Free breakfast and internet. Really huge room. Well located. Good price. Access to a full kitchen. Mattress too soft. Couch not so comfy (and stinked a little). Breakfast sandwich not really good (but there's a lot more than that to eat for breakfast).
This was a roomy one bedroom apartment with accommodations for additional people to sleep in the living room (on the pullout sofa bed). The kitchen and sofa were a bit dated but convenient.
We expected a hotel room, but we got a small apartment with a full kitchen, dining room, and living room. The amenities have been updated and were quite adequate. It is an older building and the hallways and elevators are dated, but don't let that fool you, the room was very nice. I especially liked that they had very large screen TVs in the living room and bedroom on regular Rogers Cable, not the crappy Hotel system that won't let you watch regular TV in HD. Breakfast was excellent with a large variety of options and EXCELLENT coffee. They didn't mention it, but there is a second room for breakfast across the hall on the other side of the elevators if the main dining room is crowded. Easy walking distance to Parliament Hill, Rideau Canal, and the ByWard Market The elevators are small, slow and cramped. Six people max per car. Having to pay extra for parking, but it seems to be the norm in Ottawa.
Very nice place for breakfast along with excellent food. Rooms are very spacious; I had kitchen, two dining tables, a separate living room with two nice sofa beds and another separate room for the queen bed along with two 46 inch TV's. Awesome staff people. Remote control for the TV's are a bit complicated but I got them to work. There's a busy bar right across the street which can be noisy during weekends.
Beautiful hotel; comfortable room; excellent location. Will definitely return.
The location and history of this hotel left nothing to be desired. Luxurious hotel with friendly staff They charge you for everything - They wanted me to pay .$50 a minute for the business center! If you come to this hotel and need to do work, bring your own laptop and be prepared to pay for the internet.
Toured both museums, Went to ByWard market, hiked , watched changing of the guard, shopped, ate well.
Quality everything - un beatable location having to pay for internet
Classic beautiful Hotel. Friendly Staff, especially the health club receptionist, who was great! Too old. Need refurbishing. Stained carpets, cracked ceilings, too many extension cords. Position of coffee maker hard to get to which makes making that morning cup a great hassle. Toilet we had in our bathroom was so close to the wall and door is in the way.
Great location right in the heart of Downtown Ottawa, really close to a lot of the sites. Staff is informed and professional, and the facilities (especially the pool) are world class. Loved it here.
Magnificent hotel and piece of Canadian history. Tremendous building Although an extremely expensive proposition, rooms/some older pieces within them need to be restored or refreshed. A little old looking.
Comfortable clean room. Friendly, helpful staff at Registration desk. Good ,prompt room food service. Friendly ,considerate room cleaning services.Clean air. Comfortable room temperature. Excellent food and service in both eating areas. Absolutely nothing. Beyond expectations.
awesome! clean and friendly. perfect location.
Pay extra for deluxe corner room. Worth it.
During my five night stay, every single staff member we encountered was extremely friendly and polite, and unbelievably helpful. I've never been to any business, hotel or otherwise, where the staff have been so good. The room had beautiful wall to wall and floor to ceiling windows. It was always very quiet. The AC worked like a charm, which was great bevause it was 30 degrees outside most days we were there. The gym and pool were nice. On Canada Day the hotel let all the guests onto the top floors, which have a 360 degree view of the city, so we could watch the fireworks. Not many complaints. There was no microwave in the room and the ice machine was located on the floor below mine. It wasn't as close to the downtown action as some of the other hotels, but it wasn't too far out of the way either.
The staff were friendly, the location was perfect, breakfast was amazing. We will return!
This hotel is like staying at home. The staff is friendly and very able to handle our two official languages. They go out of their way to accommodate your needs. Bravo! The hot breakfast could use some work.
The location is just perfect next to all the pubs, stores, resturants with patios, the parliament buildings etc. It is a clean hotel, staff is helpful. The hotel is a basic type of hotel nothing fancy or luxuries. If that is what you are looking for then it is okay. The indoor parking is very small and if you get there late at night you will not have a spot and you have to leave your car with your keys so they can move it once someone leaves.
