Pickup from AKL was confusing, drop off was not at the terminal but at the pickup area. Car collection was complicated by the software they insisted I use not working on the terminal they assigned me (worked on other terminal). Received an email the following day requesting additional documentation which by then was impossible to supply. Address listed on the invoice I received was not the physical location of the car depot.
The third party we dealt with auto union in Auckland was awful. They were late giving us the car. Made us buy double insurance. Would not recommend.
The car I booked was old and I didn’t felt comfortable driving it, so was able to upgrade for a newer model with integrated gps. However the reverse camera wasn’t working making parking a little bit harder. Plus there were no sensors anywhere nor had it cruise control. It did have a camera to record movement and driving which was nice to have. The customer service was great and very helpful.
Overall below average experience. Waited 40 minutes for the shuttle bus from Auckland airport. Pick up was fine and didn’t take too long! The car itself was 10 years old and quite tired, lots of signs of poorly repaired damage and wear to the bodywork and interior, chip on the windscreen. The interior really needed a deep clean, lots of visible dirt in the small gaps around the dashboard, centre console, gear stick. The aircon blower would stop working 15-20 minutes into the each journey, (would work again at the start of each journey after the car has been rested). Car was comfortable otherwise, no mechanical issues. The drop off was quick and efficient.
My Toyota Aqua hybrid car had a faulty battery. It died while I was on the road and I had to call AA to get boosted. Luckily I was in an area that had mobile reception, but they recommended I don't move forward with my roadtrip as I was going remote and mechanics/shops would be closed on weekends. It made the experience stressful! And the USB port couldn't charge my phone. I thought it was a cable issue, reason why I stopped along the journey to buy a new one, only to come back to a dead car battery!
I booked with Kayak, was contacted by QEEQ, and got my car from auto union. On pickup I had to pay an age excess, of which I had not been advised. See my emails to QEEQ. Also your site would not allow me to indicate my time of arrival/departure. (12 noon only). I will not book through an intermediary again!
