt seeing and business (city of London banks etc).
The hotel is very well located, close to tube stations. the room is small and facilities require renewing. some broken (faucet, door handle etc.). price is very high and is not a decent return for the money
Easy access of subway, restaurants&pubs and shopping center No fridge in the rooms so no possibility of drinking cold beverage
Location was convenient Was cold, old and dirty
Good size room Renovating the place, no heating in room
Hotel is clean and comfortable. Rooms are well appointed. Location is superb. Good value for money in a city renowned for overpriced hotels. Check-out was a bit haphazard, otherwise no complaints
The staff was exceptional...friendly and helpful....willing to go out of their way to assist. Would stay there again. Gym was excellent and the breakfast was very good.....breakfast was available until 11AM on weekends. Met all our needs.
Excellent time at this hotel! Everyone was very friendly! Nothing :)
Location is great. Bed was fine and apples were a nice touch. Gym was okay. Staff was horrible. There were months in the closet--I killed three. They did a lousy job cleaning in general. The sinks and counters were not even wiped down. There was toothpaste/grim residue not wiped up half of the days I stayed there. Dirty dishes owned by the Hilton were left for, literally, a week. The cleaning staff tossed my water bottle even though it was with wrapped up my clothes on top of my luggage and then denied it. I tried to explain the problem with needing a size of plastic bottle for security. They made a lame attempt to make it right after two hours of waiting and complaining, but they could not be bothered to listen or understand the actual problem, so the solution did not work. Great location, but I would never go back. There is no accountability.
The hotel staff was helpful with solving problems that was generated by Kayak/Hotel.com (wrong number of beds in room) while booking. Location is excellent. For a big family like us that needs place to "gather" together the lobby was very useful. Booking by Kayak/Hotel.com generated problems. Number of adults and children per room was not deliver to the hotel. When I asked Hotel.com to change the reservation through the website , NO respond. Rooms are a bit small.
access to city centre
Location of hotel for bars, restaurants and shopping all available within walking distance. Room clean and spacious compared to other London hotels I have stayed in. The fact that there was building work in progress and scaffolding in situe which I understand from reviews on other sites has been going on for quite a while at this hotel.
We arrived to the builders in reception..complete with hard hats and hard viz jackets! There had been no mention of the major refurb going on when booking. I'm sure it will be very nice when finished, but not really the first thing you want to see when entering your hotel.. I'd received a call the day before check-in to see if my booking for two colleagues double rooms (for single occupancy) could be changed to single rooms - I said not, particularly as payment was immediately taken from my card two/three weeks before on booking and the rooms were for business clients. Although I was then told 'ok..not a problem..' this was ignored...and they were put in to single rooms on arrival!
Breakfast service is very nice. The room was extremely small, poorly furnished and noisy.
location for theatre and access to transport system obviously unavoidable but there was some building work taking place to the hotel
Location and friendly, informative staff
The location and cost Rooms are very small, though are typical for London. Room was on a very very noisy road and difficult to sleep
Rooms are hot and small.
Location My room
very pleasant stay, just right for the theatre and the shops!
The location, very quiet, relax. The spacios of me beedrom was little
Location and comfort of room. Bathroom was decent size.
Location Slow lifts
The attention to any and all details was excellent. The staff in both the front and the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. Nothing
The Hotel was an excellent location for Covent Gardens only 5 mins walk dow the road. The staff were excellent couldnt do enough for you ven upgraded our room for free. Would def return. There was nothing we didnt like, the breakfast was lovely, hotel was so clean and the staff were Fantastic.
The service was very good and SKY rugby was a bonus! The room could have been bigger and the air-con was a bit noisy.
Excellent breakfast buffet included in room rates. Hotel staff are attentive and helpful. Scoff & Banter restaurant/bar has limited dinner menu and cocktail options.
I found the location perfect for sightseeing. The room was very nice and as a venue is was very good also. Food was excellent:-) I was a shame I wasn't able to access the internet. The solution you have chosen at the hotel did not work for me as my company (banking) apparently have restrictions which make it impossible to lock on to a web browser before the internet access is given...
We liked the modern decor. Our room was facing the road and was extremly noisy.
Great shower. No wifi in room Convoluted route to room.
Great location for shopping and the theatres and most of the main sites to see. Also had a great breakfast. Size of the room could have been larger for the price paid.
Facilities and location
Central position for Theatres etc
Staff is very very kind, cleaning is not the best inside the whole structure, but inside our room is basically good. Some very little I repeat very little details that make the difference for this very high level hotel: the holder for hygenic paper was broken, the hairdryer tubular was rapaired with insulating tape and for this reason it was a little sticky, the bath tub had very little splinterings on edge, the window was stopped with a piece of folded paper and in conclusion the tv controller had not the cover for the batteries and it was replaced with a certainly sticky coloured tape .