That it had a small frig and a microwave, which allowed me to use the room as a mini-apartment The fact that the 'wake-up' system did not work. I missed breakfast three times and was late for an important meeting. (Sorry if this counts as a 'complaint' - but it may be useful for staff to check the phones on a regular basis.
We liked the closeness to the By Ward market and the parliment buildings.
The location was very convenient to the office I was visiting and to local restaurants. The area had quite a few homeless people, that did approach you when walking to and from the hotel.
Location, Breakfast, Close to Public Parking, Service Rooms a bit small, Small TV
the location, the reception
Location and price Parking garage is very tight.
Right next to the Byward market, nice view on the market and even Parlaiment Hill from the balcony. Nice room, helpful staff. Breakfast included was a plus, although the quality of the breakfast wasn't fabulous one can certainly manage with it. Warm breakfast (eggs, bacon, potatoes) available for 5 dollars extra. Microwave oven and reasonably sized refrigerator in the room can be useful.
The room and view overlooking courtyard. And the balconybreakfast Breakfast - croissants were stale, eggs old
Very accomodating and welcoming. Great location. Comfortable rooms. Mine had two twin beds with a kitchenette. Stones throw from everything in Byward Market. Parking was $15/day as on-street has 2-hour meters.
Excellent buffet breakfast that claimed to have the best bread in the city. They did! Modern rooms with very comfortable beds and perfect pillows. Parking lot is very confusing and you can easily scratch your car unless very careful. It is multi-level and the hotel entrance is down 3 and to the back right. It took me 3-stays to figure this out. Gym is small but gets the job done. Get an upper floor until the renovations are completed. It will be beautiful but is noisy at the moment.
the hotel is in the centre, just a few minutes walk from the bayview quarter and the shopping centre of ottawa. We had room at the inside - very quiet - downtown of Ottawa! Very large choice of breakfast in a nice restaurant. We only could open the window a little bit.
staff were friendly. the room was clean. Wifi worked fine. there was renovation going on and lobby floor is confused but the room was quiet.
The staff were all extremely nice and quick to help. The room was really clean and comfortable. The shower head was cracked. We advised the reception desk, but nothing was done about it. There was also only one elevator functioning almost every morning of our stay, which made it a very long wait to get to the lobby.
the clean up job daily is very good they are renovating...
friendly staff, nice room , good location
The room was very spacious, with all the amenites I would have wanted. Would like to try the restaurant on my next stay. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Could not figure out how to get the mini-fridge turned on, but by the time I realized there was one, was sort of too late to come in handy. Oh yes, and the charge for in-room movie was outrageous, almost $16.00.
Good service. Clean bathroom. Lobby under renovation. I made a duplicate booking and the refund process was slow and passive, and up till now I am still not sure if the refund has materialized or not. There was a fire alarm in the middle of the night during our stay, but the handling of of the emergency situation was OK and not chaotic.
quietness of the hotel booking process was bad - wedding rate promised was taken away, requested a smoking room but did not get one.
facilities are pretty new; good location - close to Parliment Hill, restaurants and highways
It was okay.. I expected it to look a bit newer than it was.
They oversold the rooms. They did not have a room for me I had to sleep on a cot in a conference room!
An excellent welcome, and room explanation etc. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Food excellent and good value. Not having beauty treatments available in situ-i.e. facials.
Excellent bed, excellent location. It is walking distance to everything. Staff are very friendly and provide excellent service!
Staff, location Kids running around hote,l screaming well after 1100pm ,older hotel, needs updated.
I had an amazing view on the 2 most historic sites in Ottawa, the parliament and the chateau laurier...that alone was worth the cost It is an average hotel and rather expensive, if I had a room facing the backyard it would have been very disapointing. No free internet which is really bad
We had an excellent experience at the Westin Ottawa. Our room was on the 21st floor overlooking the Parliament buildings - it couldn't have been better. The room was spacious and well-designed. We would definitely return here.
Not only was the lobby staff friendly and engaging, they were extra attentive. The room with the Parliament view was fantastic and no details were overlooked -- linens, towels, cleanliness. Could not have done better for reasonable price or for greater cost.
