Not the best experience
Pros: Car rental places at the Seattle airport are always easy to get to, and well marked.
Cons: Dollar representatives at the counter are on the rude side when you decline insurance, and advise you will fill up with gas. I've rented from them 3 times in the last month and I always have to ask them to repeat themselves, due to mumbling and talking quietly. On one return I was told there was damage to the car - I inspected it with the return agent who then I said I did not have damage and walked off. A month later I got a bill in the mail - communication is poor and not real friendly.

Not what I reserved
Pros: Clean vehicle minus the water spots. Easy drop off.
Cons: After a two hour delayed flight I got to the SeaTac Dollar counter at a quarter to ten and they did not have the class of car I reserved, at all. They bumped me up to the next size and made me pay the difference which was considerably more than I had budgeted. The clerk spoke decent English but had such a thick accent it was frustrating trying to get anywhere close to understanding what he was explaining about the company policies. I also could not get an answer as to why I signed up and was billed for the collision insurance when I made my reservation but had no confirmation email or record through them.
This was my first rental and I had a few other follow up questions, so as not to incur any other costs. The clerk rushed over the details and made gestures at the small print on the paperwork and made me feel like an idiot. I will never give my business to Dollar again.

Thorn causes huge expense
Pros: Easy to pick up & return. Clean.
Cons: Paid more than the quote i was given when i reserved on KAYAK. We had a slow leak in a tire from a big thorn. Called & told we were responsible for repair. Took to Subaru dealership. Tire couldn't be repaired, had to replace. Spent over $250. Talked to office upon return - told we would hear from them about submitting claim for some reimbursement for brand new tire. We've heard nothing in a week & were charged fully for vehicle.

Stressful+Poor service = Not renting from Payless
Pros: Car was clean -- so good.
Guys not at the counter are great -- the ones giving you your keys and are there when you drop off the car.
Cons: Employee at counter will try to sell you all kinds of insurance -- know your stuff before going in.
They will actively manipulate you with negative statements about your insurance.
They will not use price points but continually try to upgrade you or sell you things you don't need.
It was NOT an easy pick up.

Easy in Seattle
Pros: They had the car I reserved despite my arriving late in the day. A big plus in my book! All the other budget car rental places I have used in the past have not had what I requested and "upgraded" me to a mini van (not an upgrade in my opinion) or I could pay more for a mid-size vehicle. The whole process with Payless was easy and quick with friendly service. The car was clean and ran well. I'll use them again. Helpful hint when renting in Seattle.....ask about Toll Fees!

Do not rent from Payless on CarRentals.com via KAYAK
Cons: SUMMARY: All bad: KAYAK, CarRentals.com, Payless and Fox
Just before leaving on my trip, I reserved a last minute car rental, and received a confirmation from CarRentals.com, the site that KAYAK referred me to for the reservation.
CarRentals.com emailed me a confirmation code with correct dates, times, price and car details.
On arriving in the Seattle airport car rental facility, I went to the Payless counter to pick up the vehicle and was told that the did not have a car for me. I informed them that I had a confirmation code but was told that CarRentals.com does not know how many cars the Payless location has available so the confirmation is worthless.
Payless then referred me to Fox, who did have a car, but whose rental policies ended up having a ton of hidden fees, so it was not a good deal in the end.
I advise against using KAYAK, because they referred me to CarRentals.com. I highly advise against using CarRentals.com because they not only confirmed a reservation that was incorrect, but also apparently signed me up AND CHARGED MY CARD for travel insurance that I did not want/need - it's possible that I accidentally left a box checked, but I did not have to fill out any additional information for the insurance, so it must have been in the fine print somewhere - and since I did not even get the car (or get charged for it), the insurance should have been cancelled too, because there was nothing to insure.
Pros: Ease of rental, got lucky with a brand new car, nice features, easy system for pickup and dropoff.
Cons: Had to walk a bit from the airport to the mariott location as I didnt realize it was an off airport location. However it still turned out better than expected in spite of this.