The size of the room - very spacious Not applicable
The TV Breakfast issues No knowlege of local area Language barriers
The upgrade to a superb room on the top floor - couldn't fault it unless that was the deluxe double that had been originally booked. Excellent hotel and well placed for business meetings in the City.
Excellent location, nicely renovated, modern hotel We stayed at the end of November and it was exceptionally cold in London. The hotel room was cold and the heater made terrible noise, but had to be on all the time. No heating in the otherwise beautiful bathroom.
Cozy, comfortable, great value for money. Very attentive and polite personnel. Strategic location
Location of hotel was great. Oxford Street, Restaurants,Theatres and Tube station, all within 5 minute walk. Hotel very comfortable. Staff very helpful.
The location and the cleanliness are factors which lead me to book, in supplement I experienced an extraordinary friendly staff. Furthermore I adore the hotel's mixture of traditional and new barock style. It was tropically hot in our room. There is no air-condition in this hotel. The window was to small to let efficiently enough fresh air into the room (temperature outside like 17°). They provided a fan, but I'm a type of person who catches a cold when I'm sleeping with a fan directed at me. Due to this I had remarkable troubles to get to sleep.
Spacious and comfortable. Quiet; good breakfast.
practical for my reason visiting London. have stayed a umber of times. Lighting in the bedroom. No bedside lights. Overhead light too strong. Room was cold
Location, Clean First room was verry small then we change the secon room and was ok. I try to use your business center facility but the computer and printer does't work properly. I spend 40 min for internet checkin for flight.
Very close to Covent Garden and Oxford Street The room did not have air conditioning and was like an oven. We had to keep the small fan provided in the room going all night.
Very out dated in need of refurb. no AC too hot room service food very
Very central to all our needs.
Nice blend of modern facilities ina traditional building. Quiet, comfortable room and everything just a cut above hotels at a similar price in the area.
The staff were brilliant Needs Air Con
Friendly staff with a clean and comfortable room.
Location was very good A little expensive for what it was...
Good location. Excellent air conditioning. The room had a strong smell of disinfectant / air freshener. The shower did not work.
The rooms were very nice and well equipped. Based only on this, I would stay here again. The renovations were very intrusive. No elevator access, except through a service elevator, which was always jammed at peak times. No stairs access below the 1st floor, which besides being inconvenient, made me wonder about safety in a fire. No hot water on the second day was literally "icing" on the cake. I have to remember that eventually the renovations will be complete, so I actually might give this place another shot.
The staff at all levels were friendly, helpful and courteous. Excellent Dark and small rooms. I would not have stayed had I realised the huge amount of refurbishment going on.
design of room was good (tastefully decorated). Bed/linen very adequate Boiler broke down on 26.11.10 and no hot water for shower or even a wash...only gave 10% discount for inconvenience . Also.. lift not working (had to use staff lift the corridors/reception was a building site...there were no stairs to 1st floor and could not establish where the fire excape was (and staff could not provide that information) Breakfasts were not included in tariff
I loved the central location,Excellent for a short stay
Nice amenities. Great location. Air conditioning never cooled room completely during a warm spell.
V friendly staff Too hot !
Hotel convenient for tube and acces to London The hotel was being revamped - lift inadequate. Heating did not work. Staff coped as best they could
The location was excellent. I work in holborn and was easily able to walk in. Covent garden very close. The attitude of the staff when the boiler failed. Discourteous and off hand. Almost made me feel that it was my fault. No offer of complimentary breakfast, reduced rate. Not even an apology
What a gem of a hotel a superb find. From the moment we arrived to the moment we departed we felt special. The staff were outstanding, their eye for detail the friendliness. We own a group of companies employing many people and was well impressed with the high standard that was set.Needless to say we will return and recomend this hotel.well done staff Yes.We didnt stop for more than two nights
Quality of staff rooms too small
Close to all attractions, lovely and quiet, very clean, nice staff
We were upgraded to a really excellent room.
Excellent location: quiet street, but walking distance from British Museum, West-End Theatres, Soho, and even the City highlights. Staff are most friendly and customer-oriented! We experienced a nightly fire-alarm, which wasn't fun, but there was no fire in the end, and the staff handled this very well! Good restaurant, fine wine list. Rooms are nicely decorated, but small. Breakfast far too expensive!
very friendly and helpful staff. room was very nicely decorated and excellent facilities
This hotel was simply excellent!
Excellent location. Tiny but cozy room with a good noice reduction. Small size of rooms.
The best affortable hotel in London in my opinion. Perfect location to visit and shop. Free wifi in the rooms. Rooms are small but so cosy.