The comfort very good
central position the filthy scum that surrounded the swimming and jakuzzi pools
We loved everything!!! it was right in the center of everything, so walking was perfect. there was nothing we didn't like.
Helpful staff, clean room, very comfortable, good location but a little hard to reach due to current construction. Close to Byward market, which we loved for browsing, shopping and eating. Concierge was extremely helpful with directions for getting to and around Montreal, our next stop.
Parking was expensive and it a long time to get the car. The Internet stopped before we checked out. Bathrooms could be better and are a little dirty. The blinds in the bathroom were very dirty. Bathroom should also have more towels.
I liked the location and the decor of the lobby. Most of the staff are very friendly and professional. The food in the restaurant was great and well worth the price. My tv in the room did not work (no sound on the tv) It eventually got fixed, but took some time staring at the walls in the mean time. The pillows were very thin and cheap, I would highly recommend buying somm good quality pillows that are firm so guests would get a better sleep. At night I had little bites all over me, so I am not sure if I was allergic to the mattress or the laundry detergent they use. The parking service is extremely expensive and it takes a long time for the parking attendants to move all of the cars underground to get to yours, so that is not a very modern or efficient system.
Great location to walk to all Ottawa locations! Location, location, location!
location, cleanliness, location room was drafty
The convenient location is the only redeeming thing about this hotel. For years I have wanted to stay at this hotel -- I finally had the opportunity and was sorrly disappointed by the way I was spoken to and treated by front desk staff. I asked reasonable questions and said please and thank you and was treated with "...yes but you booked this on-line". As if to say I was not worthy of decent service because I booked my room on-line at the last minute." My room was not as described when I booked and I would suggest the Hotel Management double check what On-Line Travel Services are offering on behalf of their hotel - so that people are not mis-lead and then asking your snobby Front Desk staff about what was promised and then not offered. I would have to say the price for a room is definitely not worth it. Rooms are dated and smaller than reviews and photos. The Lord Elgin did not live up to any of my expectations -- the Front Desk staff could do with better customer service training. However, BellMen/Valet staff and Housekeeping were delightful.
Excellent location for visit to Ottawa. Can walk to many places and others are close by. Short walk to Parliament buildings, Sparks street, Rideau canal, Byward Market, Bytown Museum. Staff friendly and attentive. Elegant hotel with spacious comfortable rooms. There was nothing I didn't like.
The location and helpfulness of staff will keep bringing us back to the Lord Elgin There is nothing to dislike. The hotel features first rate amenities within a fine old hotel that is maintained impeccably.
Very close to the canal for winter skating
Pay for parking
Loved the location. There's nothing to dislike.
Centrally located! Friendly! Helpful! Comfortable!!! Good rates! Finally installed safes for the room!! Bar and restaurant could have been open later with entertainment? Relax in Lounge after night out!!
The staff were very quick and efficient in both the check-in and check-out process. The elevators were dated and were slow.
Bus stop right out front across the street, easy to get to anywhere in the city, we were able to walk to a couple museums as well as the canal for winterlude activities. We only stayed for one night and had a very jammed packed weekend so really only checked in, left came back to sleep then checked out when we woke up in the morning. They have underground paid parking across the street but it is a free service on the weekend so that was a plus! ceiling paint was cracking, bathroom very small and outdated, as well as some apparent damages to the door (chipping paint etc). Whole floor smelled strongly of cleaning supplies (harsh not nice) and also the air was so dry we both woke up with very sore throats.
In an age where preserving our environment is important, they kept replacing soap bars that were used once. On a side note, don't ask to settle your bill the night before for an early departure. Every excuse under the planet.
Good location - convenient to bus stop When asked for assistance with getting a bottle of water because I was too sick to get out of bed - I was told to drink out of the tap. Also a confectioners bar was requested but all I was offered was to go to a vending machine.
Room tatty tv didn't work moved room after much confusion would not stay again
I did not hear any noise from my neighbors. I slept really well. During my checkin, the staff was somehow indifferent to me. But during the checkout, another staff at that time was very nice to me.