Who knew there were 2 different "airport" locations!
Pros: When I finally got my rental car, it was very nice, new, and clean. The girl at the Hertz desk at the Marriott was very personable, and even walked out to the car with me to show me some of its features. I would definitely rent from the Marriott airport Hertz location again.
Cons: When booking my rental car, I chose the "airport" location in Seattle. Upon arrival I took the shuttle to the huge car rental location, waited in line over 1/2 hour, only to find that I needed to go to the Hertz desk at the Marriott airport hotel. So, I had to lug all my luggage around the rental car building, find the shuttle back to the airport, then find a different shuttle for the Marriott, get there and get my rental car. I was very frustrated as it took over 90 minutes to do this. If there are 2 "Airport" locations for Hertz, they should specify which one!! Next time I travel to Seattle I will know, and will actually specifically seek out the Marriott location. Not only was it less expensive there, there was no wait, and the customer service folks were all very helpful. Hertz just needs to indicate which location you are renting from.

Pros: Car was clean and fit the needs for our weekend.
Cons: We requested a drop off online at 3pm only to be told when we picked up the car that they closed at 2pm. We had to scramble to change our Ferry reservations and plans. It took WAYYYY too long to get our car. Stood in line for 45 minutes with only 2 people. Also, every other sentence out of the person's mouth was trying to sell me something. Other car rental services have been MUCH quicker. Also, paid for an "upgrade" which apparently means something without an automatic locks or cruise control. Not a great experience.

Canceled at the last minute
Cons: Only hours before I needed the car, Hertz called and told me that none were available. I had to find a different rental service, where there were other people in line because Hertz had canceled on them, too. Totally unacceptable.
Pros: Dropping the car off was great. Didn't really have to do too much.
Cons: I didn't like the fact that you did not tell me about the deposit. So I had to use a different card to begin with. When I brought the car back we were able to put it on the card I wanted it on, but I had to wait a day to get my money back from the card I used to begin with.

Pros: The car was nice and dropoff was pretty easy and quick
Cons: We waited at least 1 hour to pickup the car. I had to change an appointment because they took so long, and so did several other people in line. There were 2 employees working, and 3 empty computer terminals that could have been used, even though reservations specify when rentals will be picked up. The company knew there would be that many people. Once I completed paperwork I wasn't given any instruction on where to go to find the car, so I had to prompt the employee to tell me what to do. Then I had to ask another employee where I could find the keys to the car. Next time I'll happily pay more to avoid such a pickup mess.

Cons: The original vehicle was not the 'type' of car that was listed on the website - it was smaller; even the 'upgrade' was small.
The vehicle itself was a typical rental - it had dings and scratches and was the basic no-frills package.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR VEHICLE FRONT-TO-BACK and fill out the 'vehicle check list'. It was difficult because of the poor lighting in the garage, but write down EVERYTHING.

Picking up away from the airport to save money
Pros: We chose to take a half hour uber ride to pick up our car in order to save some money. Here is what I learned: At a more remote site, despite being promised a small four-door car, all they had were pick- up trucks and a fiat. There would have been many more choices at the airport. We started with the fiat and had to go back and swap the next day because the storage area in a fiat will accommodate a toothbrush and not much more. They tried to charge me for an upgrade, but backed down very easily without me getting angry, and we drove a very comfortable minivan for the duration of our trip.

Rude Counter Agent
Cons: The reservation expired because the time it took to get from the airport to the counter was unavoidably extended. The counter agent told us the reservation expired and then told us we should have arrived to the counter on time and then tried to up-sell us a larger and more expensive car. We moved on to the Alamo counter and were very happy with the service and price we received. I would not use Kayak or E-Z Rent-A-Car again.

Excellent Customer Service; Smoky car
Pros: Our rental agent was amazing in Seattle! She was quick, efficient, did not try to hard sell additional insurance. In addition, she was kind, professional and had excellent customer service skills.
Cons: We picked up the car around 9:00 pm, and the car was parked in a dark area of the garage. I did a walk around inspection and the car looked great, with a few minor scratches. I did not think to check the interior. The interior was clean, but the front seats were really stained and there was a burn mark from a cigarette on the driver's seat. We were also missing a floor mat on the passenger side. But, the worst part was the awful cigarette smoke smell. It was so bad that we often drove with the windows open. My rating reflects the smell; and I will always check the interior before driving away!

