Video and check your rental thoroughly . Most vehicles are manual transmission so if you need an automatic request one. Have some form of GPS either your phone or built in the car. Roads in Ireland outside of cities are pretty narrow with limited passing areas and the occasional farm vehicle. People tend to drive slower than posted limit. Be patient. And Keep left : ie steering wheel to road centre line not curb side 😁 Be safe

I think I'd suggest going straight to the rental companies and making sure all your coverages and requirements are booked in advance. It is very confusing and stress inducing when your unsure and making changes to the reservation at the airport / airport lot.

No issues with SIXT itself. I see now that Kayak charged me for 13 days of rental when I only booked the car for 12 days. Also, even though I provided information on both drivers, SIXT was only provided the data on the secondary driver which delayed pickup and risked causing me to have additional charges. SIXT staff at Dublin airport were absolutely fantastic and did everything they could to ensure I avoided any additional charges due to Kayak’s errors.

The car had a pretty severe dent on the side when we went up to get it. The attendants do not accompany you to the car so there was no way to switch to an intact car. It was an uncomfortable ride, but we managed well. The attendants were very kind. The wait to pick up the car was a bit insane. A line was out the door and hugged the lane of car park traffic coming in. Pretty dangerous. All in all an okay experience. The guys there need a raise for the amount of traffic and business they get.

Car wasn’t as clean as I would have thought they should be for new users The guy who checked us in and the guy who received us after were great! We decided to add a driver after we left and we called Hertz to add a driver and we were told we had to find a nearby Hertz and travel to it. The person on the call told us we could t add someone over a call. When we interrupted our vacation time and walked to a nearby Hertz, the guy said, “You could’ve just did this over the phone.” So, this guy knew his business. I wish people on the phone would be trained correctly because that cost us part of our short three days in Ireland.

I have rented a car and prepaid all taxes and service fees before travelling to Ireland with a fully paid and non refundable reservation number from Kayak. My husband was the driver of this vehicle and presented to the airport for pick up on August 19, 2023. He travels extensively for work and has a credit card that covers Collision Damages Waiver and Theft Protection. He explained this clearly to the agent Michael, who insisted that he would be required and it was MANDATORY (the words exactly used) to purchase these. He upsold him the Supercover insurance and told my husband that this is mandatory. I examined the contract when he returned and told me the nature of this conversation. Having lived and studied in Ireland myself for 5 years, I did my due diligence and inquired from other car rental agencies and examined the legislation within Ireland to determine the validity of these claims. My clear understanding is that Third Party Liability insurance is a legal requirement in the prepaid price of all car rentals in Ireland, protecting from property damage, injury and death. Fire insurance is also included in this prepaid price. If the CDW and TP is declined or that written proof is required and the customer declines this, a credit card authorization of a larger amount can be applied to the rental. These options were not presented and in fact, miscommunicated at the time of rental by your agent Michael. This should be investigated and the insurance reimbursed, or at the very least the supercollision insurance that was in fact, not required.

Staff were very helpful at Avis but the insurance fees were outrageous and tripled the cost of the rental. That being said, I cannot commend them enough for how they handled our return of the car early due to COVID-19

Cons:

Quote insurance in advance and do a better job describing luggage space. We did not have enough space for 4 large pieces of luggage in this car

The counter rep with whom we dealt with when we picked up the car, Grace, was very competent but friendly and helpful as well. The rep who went over the car with us was equally competent and friendly. Lastly, the rep we dealt with when we turned in the car, Dan, was also friendly and helpful. The staff was very helpful. They were super great with telling me how to use the car. I have only driven in the US so I'd never driven on the left, and he was very helpful with giving me info. One thing is the building says Hertz and I thought we went to the wrong location, I didn’t know it was Dollar as well, however that is minor.

Totally misleading, quoted $125 for the car then pushed us to take a bigger car and wouldn’t accept the insurance we already had. Total got to almost $1,000 after they added their insurance. Cancelled and went with Budget. Got a very nice car with insurance for $600. Stay far away!

The wait time at Dublin Airport is ridiculous. The staff push you to upgrade services, like adding unnecessary additional insurance, and to pay more for a car with an automatic. They also said they had photographed the damage on the car, but had not photographed all damage, I insisted they photograph the car completely.

Be very careful about insurance. They will charge a fortune. They are also very careful about giving you a car on the basis that your credit card covers the insurance. They will insist on a letter that explicitly states the insurance coverage is good in Ireland. It is not enough for the letter to state "worldwide".

I pay in advance for a full coverage insurance and at the counter for check in they told me that they didn’t accept the insurance I hired and charged me a ridiculous amount for a new insurance. They also charged a different price for the rental. The car was all scratched. Other than that, everything was okay.

Payless cancelled / deleted my reservation without notice. I attempted to contact Payless through website, and they said there wasn’t a reservation. Good thing a companion had made another reservation

I used my credit card’s insurance guarantee, but nowhere in the reservation did it say that to do do ALSO required a letter from my credit card company stating (1) that they cover the Republic of Ireland, (2) they will cover the lace loss if totaled, and (3) the last 4 numbers of my cc account. So at the Europcar desk I had to make that phone call, wade through a few phone trees, then talk to a couple of humans. I did get the letter (great service by my cc bank!) but I was lucky - that approval process may take up to 24 hours. The Europcar desk agent said this happens “quite a bit” with the brokers because you don’t provide the information about what each rental car company requires to use the cc insurance waiver benefits. I suggest adding a link to your process that will take your to the specific rental car company page for their CDW. I did use the link provided for my rental but it did not say I would have to get the letter etc.

Pros:

The lines were really long with people complaining and not moving. The Payless personnel were in the same space as Budget and Avis and it was hard to tell the difference in who was working what. Eventually all personnel worked on the same long Payless line. Then the price of our car quadrupled.

Georgi was great at check in. The car upgrade to an H-CR was much appreciated and the car itself was great. Checking back in was a pain as we had to queue with the people hiring. A drop box for keys would have been most welcome.

It took way to long to pick up the car (about 45 minutes). We had to wait in a line at the airport, then take a shuttle bus to the rental car lot, then wait in another 15 minute line at the lot, then wait another 10 minutes for our car to be cleaned. Very duplicative and unnecessary. Also, they made us get car insurance even though they had letters from people with the same credit card as us saying that people with that credit card have coverage in Ireland.