Location and price Conditions
I loved being only a couple blocks from Parliament, numerous restaurants and cafes. When I arrived, they gave me the wrong room (I booked a basic room and they gave me a room with a kitchenette). When they realized they'd upgraded me and I was staying three nights, they immediately downgraded me. I had already unpacked a little, had to repack, return to the lobby (at 2 am), and get a second room. Room number 2 had a king size bed that I wish I could post pictures of. The mattress was literally V shaped, as though an elephant had slept in the middle prior to my visit. Further, it didn't have a fitted sheet - just a flat sheet that barely covered the top, exposing an offer looking, striped mattress, ew. I eventually complained and was given a third, nicer room. So, I packed my things a second time, and went up and down returning/exchanging keys. I'd note that the woman working the morning I complained was absolutely terrible. I showed her the pictures I'd taken of the bed, which I'll eventually post on yelp, and she merely played dumb. I was not happy with the comfort or service at this hotel.
Great location and parking Its a bit old now. Rooms are out dated and smell like grandmothers house. Bathroom from the 80's and water pressure like an asthmatic smoker blowing water at you through a straw. For $200 a night you expect more.
Location, staff were nice It is dated and could upgrades. Carpet was not the cleanest, but overall I would say it is just ok.
Friendly staff, excellent bedrooms, goof overall quality
Great location and the 2 been suite was the perfect size for us and the price we paid. Service was great. It was very busy but that showed the quality of the hotel, people were there for everything: family, sports teams, young friends. We were treated well and had a good stay! Some of our cups had lipstick stains on them and the hottub (part of the reason we decided on the hotel) was out of order but that's about it.
My family and I stayed at Les Suites for nine days and I loved that the suite was equipped with everything and there was lots of storage!!!!!! I could wash and dry our clothes, cook a meal when I felt like or bring home left overs and heat it up! The rooms are very spacious and were always clean and fresh, and the staff were very discreet, not invading your privacy. They were also very courteous when you met them in the hallways and elevators. The location of the hotel is ideal, walking distance to the mall and downtown Ottawa. I felt comfortable and at home. I would definitely be staying at Les Suites on my next visit to Canada.
Les Suites is wonderful if you have young children. The bedroom suite allows you to put your children to bed and adults can continue to enjoy their evening. The fully equipped kitchen is fantastic, children can have their regular breakfast etc. which helps with routine. Very close to market, shopping and tourist attractions. This is our second stay at the hotel and have been very pleased both visits. Parking is a challenge. Very limited parking spots and if you drive a van or larger vehicle, may available spots are too small.
The front desk staff were friendly, courteous and helpful also with info about surrounding points of interest. Great overflow parking solution.
It's location is perfect to access shopping and tourist attractions. Parking is a plus in this downtown location. Pool, workout area was quite small.
They had over booked, so we didn't get the premium sweet that we had paid for. They made an error when checking us in giving us a room that was already occupied, adding a good 30 minutes to our wait to get into a room. Usually you can chalk that up to a good story, but we had an ice cream cake that melted while we waited. We had hoped to use that time to decorate the room for a surprise party.
space and facilities, plus convenience to city centre
We went to the byward market and to the parliament buildings and walked along the canal. We also walked Sparks Street, shopped in the Rideau Center. Everything we did was within walking distance from the hotel. The staff were helpful. We were on the 22 floor, had amazing views.
2 bathrooms, convenience of the kitchen, fitness room and pool, taxi available The dish washer did not do a very good job cleaning the dishes (room 1509)
on top of the events
I liked the closeness to the attractions and to the market area.Having cooking facilities is a definite asset for extended stays The pet policy of this hotel where only the premium rooms are pet free is detremental to my staying there again. With alergies and not knowing beforehand the pets may have been in the room could cause serious health risks to you custtomers,
The hotel was close to shopping, Restaurants and easy walking to the house of commons and other sight seeing attractions
The staff was amazing and friendly and helpful! Also...great rooms! n/a
Good location in downtown Ottawa. Very large, comfortable suite. (Much bigger than I needed - suitable for long stays.) Door to suite stuck most of the time; always took several tries to open. No breakfast at hotel.