Staff were excellent, called the day before to inform them my daughters sixth birthday and to ask if there was anything that could be done, they were great and purchased a cake. When we checked in they then upgraded us to a suite at no extra charge and proceeded to show us to our room. We walked in and they had a birthday candle on the cake lit. My girl was excstatic, overall one if the best and friendliest hotels I have stayed In. Will certainly stay again.
We were very fortunate to be upgraded to a suite, we also found the staff to be very helpful. No
The staff were very attentive and helpful and the room was very well planned and spacious for such a central location.
Location, room size, cleanliness, bathroom Lower price would be good ;)
Super cozy hotel and cenral located
The staff at the hotel are very helpful and communicate well if there are any problems. We would have preferred to have breakfast at the hotel but the very high prices meant it was poor value for money.
Nice room, great location Expensive food, not much of a bar in the hotel but the surrounding area has excellent bars and cafes so it's not a big problem
location, style, nice staff, fast check in and out, near beautiful garden, clean, room has tea maker, close to british musem. AC was down for all my stay (5 nights and then 3 nights) and each time I report problem they say they are going to check then I knew its all the hotel and it was really hot. short bed (my legs out of the bed even i am 175 cm), small bed, rooms in floors other then ground are leveled by at least 10 degrees (my head was down and my leg was up) that made bad stay. I changed to ground floor and room was very small. no refregrater (I couldn't have cold water) expensive breakfast 17.25 pound each with few choices. they good thing they provided fan.
Staff, courteous, friendly and efficient. Would like fresh drinking water in room.
The hotel is very convenient and well-located, and the staff were helpful and friendly. Free wireless internet is a big plus for me. The street is charming. The rooms are small and the whole place feels a bit run down. The carpets could really use a cleaning. The breakfast room is cramped and unpleasant. For North Americans travelers, it's a bit of a shock to see what you get for your money when it comes to London hotels.
Location was perfect. Breakfast was great. Had been told in the beginning that rooms in UK were small so I wasn't disappointed. Also, being an old building/hotel, I thought the maintenance was fine. There was nothing I didn't 'like', it's more it was difficult to adjust to not being able to use hair dryers in the bathroom. Would have been nice if the place had an elevator too, especially taking luggage up/down a spiral staircase.
Location for city also tube stations, good restaurents, bars shops and theatres nearby We were staying on 3rd. floor only accessable by stairs no staff available to assist us with luggage
Location good, rooms tatsefull although attric room a litlle cramped. Hallways a little worn, breakfast service slighly rushed. Taffif rate inappropraite for style of hotel- discount rate aid was fine.
Location, Cleanliness, Friendliness No
the rooms are well designed and very clean, the showers are hot & powerful and breakfast is fresh and satisfying. location is great for oxford street and soho nothing
The airconditioning in the room the excellent bed the service of the staff nothing; back in London I wil stay there again
No Hot Water until 1730 !
The location is very good; central but still quiet. Comfortable room and a good breakfast. Nothing.
The room was well maintained and comfortable. Good breakfast. The room was facing with Gower Street and the traffic noise was a little annoying.
Reception staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly, rooms very clean tidy and comfortable, dining room for breakfast very clean, good choice of food and good service. Hotel was also in excellent location, easy access from Tube and close to many major attractions.
Very friendly and knowledgable staff on reception. Excellent location for shopping and site seeing. I did find the rooms very warm. Did not take breakfast so cannot comment on the food.
Location was excellent, not even 5 minutes walk from The British Museum; Russell Street & Tottenham Court Road tube stations were very close. Not a reflection on the hotel, but the area was quite noisy - although it was a Saturday night - people walking past in the early hours talking really loudly and service vehicles collecting bottles very early in the morning. However it wouldn't stop me staying here again - even though I do think the room rate was quite expensive with no breakfast included.
The friendly staff, location of hotel The rooms were very small, fine for a weekend but for a longer stay claustrofobic. And it was hard to understand why we had to stand in line very long for everything at the frontdesk, while there were three persons behind it, but only one who seemed to know what had to be done
easy reach of the west end and shows the rooms showen on booking.com are Not the rooms allocated they are at least half the size and very small
To sleep there beside the noise from the street in the morning. Small room size. Half of the room shown on photos on booking.com. Noisy street in the morning on business days. No rooms available on the yard side despite booking two months in advance with proper note on this regard in booking form. The hotel just didn't pay attention to this note.
A group of 8 of us booked this hotel due to the good reviews and location for a birthday celebration to watch Jersey Boys. Check in was punctual and polite. Emailed the hotel the day before requesting rooms looking over the gardens, which was granted. No hot water the next day due to boiler problem but staff very apologetic and free breakfast offered. Cannot fault the stay and will stay here again.
Clean with good decor Strange and strong smell towards the room (sort of like damp!) Breakfast £20+ is a discgrace - that has to be 1000% mark up!!!
