Walk into the grand lobby and you feel like you're part of Chicago history. The rooms are a little small.
In the middle of everywhere I needed to be! Near read line, near great restaurants and near the bean. Bed was a bit too uncomfortable and no water pressure in shower.
Decor, ambiance, comfy bed and linens, great shower, great mirror in the bathroom, we were pleasantly suprised to see that we were able to open the windows in the room, we like fresh air. The wall paper was peeling in the bathroom.
The hotel is historic, but apart from the lobby, which is impressive, the historic details are not well preserved, so overall it feels less like a grand old hotel and more like just an old and run-down hotel. The room was small; carpet was worn out; drapes hideous; no fan in the bathroom; a tray of junk food was set out on display front of the bed, which could not be moved without incurring a charge, so it was like we were sleeping in a convenience store.
Location Beds were lopsided, couldn't sleep on it.
The room was very clean. The hotel had many amenities and provided a comfortable home away from home. I was approached by beggars both in front of the hotel (on the sidewalk) and in the hotel lobby. It would have been nice for security to be a bit tighter.
Incredibly beautiful hotel. The lobby is a masterpiece. I felt like I was transported in time...with modern amenities close by. Wish there was a refrig in the room but other than that, this trip was perfect. I plan to visit The Palmer many more times.
We arrived early and tried to check in.Were advised room not ready, but in a hour and we were being upgraded. Two hours later that room was gone, but we could wait for the upgraded room or take our confirmed room (smaller,etc) then.Decided to wait on 23rd floor where the upgraded room was located--very pleasant but took another 40 minutes. It was god to wait and worth it but,.........................., had two double beds. would have liked queen beds as we were three ladies, two of whom are larger.... Everything else was GREAT
The main lobby and bar were beautiful and relaxing areas and the hotel is well maintained and clean. Rooms and bathroom were very small and the building is definitely an older building. That being said, the interiors were clean and well taken care of, and the common areas were very well kept and beautiful.
Location was great. Near millennium park and downtown attractions Never experienced worse hotel staff than this. From the bell man to reception to guest services
The check in was smooth and easy. Our attendant answered all of our questions and made great suggestions for food and activities. I will say, i had the BEST caramel macchiato at the Starbucks that is in this hotel. I told the barista then, and i'm saying it again now, it was hands down the best! The bed seemed really firm which is unusual for hotels, usually they are plush.
Efficient and clean
Nothing The room was dirty and so were my bath towels, also not to mention the hallway smelled really bad. Most importantly the staff were very rude when I informed them of my dirty room.
Great location and rich history - opened up the windows for cool air at night.
For the condition of the the hotel, was MUCH cleaner than I expected. Staff were also very cordial. All I can say is that this was like the Happiness Hotel of Muppet fame. Not one dime has been spent on any hotel upgrades since 1976. Because of the baroque splendor it once had, this hotel is popular for weddings (maybe guests are blindfolded until they arrive in the ballrooms??) All was shabby, falling apart, and rundown with tons of springbreak-like behaving young adults. Walls paper-thin.

Beds are comfortable and the staff is very friendly. Onsite parking is cheaper than others in downtown Chicago. Wifi could be better. The rooms are older in style and decor, but that is to be expected in a 100+ year old hotel.
only suggestion for improvements I would have would be the doors to get into the different wings look like service entrances- out of character with the rest of the décor- could use an upgrade.

Great location and in hotel amenities Luxury hotel once upon a time, but lack of appropriate upkeep drops it down a couple notches. Not a bad hotel, just not luxury anymore.
location was perfect for Art Institute student visit. great location near theatre. room was small but clean and confortable fold out bed was lumpy and uncomfortable.

Wide variety of food room service was very convenient. nevetheless the hotel own restaurant was also reliable. It would be appreciated to have an iron in the room.

