Welcoming, warm staff (with special mention to Vivianna); the rooms and particularly the comfort of the bed and the amazing shower; the plentiful, delicious breakfast each morning; and the phenomenal rooftop pool. The common areas are serene and beautiful, and the hotel is centrally located within the walled city. The concierge staff, while very responsive and helpful in advance of the trip, dropped the ball in following thru on all reservations and we missed out on a day trip to the Rosario Islands. The mishap was apparently due to a miscommunication with a former hotel employee. The hotel ended up treating us to a very nice city tour, but we were disappointed to have missed out on the island excursion. This was avoidable (hotel staff confirmed the itinerary just days before the trip); however, things worked out relatively satisfactorily in the end, and the hotel staff was very apologetic.
Beautiful boutique luxury hotel. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Great location in Cartagena. Amazing roof top pool! Some of the amenities could use some updating (i.e. wood floors, gym, etc.)
I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this hotel. You have all the amenities you could want from a top grade hotel, paired with a friendly/warm staff who make it feel more like a boutique hotel. The restaurant on the first floor (Harry Sasson) was also great. I will definitely stay here again when I return to Cartagena!
We liked everything about the Ananda Hotel, the concierge was most helpful with restaurants and getting around. We took the advice of others that had stayed there and had dinner at the Hotel, it was excellent and good value. Breakfast was included and was again excellent. Nothing not to like.
The location is good Hotel charged us $300 dollars upon checkout for VAT & city taxes even though we booked and paid through KAYAK!! No bill was given!! No gym, no buffet breakfast, mediocre service simple room, simple shower, nothing special except the location. Won't recommend this hotel. Go for Helton or intercontinental.
The good: Very nice staff. Beautiful indoor pool and charming architecture. Comfortable beds. You cannot beat the location. The bad: On our first night they put us in a terrible room (#105.) DO NOT ACCEPT THIS ROOM. ASK TO SEE YOUR ROOM BEFORE ACCEPTING. The room was dark, noisy, with a tiny window and a bathroom that was not air conditioned and had a window opening to the street that could not be closed! Again, be careful with the rooms because some are terrible. In the end, however, after staying in a decent room for several nights but which began to smell of sewage we were moved to a lovely room. The other issue is that the menu doesn't change and, after several days of the same selections we wanted variety. Overall, if you get the right room, it's an excellent hotel with very nice staff.
The hotel is beautiful. The staff is always willing to help to make sure your stay is unforgettable. The restaurant ALMA, located in the hotel, is one of the best restaurants in Cartagena. If you are going to spend time in the hotel and are with someone special, this is the place to stay. Unlike the bigger luxury hotels in Cartagena, this hotel offers a more personal/intimate service since there are only about 30 rooms! One of my favorite parts was the coconut treats that the staff leaves in your room every night, which are made in the hotel. I liked them so much, i bought a dozen to bring back with me! There were very few down sides to our stay, but there was some pressure cleaning of the pool area being done at night until 2am, which was a bit load/disturbing. Also, there are some parts of the hotel that you have to be quite in since some guests complain about everything (the roof sun deck is one of those areas)!
The hotel staff is very nice, they were very helpful, they can assist booking day trips to the islands or anywhere else you need to take a day tour to get to. The rooms are no frills, just a bed, desk, and TV, but they are very clean. The maid cleans the floors, makes the bed, and brings fresh towels every day. The rooms each have an air conditioner, which is essential in the heat of Cartagena. It sounds strange that there isn't hot water in the shower, but it's normal in northern Colombia. It is so hot out that you wouldn't want a hot shower, and the water isn't freezing cold, more like room temperature, so don't be surprised if it's your first visit. There is a filtered water cooler on every floor, so you don't need to buy bottled water. The hotel provides a buffet breakfast every morning, fresh fruit, arepas, eggs, juice, coffee, etc., it's enough to get you going in the morning. The price is right, very reasonable rates for a conveniently located, friendly hotel. The hotel is just a couple blocks from the walled old city and also a couple blocks from the pretty areas of Getsemaní. The breakfast room is not air conditioned, there are lots of fans but no air conditioning, nor anywhere else on the first floor or any of the hallways. The hallways are looking a bit shabby and so is the exterior, the hotel is currently undergoing renovations, including to some rooms, so I imagine it will look fresher once they have finished.
The hotel is well situated between the Historic Center and Getsemani. Although the rooms and public spaces were clean, they are falling apart. I do not appreciate bring treated like a criminal by hotel staff. One is a nuisance to everyone. I'm sorry I decided to stay at your hotel and get in your way. If you are lucky, you will get water from the shower or the sink at certain times of day. Guests are not welcome past the front gate so avoid meeting anyone in town. Stay at a hostel for less money, better service and a friendly atmosphere.
Pool area is fun sunning or splashing but it is large with nice views and well maintained. Rooms were good ours at the front had a lot of light. In the back not so much but in a hot climate not a problem. Common areas were fun. Every thing was clean and worked. It is a small hotel and for the price you can not expect perfect breakfasts or fast checkin. Staff spoke english if imperfectly.
The location was convenient, and the hotel was cute. The bed itself was the weakest point of the hotel. The slats in the bed frame collapsed several times, and there weren't blankets.
hotel is centrally located and in the middle of everything. cute and really pretty. pool. nice breakfast with made to order eggs. excellent AC. nothing. the stream of the shower was a little inconsistent, but if that is the worse thing i can think of...
Nice hotel. quite expensive but this is the norm in cartagena. staff is great.
