Cons: Payless is very disorganized, and missed managed. It resembled a junk car lot. Be prepared to wait in lines over one hour, and give yourself two hours to complete to return process and have them get you back to the airport. IT’S NOT WORTH THE AGGRAVATION.

You Get What You Pay For
Pros: Price - The price was great but honestly would have paid double to get better service at a more reliable provider in terminal.
Cons: 1) Speed of service (or lack of) - It takes 20 to 30 min to check out each person that comes to the counter. If you arrive and there's a line prepare to be there for a few hours.
2) Quality of vehicles - Prepare to get a vehicle that is dented, scratched, and dirty inside. The vehicle we rented was a 2016 and it showed more like a 2010.
3) Shuttle service - A shuttle may come every 30 minutes if you're lucky.
4) Facility - Small, cramped, falling apart.

Pros: Staff was friendly, airport shuttle picked us up quickly to go to the car rental which is very close by.
Cons: Online our car rental came to about $46 and we paid insurance separately, but once there after so many fees the total came to over $100.
We had to pay a toll fee, because they said tolls could not be paid in cash, this is a lie. Also you only need this if you are going outside the metro area, we rented the car for 3 days and said we would only need tolls for one, and they said this was not possible, it was for the total of days or not at all.

Never use this again
Cons: Overcharged me by $100.00 on my reserved car. The car had a bad tire and got a flat. The headlights didn't work and lastly the brakes failed on the way back to San Juan on the highway.
Cons: It took almost an hour and a half to get the car. Once on the counter I was told my over all $107.00 price had jumped to $360.00 because since it was under $10 a day ($9.97) I had to pay full coverage for the car. This wasn't explained to me anywhere. If I would've known that I would've gone to a reputable company and rented and SUV for that price. A friend of mine did. That was very very disappointing and honestly I felt like I was being robbed in plain sight. I had no choice at that point and ended up having to do pay it. Pros: They were nice.
Cons: They tried to sneak in an up charge for insurance on me. My Spanish is ok and luckily I caught it and had them lower it. In the mean time they were out of the car I ordered and changed it. No problem. Allied ripped up the paperwork with the price I was quoted and agreed upon verbally and put together a new contract. Unfortunately, they sneaked in the insurance charge again on the paper work on the new car. I didn't notice the up charge this time since we agreed upon in person while I was renting the car. I'm guessing it was an honest mistake and perhaps their computer defaults to have insurance on their contracts. Since they had to redo the paperwork for the new car it must have defaulted an added the insurance. When I went to return the car they same person was not there. I asked for a manager to call and never heard from anyone. I've tried to call but have been getting the run around. I would have never rented that car with insurance. The price for the insurance was almost the price of the car! Buyer beware!

I came back to the dealer and they replaced it after some "tantrums" from their representative. They also spend more time making joke among themselves than caring about good customer service. My bill increased from $550.99 (online) to $886.15 (outdoor) after many hidden (not disclosed) charged when online purchase was done. Hidden charges -PER DAY- were: SLI $10.95; TRPP $1.95; TRANSP REC FEE 8.75%; City Tax 1%; Vehicle license fee $0.94; Energy Rec Fee $1; Facility Usage Fee $2.89; Maint Fee 0.5%; State tax 10.5%; AET $4.95.

Everything was good except the upsells
Cons: Of course car rental places will try to upsell you on extra insurance and the like, but this place straight up put it on my bill without me asking for it. They didn't even let me know it was going on my bill--I found out by looking at the invoice when I got home and connecting the dots. Overall, about $100-$120 I couldve saved on a weekly rental.
Regarding the auto-expreso pass, I bought it per reviews online saying it's useful, but I never had need for it. I kept track of what I would've paid in tolls each day, and it was never more than $2.50. The expreso tag is $5/day, and I think the island's 10.5% tax might apply making it even pricier.

False advertisement: $100+ more!
Cons: False advertisement. The ad on Kayak stated taxes included. Dollar charged mo for the taxes separately. Would not budge. So I paid an extra $100+. What am I supposed to do when I am in another country, need a car at 10 PM, and have no other options? Would have gotten it for much less and more convenient pick up/drop off directly from other companies. Never Kayak again.

Pros: Only thing I liked was the shuttle to airport. I huighly suggest booking elsewhere. Was quoted $59 ok Kayak AND DOllar site for the "special" vehicle. Got there and it jumped to $145 total and I was given a very small Kia Rio that had lots of damage to the vehicle. So again, book elsewhere and don't book the "special vehicle." For the price I paid, I could have got a bigger vehicle somewhere else.
Pros: They are located right inside the airport so we were in our vehicle and ready to go within 15 minutes of picking up our baggage. Returning the car was even quicker. They gave us a complimenary upgrade from a full size to small suv which made our trip alot more comfortable. Overall couldn't have asked for a better experience

Overall great experience for car rental in San Jua
Pros: Alamo staff were very friendly at both pick-up and drop-off. The car we got was better than expected and we had no issues during our 1-week rental period.
Cons: The desk agent said we could upgrade to a car with power windows/locks for extra, which we declined, but the rentals we were offered to choose from in the lot all had power windows/locks - felt like an upsell that wasn't necessary...

Fast pick up/drop off
Pros: Arriving to San Juan at 1:30am was a tricky hour, but as soon as I arrived at the counter, someone was ready to help me. The service was fast and I was directed to go upstairs to choose a vehicle. Choose one and left. That simple. And drop off was just as simple. Pulled the car up, answered a few questions and walked right inside to the Terminals to go on my way. Would definitely book a vehicle with Alamo again!

Pros: I find the Alamo desk at the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, PR to be very convenient, efficient, and valuable -- both in the pick-up and return phases of the process. I travel to PR once a month for work, and will only use Alamo because of the consistently good service.
Pros: Easy pick up and drop off. Very clean and economic car.