My wife and I have always stayed north of the river but chose this one to stay in a different part of the city but be close to everything. We loved the location to CTA stops because used that to get around the city. We loved the location's proximity to basically anything that we needed. The staff was very informative and friendly. My wife enjoyed the chilled water bottle stations on each floor. The elevator runs very quick compared to other Chicago hotels that we have stayed at. The room service and food deliveries run late into the night. We purchased our room online so maybe we were not given the best room. Our room was in a "hole" of sorts. There was absolutely zero views from the small window and barely any sunshine. The size of the flatscreen tv left much to be desired. Most hotels now at least have a 40" tv. There was no microwave in the room and not one that we could access down in the lobby area. The bed was not overly comfortable. Again, we loved most things about hotel because we chose it more as a crash location, not a place to stay all day.
Very clean and comfortable with a great location. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel offered many free services (free bottled water, printing, snacks, coffee...etc.). On site restaurant was very good. Bathroom and shower was very small but manageable. Bathroom had a frosted glass door that was surprisingly see through. Plan parking in advance to avoid either paying a small fortune for parking or having to park several blocks away.
The room layouts are convenient, the cleanness of the hotel is up to par, and the hotel is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Chicago and there is a convenient social bar downstairs! Customer service representatives at the front desk were not helpful. I personally would not recommend this hotel before another hotel because of the service I received; but the hotel is very nice and in a great location.
We stayed at the Club Quarters because it's a block away from the Chicago passport office, and was reasonably priced. Checkin and staff were great, very helpful and attentive, very accommodating. The business center in the basement is very convenient, however, it didn't offer color printing and we were prepping for a visit to the passport office which required color printing. The staff have me a list of kinkos/fedex offices which offered color printing, however the list was outdated and I wasted an hour running all over the city following old information. I share this with the staff and hope they have updated the info. I would have gladly paid for color printing, and was wishing I spent the extra $$ to stay at a Hilton, which reliably has color printing.
The convenience that the hotel provide is great.
Free wifi and free water. My "queen" bed was really two twin beds pushed together which lead to an uncomfortable nights sleep. The room was also the size of a closet but I was too exhausted from my flight to put up a stink.
Outstanding service and staff. The room was clean and they had a fitness room that wasn't busy. Also, they had these purified water stations on each floor. Very small room and the treadmills were pretty low quality.
The location is absolutely perfect if you're visiting Chicago from out of town. However, the rooms are small and basic so if you're not planning on staying in the room that much it's perfect.
Loved the free coffee and water on each level. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Walls were thin, and you could hear other guests making noises and playing music in their rooms.
It was a great place to stay - stayed here for business travel. They're professional all around. Don't get a car here; expensive for parking. You shouldn't have one in Chicago anyway.
Great for a business trip where you don't spend a ton of time in the room. Not so great for a couple's getaway weekend. Room was rather small and room was in need of upgrades.
TV service did not offer NBC and possibly ABC. Otherwise a great place and location. The other stay a couple of weeks ago - the phone did not work. Could't call to the front desk. Phone was dead and even after reporting this continued to be dead for the whole week.
For Chicago Michigan Avenue, the price is good for quality, clean rooms. Yes the room is small but very functional. Large bathrooms and plenty of storage.

The room we had was amazing. The view was amazing. The hotel itself was amazing. The lady who checked us in was very very rude, we booked 2 double beds a month I'm advance and she leads to tell me that we did not. We told her that we wanted 2 queen beds and she lies and says there aren't any rooms available with the bed arrangement we want. When I pull out the paper and show her the we had 2 queen beds, she goes to talk to another person and than a room that fits what we wanted magically appears. Other than this ridiculous incident all of the other staff was very very nice. Avoid checking in with the African-American girl with braces.
The hotel was fantastic as well as the staff.It was clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. Great recommendations for activities and food. We had the the tasting menu at Mercat restaurant and had some of the best food we ever tasted. We will definitely be staying here the next visit to Chicago!
The room was comfortable and updated. There was an employee who listened to me (Iesha) and displayed professionalism and good customer service when there was a HUGE error in the room reservation on the part of Kayak/Get a Room. Lobby was inviting, The hotel forced me to upgrade my room and pay more per night due to the reservation made through Kayak/Get a Room which did not secure 2 double beds for 4 people. They contract with Kayak but you still need to call the hotel directly to be sure you are receiving the room you requested. Does not make sense to contract if you still need to call them directly. They did not clean the room during the stay unless asked directly.
Staff promptly covered our mistake of a missing room with a walk-in and helped the family stay together during the vacations!

