It was a quick and easy hotel, no problems at all and the building inside was stunning with a balcony opposite my friends flat. Couldnt have asked for a better hotel for what i needed. According to my parents, the nightclubs below provided a nice screaming band at 5 in the morning. But thats not the hotels fault i suppose! And the location is in the heart of the city so it is to be expected.
The most i liked about El Coloso was its location in the city. To me it seemed like a 3 star hotel. I expected a better quality.
It is located in a street close to Gran Via, very close to the Palace and the city center. The rooms were quite ok, not very luxureous. Bedding good. Breakfast buffet was sumpteous and good. We stayed here in winter but the rooms were to warm at night and we couldn't sleep with the windows open because the street is quite noisy at night.
very close to an attractive street and metro&bus stops
the location is excellent it is rated as a 4 star but would not reach 3 stars in my book, the finish was not there. The staff however, was excellent, and the location great, but the quality of the room was substandard.
It is very convenient to the city centre. We returned to our room at 11.30 - check out was 12.00 noon, only to find the room was already locked.. not convenient, but matter was resolved quickly by the maid.
The desk clerk was nice and polite After staying in Europe for 2 weeks this was by far the worst and not worthy of 4 stars! It was old with a musty smell. The air conditioner did not work, the shower did not work, the third bed was broken. The walls outside the room looked terrible. It is bad need of updating
i did not have a confortable stay at this hotel as the aircondition in my room was not working and the staff did not gave me a proper solution.
Very convenient for the metro and restaurants Very noisey during the night.
The location was excellent, metro nearby to connect to the airport (2 euro each way!) and the rest of the city and the hotel was in walking distance to shop and to visit different tourist sites. The location of the hotel felt very safe as there is a police station 2 doors down. Staff were very helpful with directions and queries about Madrid. In addition, we had a late flight the last day and the hotel kept our luggage till we needed it, allowing us to roam freely around Madrid for the last few hours! Brilliant service!! Would definitely recommend this hotel. Everything was great to be honest, a very very small thing would be the springs in the bed were noisy, making noise for every small movement even though the bed was actually comfortable. This was a bit annoying, but I would not let it allow it to undermine the hotels excellent features!
Location Rooms needed new paint on walls. Minor repairs would have made a lot of difference.
The location couldn't have been better and although the hotel wasn't anything special it was clean and comfortable...and really good value! It was a bit "worn out"...but really nothing to complain about.
Good location. The hotel staff were not helpful and provided incorrect information when requested. The bed size was not large, as reported at the time of booking and the staff responded that for bigger bed, we need to pay extra fee. Breakfast was served badly and lacked food.
clean, new furniture, conveniently located no hot water twice in 4 days due to problems with the boiler! I hope it was just an occasional problem
Front desk staff was very helpful. The hotel is centrally located. Our towels were not changed during a three night stay. The safe in our room did not work and even though we reported it, it was not fixed for the duration of our stay.
Very centrally located, excellent breakfast, clean, plenty of hot water, quiet, good staff. Small room for 3 people, uncomfortable beds, small old bathroom, heating not working properly
that the hotel is downtown
Hotel was clean, quiet and right in the center of Madrid. All in all, good value for money. The family room was quite small for 3-4 persons. The air conditioning device was old, a bit noisy, and had difficulty at times coping with the sweltering heat outside.
The location is excellent, in the center of the city, near from two metro station, some theaters and restaurants. The breakfast was disorganized end staffs of the restaurant were antiparticle. Recommender to eat en front of the hotel , en restaurant VITAMINA.
5 minute walk to Puerto Del Sol (Kilometer 0) and Plaza Mayor in Madrid. Many shops and restaurants nearby. Staff very helpful. A little tough to get to if you are driving your own car. As is often the case in Madrid, it is off a side, side, side street so more conducive to walking than driving in an out. Would have preferred a second bed in the room vs. a rollaway for our adult son, although it worked out okay.
Their elevator is so unique! Very clean, amazing location for the money. Staff was really nice and helpful
The location is superb! In the city centre, next to the shopping streets, the city discos and with a choice of 3 metro stations. Good value for money too! The breakfast room on the 6th floor has one of the best views of the city. Our room saw the inner court since we had to chose between a double bed or a nice view....but that was ok actually, quiet and neat. The one and only elevator is sometimes too slow but the hotel is a restaured old building with a long history. Absolutely worth the experience!