I liked the room very much and the bathroom was wonderful! I was so surprised! I also liked that I got the newspaper at the door.
they helped me to get information about train times and flight confirmations they also upgraded me for the same price because a room looking onto the quieter part was available. All staff were polite and helpful. I don't like sleeping in a room in the basement. I like to have fresh air at night and open the window but for safety reasons I didn't. The room and the corridor outside sometimes smelt damp.
The room was very spacious with the facilities expected of such a hotel. The staff were very friendly £46 for 2 breakfasts is over the top
nice ambiance in reception area and small sitting area, help yourself bar a nice touch from another age. Comfortable bed, Moulton Brown toiletries
Location! The price of breakfast was ridiculous! So we didnt get it.
Extractor fan not working in bathroom
The location - quiet and convenient (but please also read separate 'complaint') Bed was a 4 poster, but very squeaky, to the point that it woke us up each time we turned over in bed (also: please see seperate general complaint about this booking).
The service of your receptionist was excellent and warming. I had requested a specific room overlooking the court yard and got what I asked for. After realizing that there is a room "002" directly on the court yard I asked if I could see the room and without hesitation I was able to change no questions asked and no quarms. Ice service:-( Apparantly ice service was on at 6pm and I was out and about until late hours and would have loved a cold drink.
Close to where I needed to be the next day Easy access to Oxford St etc Good sized room (for London) Really excellent if you wanted to spend time at the British Museum None
This hotel is perfectly located for the British Museum, it is quiet and within walking distance of Soho and Euston Station.
Delightful upmarket charm, tradition and comfort. Excellent service, good rooms and facilities. Our room (2) had a balcony looking into the hidden garden. Very good value for this fantastic location next to Russel Square and the British Musem. Internet should be free and the breakfasts are very expensive.
Well appointed boutique hotel in a convenient location.
Check in/out was efficient.
The hotel is clean and comfortable with well equipped and quiet rooms.
paid for breakfast what a waste of money.plastic ham also chicken the cheese was curled up at the edges.could not be worse.
Some of the staff were helpful, polite and keen to assist. Room was small, room service menu was petite, prices for food including breakfast were expensive. Not impressed that advertised facilities such as the restaurant were located at another hotel situated at the end of the road. The window leaked and was falling off the hinges and the gaps had been stuffed with toilet roll. Overall impression was that the hotel was not properly maintained and was in need of some modernisation and general maintenance. I experienced some checking out problems which I was asked for a fax cancelling the booking. After explaining that I dont carry a fax machine in my suitcase and several calls to booking.com I was allowed to check out the following day.
Very central hotel, friendly staff, clean room. Maybe the room was a bit small, although very comfortable.
Excellent location, smooth service, ok facilities, nothing to complain about. Very good for the price level, and excellent if you have to get to an early meeting in the city.
I liked best the retro style of the hotel, especially the fireplace in my room. The wind goes trough the windows, even when they are closed.
Very nice surprise as I was expecting less No
Easy access near Underground and pub and park. Small and convenient.
Great location nearby, underground station, Russel Square and Covent Garden.
The very large bathroom & close proximity to tube station. Upon first arrival we were given very small room on smoking floor, so we changed.
The size of the Junior suite was wonderful! The room was a little old and had some cracks in the wall joints. They didn't have any pull in area if you arrive by car. We weren't aware of this from the descriptions and had to drive around the area to find a parking garage and then roll our luggage a few blocks to the hotel.
big bathroom and unique decoration of the room. there was no fridge and safe box in the room. there is no concierge most of the time. staff are not professional.
the athmosphere I had a double room which was evidently a converted single very small no easy chair, insufficient room for clothes and luggage
simply the way in which the staff treated us with so much respect, after we had a couple of problems with our room to start with, they showed alot of kindness, booked us into a different hotel for the first night, free of charge, and then upgraded us to a lovely room for our second night stay in london, we felt very well looked after.
the three consierge gentlemen we spoke to were very helpful Staff maybe might smile. If applicable make sure you get your Harrods voucher. We had to ask even though it was included in our package.
Very nice Hotel. Easy access to public transport. Dealing of staff is very good. If i would visit London again, would definitely prefer to stay there.
Hotel room was warm and comfortable, as the weekend weather was poor it was nice to get back to an inviting room. Delay in breakfast - although once we got fed it was great.
I have stayed at Hotel Russell now a number of times, both as a single traveler in a single room, a twin room with my mother, and a double room with my husband. All rooms were comfortable and spacious enough for our needs and comfort. Breakfasts are very good quality too! Staff polite and helpful and location brilliant. I couldn't stay longer!!
The food was excellent, the staff most helpfull. The first room offered was very very poor ,we had to pay extra to get an half decent room
The hotel has an excellent location and a very nice atmosphere. I also enjoyed the restaurant recommendations made by the concierge. The room was a bit noísy (I lived on the second floor).
