Stay away from HERTZ in Tulum. They had my reservation. They asked if I wanted their insurance, I declined and said my credit card would cover. They said that they didn't have that agreement with credit card card companies and told me I'd need a $2,000 deposit. So I had to take a taxi for $120.Reviewed 22 Feb 2025

It tool over 2 hours to pick up the car after the check in . We had a baby with us so after long travel this is unacceptable. The reason we were given for the wait so that they need to clean the car after they were dropped off. The car we received was not cleaned. Check in process took forever. Car wasn’t ready had to wait for almost an hour outside at the pickup spot. Car was dirty on arrival. Also at the drop off it took awhile and then not enough room in the shuttle so had to wait again for next shuttle to come. Overall it was okReviewed 9 Feb 2025

The car price doubled when I arrived.. forced to purchase insurance for $40 a day (for 10 days). Didn’t have the car I reserved and had to get a compact. Took 2 hours in line to get even that.. the whole experience was just miserable getting the car. Once we had it, we used it..but it was half the size we had requested for our family of four and all our luggage. Never again use hertz abroad!Reviewed 9 Jan 2025

Do not rent from here. I had reserved a car several weeks in advance of my arrival to Tulum, had received email confirmations, and when we got to the pickup counter they said they no longer had cars and did not do anything to help us. We were left scrambling to find another available car at another company for 3x the price. Very disappointed.Reviewed 4 Jan 2025

I sure hope I don’t get charged for renting a car in Tulum Mexico only to show up and Hertz running out of cars. The lines were really long indicating it was either understaffed or that the staff wasn’t very effective. Either way a poor experience last Saturday (12/21).Reviewed 29 Dec 2024

I used hertz at the tulum airport because the other rental place had awful reviews but i cannot imagine how it could be worse than hertz. Pickup: you start at a line inside, which took about 30 mins to get through. Then once we were done there they told us we had to wait 40 more minutes (not sure for what- they didn’t tell us) and told us to just hang around and someone would get us. No one came to get us so after 40 mins we went back up and they told us to go outside. There was another line!!! This line was even worse because it was in the direct sun and super hot and no one outside appeared to know what they were doing. Waited about 30 more minutes for them to tell us the car needed to be washed still. We told them we didn’t care so they gave us the car dirty(fine) and not filled up with gas (!!!) The car itself was fine. Nothing broke through the ac seemed to be funky a few times. Drop off: less painful than pickup but still not a smoothness experience compared to other drop offs. Drop it off outside, then they tell you to go wait inside to “check out” and the most annoying part here was that there was a pretty long line and what appeared to be about 6 employees just sitting there on their phones. Not a great experience when you know people are probably in a time crunch since we’re AT THE AIRPORT. Overall get charged any extra fees like fake mileage/damage or anything so not a scam but just a pretty poorly run business.Reviewed 10 Nov 2024