Well-located hotel. We had a top floor room that had a balcony that overlooke a monestery with its beautiful ancient tile roofs. No place to set up one, much less two, suitcases.
We stayed at the hotel 4 days and what we liked most was it centric location, within walking distance to everything in old Madrid, and close to bus an metro stops. Plaza San Martin is at the very heart of the city and very close (5 minutes walking) to such city highlights as Plaza mayor, La Opera, Palacio Real, Gran Via, etc. Corte Ingles (the department store) is just around the corner, and also there is parking available (although pricey, $28 euros per 24 hours) just outside the hotel (parking belongs to Corte Ingles). If you have a car, do not park on the city streets as they are "residents only" parking. Breakfast is not included, and if you chose to eat at the hotel, it is pricey. Just walk to any of the coffee shops close to the hotel and have a good continental breakfast at very low price (2-5 euros).
Staff was very helpful (and most spoke english), quick response to requests (towels, room service), very good location near Callao metro stop Bathroom was cramped, you could smell cigarette smoke when running the ac
I like its location ,near to metro stations (Callao and Sol) and well deserved . Also, breakfast buffet tasteful and good service . The room was confortable and space of its bathroom nicely shaped . This hotel is quite silence . Staff working at the Front Desk (ridiculous space !) lack of professional skills. Indeed , a no smart people . Also, at the first day of my stay (6 nights) , and in spite of my previous on line booking, they gve me a room without windows in the 1st floor .Smaller and noisy which standart can be compared with a one star in Eurpean hotel.
Beautiful hotel, facing nice old square. Check-in took 30 sec. Comfortable and charming: old-fashioned elevator, bell epoque decor... Bathroom big, new and clean. my room on second floor had a vague smoking smell, I had to open a window while out for a dinner
Breakfast too expensive
The location was perfect, the Jr. Suite offered plenty of room, the balcony was quite nice. The majority of the staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was clean. 1 room the A/C and the hair dryer weren't working properly and that was never resolved. The parking was very expensive. Need to vacuum under the beds.
The central location of the hotel near Pl.Mayor, Puerta del Sol
Location and access to points of interest.
good position near the metro and the most interesting place. the only bad thing was the water coming out from the bath and shower.
I loved the central location of the hotel and yet it was very quiet and peaceful.
location, design, new Lack internet connection (?)
Clean and great part of the city Food was not offered later at night
the cleaning staff are polite & work well- the bar service is outstanding, the receptionist was sweet but no sense of direction, I didnt like the fact that the lighting for the room and the bathroom were together on one switch- so going to the bathroom at night is either in the dark or waking your partner up when the lights go on...then something tiny- the stairs from to the sidewalk are slippery & the double doors for the entrance are slow...
the breakfast was very good in fact i would say it was excellent no it was very central
Good location Nothing
This was a really well situated Hotel in the middle of Madrid and next to Metro Station Callao. Very nice rooms. At the moment, no English TV chanels.
The staff was excellent! They ran out of white wine at the hotel bar!
great location, near the metro and puerto del sol. At least one of the staff can speak english
friendly, helpful staff. very clean and well furnished room. great location for all interests. relaxed athmosphere.
contemporary design, lovely breakfast with lots of choice, free internet access I would highly recommend this hotel but be careful of pick pockets in the centre of Madrid - warnings in many of the city centre restaurants.
Location, stylish design and breakfast area Nothing
Great service and very friendly staff. The rooms, although a bit small, were quite special and clean. The breakfast buffet is great. Very good value for your money!
The location, the breakfast included, the concept of thr hotel Everything was great
good size rooms with original design, very good location!!!!
Location, facilities, ambiance My wife was ill for three days. The staff treated her like family, nothing was too much trouble, and always with a smile. Excellent!!!!!
Desk staff were exceptionally helpful - for example in obtaining opera tickets which were not generally available, and made helpful and accurate restaurant recommendations. Decore was interesting, provision of breakfast generous. Corridors were noisy at times.
Very nice design, very central location... ... but they forgot one fundamental: soundproofing! I was literally in my neighbour's shower at 1am, I could hear him brush his teeth, and also go to the toilets (and you definitely don't want to hear your neighbour go to the toilets at 1am...) This is really insufficient - they should have spent a little less on the design and a bit more to improve the thickness of the walls.
