The whole hotel experience at the George Hotel was completely faultless. The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. The rooms were spotless, warm and very comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious. The flight was cancelled on our return and had to stay at the George Hotel an extra night, the staff welcomed us back with mulled wine! Excellent stay, thank you.
The hotel was in central Edinburgh and close to all the attractions.the room was very spacious Lack of parking as public parking very expensive.
location, standard of accommodation bedrooms were very warm even with no heating on. We were unable to open a window due to noise on street. This was a minor complaint.
Location, cleanliness and the staff who welcomed at door. They have a great manner and seem genuinely want to please guests. Reception staff need much more warmth, smile more and actually treat people as such. Rooms clean bu quite small for price - felt a little cramped at time.
I booked a room at The George Hotel as a special birthday treat for my husband. I wanted somewhere right in the city and this was the perfect location, we even managed to find a parking space! The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was lovely and the bed was possibly the most comfortable I have ever stayed in!
very enjoyable stay in a superb hotel, excellent meals, very helpful staff, nothing too much trouble to make our stay memorable
The hotel kindly acknowledged our anniversary. All the staff were wonderful.
Location. Friendly Staff. The new bar/restaurant area looks good however the only downside is the seating area near the bar soon filled up and even though there were empty tables on the lower floor level there seemed to be a reluctance to give these to guests who just wanted a drink. The reception area is still going through refurbishment which meant long queues soon began to build up when guests began arriving in numbers which was an inconvenience to be honest. No doubt this will be resolved when the work is completed.
enjoyed the comfort and eating at the restaurant
From the minute I walked into the hotel I felt very welcomed. The staff were attentive and perfectly freindly and professional. I travel alot internationally and truthfully feel that this was one of the best hotel experiences I've had in my life. Being that I do travel alot, it means the world when you can sleep peacefully in extreme comfort. From arrival to departure the George was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend it and will return there when in Edinburgh. A gentleman named " Willy" was a gem, very helpful. Thank You.
Brilliant location for all the reasons anyone would visit Edinburgh - sites shops reatauramts
almost everything the cooked breakfast wasn't hot enough
the pool and breakfast in bed friendly staff lack off parking for near hotel access also i bumpd the back of my car parking outside as you have to reverse park on a busy road!
Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.
Most comfortable bed I've ever slept in! Lighting was rather dim & furniture was slightly dusty.
Central Location - 1 min from bus & train station, shopping centre, pubs & restaurants, Spa Facilities and Staff were also excellent
The location of the hotel is perfect to enjoy Edimburgh, very clean hotel and the staff was very good, also the cocktails are well worth a try! It was a very good stay, if anything the hotel should install doubble glazing or double windows, also having to queue for breakfast in a 4 star hotel is not really good so make the most of the breakfast in your room for an extra £2.50, that was perfect and on time! no queue!
The rooms were clean and comfortable and the spa was very relaxing.
Excellent room. Sauna, steam room & pool facilities very good.
Beautiful, brand new hotel. Our city double room was lovely and fairly spacious. Staff were lovely, very pleasant and helpful. None really, other than we didn't receive our complimentary newspaper, but we weren't bothered enough about it to enquire.
Staff were wonderfully helpful. The fitness room was very well-appointed. There was no chair (except for the desk chair) in the room, and the restaurant could use some improvement in quality.
the hotel was central comfortable good facilities and hotel staff v.ery helpful and courteous
The location was perfect, the staff very helpful and the rooms were good size and perfectly clean.... I would definately stay at this hotel again
Hotel and staff were excellent and perfect location, will stay there again.
location and staff air conditioning-room was too hot at night.
comfort and proximity to the highlights of the city Had stayed there on previous occasions
Staff were very helpful. Rooms too hot but they did bring a fan on request which helped a little.
Relaxing time spent with a friend. Enjoyed Indian head massage although would have preferred it without a top on rather than my arms and shoulders being massaged over my clothes! The breakfast on Saturday was cold...the sausages & bacon were undercooked!
the friendliness and helpfulness of staff and the proximity of hotel to shops and bus stops I felt that the hallways on the way to the rooms were a bit shabby looking
Site, staff, facilities and room No
Booked valentine dinner online, yet when we went down for dinner 1 hour before dinner was supposed to be finished we were told that we were not allowed in. The guy in the resturant was very unhelpful talking over everything I said to him.
