Returning the car was great - the rep was very helpful. And the car worked well. However, when picking up the car, we were hit with an unexpected 10 euro per day charge since I was providing my own insurance. At no point was this charged identified or explained during my booking on Kayak. This doubled the price of the rental. The rep when we picked up the car said the charge was mandatory. STAY AWAY!!Cons:The absolute worst customer service. I would spent the money renting with another rental car company. They were cheaper at the beginning, but at the end they charged me €165 for a 1” “scratch” on the wheel. I was not the only one. At the time of return 3 other customers were complaining about getting charged for bogus “Damage” that comes from normal wear and tear of driving through Ireland roads. Some were getting charged up to €350. When asked to speak with a manager about the issue, I was denied and told that the “customer service representative” could help me. Obviously they did nothing. This place will try to scam you out of every last dollar! Since they are part of the Hertz name and all employees at Shannon airport worked under Hertz, do yourself a favor and stay away from Hertz and their underling names of Thrifty and Dollar.Reviewed 3 Jun 2018

Hidden costsPros:I liked the Jetta for size, handling, comfort as I drive VW/Audi cars at home. The drop off and pickup was at Shannon Airport which was very easy and quick. Sales agent was friendly and expeditious.Cons:The Dollar/Thrifty rental was connected with Hertz - which I did not know at the time and will not rent from Hertz due to a bad experience previously. Once at the counter, I found some "hidden" costs and an"upgrade" charge for an automatic that cost significantly more than a base rental for a standard and that were not listed on the rental information I had secured in advance - more than doubling the price. Buyer needs to beware about what the exact costs you are paying for since a good price that I found in advance became costly once at the rental counter and should have meant that I looked elsewhere. Since it was so early and after a long flight, I did not pursue other options in the airport.Reviewed 7 Nov 2016