This hotel was fabulous. It would have to go down as the best hotel we stayed at in Europe. The decor was funky and modern, it was ultra comfortable, the rooms were comfortable, funky and quiet, the hotel's location was excellent...I can't rave on enough about Room Mate Mario!
Location was great, just what I wanted. Value for the money was good. It's a personal preference, I suppose, but I thought the bed was hard. A very small complaint in the scheme of things.
Excellent location and friendly staff.
location, bathroom computer was broken in the lobby. Breakfast was good but was expensive.
The location is perfect. We had a balcony to our room which was brilliant and the beds were really comfortable. N/A
Our room viewing the noisy Gran Via was very quiet so we could rest and sleep at every hour of the day or night. the room is big, clean and the bed is comfotable. wish there was a coffee making posibilty in the room.
The location on Gran Via is excellent. The bathroom was spacious and the double room was great. The single room was tiny. I felt like I was thrown in a broom closet it was so small.
Staff members, including the concierge, were very polite, helpful, and accommodated my needs to my satisfaction. The room on the fourth floor, facing the inside, was very quiet.
Great location, nice decor with beautiful bathroom. Very small room, even by European standards. Prostitutes right outside on the public street.
The room was of a very good size, well decorated and maintained. The bathroom was of a very high quality. It has an excellent central location
Compfortable room with view over the ciety
Good location! The price of booking.com was fair, actually the price mentioned at the reception is too high.So I advise to book this hotel only in case of special offers. We paid 380 Euro for 4 nights and the hotel price for 1 night is 330 Euro (unreasonable).
Very nice and a good location. The heater was too high.
The hotel is central. I didn't like the decor and lighting - way too modern and cold looking.
it was in a good position prefer breakfast to be included. Strange lighting in corridors, very dark.
Nice for this money
friendly staff, could speak english clean modern room 24hr reception no bar dining area small
I liked the mix of heritage on the outside and modern design inside with attention to both tourist & business needs The hot water in the shower was only warm, I like it a little hotter
it was only a few mintutes from the city shops and resturants. the hotel was very nice and quiet and the staff were very helpfull. the shower easily flooded the bathroom floor after use, so it had to be mopped up everytime.only a minor issue
comfortable and clean hotel with friendly staff. Easy access to city centre and shopping. Lots of eating places around. a little bit cramped
the wireless servise is very good ,the location is very good.
Well positioned near centre; good sized rooms We were put into a sub-standard room for the first night (air con did not work), but were moved to a better one on request - which was excellent.
The location is very good, and the breakfast is very varied, the service is very very good. The rooms have good size and are clean
Very good situation near the center area (walking streets, shopping, getting to sight seeings) on this time of the year. Staff was very frendly and very pleasent to help, when it was needed. As a Finnish I want that the hotel breakfest is substantial to start the tourist-day. I didn´t wait black bread nor porridge, but yougurt for flakes or mysli should be good. And it was strange, that there wasn´t vegetables at all (not also in restaurants in Madrid).
the location could not be better, the staff were all pleasant and helpful and the room and hotel in general spotless I was in a single room 317 this was tiny with no comfortable chair and no view the window blanked and on opening looked down some sort of shaft. this room is very claustrophobic and totally unsuitable for a longer stay
Location superb, and the room was very good
The best thing about the hotel is the location, easy access to Sol Metro station. This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel and the second time we have had a quiet room. We thought that the prices in the Lounge were very expensive compared to our last stay, 17 Euros for 2 Gin and Tonics and a bottle of water. This is well above average for Spain in general. There was a Tea and Coffee making kit available free if asked for at receiption but this information was only made available in the rooms Hotel info guide, this should have been made known on arrival from the receiption staff.
the location was very good and the lounge/bar was excellent. would like to see some form of not slip mat in the bath as i slipped when picking up my towel and I am quite badly bruised. This is not a criticism it is a would like to have suggestion so it doesn't happen to others.
very convenient location in central Madrid for shopping and restuarants, bus tours and public transport, and art galleries
Ideal locality being in the centre of Madrid but in a pedestrianised area guaranteeing a good nights sleep with minimal traffic noise. This was my 4th time in Madrid and my 3rd at this hotel.