Hotelroom Temperature in bar very cold, barkeeper not very friendly (I have no time to make tea)
Location Room sizes very small and not suited for two people
We liked our room, the bed was comfortable and the room temperature was perfect. The service at reception was excellent, with very friendly staff. the location is perfect for a city break in Edinburgh and overall was worth the money. There was a cleaning problem at the hotel which meant unfortunately a terrible stench was very evident outside the gents toilet in the reception area, which you had to pass to get to the ladies. The hotel did apologise. Also, someone else was able to charge drinks at the bar to our room. We were given the bill on departure, but the member of staff on reception was quick to accept that it had not been us and tore up the bill. They had not obtained a signature for the bar bill. We had paid for all our extras - food and drinks - in cash at the time of purchase. Hotels must get signatures for all extras to avoid this sort of problem. Despite the comfort of the bedroom, the room was a little dark.
The Hotel room is quite good, and also the location. quite central Staff could be a little bit more professional
very central for city, modern ,,comfortable beds and a mini bar the shower was fantastic
stylish room, friendly staff, convenient location hotel very noisy at night due to nightclub downstairs
Good location for central edinburgh, excellent service from friendly staff The bar was full in the early evening due to Christmas parties-some service such as a reserved area could have been made available for hotel residents.
Comfortable and walking distance to attractions. Helpful front desk lady. Clean room. Flatscreen tv and extra speaker in bathroom was a delightful bonus. Shower was difficult to use as there was no shower curtain and water sprayed everywhere in bathroom. Hotel restaurant was poorly staffed at breakfast.
Fantastic cooked breakfast. Nice decor in room. Great location. Nothing
The staff was very friendly. The rooms were clean and the location was very good. The showers didn't have doors or curtains so the water always got everywhere
We had a problem and had to leave early. Please be aware that the young lady on reception on Sunday am was excellent.
the rooms were elegant, well designed, functional and comfortable. also on the back of the hotel v quiet. the staff were very helpful. I would definitely come back to the Hudson. Pop music in the bar at breakfast time and when I said that I was leaving because of it, nobody offer to turn it down or off. I did not eat breakfast and therefore did not spend 10 pounds in the hotel.
Comfortable, clean & friendly in great location. Nice breakfast Evening meal a bit disappointing -starters freshly prepared & tasty. Main course did not live up to description but filled a gap. Setting basic rather than romantic. However very handy for a late arrival on a wet evening & reasonable price for Edinburgh.
Its convenience for a city break plus comfort and value Should of stayed longer.
Very central and comfortable. The breakfast was reasonable quality and room was clean and comfortable
A clean and tidy hotel with good facilities and helpful staff Some rooms at the top of many flights of stairs
Excellent breakfast, friendly staff great location minor point: poor baggage-leaving area - not secured or really watched, didn't use it.
Location is perfect for exploring Edinburgh on foot Old rooms, bad beds, poor hygiene, breakfast not so nice.
the room nothing to declare
Hotel is in aquite place, yet very central. Rooms are clean and refurbished in a contemporary style. Rooms are a bit small.
ountry House hotel feel, staff very friendly, room very clean and well serviced. Restaurant quite small, not advised to book when checking in so not always possible for all residents to eat dinner.Single beds a little close together. Not sure what was 'special' about the special twin room.
This hotel provided good service at a price which is acceptable and the location is idea
The building has got plenty of character and was very clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpfuland ithe restaurant good. It was very central but in a quiet location.
Beautiful historic hotel in the perfect location. The staff could not have done more to be helpful. The room was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The bathroom was spectacular. The light level in the room was so subdued that it was difficult to see inside your suitcase. Other than that no complaints at all.
Hotel staff are very attentive and quality of the meals excellent.
Everything about this hotel is fantastic, and consistently so. The service in particular is always outstanding.
The One restaurant has excellent and unusual food servewd by impecably trained servers.
very very good had all we required Evert up its standard
the staff were lovely booked double executive room, but think we got a budget room double bed two different height mattresses. asked them to sort it, they didnt. bathroom poor room smaller than stated in description
Lovely room, thoughtfully decorated, wonderful service.
The Number One was a tremendous experience. The hotel and restaurant staff could not have been better during our stay. I would simply say keep it up!
The restaurant "Number one": excellent staff, good food. The location of the hotel and the view on the old city. Very noisy hotel, not enough privacy: train station beneath the hotel, doors being smashed all day, staff knocking on doors to check on the room too often. The room had not been refurbished in a very long time. The bed was not particularly confortable. Much too expensive for the service provided and quality of the rooms.