I have stayed at Albert at bay a couple times and enjoyed each stay. Never any problems. Staff is very helpful and courteous. Hotel is within walking distance of down town. I really love the kitchen and spacious spaces. This is a great hotel for families staying for a few days to see the city because you can offset the price of the room by having some meals, snacks etc in your room with the well equipped kitchen. Nothing.
It said "Suite." I thought, "sure." But it was a REAL SUITE. A fully equipped kitchen. An ample dining table. A living room with with sofa and TV. A huge room with two Queen sized beds. AMAZINGLY comfortable. The bathroom wasn't cleaned to my liking. I sensed a trace of urine smell. But I have a very discerning nose.
Spacious apartment like room
Sure, we could have stayed at the Sheraton in Centretown (in fact, we have previously), but for basically the same price, we got a real suite: two bathrooms, a large dining/sitting area, kitchen, and balcony. Now, we didn't really need all of those amenities, but it was nice to sprawl out on the couch to watch TV and munch on leftovers from Good Eats (a great little restaurant down the street), rather than sit on our bed like we would at a regular hotel. The rooms were clean. The setting was quiet, even though we were still on the edge of Centretown. And the fitness center was quite good. If you like warm cookies or mood music in your lobby, then you might be disappointed. Otherwise, this is a very good hotel option to compare against the other downtown chain hotels, and a terrific option if you are considering an extended stay.
It was spacious!!! Great value!!! One question that wasn't clear. The charge for the hotel is not at the time of booking but made by the hotel .... correct?
Convenient to downtown attractions and restaurants. trying to find a place to park the car before checking in.
There is No place to park in front of the hotel legally b/c the cabs take the spots. I forgot my razor and had one sent to the room. It was quite possibly to WORST razor ever made! My face was so badly cut it was terrible that a hotel would send this to a customer. This is two days later and I am still bleeding. A cheap disposable Bic razor would have served the purpose instead of this plastic with a dull blade. I should have expected more.
Location, staff knowledge, design, spa/pool area All good
Clean, comfortable room. Friendly staff. Wall paper behind bed was ugly! Shower needed a railing or something to hold on to....too easy to slip and fall.
the underground parking was too low for us to use
Everything. The Sheraton has well-designed, comfortable rooms. The staff were really helpful. We had access to the internet in the foyer area - something that is not readily available in other hotels (we don't use wi-fi). The hotel's cafe/restaurant were open for meals fairly late in the evening for late arrivals. The breakfast in the dining room had a wide range of choices. We didn't use the pool but it looked nice. It would be hard to fault this hotel - we had a wonderful visit.
Great place, steps from parliament buildings.Great staff, very helpful in everyway. No
The location of the hotel great and really in the middle of downtown. Being an spg platinum member has its perks as you get access to free breakfast, a printer and newspapers in the platinum lounge which is really nice and cozy. Location being downtown and with all the construction work it was noisy early in the morning and late at night. The fitness and pool facilities are great but it is certainly missing a sauna and hot tub. Parking had to be valet and was 24$per day. That was very expensive and a huge upset that no free parking option was available.
The housekeeping service was excellent. i needed extra shampoo, and they lady was kind enough to give me some. Plus, I lost an earring in the room, and housekeeping found it for me and is mailing it to me.
I loved the location. Very short walk to everything. They did not have the two beds which i had booked.
Liked the spaciousness of the room. Found the beds, pillows and duvets very relaxing & comfortable. The cost of valet parking. Was not aware of the astronmical fee. If it was clearly indicated, we would have made alternative arrangements for parking.
Efficient and pleasant staff.. spotless room and great bedding. Paying for use of the internet.
Two rooms were confirmed for late check-in, one guest arrived after mid-night and her room had been given away
Well organized during check-in, good location, very comfortable beds, friendly staff Well unfortunately we were kept awake from 12:00 am until 5:10 am due to some very rowdy, rude guests on the 5th floor. When I called reception at 4:00 am, apologies were given and I was offered a choice to move to a different floor, by then however it was too late. We received a free breakfast but when we went to the restaurant I felt we were looked upon differently..........
Aside from the very friendly and knowlegable staff, I loved the pillows! The bed was comfortable, there was lots of room to move around, the bathroom was well appointed and everything was very clean. All in all, it's a great hotel. No, there's nothing I didn't like but I'd love to see hand held showers (in the bath obviously). This is a small point, wishful thinking and it does not diminish my opinion and appreciation at all.