The best car rental in San Juan
Pros: When you go to the car rental area at San Juan airport, it's a zoo. There are tired crabby travelers all over waiting in long lines. We had a reservation at enterprise and it took less than 5 minutes to get our car. When we wanted to drop off we were able to leave the car at a hotel in old San Juan where we stayed for the second part of our vacation (it's better not to have a car in old San Juan). Everyone we talked to was incredibly friendly and helpful.
Cons: We had a "reservation" at noon but were told when we arrived that it wouldn't be ready for about 30 minutes. We just got some lunch only to return and find 7 more people waiting for their noon "reservations" as well who were all apparently on the list before us. The employees told us they simply didn't have enough cars and didn't have any idea when they would be returning, as if that wasn't literally the only thing their job description entailed. They also continued to tell each new customer that it would be 30 minutes when it was clear they were lying. When, after over 3 hours I asked if they could even guarantee a car for us as our hotel was in a town 2 hours away, she said "I hope so." That was it. Finally, after over 5 hours, we got a car which was much smaller than the one we requested. At that point we just wanted anything to get us out of the 3x5 box that was their office, so we crammed in and drove away. They didn't offer any condolences or money back or anything for having wasted an entire day of so many peoples vacation. Worst experience I've ever had traveling as this seemed like the norm for them to let people think they're making a reservation and then having nothing for them. Absolutely terrible

Poor customer service
Cons: unfortunately, was unable to pick up the car. Spoke to the agent and told him that we may be a few minutes late (flight was landing at 4pm) he immediately stated that he was out the door by 4:30 (please note that we were only going to be probably 5 to 10 minutes late). Also, it was not in the immediate vicinity and that we had to take a taxi because they did not offer shuttle services which is something that we did not know about. Needless to say, we were very put off by his attitude especially when we had called ahead of time to let him know, guess he needed to get out on time. Booked another car with another car rental.......

Cons: Al recoger el auto la salida no fue la mejor. Nadie disponible para dirigir la salida. Sugiero se ubiquen rótulos para mejorar este servicio. Tuve que bajarme del auto para preguntar y hasta mal me trataron. Eso estuvo muy feo y de poco agrado para un cliente que ni sabe si soy extranjero o no.
Pros: Despite the other rude customers in Line, the rental agents were completely professional at all times and upgraded us into a Premier car because of us having to wait in line. The vehicle was a 2017 that looked like it was just driven off a dealers lot! I will definitely use Thrifty Rental in San Juan airport again.

Pros: Quick and easy. Only took about 15 minutes from the time we were at the counter to the time we were driving away.
Cons: The first car they offered us smelled like cigarette smoke. When we mentioned it they switched us cars in a matter of just a few minutes without any hassle.
Pros: We called for a ride from SJU to the off-site lot; caught a ride almost immediate; short trip to the lot; got paperwork done and we were on our way shortly. No problems, very smooth; same for our return. Will definitely use again.

Pick up and drop off was slow and hard
Pros: This ACE Car Rental is really a local affiliate, Charlie Car Rental. On the plus side, they honored the rate I reserved online, and the car they gave me worked fine.
Cons: It is difficult to get the shuttle from the airport to the car rental building- they come somewhat infrequently, and aren't listed on any of the signage. At check in, the process was very slow (> 1 hour), and they really tried to hard sell me on insurance, even though I knew my insurance coverage was adequate. The car they rented me had numerous dents and scapes. Overall, just not an enjoyable experience.

This whole ordeal was at 3 am, where we found our self stuck at the airport with no transportation. I ended up finding a car with another company which they were fantastic. Alamo safe my trip. I will not recommend ACE to anybody. Their service is the worse.

Rental was ok.
Pros: The price was very reasonable and the car was good for what we paid. Shuttle from the airport was easy to get and dropoff was also pretty simple.
Cons: I was told there were no people working at the toll booths so I would need the toll pass they had. Turns out there was a cash lane. I think that was a ripoff because we had to pay $10 to use their pass and the toll was just $1.50. Also, I felt like they were shoving their insurance down my throat.

Pros: Loved that Hertz is right at the terminal. The price was not the lowest, but it was definitely not the highest. Easy checkout and checkin and the car was a pretty new car with only 1700 miles on it. Great job Hertz.

Cons: I reserved a full size car (fusion or sonata) and ended up with chevy Malibu--very difficult for parents to get in and out of car. I had to wait over an hour to get my rental which I reserved well in advance. I then was directed to a parking lot where the hertz representative had no idea what or where my car was. Finally, they brought my car around and it was disgusting. The outside had so many dents and scraps I was afraid to drive it off the lot. Then the inside was equally as bad--smell, stained interior etc. This is the first time using Hertz and I will NOT use or advise any one to rent with Hertz. The previous three years I used enterprise at this location with MUCH better results.

Hertz Car Rental in San Juan, PR
Pros: I rented a car at the SJU airport. The car was clean and reliable. The pre-rental inspection went smoothly so that I didn't get charged for scratches that previous renters made on the car.
Cons: There is no pickup service with the car rental. I had to take 2 taxis in order to rent the car, one for pickup, one for dropoff, which almost doubled my actual rental cost.
Additionally, you should know that you can't rent at SIG, a private airport, if you're already in San Juan, which Kayak was misleading about. Neither Hertz nor Kayak was clear about this until I called Hertz and they canceled my original reservation.
Pros: Economy (Target) was professional - I was a little apprehensive renting from a company in Puerto Rico but the staff of Target worked hard to meet my needs. Car was nice, clean and my experience was Great!
Cons: Actual rental facility was not on airport property and I had to take a shuttle to get my car. Rental facility was not far from the airport. Also had to call for the shuttle to pick me up.