Beautiful room, very comfortable and with all appliances that I could possibly need The receptionists were useless...unable to give me directions or bus numbers from the airport to the hotel. They were unable to answer my basic questions about the surrounding area. There were very loud and noisy restoration works in the dining room during our breakfast. We were not warned about this and really tarnished our image of the hotel as their work was prioritised over the guests comfort.
We were shown to a double although had booked a twin, but from that point staff were helpful and efficient. Good breakfast. Excellent location with car parking. The decor was very dark, too dark for my liking. Furniture and carpet showed wear and tear.
good location of hotel
Quiet location and near to the city centre
large comfortable bedrooms, good location, excellent food, pleasent and helpful staff.
Very nice hotel, excellent location, very comfortable and spacious room, very well priced Was a bit of a trip up and down corridors and stairs with loaded bags no lift
The deluxe bedroom was spacious and well presented. The hotel was located very close to the city centre which was convenient yet still quiet. The staff were not readily available for guests at reception or breakfast.
I really like how different the hotel was to most...updated and very sharp. Nothing...it was really nice.
I loved my room and the actual hotel building was old and lovely.
Location The hotel was like a rabbit warren. The telephone in the room did not work and I had to get dressed three times to go down to reception and got lost twice on the way. The bath flooded!! The tv in the bathroom did not work.
The staff were lovely, and the hotel was in a great location and extremely cosy. We were dissapointed with the breakfast on offer. We woud of liked the choice of a cooked breakfast.
Clean, great location Bathroom seemed like it was for handicapped people
The view, the convenience for the station and it was central for all the attractions, castle , gardens , etc. It was very good that you could leave bags on your day of departure ( travelodge charge £3.00 per bag ). Although clean enough the hotel looked a little bit worn and could do with smartning up
In the city centre Far too noisy if over looking Prince's Street
Excellent city centre location, helpful and friendly on reception, liked ability to have breakfast delivered to room. Didnt find staff very helpful in breakfast room, had to continually ask for coffee then no milk on table. Despite staying on my own in double room tried 2 charge for 2 breakfasts each morning on leaving.
Lovely views. Not hearing the people in the room next door. Every staff member we spoke to were curtious and happy to help us. Cleanliness of rooms. Hot shower whenever we wanted. Plenty of tourist brochures. Reasonably priced meals in the Dining Room.
Easy access to city sites, good food, pleasant bar staff No
The location right on Princes Street is nice. The water came out the tap yellow. Also, they need to upgrade the plumbing fixtures so that hot and cold water aren't separate taps. The surcharges for Internet and even TV (!!!) were outrageous. I've never stayed at a hotel that required patrons to pay extra for basic TV.
Easy access to the high street and other local amenities. Breakfast selection was good and evening was reasonable. No all dishes were of a high standard. My friend's main course was only just warm and not the same standard as my fish dish, which was very good. Unfortnately the room we were given had had a flood the previous night and the carpet was soaking wet. They should not have offered to room that evening.
hotel placed in an ideal position for ease of getting around edinburgh and a nice place to chill out
TV Price for breakfeast and evening dinner is a rip-off. Would never eat there!
Location to station and shops/restaurants etc Wi-Fi had been free before...but you're now charging!!, which I wasn't aware of till checked-in.
Location of hotel on Princes Street, excellent breakfast and great view of castle from room. nothing our visit was fine
For us the location was the spot on, being ony minutes from the railway station and in the centre of the city and shopping district. The Hotel was comfortable and the buffet breakfast was very good Whilst the service in the restaurant was good this was not always the same at the reception or the bar
Friendly staff My room was small. Unwelcoming entrance hall.
the breakfast and the size of the room. the location as well!
Location The merchant's website is not elaborative if you open a mobile version. It didnt show to book for a child. I was fooled by the same as had to pay extra for my child. For some reason, they charged me the whole amount for bfast inclusive, but bfast deal wasn't showing. I travelled from India and had the worst experience as had to check out early.
location dated decor, no iron/ironing board, unfriendly staff
Ideal location, clean room, comfortable stay no proper view of the outside. Staff could have been friendlier
Nice place, central location, staff were friendly, a good experience.
coffee was made in apot previously used for making tea; therefore coffee was awful
The central position on Princes Street, so convenient for buses, walking to tourist places and resturants.
I was attracted by its remarkable location, less than a minute from the train station. But i was most impressed by the quiet of its rooms. Ask for a quiet room and you will forget you are in the heart of a major city. And the staff are excellent. They are in the process of redoing the rooms. The one I stayed in was somewhat dated but perfectly comfortable..
