I arrived after the agent closed even though I directly called Avis twice to arrange after hours pick up, as KAYAK advised me to. Avis does not have a 24/7 help line, only a sales line. At 2 am in a city and airport I'd never been in I was left without transportation or immediate help and was told if I didn't return at 7 am I would lose my reservation. Worst rental car experience ever and ended up costing me way more money due to Uber alternative. It was also a massive inconvenience as I was in town for my sister in laws funeral and was supposed to drive guests and family around.Reviewed 9 Sep 2026

They called and said they had to cancel my reservation because they didnt have a car available, even though I had a reservation. They offered no alternative options to me during that call and told me I'd have to call around myself to other Avis locations to see if they had a car and could take my booking. I am glad to have received no extra charge for upgrade and added driver. Vehicle was adequate and ran great. Only concern was that when I checked in to receive the car, the agent wanted to sell me their insurance but I had third-party insurance. She said that if something happened they'd charge my personal vehicle insurance and I'd have to get reimbursement from the third party insurance on my own. I felt that was an unnecessary threat and a way to push me to purchase the Avis insurance. Otherwise, everything went smoothly.Reviewed 9 Sep 2026

Desk clerk was a pain. Gave attitude and just wasn’t really friendly. Kayak messed up here not informing that picking up rental for one way trips requires a credit card $200 credit card hold and that you can’t use debit. We didn’t have a credit card to use so I had to change the reservation to a different person and they had to drive I couldn’t drive because of not being able to pay with credit card.Reviewed 9 Sep 2026