Friendly and very helpful staff location of hotel No sat tv for children in the rooms making it harder to entertain children at night no tea/coffee making facilities in your room
The family room was perfect. Plenty of space and comfortable.
Great location! In the center of everything could get a bit noisy at night but stilloverall was great
Italian restaurant and Starbucks on the corner
The hotel is at the center of Madrid in walking distance from the most of the sights. Very big and comfort family room and very clean.
Almost everything A restuarant would be good
Location of hotel, friendly staff , Nice weather It seems t need a touch up
The cleansiness and size of the rooms. Everything was in working order.
The location of the hotel was perfect, the metro was just yards away, shops, bars & eating places all within walking distance.
Great location near the underground. Everywhere is just a short hop away.Room clean, bed huge. Pleasant staff. Best value city in Europe at the moment. Would like to be able to make a cup of tea or coffee. Otherwise I got what I paid for. No Complaints.
This was one of my favorite hotel stays in my life. I was traveling with my husband. We really enjoyed the ocean view (We also saw what the city view would be, and I'm sure it would be nice). The location was excellent, right on the water but also a very short walk into old town. The staff was the nicest and most helpful in Spain, especially the concierge, who gave great recommendations for everything we wanted to do. Location, staff, view, concierge.
Excellent hotel. Recently renovated. Conveniently located in centre of city. Great staff. Warm and friendly. Hop off and on bus tour close by. Nothing
Great location, clean rooms, strong AC, shower pressure was very good, and the room is quiet considering the noise outside the hotel. The wifi was spotty and slow.
Hotel central location in Madrid close to Royal Palace and many tourist sites.
Stayed in a beautiful room, great reception who all spoke excellent english, the hotel is right next to some fantastic areas of madrid. And if you like sushi, theres an excellent sushi restaurant right down the block. TV channels were average and no movies on demand. If you cant speak spanish, good luck figuring out how to put on the subtitles, I spent a while with no luck. Also, while not really a big deal, the hotel has no restaurant and I believe no room service either. Fortunately, theres places to eat everywhere around the hotel, less than 30 seconds out the front door. The hotel does offer breakfast at a hotel almost directly next door though, and the dining room there looked beautiful but I didnt eat there. The lack of a restaurant isnt something I would necessarily consider a con, but its important to note.
Spacious room Comfortable bed Bedroom lights need dimmer. Coffee not available - in room coffee maker nor cafeteria.
Very large room, king size bed, well decorated, clean, air conditioning really working, nice staff & very helpfull, A parking place in front of the hotel will be nice for those who trave by car
Laura who signed me in was the most gracious and caring hotel staff I have ever met. I would hire her in a minute!
Sleek, minimal design hotel located near Gran Via. Room was spacious, had a kitchen and a flat screen TV (5 channels). Great value. No lounge or central area at the reception, but it didn't matter much to me. There are a few dodgy bars near it, but it was safe as there's a police station on the same street.
Avery nice large room with very friendly and helpful hotel staff
Central to where we needed to be, large room Difficult to find with no outside signage
The cleanliness, the size, the confort, the shower...
very freindly and helpfull staff - We enjoyed the clean comfortable large rooms. many attrtrctions were neaby NO complaints
The stuff was really helpful and the location of the hotel was very convinient. I would like a room with a better view and a larger window.
The location of the hotel was perfect and so was the parking service which is so difficult to find in hotels nearby. The room was really good, really confortable and clean. The staff were very helpful. The beds were too small for a hotel like this and I don't understand how possible it is to have staff in the reception who speak english so so bad!!
location quality dropped a bit compared with my visit 5 year ago
loction executive lounge marginal, no wine available
swimming pool room walls where damaged: visible has had a water leakage on the roof, poor facilities, small room, not enough water pressure in the shower.
The hotel's location is a huge asset. It's central location enhances access to the various interests in the city. Room was slightly smaller than expected - but acceptable nontheless.