The hotel was beautiful and in a perfect location - within minutes of everything there is to do in Chicago. The number one reason I will go back to Hotel Blake is the concierge, Showtime. This man knows everything there is to do and will go out of his way 100% of the time to help you out. We had an amazing time and can't wait to go back. I can't think of a single thing.

Easy parking at lot next door. Easy unload in front of hotel. Great staff at hotel helped with transportation and restaurant choices. Hotel had large rooms and big bathrooms with large modern showers. Hotel allowed us to check our bags and leave them at hotel after checkout on Sunday so we could sightsee all day and get car out of parking! City noises all night but we were too tired from all our activities to be affected at night! No pool or hot tub but we knew that ahead of time. Overall best big city hotel experience we had!
Spacious,luxurious, close to a lot of great sites such as the museums and shopping and site-seeing places. Great to have breakfast included in the price of the room! Not very helpful at first with the parking for the workers didn't know the streets well to give directions to the parking garage and were really trying to have valet parking as the only choice at twice the price at $44/day!

Walk in shower was nice, bathroom very spacious. Bed was comfortable. Nice location to restaurants and the river. Staff very helpful, especially Dan. Dan was awesome and helped us book another night so we could be in the city longer. Good price too. A few shower tiles were dark, possible mold. It only had one door so water splashed everywhere. A palm-sized piece of the wall was missing and FYI if you don't want to hear street noise such as sirens and honking ask for a room away from the street, you won't get the best view but you'll be able to sleep without interruption.
The staff was friendly , I asked for an extra mattress for my child and they sent it immediately and at our arrival night it was rainy and the door man gave us umbrellas to use.The location of the hotel is good too. 1- The breakfast was poor and it was at the reception area (no room for breakfast), It shouldn't be called continental as they serve only donuts and croissant with canned juice and coffee. 2- the room has no fridge, 3- the coffee maker was in the bathroom.4- the internet was so slow. 4- parking costs $44 a night which is too much though all the 4-5 stars hotels I have been to around the world have their own free parking lots for hotel costumers.
Great hotel, well updated. Nice bathrooms and beds. The restaurant downstairs was incredible. The best smoked salmon Benedict I've ever had! Will go back.

The room was very clean and the bed was awesome. I liked the color choices for the room.
Staff was great, very knowledgeable and quick to give recommendations and directions. Breakfast had a lot variety and protein and fresh fruit options. Walls were thin, I heard a conversation in the next room at 11pm. Also WIFI access was too complicated to log in from a smartphone that I gave up since I had very limited time in Chicago.

Location, cleanliness, staff. Its a minor thing, but choices of pillows are too thick for side and stomach sleepers. Parking expense.
The hotel was well located for our purposes--within walking distance of shopping and many attractions. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and staff efficient. Breakfast was the typical Hampton Inn fare which is good quality geared to a wide variety of tastes and preferences. The facility was an older building that had been retrofit. Our room was a little smaller than other Hampton's. This hotel is probably better suited to a couple than to a family with younger children. But it was efficient and did the job. Décor was funky and different which can work either way depending on perception. Overall, the space worked for us.
All of above. Check in very easy. Felt safe needing key to elevator upper floors. Great breakfast. Staff warm welcoming very helpful. Found an empty Jack Daniels fifth bottle under bed. Not ours.
The room was comfortable and large enough to have a small sitting area. I liked the extra high ceilings because the room felt much larger than the floor space. The beds were comfortable and the furniture in good condition. There was a complementary coffee and tea bar in the lobby with fresh fruit and sometimes cookies. This was a nice stop over before heading back to the room. The breakfast closes on the dot at 10am. This isn't convenient because younger people (I'm 28 years old) like to sleep in a little later. I prefer to get going around 10 or 11am. This is a simple fix, extend the breakfast hours by an hour. I'd like to see more plants indoors at this hotel because the city starts to wear on me after a while and getting a fix of nature is relieving.
The staff was very friendly and the room was very clean and well appointed. The location is also very close to many of the attractions that we were seeking out. within walking distance of Millennium park and Navy Pier.
We loved being right next door to see Hamilton. Would recommend to everyone. No parking problems. valet was awesome. All the staff were very polite and helpful. We went New Years Eve so it was busy. We did have to wait for our room but the staff helped us get luggage to room so we could make our reservation for dinner. Teenagers loved the breakfast.

