Car we rented started having mechanical issues almost immediately and ultimately broke down. Customer service was helpful and organized in replacing the vehicle but we had to first drive the unreliable vehicle an hour and a half to exchange it. Rental locations are limited and we were staying in the countryside which was why we rented the car to begin with. Second vehicle was good.

DO NOT BOOK A CAR WITH Sicily by Car and Rentalcars.com. We were completely conned out of $2,500. We booked a premium SUV and were told we could only have a VW Golf because we had the wrong type of credit card! Hidden in the terms you need to have a platinum or gold credit card. Despite our credit card limit being more than the value of the car and despite presenting a platinum debit card they refused to give us a car, other than one too small for our family. Rentalcars.com made the booking and we’re not available to help and their app did not allow us to cancel even though we were still within the window to cancel. The following day they were rude and dismissive, stating that we should have read the contract more carefully. Strongly recommend avoiding both companies.

Reserved and pre-paid for Audi Q5 (or similar) through kayak via rentalcars.com with Sicily-by-car. At the rental counter, was informed that I needed either a "gold" or "platinum" level credit card to be able to rent the Audi Q5. My Chase Sapphire Reserve card was not good enough - only showed up as "classic" type of card in their system even though I have a US$80K credit limit, the card is the highest level card offered by Chase, has all sorts of benefits including for international rental vehicle insurance. Was told could either cancel my prepaid car or take a lesser car but would not be given an refund for the difference. Had to take a lesser car to be able to continue with our trip. What a racket!

Massive disappointment!!!! It is absolutely understanding to pay additional money for insurance and everything, but I got slapped with additional 40% tax on top of everything else…. So my $170 reservation came to $500 charge…. Not OK …. Obviously it was useless to try to deal with local office without speaking Italian…. It was just informed- that is what it is….
The staff at the rental office in Rome were great. As was the person in the garage. The fact that the car smelled of tobaco and that there was a half smoked joint on the ground at the passenger side bothered me though. Like I don't judge, but still, would prefer to not have illegal narcotics in my car.

The pick up was really a bad experience we had to wait for an hour and a half because the system at Europcar in Rome airport was not functioning properly and although I went and complained to the staff that I see people came after me and they got seen and me no, they investigated and said basically system isn’t functioning properly today but still served 3 customers before me after admitting it is the system fault, and I also had two young children who just landed from a 6am departure flight! I found this very inappropriate as if it’s system fault and you could see I was there for more than an hour I should be the priority. The car we have been given was a Peugeot not the jeep I booked and I did say I want a jeep but they said all out but when we went to the car park I found many jeeps parked brand new ones, the Peugeot we got is old and the battery was bad not keeping any charge I was stopping every 50 miles to charge the car!! I asked for a newer at the pick up because I knew electric cars has to have a great performing battery if I am doing long drives, this is isn’t my first time hiring an electric car from Europcar, last year got one in Barcelona and the experience was amazing. I won’t recommend the Roma airport desk and would not recommend Europcar in Italy too

1st car, window on drivers side broke, 2nd car had a flat tire. No response from roadside assistance for over 1 hour. Car was towed. Took a taxi to destination €200. Their policy up to €50 reimbursement. Went to the Europcar rental agency that I should have returned the car, to close out my agreement, but they said now customer service will deal with the problem. They have not closed out my rental agreement as of yet. Between the rental, the deposit on my card and the taxi, so far a rental that should have cost me approximately €220, as of now over €900!!!!! Now my only recourse is an email the rental agency gave me to try and resolve the issue!

It took 4.5 hours to pick up our prepaid rental car
Fraudulent 1000 Euro charge for a “no show” pickup after we upgraded vehicles. Upgraded vehicle in question had critical features disabled which was not disclosed to us prior to pick up, making the vehicle largely unusable as intended.

The AdBlue, which we had never heard of being from the USA, had not been topped and we ran out while we were out and had no idea what to do We managed to find some and figure it out, but it wasted a day of travel since we were afraid the car would stop working before we could find some.

Sixt seems challenged with the "left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing." phenomenon. This came up first when a previous reservation and related messages kept popping up, and later when I was given conflicting information about paying a traffic fine. This resulted in piles of paperwork on both sides, confusing communication, and a great deal of frustration for everyone concerned. They need to get their show together, and I'm reluctant to rent from them again until/unless they do..