The suite was attractive, spacious, clean & very well equipped. The continental breakfast was excellent! The staff were very courteous and helpful.
This hotel as part of the Best Wstern group, offered all the services, as you would expect. The buffet breakfast was very good and we found it ideal for our trip to Ottawa with the main historical sites within an easy walking distance strange to say this but we found the room too warm, even with the heating off and the window open
Good service, Prompt taxi service. Continental breakfast was very welcome. No
That the hotel was near many museums, parks, and downtown. Nothing at all.
not noisy, good to have a kitchenette, great place to study the cofee mugs in the clean tray were stained ( not clean, more than a couple ) in the complementary breakfast area
Very nice and well appointed room. Hotel was well kept and the staff were friendly. I requested a room on a higher floor. That was completely overlooked when getting our room on the 2nd floor that a window looking into an interior dead space with no light. The buffet breakfast was more on a continental breakfast with bagels and coffee. Not of any real value.
The hotel was central, and the staff were very polite and helpful
We have already enjoyed many visits to this hotel, and will stay with them again, but likely book direct so we get free parking! Our reservation was not handled properly by the hotel staff, which left us with a standard queen room instead of a queen suite. I would confirm with the hotel the next time!
Clean, quiet and very comfortable.
The rooms were extremely spacious, great breakfast in the morning. Waffle maker, bagels, cereal, hot food and more. All staff were extremely welcoming and even remembered me by name. A little out of town, but near a bus route which took us straight into Otttawa. It was a shame the hotel was going through some renovations at the time, so no pool. However they did offer transport to a nearby pool.
I liked the size of the room, it was a king size with sofabed. The bathroom was large also. I couldn't hear any traffic off the busy Riverside Drive. Parking was also included and that made a difference to me. A breakfast was also provide and it was a step up from just a continental breakfast. There was a lot of choice and there was warm food. The door and walls to the hallway were a little thin, I was able to hear people arguing in the hallway.
Excellent location, close to railway station and Highway. Large, comfortable room for an excellent price. Indoor parking location was awkward to reach and poorly signed
I liked the large room. The pool was closed for renovations and I did not know this at the time of booking. We were looking forward to swimming.
Nice clean big rooms with full stacked kitchen. Clean washrooms and overall very pleasant experience. Parking is a bit cumbersome and needs improvement. Lot gets pretty full at night and has to share parking with other hotel.
Great value for the price. Friendly staff and nice rooms. Perfect for a solo traveler. Excellent location right by Parliament. None of the dining options were very affordable, and breakfast is not included.
A little dated...forgot shampoo in room, cleaning staff were socializing when I got to room..forgot to replace many items in room.
its location and style expensive parking
Staff pleasant; everyone clearly trying hard Room service took a long time and what I had was marginal quality-wise; unlit alarm clock; old TV
The bed was firm and comfortable. The limitation in variety of food at the restaurant.
Great location. Loved the turn down service and the bottled water in the rooms. Slow elevator. Small rooms; made you feel like you get what you pay for. Left charger in room, had to ask three times at front desk to get a response. Twice thwy promised to call and never did and finally when I wated in the lobby for an answer, it was like they were clueless on my first two requests, and had to start explaining all over again.
The staff are very nice and helpful Some rooms are small (not all)
The design in the room. The comfy bed. The location The staff could not speak French. The room was obviously cleaned too fast the bed was poorly made and the bathroom was a bit dirty. There was a lot of dust on the furniture. There was no terrasse and no pool. There was no recycle bin in the room. The strong chemical perfume in the lobby.
Staff were very friendly. Room was clean and comfortable.
Glass of wine in the evening was nice. Lack of curtain or window screen. Only a blackout shade was available so either your window was open for two very close buildings to peer into or your room was dark. Also the hotel was a little worn and the carpet needed a shampoo.
I liked the Hotel, loved that there were glasses and not plastic cups in the room and bathroom
The design and the atmosphere. Everything was fine. This is my 4th time at the same hotel, won't change it.
