Website says Alamo closes at 11 PM on Sunday. All flights into San Jose were delayed Sunday night, June 9. No options were listed for car pickup on your website. After a wait while the agent checked somethings, he told me to go to Enterprise, and the Alamo contract would be honored. And that is what happened. Might be helpful to put something on your website about your brother/sister agencies!

The car was clean and the price was very fair. However, see below...

Cons:

I rented a certain class for not only the luxury comfort, but for the size. However, Dollar did not have the car I rented. They first tried to down grade me to a lower class, but larger car. I did not think this was fair so I did not agree. We went through the options and I explained, due to having two of my elder uncles with me and their need for a larger car, I needed something larger. Eventually a larger car was offered, but at a much higher rate. Again, I did not agree as a car in my category should have been available to me. Eventually I was offered another luxury vehicle (supposedly in the same class), but much smaller and the entire weekend we had difficulty getting my uncles in and out of it. Due to the inability to have a car ready for me in the class I rented I would have preferred the “upgrade” to an adequate car but the agent would not agree without additional payment to which I did not think was fair.

The clerk was very friendly, personable and attentive. But, as he was claiming the vehicle we agreed upon, someone else in the system claimed before he could. Instead of telling me this, he assigned me a different car we didn't discuss. We were heading to a graduation, & I didn't have time to go downstairs and get a different car. I had my elderly parents with me, & the car we got was uncomfortable. We were not happy, & the right thing to do is to train your people to be honest with clients, and do your best to meet their needs.

Car rental was fine. Don't use affirm to pay as sixt requires you to use the card you paid with for a deposit upon pickup and was not able to process it so I had to use my own debit card and now I'm trying to dispute the charge with affirm since I paid out of my own pocket

The worst rental car experience ever! I travel to San Jose once a month and rely heavily on the car rental service industry for transportation. I made reservations, arrived for my pick-up and then nightmare began! They required a $500 deposit for the sedan with a $174.94 rental fee for the day. Last month Alamo's security deposit was $200 and have the rental price. I return the vehicle after my trip, board my flight and return home here to Los Angeles. I then see an unauthorized transaction for $100 that very night, and another $100 the following evening. Trying to reach Thrifty is a nightmare in itself since its system is automated and they DID NOT even return my detailed email of the issue. I had to call my bank and file a claim on the two extra charges and cancel my debit card!!! This entire experience with "thrifty" has been the worst. WILL NOT BE DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN.

Cons:

The hood of the car open but there was no indication of it on the car. Found out when it started moving on the freeway. This put my life in danger. Staff should have made sure that the hood was close and the car should have warned the driver that the hood is open.

The staff were very friendly at pick up and drop off and the car was clean. It had a few scratches, but nothing too bad. Fuel economy was better than expected.

Cons:

The price was significantly better than other companies for the same type of car and it would have rated a higher score on value for money if it were not for the fact that the car needed some TLC. The engine sounded rough under load (like it was knocking), it needed oil (which I added) and the convertible top had trouble locking properly when it was lowered. I noticed later that the key had a sticker on it that said "check engine", but it seems that was not done.

picking up the vehicle at san jose airport took more than 20 minutes. There was only on attendant and there were no cars in the class I had booked. Ended up driving a pickup truck instead of a compact car. Gas cost was an issue. Upon arriving at the one way drop off location, I ended up in the parking lot of a shopping mall with no directions as to where to drop the car. Spent another 20 minutes on the phone being shuttled through the same two automated phone systems over and over again, Finally drove to vehicle to the local airport rental car return center. There I was advised there would be a $50 fee for dropping off at the wrong location. I asked the attendant for directions as to where to drop the car at the mall address that was given. Neither he or three other attendants were able to provide directions as to where and how to drop the vehicle at the designated location. After some discussion with the manager they agreed to drop the $50 fee and accept the vehicle at that location. When I received the final invoice there was nearly $45 in additional service fees that were not indicated on the initial rental contract.. Thoroughly disappointed with the entire rental service. Will NEVER rent from budget again. Please pass this along to Budget as well. Dissatisfied Customer....

We had a wonderful experience with National! I had heard about bad stories with rental car agencies but I couldn't be happier with our whole experience. We rented a Suburban type SUV and got an Expedition Max. This was an awesome SUV big enough to haul all our stuff and seat 8 people. We got it clean and it was just the most comfortable, roomy SUV I have ever been in. I brought it back very dirty after 11 days on the road and they checked it in in minutes and I was off on my way. Highly recommend National!

We rented for a month an SUV in order to go from CA to FL. The internal electrical stopped working on our way there. When I called to alert the problem in California, they told me to go to the nearest airport enterprise location in FL. Here, their first answer was that I should take it to a Firestone store to get it checked. I called the nearest Firestone and they told me they couldn't touch the car being so new and low milage; it was the dealership's problem. I called enterprise again and they told me to take it to the nearest dealership. At the dealership they told me that they can't service a car brought in by the customer. With enough frustration built, and the original San Jose office shinning by their absence, I demanded a simple swap of the car but they made me call 4 different enterprise locations in FL looking for an SUV replacement. An assistant manager in Daytona finally managed to put us in a minivan, but all of this took 20 calls and 3 days of painful dodging by their representatives. I will definitely be dodging their service in their future. Not recommend.

