The location and welcomig atmosphere. Easy to reach everywhere.
outstanding food at the restaurant
Location, view from room and very service minded staff.
Perfect location, great duvet cover & bed No mirror in bedroom
Nice room in great location. Simple, elegant hotel. Would definitely stay again.
The friendly front desk staff + the view of city/harbor from the room. No on-site parking. Free parking in nearby lot from 6 p.m to 10:00 am...I had to get up and move the car to an area about four blocks away for the rest of the day...otherwise pay about $ 1. per hour to park.
They served breakfast was from 7-10am, which was great for us late risers...also the food was great with lots of choices. The hotel was in a great location for walking downtown to eat/shop. The staff was very helpful. Our room was nice with a beautiful 4th floor view of the city. The restaurant was closed for a month for renovations. It would have been nice to know this, but it was not on the hotel's website.
Extremely helpful staff; great room and food
Very central and for Reykjavik excellently value. Breakfast and locale
Very near centre of city.
Very good, though quite expensive meal
Excellent Location - very nice and helpful staff
centrally situated, nice rooms the rooms giving on the main street, Laugavekur, are extremely noisy, especially on friday and saturday night. the breakfast is boring and a bit dull.
We loved the apartment in the new building where we stayed the first night of the four we spent at the Hotel Fron. The room temperature was too high.
the staff was excellent! no traditional icelandic dishes at the restaurant of the hotel
Location and price. None.
One of the staff members at the desk was very helpful in planning our return trip to the airport. 1. Our first room was not even clean when we got there. 2. The room we ultimately stayed in looked junky and absolutely nothing like the rooms on the website when the room was booked. 3. Our room was not cleaned during our stay. 4. The insulation on the walls was non- existent. We could hear every cough, conversation and techno music song that was played in any of the rooms around us. 5. With one exception above, the staff at the desk were rude. 6. The lobby often smelled of smoke which was disgusting. 7. Neither the shower nor the sink drained properly so that taking a shower was more like taking a bath. 8. The bathroom fan didn't work.
nice room very poor breakfast, wlan didn´t work most of the time
We were upgraded on arrival to studio apartment which was a nice surprise .good location for town centre .good choices of restaurants nearby . Having to pay to park your car even though it belonged to the hotel . Very expensive for all the bars and restaurants .
The location. Breakfast.
The location was excellent. Also, the staff was very helpful during our stay.
Ease of check in, early check in, free breakfasts Some front desk staff were rude when asked for additional keys since the intercom in the apt was broken
Having travelled extensively around the world, it was a pleasure to be greeted by service minded, smiling, friendly staff. The hotel was relaxing and stressless. Maybe, a little more attention should be made to controlling the facilities inside the room. Ensure things are regularly maintained in the bathrooms with drips, leaks, and edges correctly sealed with silicon. Minor issue, but essential to retain the hotel profile
Location was good. Parking was listed but it was public parking. We had to drive around and parked a few blocks away.
The Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful in giving suggestions about places to visit, providing maps of the city, and arranging the shuttle to the airport. The Location is perfect, right in the centre of the city and close to shops, restaurants, the city lake, and sites. I think it's so unique that the hotel is above a Viking settlement (museum). I Loved this hotel! Although the breakfast is great, I do think it's a bit pricey per person (14 euros or $18 canadian).
The hotel is centrally located in Reykjavik and next door to some excellent restaurants. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable of the area.
Location in town. Ridiculous price for room that had no amenities. Paid five star price for two star motel. Room small, bed uncomfortable. Everything extra.
It was homely, comfortable room, nice surroundings, fantastic location, love the building on the corner of the centre of Reykjavik, close to the harbour and lots of great restaurants & cafes & museums. Steff were friendly, breakfast was nice. Breakfast was pricey especially when you could get a huge cooked breakfast and warm coffee down the road for less. tea and coffee facilitirs in the room were poor, there were 2 of us and they didn't have pairs of the same kind of tea bag, no milk, small cups, little sugar, we bought ours from the supermarket. Internet which we paid for kept stopping working but when we called it was fixed and when we mentioned it again at checkout it was deducted from our bill, so was ok in the end.
Outstanding staff. Very clean. Very central. Convenient bar and restaurant. Slow wifi.
Location! You can not beat the location of the Centrum. Also the front desk staff is awesome. They can book all of your excursions for you and if you would like dinner reservations, they can suggest where and then make the reservations for you. The hotel bar happy hour was excellent if you like beer and craft cocktails. The room size was a little small and there was no place for a second piece of large luggage. Also, even with the radiator in the off position, the room was extremely hot. We were forced to sleep with the windows open. The amount of noise coming from the street from cars and people at all hours of the night caused us not to get a good nights sleep in the 8 days that we were there. I wish I would have brought ear plugs.