Overpriced gas, complicated pick up
Cons: Gas was $6 a gallon upon return, which is standard for rentals, but still terrible. The pick up process was not streamlined, a lot of "give this person this paper", which they didn't need. The companies have computers, use them.

Cons: The first car they gave me clearly had mechanical problems. Also, the attendant did not check the physical condition of the exterior of the car with me. When I came in to return the poorly functioning car for another, I asked for my discount rate (via Kayak) and the woman at the counter said the computer automatically changes it to the full rate when exchanging a vehicle. I insisted on my original rate since the car was performing badly, and I waited around for another 20 minutes while they tried to override the function in the system. I did get a decent car eventually, but it smelled like cigarette smoke. I probably won't risk using them again.

Pros: I liked how easy it was to get a decent price on a rental car at the last minute. When we first walked up to the counter to rent the car the lady at the counter told us that it was going to be over $200 to drive one way from Seattle to Spokane. I thought to myself there has to be a cheaper rental. So I got on my handy-dandy cell phone and looked up cheap car rentals. Thank God for kayak.com. using the service saved me about $100.

Cons: I booked on Kayak and printed out my confirmation sheet with the total being $48.15 for one day rental. When I left the counter at Seattle the total was much higher without changing any part of the reservation. The new total was $95.26. I was in a hurry and didn't have my eye glasses to dispute it. After searching for my car which was under an AVIS sign (apparently you had to know they are all one company) which was frustrating I got in the car to find out the fuel tank was half full with gas. I stopped at the counter and the person reprinted my rental agreement indicating that and he told me to return the car with a half tank of gas. The next day I realized that I would be late returning the car so I stopped by the budget rental and the lady rebooked me for another day instead of extending this reservation. It was cheaper and she quoted me at $48 dollars. When I got the final bill on my statement the total was $197.93 almost double as I was told or my reservation has. I learned that Budget has hidden costs and not to assume that your original agreement is valid.
Pros: Very simple pick up and drop off after hours with flexible return hours!

Pros: Dennis Zapata stayed late to process our rental even though the office was closed and Anna Edwards responded quickly and generously to an issue with the cleanliness of the vehicle.

bad car, unexplained charges
Cons: The car was awful to drive, uncomfortable seat, awkward steering wheel positioning, the auxiliary audio input didn't work, it doesn't have cruise control, the steering was loose and not very responsive; I know it was a compact car but I've driven other compact/economy cars that were so much better than this one.
The pick up was fine, good customer service and I was in and out fairly quickly.
The drop off not so much, the customer service person was not friendly, I handed her the keys and she looked at me like "what are you still doing here"? Then she asked me if I wanted a receipt and I said "Yes please". She didn't speak another word to me and then typed up the receipt and handed it to me, no eye contact, no words. The receipt was for around $83 which was the estimated total cost when I reserved the car so that was nice. But then the next day I got another charge for $24.01 with no explanation, no e-mail, no phone call, no nothing. What was this charge for?! The car had more gas in it when I dropped it off than it did when I picked it up. The car was clean, I even picked up some trash that was in it before I picked it up. There was no damage, I returned it hours earlier than I needed to. This was a terrible experience and I will never use Alamo again.

Cons: "Premium" didn't seem to be an actual category when I arrived to pick up my rental. I was asked how many were in my group and then offered a camaro. When I asked for a four door sedan I was told a charger was expected within 2 hours. I chose an SUV which was okay but not what I reserved. The description of a premium car was a Chrysler 300 or similar when I booked. It was clear this was not an option when I arrived.

Pros: Great car. Glad the provided explanation about tolls.
Cons: Picking up the care took close to an hour because the line was long and there were not enough people on staff to move through it quickly. I also tried calling the drop off location a few times to see if a slight extension was acceptable, but no one ever answered the phone.

She was quick, efficient and friendly - which is a huge change from experiences I've had with other rental companies who are typically staring at their computer, and unfriendly.