Very significant hidden on costs at pickup, including extra charges for airport locations for pickup and drop off and additional charge for one way travel. All of these details were know at time of booking and costs should have been clear. I would not have used service if I was aware of these.

They didnt give me car because I don't have international licence. If you check the art 135 highway law, you will see if I have official translation of my driving license I am allowed to drive in Italy. I showed my Canadian driving license and translation but they didn't give my car.

Horrible. Showed up at desk and they couldn’t find me reservation in system even though I provided reservation number and proof of reservation via email. I preordered a HYBRID and upon arrival I was informed they ONLY had 100% electric cars. We were forced to take possession of the electric car. This was highly inconvenient as we had to drive across country and charge the car many many times. It was a complete waste of time and money.
Finding the pick up and drop off was a nightmare and we lost hours of time. Not clear where to catch the shuttle bus in Rome. The locations are not proper on google maps and the address provided exists near the wrong airport in Milan. We loat 1. 5 hours. Also, terrible experience with Marco in Milan, so rude. Receptionists were nice. Car was fine.

When I went to the counter and the Terminal, there was no one after 30 minute waiting somebody told me you need to go to the pick up area. They will serve you from there when I went there. They told me I need international driver license. Also I have Canadian driver license in English, which is due the purpose, but he insist for the international driver license and he said if you want me to take this driver license without International, you need to pay different rate so I refuse I did not take the service
Careful there’s a 1-hour reservation hold time. If your flight is delayed by more than that, they’ll cancel your reservation and make you pay the full charge with insurance to retrieve your booking. IDP also required for foreign travellers not in the EU. Generally nice, but a lot of “nothing I can do it’s the ststem” from the staff. Shuttle comes really slow/late.

The pickup/dropoff part was a disaster. I waited at the FCO airport for “the shuttle” for over an hour, during which time I asked the airport info people where to find the shuttle and they couldn’t help, nor were we able to reach the rental office by phone. So I finally just decided to take a taxi to the office, which was an additional 40.00 euros that SurPrice refused to reimburse me for. Then I waited almost another hour in line at the office just to get my reserved car. The clerk barely spoke English and was rude. They did a terrible job of explaining the rental agreement and failed to give me any kind of print-out or email. Also, the vehicle was only 3/4 full, even though they told me “full to full”. I didn’t have time to go back into the office to argue with them, so I took pictures and left thinking maybe they would credit me when I returned the vehicle. I was wrong. When I dropped off the vehicle, it was basically the same experience which almost caused me to miss my return flight. In retrospect, I wish I would have just paid more for a car rental office located in the airport terminal.

Make sure you have an international drivers license with you, because Surprise will not rent a car to you if you don’t unless you pay for very expensive daily insurance through them. Even though they refused to rent the car, they still charged us the full rental price. The directions for getting the shuttle at the airport were very vague and so finding the shuttle took us over an hour of asking people where to get it (no one knew) and what the shuttle looked like. The whole ordeal was a nightmare

I found out from a taxi driver that the wrong address was listed on my car rental booking confirmation and there was no information about a shuttle/transportation to the location listed as the airport when it was actually somewhere else. I had to pay a taxi driver to bring me to a different address that a free shuttle should have. Beside that, the car worked great and wasn't very clean but otherwise highly functional. No mechanical issues and I was able to catch the shuttle back.

I would give them a zero 0️⃣- we never got our car from them. After arriving at the airport, we made multiple attempts to them to get a shuttle to their location but were not able to reach anyone. We had then take a taxi to their location, where there was no sign for the business. After asking multiple people where they were (not everyone knew who they were), their door was locked. No one at the business. After 2 HOURS f running around, frustrated and having my suitcase damaged, we had another rental company assist us but ended up paying 4x the amount. They even came to the location for ADDCAR and saw the door was locked. Would NEVER recommend this lace y anyone.

They ripped me off by $450, by pretending my documents weren’t valid. My documents were completely valid.
I was given the wrong address for pickup. not sure if this happened on kayaks end or u-saves. the contact information listed, specifically the phone number, was nonfunctional. i wasted hours and money taking a taxi to the listed address which did not service u-save. eventually I was able to contact u-save, and upon arrival was denied rental. I was told that my international driver's permit was invalid, despite previous cross-checks on all of the fine print available. The desk worker said they could not refund me and dismissed me. at which point i had to end up renting another car from the agency next door. this was a horrible experience in terms of time service and money.