Location, helpfulness from staff, roof pool, fantastic room - two showers!! and great view also
hotel statt , facilities , cleqnliness of hotel and room , situation of hotel hard of Madrid
Location - excellent size room - TV channels poor - I do not watch TV but others may and would find it dissapointing
The roof pool and the central location of the hotel
Only the pool is the only big pool in Gran via sed the is open till 9 pm when summer time in Madrid is light till 11 pm First when I arrive after long fly from New York the told me the room no ready I bin waiting from 9 am till 2:30 pm service sooo slow line for the front desk is over size waiting and the worst the don't speak English well , when I get the room finely it was look sooo different from the pic and so small that I was can move there I sleep I wake up and I cancel all my rest of the stay in this hotel and I go to other hotel horrible experience never recomed this hotel
-The location was great -Staff was very helpful -The pool and roof deck were amazing -Hotel was very clean -The wifi was slow and it had a two device limit -The room was somewhat small
Location is perfect. Wi Fi it far too expensive. View.
Very clean room, hotel have been renovated. Nice bathroom, TV in the room. Very close to Gran Via. Staff hardly speak English. The hotel surrounding in not nice.
Fantastic location and friendly daytime staff. Unfriendly nighttime staff member.
free wi fi, helpful staff, good location internal noise - locks opening/closing, walking/talking in hall very loud and reverberating.
Very clean, excellent value for money. Location - it appears to be in the middle of the Red Light District!
For the price this hotel was excellent value. Rooms were clean however very small, the shower was also small. Shower was too small.
Almost nothing, just the location near Gran Via The street in which this hostel is located in is full of cabarets, prostitutes, bars etc. I think that this street can be very dangerous. Pavements were covered in vomits, there were drunk people shouting on the street all night, it was impossible to sleep properly with the balcony door opened and the room was very hot. The receptionist lady smelled of alcohol and was not very polite.
The staff was nice and the rooms were clean. The site didn't mention that the hostal is situated in a bad neighborhood, with prostitutes on the street, it has no parking and the nearest one is very expensive (26 Euro/day), the rooms have no air conditioning so we couldn't sleep because of the heat and the noise from the club across the street.
Everything was perfect with the hotel and I have made another reservation to next month. The price of the hotel was 90 € for a double room at the hotel but it is half price at booking.com. Thank you booking.com. There was nothing bad with the hotel.
Good, clean, modern rooms. Nice bathroom. Very convenient location. Internet available. Area frequented by prostitutes, though we did know this from previous reviews so not a problem.
very good position in the city centre, very clean, new, nice hotel thin walls, you could hear all the sounds - very noisy shower from next rooms at 2am, disturbing lift sounds,
price, the room was good with LCD TV, excellent location in the centre noisy district
Hotel is well situated (in the City Centrum, near metro station); provides rather good value for payed money. Rooms are normally equipped. Breakfast service looks quite appropriate. In whole, my wife and me are satisfied in staying Laris. Hotel is suitable for short business trips. 1. Hotel people don't speak English, and sometimes are not looking too affable. 2. Although the hotel is situated in ~50 m from one of the central streets (Grand Via), there are many prostitutes around hotel, and other not pleasant bozos. Really, I have not felt any menace, nevertheless, I do not recommend to stay there with children.
Good location, Funny surroundings - Red district :)
Nice hotel, very friendly staff
the central place at the hotel there were too many prostitutes aroundt the hotel
This Hostel was in the middle of the Centre of Madrid. However, there were too many prostitutes in the neighbour of this Hostel.
The location was supper
Convenience and room for Four. Noise at night was very loud.
Location Needs repairs
The location is, by far, the best part of this hotel. it is right in the middle of everything! Despite this, not much noise could be heard from the street. 1. Internet is weak (connection on/off, very slow, etc.) which is very disappointing for a hotel that pretends to be high tech. 2. Soundproofing clearly needs some fine-tuning as all the noises of the corridor (people walking, talking, cleaning staff, etc.) were in my room!! (I asked to be re-located to another room but the personal did not take my request seriously). 3. A small bedroom with a big bathroom (unusual). 4. The room was dark, very little day light.
Excellent location to the Grand Via, shops, market and other general tourist spots.
Location central, walking distance to central plaza and queens home. The room was dirty the sheets were dirty not dusted or swept. The maid service never changed the sheets. The free WiFi is by ticket in 120 minute incriments. You have to keep going back for tickets. The room decor is from the stone age all dark brown. Rooms are small even a triple room is only for two. Lets not forget ladies of the evening working around the hotel at all hours.
I thought the hotel was very modern and very reasonably priced considering the location was so central. The only thing I would say is that although the reception staff greeted us very well, the other members of reception staff could be a bit dismissive and slightly rude.
