To get to the Rental Car Center from the BOS Airport, locate rental cars, take the blue Massport shuttle bus and it will announce Rental Car Center because a lot of us on the bus were not entirely sure where to go to rent our cars. Beware when renting from Thrifty from the Boston Airport.

If you aren’t familiar with Boston, have your GPS ready. It can be confusing. Also, there are a lot of one way streets, so watch the signs. You always have to be aware of which lane to be in. You might actually have to switch lanes frequently just to drive straight ahead, as lanes that were drive straight lanes turn into turn lanes.

I rented a car to drive home to ME so it’s a non issue but Boston is an extremely difficult city to drive in if you’ve never been here before. There is minimal signage and people from Massachusetts drive very differently. When they want to merge they just do. You must be on the defense at all times. There is always traffic too. You do not need a car if staying in the city proper in fact I’d recommend against it. Between the T and Uber and really just walking, you can get everywhere you need to, plus there really isn’t any parking except expensive garages if you’re lucky enough to find one. And if you’re renting from the airport to go elsewhere you’re fine with GPS. But with GPS trying to find something downtown? Good luck. You’ll be stuck in traffic for days and never find what you’re looking for. If you’re renting a car to drive to the cape especially in busy season I hope your flight is very early or late because you will be stuck in traffic for hours as well

Driving was interesting as I'm used to lanes and there aren't many lanes here; the roads kind of just throw you in there and see who wins lol. Driving is very challenging in Boston. Many roads that are underground and then have to double back to get on the proper highway. Actually, my Google maps did a reasonable job considering all the underground transportation.

Despite having a reservation, they didn't have our car, and we had to wait over an hour to get a car - it was the worst Enterprise experience we've ever had. Thankfully they worked with us in Burlington to get a different car, which was appreciated, and they offered a small discount. But overall super poorly managed situation. I booked on Kayak and was told by Sixt desk that there was no car available. The third party service booked me for a non existent car. I had to quickly book directly with another rental company. Sixt should not let third party companies book cars if they don’t have capacity.

The service was terrible. It truly was. The service desk took over an hour long. The lineup to get cars for all of us took over an hour. It was crazy. There were no cars available at all. Some had waited from 11:30 am to 2:30pm. Mine was for 12:30. The car had huge scratches down the side. And your staff that drove the cars in after being washed. Well you should see how they drive in the pick up spot. Like nascar. And I’m surprised they haven’t smashed into the wall and damaged your cars.

When I picked up my car there were issues created by one of the customer service reps. I was expecting a bigger can than Kia Teluride as we were going to be 6 adults travelling. The lugage space was very small. I was given the option to check it or leave it. I saw that they upgraded cars not for one but for two customers and I asked if it can be done for me too. I was told to pay for it for no reason. I declined and I told them it is poor customer service to deny one and allow others. Then comes the biggest shock I was told to take another car instead of the one I was shown to try. No explanation again take it or leave it. Since I was running late I took a car and discovered that the back seat was not vaccumed and cleaned. We got wedding party favors and more. This is for me my last booking through Kayak (they informed me even the insurance I bouthg is not good) and from Budget.

My experience was horrible with my Hertz rental. I have been a Hertz customer over 40 years and part of the President’s Circle. When I returned my car in Boston as I was getting on the shuttle bus to catch my flight got text. Damage found on car from AI. I returned to customer service and demanded to see the damage. There was a tiny scratch on one tire rim the customer service person had the look for because he was having a hard time finding it. Said there was nothing they could do because it was the AI machine and not them that picked up the scratch. I said this is great way to lose customers . He said he understood and that they are losing employees as well because they have to deal with all thus AI and nothing they can do. I have to call the 800 number for the AI company but he would put it report that I did not hit anything and did not do the damage. They were charging me $250 for damage plus $125 for admin fee. The next morning I called the 800 number and was told I have to speak to claims. They transferred me. Claims stated there was no report from customer service they could see. If it was put in yesterday it would take 4 business days before they could see the report. I would have to call back. How ridiculous they have machine that can see the tiniest of scratches instantly and create a charge to you. However a report that was created electronically will take 4 days for them to see. They loss this customer and everyone I talk to and do business with.

Everything was great except that when I checked in the employee sold me an additional insurance that I thought was a liability deposit that would be returned upon the cars return. She made it seem like it not negotiable but it added $300 on my bill after returning the car yesterday. I don’t think that is fair. You need to clearly state that the additional insurance is not necessary. My personal car insurance would have covered this issue. There was no option on the screen to opt out and I asked several questions about the necessity of this issue. She made it sound like it was a deposit and no negotiation. Ugh now I paid close to 1000 dollars Instead of the $600 I had planned for.

I did like the drop off system, very easy and convenient. I wasn’t happy with not having enough signs telling me where to go at the terminal and also at the rental building, since I did the paperwork online. I had a car reserved for me but the clerk gave a different key and car, that slowed down the process of me leaving the building. The cleaning and readiness of the car was mediocre.

Double charged (not pending holds--actual charges) and still waiting for a response from the company. Many pre-trip messages insisting that I should check in online to "skip the desk and go straight to the car." Fortunately I didn't do that, because upon arrival, numerous unhappy travelers were turned away at the garage and sent back to the desk to check in. There were physical signs everywhere asking people to check in online and go straight to the garage. Terrible treatment at the desk. The person lied and said, verbatim, "We only have electric cars right now." and asked if I needed instructions on how to find charging stations. I insisted on a gas car and suddenly he was able to make one available--for twice the price we had reserved online! Don't lie to me and say there are not any gas cars then. Bad service in general too. He asked me how to spell my name WHILE actively holding my photo ID, and then later asked "What kind of card is that" after I had paid. (He meant Visa vs. Mastercard, which, again, you have my card. Stop wasting my time.) Car center console was dirty with brown sticky residue. Horrible experience start to finish, and I'm still not even finished since I'm still waiting for the charges to be corrected.

I accidentally rented an electric car… in thrifts defense I did not read the description before I purchased. It wasn’t until I was 30m away from the airport that I realized. Took forever to charge the car. The car only had 200mi on it to empty when I rented it. Also did not interact with anyone to get the car it was all online, turned in the keys to a human but that’s it.

Gave me a nearly 3 year old beater van (I recenter a standard sedan) that had a shoddy transmission and had dings and scrapes all over it. Then tried to blame a ding on me. Fortunately, I took a video before driving off the lot so I could successfully contest the claim, but the quality of vehicle and obvious attempt to scam me make me never want to rent from Dollar again (or Hertz group in general).

My experience was outstanding! Excellent car, spotless and fun to drive. I left my phone in the car and went back to retrieve it. The customer service rep took my information and went looking for the car. Ten minutes later she came back with it in her hands. What a great relief 😅

Easy pick up and drop off for the most part at the airport except the National employees weren’t at the counter when flights got in making a great many people standing in line for both National and Alamo so the Alamo people could help us.

Cons:

Car smelled like something had been either in the car and got moldy or a wet animal had been inside causing the first day to be almost Unbearable to drive in.

No one at counter at BOS upon arrival at 10:30pm. No sign saying to go up to where cars are. Finally found my way there. After saying they didn’t have the 8 seat suburban available that I had reserved, they eventually found one. Everything was great after that.