Good value for money, staff hekpful, excellent location near Waverly and the centre
the hotel staff the breakfast was too basic
Staff was friendly Decoration and facilities are very poor, furniture not maintained properly. We had small mirror in the bathroom and no sockets for using hair dryer near to it. If you will decide to stay in this hotel don’t forget to bring toilet rolls with you – we didn’t have them in bathroom room.
Great location,friendly staff.
It is close to city Our room was in the cellar. There is no maybe on the Q would you recommend this hotel?
Situation: convenient walking distance from centre of Edinbugh; spacious, clean, comfortable rooms; most staff friendly and helpful Breakfast mediocre. Minor irritations e.g. only a net curtain on the bathroom so night time visits had to be without light to avoid becoming an extra festival venue for the benefit of the people in the buildings opposite. Our main irritation was that because of overbooking we had to be moved from one room to another after the first night of our three night stay. This news was broken to us in what felt like an off-hand manner with barely an apology for this move. Secondly, having to queue for breakfast on two out of three mornings, in one case for over twenty minutes was less than ideal.
This is a beautiful hotel - my room was particularly pleasing with a good view of the surrounding area. It is centrally located - just 7 minutes from Princess Street.
The room was large and beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was first class. No
Location and car parking. Also very nice en suite bathroom. Rather poky dark basement room with smell of bacon from very early
Perfect location, friendly staff, tea/coffee facilities in the room, good Scottish breakfast. Excellent value for money. No fridge/minibar in the room. The hotel is located on the 3rd-4th floors, and there is no lift, so this may be a problem for those who prefer using the lift to climbing the stairs and/or have loads of luggage.
Great location. Very small room and noisy at night.
Central location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Shower and toilet across the hall.
The staff went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable and even offerred to provide an earlier than usual breakfast.
Ideal central location Wifi connection unstable during the evening, appeared to be 'switched off' after 8
Christy was a very pleasant person to coop with. She helped us were she could. OK you have to walk some steps to get to your room. So what all of Edinburgh is going up and down. The breakfast was early for young people (8:00 - 9:00).After a night in the pub is it difficult to get there on time.
The effeciency and friendliness of all the staff... they were extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome. The location is superb. The stairs... but then again it did provide us with some exercise :)
stayed at castleview Guest House with my Mum in November 2010. the guest house is in a great locaton, central to everything. Great pubs and restaurants locally. Only problem is there are 70 steps from the front door to the reception, so not suitable for the older person or persons with reduced mobility. Breakfast good. staff friendly, room nice and clean. Would stay again but dont think Mum could manage all those stairs again....,. There really was nothing that i would say i didnt like about my stay except for the number of steps up to the rooms and perhaps breakfast is a little early. Breakfast room closed at 9am.. No lie in here..
The hotel is situated ina beautiful part of the new town in Edinburgh,it is a lovely old building and has been recently refurbished with each bedroom a differnt theme. I was in the single room 6 flights up! the room had freeview tv,washbasin and a seperate private bathroom. The decor is tasteful and modern. The fact there is no lift, not so good having to climb 6 flights, that is a downside also breakfast is an hour slot between 8 & 9 which for me is too short and too early.
Room was nice Staff were not very welcoming and room was not even made up.
Excellent location, really simple but very modern interior. Breakfast was especially nice as everything was cooked fresh. Non that spring to mind
great location, excellent hotel staff, really big and comfortable room, good breakfast
A pleasant stay at the hotel. The decoration is very modern and update. The Bathroom in particular has a nice bath
a lovely modern guest house in a great location, our room was spotlessly clean and very warm. The only thing that would improve the stay was that Sunday breakfast could have been a just little bit later say between 9 and 9.30am
The staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was very good. The room was attractive and comfortable. No bad points
The hotel is very convienient for all local attractions,it was clean and warm and a very good price, rooms were decorated in a modern style . the doors in hotel are heavy fire doors and if not held until closed they slammed every time someone went through one. Our room was at basement level and had drainage problems in shower and water only drained slowly.
The building is lovely and very nicely decorated. The room was small but very comfortable with better than average appliances and fantastic water pressure in the shower! Breakfast was good with a large menu. The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was a little too warm, but the radiator could be adjusted so it wasn't a huge problem. The wood flooring, although nice looking, was noisy especially when other guests were moving around very early in the morning.
very friendly owners, excellent menu in the evening for a very good price (well only apple or orange juice as a drink) as well as the scottish breakfast. Location Noisy fitnesscentre in the early hours on friday in the back of room 12
Location is very convenient
Fantastic service. Warm, friendly staff. Great breakfast. Perfectly located for a tour of Edinburgh. Excellent. Not a thing. Great hotel.
easy access to city, quiet comfortable room. no fresh fruit at breakfast!