In the business area so could walk to my office in S. Wacker Drive The tap filter needs adjusting (room 4013). Not really a bad point but you may wish to rectify.
When I called to have the light bulbs replaced they said they would be right up. They never came. I switched light bulbs in the 4 lamps so I could get work done. The breakfast is not staffed and you have your choice of two cereals
Small number of rooms make it quite the botique stay. Great view as well. Internet is free ! Very old Internet and TV system. Both work but could use an update.
Good location, very big room with a nice view. Staff seemed to be quite good. Some of the public parts of the hotel seemed rundown and some fixtures and furniture in the room could use updating. Some of the clientele seemed dodgy, as in a bit overly friendly and nosy. There was no wireless internet, as far as I could tell.
Very nice room. Quiet Wireless internet would ot connect even though signal strength was good. Hotel computer had the same probelm. Remote for tv in bedroom did not function.
the reception and the people there are excellent. The gym facilities are outstanding and the people great. Breakfast is not continental. This could be better.

We like the proximity of the hotel in Chicago to be able to gain access to attractions - open-top bus tour stop nearby and a good quality fast-food outlet in the hotel. Single glazed windows did not block out traffic and train noises.
Location- very convenient to Chicago tourist attractions. Everyone was friendly, even if a lot of the staff didn't have pertinent information. Maintenance is a problem. We had to switch rooms because of loud hotel generated noise (5 am). The new room did not have a working toilet paper roll holder and the sheets were too small for the beds and came undone in the night. Our keys were deactivated several times. It was only inconvenient to have them reactivated.
The wireless Internet connection was very good. This hotel is old and needs an urgent refurbishment. The staff was discourteous and indiferent most of the time. The check in time is 3:00 PM and you have to pay to leave your luggage if you arrive earlier. The rates for one onight during weekend are extortive.
The hotel still had a feel of a hotel from the 50’s, which was a charm factor.
how close it was to everything we wanted to do, we could walk to Millennium Park, Grant Park, coffee shops, shopping & places to eat. Other attractions were only a short taxi ride away (Navy Pier & Shedd Aquarium were only $7 taxi each) it's a very old hotel with slow elevators and our swipe card did not work a few times. It was very expensive for a 2* room with no ammenities($139/night + $32/day for parking our small SUV)
It was a convenient city location which filled a need. It all felt a bit old & dated but otherwise ok for its purpose.
Helpful front desk I was woken up at 12:45 by a screaming kid and a very loud TV. The walls aren't very thick and other guests sometimes not very considerate.

Nice set up, cafe on ground floor. Community kitchen with fridgerators. You can cook whatever you like and bring back leftovers.. Have to pay 10c a minute for computers onsight.
I liked very much the fact that the room and the bathroom were very clean and the fact that was a safe place and of course the fact that I could lock my BAGGAGE....cause when you share the room with different strangers you never know what you can "loose"....:D The only thing that I didn't liked was the fact that the breakfast was to poor.

Very convenient location. Friendly staff and guests. Linens hadn't been changed on my bed even though I arrived after 4 pm. Room was quite noisy throughout the night with people coming and going. Some one left early about 5 am and left their light on. Part of the hassles of being in a hostel with no curfew.
This place is really good, the staff was amazing and the environment was lots of fun -- without being noise at all! The Location can not be any better. An A+! Water pressure in the room showers needs lots of help!
I saved a ton of money. My room was noisy because of roommates and the train tracks right outside the window.
It was very clean, great downtown location, employees were very nice and provided lots of info on the area like where to eat and what to do. The place was fairly quiet, provided breakfast, and had sitting areas with nice leather arm chairs.
