We waited in line for over an hour... there was 1 customer service agent and about 30 people in line. We reserved an intermediate SUV but were given a compact SUV, then told the compact SUV was in the same category as the intermediate. The reason I reserved the intermediate SUV is because I need a blindspot indicator and that is something that has always come standard with an intermediate SUV. The compact SUV category does not have this. Anyway, I tried to get a different car and they refused. The customer service agents were unhelpful. I called Avis, who acquired Budget and they basically told me to get lost over the phone. It was a disappointing experience to say the least so I won't be renting from Budget/Avis again if I can help it.Reviewed 13 May 2026

While I called Budget the day before pickup to make sure a car would be waiting since I was on a tight schedule, and was assured a car would be ready by 8am, when I got there not only was there no car but I was told there is no guarantee there would be a car at anytime that day. Nor were there cars at other lots in Cleveland. I had to wait three hours for a car by which time it was too late to get to the drop off in DC, my destination. I will now have to drop off the car next morning without the benefit of having my friend pick me up as I had arranged the night before, and instead have to take the metro and a 40 minute walk to get where I'm going. The reason I put value as the only high mark is because I was told I would receive a discount after the car was returned. We'll see if Budget actually keeps is word. Went through 4 different cars before I was able to leave with my customers. One was filled with smoke, one looked like it’s had gone through crash test, one I drove off with and had to turn around because it had a flat time and the last one worked and was filthy but I had to get to a meeting and my customers where standing on the heat while I moved cars.Reviewed 18 Aug 2025