The hotel is very centrally located. There is no ironing facilities in bedrooms, with a central ironing roon located on the 2nd floor.
Good location Far too expensive for what you got for your money - holiday Inn Express is supposed to be cheap but £135 per night is not cheap
Very central, ideal for theatre goers, immediately opposite the Playhouse. Contentinal breakfast very good. Bed very comfortable.
The location is perfect, near to shops and restaurants. The staff of the hotel is very helpfull and friendly.
The rooms were clean and comfortable. It has everything you need for a short stay. Flat screen TV. Nothing
very handy for the Edinbrough play house close to the center for shopping very clean all the drinks vending machines on all floors were empty on arrivel when told reception all thay could say there was no refill exspected even with new year. we were told we could get soft drinks at the bar but were more expensive.
The location near city centre, the affordability and ease of check in and check out.
Very clean and excellent location none
Got a good deal on Kayak. The internet is GREAT, which makes me happy because internet seems to be an ongoing drama all over Europe. Welcome to the 21st century Europe, crawl out of your castles and get online. Breakfast was fine, had some whiskey in the bar as a nightcap. Location was great, fun to walk around the area.
Central location. Great for buses to different parts of town.
We showed up a day early and they accomodated us
Outstanding service, the elder guest house staff will do anything to make you comfortable, and welcome. The breakfasts were outstanding, and the 30 second walk to the tram is just another reason to stay here. My adult son and I loved it. I would return any time and will recommend to anyone. There was no negatives.
The staff were very pleasant, breakfast good and room very clean. good value for money We did need wi-fi connection for a business call and found connection difficult. We had to sit on the stairs to get a connection
Excellent hotel, central location with an excellent breakfast. Good value for money. None
Had a very pleasant stay. Although right next to Bus Station it was very quiet. Nice comfortable room. Staff were very nice. Wonderful breakfast. Would highly recommend.
The staff were just lovely, harry couldnt have done more for us, tea & toast in our rooms every morning!
Nice showers and cleaned toilets. Good equiped kitchen for make by yourself dinner. Internet and wi-fi ( pay ). Customers and staff very educated, no noisy, very close to the central bus stop for the airport. Room too small for 4 beds and frozing. No chair,no bed lights, no lockers free, Matrass absolutly no-comfortable: only metals and not insulated with wool or cotton. Orrible sleeping. Why not to buy poliuretan matrass? Economic and easy to clean or change. Breakfast just with bread + margarin + marmelade, coffe/tea and some fruits. Too poor.
Really well recieved, the staff were brilliant, friendly and helpful. Constantly suggesting good local places to go. The rooms were clean and the facilities were excellent. The only issue was the heat, the rooms were uncomfortably warm especially at night. But that was the only problem.
Late checkout on a Sunday afternoon ( we had a late flight.) Good breakfast variety, though no hot food. Great staff, friendly and efficient, no weird attitudes. great location, everything walkable. Easy tram connection to/from airport. No wash clothes/flannels in a good hotel??? No eggs or porridge at breakfast.
Beautiful hotel, friendly staff and tasty breakfast. The location is great, very close to the city center, trains & buses, but in a quiet street. Nice restaurants and bars are just around the corner.
I would highly recommend this hotel for a weekend break. Staff very friendly and helpful, great location, and would go again
The hotel is situated in the city centre, with good range of bars/pubs and restaurants around, and 3 minutes walk from clubs/cinemas, 5-10 minutes walk from Princes Street! It's not easy to find a free parking space.
there is separate heater to plug in, which is nice.tv has built-in dvd player. tv is a bit small
beds was comfortable and rooms were warm . very little we liked about hotel, some members of staff very rude, lack of cutlery/delph on tables had to share one knife between four for breakfast very little communication between staff and guests, ceiling in bedroom leaking
Could not fault it. Great area, lovely welcoming hotel, welcoming staff, and great breakfasts.
The close proximity to all the restaurants and bars, also it is ideally situated within easy walking distance to Princes street. Will definately return. We felt we were very well looked after and the staff were very helpfull.
clean and staff helpful steep stairs
Hotel is in a good location. The buffet breakfast of cold meat and cheese is nothing special but for the price you pay it is reasonable. The rooms are a fair size and although a bit in need of a lick of paint are not bad. I think the owner demanding £5 to keep luggage in an empty space is excessive and spoils guests impressions of the hotel. Up to that point I would have gone back but not so sure now.