1. Someone picking up the phone (called two open locations, no answer, one said to leave a message). 2. Being given instructions for one-way drop off at airport at time of rental or at least posted in rental car drop off lot. I had to call Enterprise to find out what to do once I parked the car as there was no attendant (Medford, OR). 3. Receiving revised receipt. There "special" car was a huge, double-cab pick up truck. Basically, no trunk and this was an airport pick up. So, I upgraded to a Toyota Corolla. When I dropped off the car, I was told a receipt would automatically be emailed to me but I never received and had to contact customer report for a copy.

Drop off was a nightmare. I dropped it off at another location as the original reservation was, but I was not registered in the system when I picked up the car. The manager and staff did not know what to do and couldn’t assist me. They could not get a hold of the original airport I rented from to finish my registration so they could close my account. I had to call enterprise customer service personally standing in the enterprise office to speak to customer service to help. I spent nearly 2 hours there just trying to drop off my car. Staff and manager were not helpful and did not apologize once.

The car was great and clean, no issues there. See above for why I am rating a poorly.

When we arrived at Oakland Airport to drop off the car, one of the workers saw that we were traveling with a toddler, a car seat and a lot of luggage. To save us the trouble of having to unload everything, carry it and wait for the shuttle, he drove us directly to the airport terminal in our rental car, and then returned the car for us. While this is not normally part of his job, he went above and beyond to help us. This made our day and was a great start to our Christmas holiday.

The website took me to San Jose, California when I asked for San Jose, Costa Rica without adequate warning that it changed the location. For that reason, my booking was incorrect. It was extremely difficult to cancel the reservation because none of the numbers worked from San Jose, Costa Rica. When I finally connected to somebody, she was able to cancel the reservation and reversed the charges. She booked another car for me in San Jose, Costa Rica and sent me a guaranteed price. When I went to pick up the car, this guaranteed price jumped up by $400!! This is totally unacceptable. I won't be using Hertz for any future car rentals.

It was the worst experience I have ever had with renting a car. I did not request an electric vehicle but ended up with one without any instructions on how electric vehicles work or how to recharge if you have to. The care was not charged all the way so it could not even make it to my destination which was only 3 1/2 hour trip. It took me a total of 9 hours to get home due to having to find a charging station and having to sit for a couple hours in the blazing Sun while it charge only enough to make it home!!!! Do not rent an electric car if you have never used one in the past. It was an absolute terrible experience 😢😢😢 and I lost out on a paying job since it took me 5.5 extra wasted hours of my time.

My main issue is the customer service for pick-up was poor and I was overcharged. I couldn’t find the rental counter and tried to call them. No answer and this was during supposed business hours. After reaching the counter I was pressured to pre-pay for the electric charge (I had a Tesla). I declined and as I exited the garage I was asked again and I declined again. The car was fine during the rental. When I returned the vehicle I returned it with more charge than I received it with. At drop-off I was told they’d email me my receipt (I had a flight to catch). And sure enough the pre-pay was on the bill. Very disappointed that they added in charges I declined numerous times.

Pros:

Staff was excellent at pick up and drop off

Cons:

Had difficulty finding the actual registration desk. Confusing multiple floors/signing. Didn’t know Payless was also Avis.

Pros:

The staff was helpful. When I picked up the car, it had a half tank of gas. They told me to return it with the same amount, which I did. But when I got there, they charged me for the remainder for a full tank. I went to the desk and the agent there and guy who checked it out a few days before to me were very helpful and corrected it (refunded the difference).

Clean car, employees at counter very polite

Cons:

For starters I thought I was renting car with kayak not with other party that I never heard of it. On paper it says I got car at 5:36 but reality was that car was no ready and got it at 5:59p not a problem understandable even if it delay me am put me to more traffic time but for them is not ok for us to turn late, I got there at 8;07p and seems I was charge another. My point is we don’t get discount for pick up late but get fully charged for being late “very fair”

Cons:

The signs at the airport were poor. Luckily a security guard arrived and directed me to the 4th floor. I rented from Payless, a sign at their counter directed me to Budget and, in the end I got the car keys from Avis. Car was small, as ordered, so the comfort wasn't excellent, but as expected. The onboard computer and controls, in the Nissan Versa, are hard to understand and reset. I never trusted the distance-to-empty indicator/estimate and when driving almost 2,000 miles that is important. Had two cellphones connected, one for calls and one for audio. The incoming calls always kept going to voice mail after pausing the audio. Overall excellent, but quirky. Recommend

very little to like. had to wait nearly an hour for a reserved car to become available. initial interaction with staff extremely frustrating (don't know when one will become available)...had to talk with a manager who, in fairness, was apologetic. added fees and taxes added 50% to the rate quoted by Kayak (Kayak's fault to not disclose?). Avis then tried to overcharge upon return; had to call them to correct. Will avoid renting through Kayak and Avis in the future.

The pick up experience was terrible. I am a preferred member but I still had to wait 30 minutes for the car to come. It was unacceptable so they then had to find another vehicle for me.

Rented a large van, which was great. Got a brand new vehicle with less than 50 miles and it did great. Check in took a long time. Seemed to have too few people for the reservations, although there were also a few people in line who seemed confused on what they needed. So may have been walkouts that Avis was not expecting. Return area was not staffed early in the evening, so had to go by the rental counter. Thankfully, there was no line that time.

The car was showing oil pressure low. First added one jug of oil, msg disappeared, after 25km again started showing same msg, then added another jug. Again within 10km, it was showing msg until dropped off. So I spent USD26 extra, this need to refund for me

Very long wait for pickup at LAX, slow moving queue at FOX, and ended up with a large Jeep SUV (Terrible to drive), after ordering midsized SUV. Final annoyance was that I was charged $150 when quoted $105. Tried to ring to dispute the charges but no answer.