It was clean, desk staff were pleasant The hotel had messed up the reservations. My reservation through Kayak was fine. However, a hotel block that was to be released 45 days before my arrival was still on the books (I was joining a hiking group) and they tried to get me to pay for that supposed reservation. In talking with the agency that had arranged the room block for this particular hiking group, this is not the first time that this hotel has done this. In addition, a friend of mine who had confirmed her reservation at Hotel Centrum before leaving the US, received an e-mail that they were overbooked and she had to go to another hotel---even though Hotel Centrum had double bookings and indeed did have rooms.
cafe and breakfast
Excellent location within walking distance to busy city center Great value for the money Friendly staff Prompt service from staff & housekeeping Nice little restaurant in the lobby For some reason the TV was messed up most of the time (would get frozen on certain channels and would have to get up and turn it off). However, was not in the room much, so this was not a big issue.
Close to old parts of town. In fact, hotel is built over museum for first settlement.
Somehow this isn't mentioned on their website or any reviews I've seen, but Hotel Alda gives each guest an android smartphone in lieu of a room phone. This phone works throughout Iceland, has reception on speed dial, and has all the other bells and whistles you'd expect of s smartphone: maps, activity guides, etc. A great and welcome surprise! Unfortunately for the hotel, but fortunately for Reykjavik generally, there is a bit of construction going on near the facilities. Not a big deal if you're getting up early to go on an adventure, but if you intend to sleep in do ask for a room on the other side of the hotel. This advice should be good through the end of summer 2015.
The hotel was great. From the atmosphere and decorations to the people working there. The front desk staff were amazing and friendly. They were always ready to help and had a smile on there faces everyday. We got a family sized room for two people just because I heard the rooms might be smaller. However the room was bigger than I expected including the bathroom. You hear that the shower doors fold to make more room. However even extended there is enough room for the other person to use the sink or get ready. The hotel gives you a cell phone with data included, which was honestly amazing. I made the phone into a wifi hotspot and was able to use my own cell phone throughout the trip. Just bring portable charger with you as the phone battery dies quickly this way. The hotel is also located on the main strip and perfect walking distance from restaurants and bars. But a few blocks down so you don't hear the noise of the bars at night. We never tried the breakfast downstairs as we always had say trips planned in the mornings. There is a bakery down the street that is open early I can't remember the name of it but the front desk told us about it. Big enough to sit down and have breakfast, but gets packed as well so give yourself enough time if you have morning plans. The room does come with a pot to make your own hot tea and instant coffee if you are in a rush. Hard to say what I did not like about the hotel. The only thing I can think of is that the room gets very warm and with no thermostat to control temperature. We opened the window everyday however it only opens a tiny crack and doesn't stay open on its own. Probably from the wind outside. Just bring light pajamas with you and you will be fine.
Location and view. Smal room, not much storage room.
Very nice hotel. Good location, nice rooms, very comfortable beds and pillows. Municipal parking is very close to the hotel. The restaurant is very expensive.
The room was large by European standards. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Great location. Would definitely stay here again.
The hotel has a brilliant central location right next to the parliament (which is actually so small that we almost missed it) and all the major nightlife and shopping areas. Also very close to the harbour. The rooms were lovely, warm and cosy - beds very comfy! We had a great stay at this hotel, and the reception staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was too expensive for what it was. One thing that we felt the hotel could improve on would be a spa area - perhaps a project for next time?
Great location. Quiet and close to everything. Room was adequate for my purposes and comfortable to sleep in. The staff was helpful and friendly. Will definitely come back.
Quiet, private. I arrived at 7am but paid for the night before because I needed to sleep. At 12 noon it here was a nock on the door and a moment later a phone call. They wanted me to check out even though I had a five day reservation . Actually should not of been charged for the first day because I didn't get what I paid for, sleep. The staff was always to busy on the computer to acknowledge guest unless you engaged them.
proximity to downtown and shopping; friendly staff; comfortable lobby; luggage storage room. It was unfortunate to not be able to get into our room earlier since it was requested at the time of the reservation and our flight arrived from the US at 6:30 am. Also, our room was lovely and spacious, but way too warm and we were unable to be comfortable without the windows open, and the noise from the bars on the street was so loud, we had difficulty sleeping. I'd suggest air conditioning or blankets that aren't so hot so that we could sleep!
Excellent restaurant There should be more sitting area(s)
The building was beautiful, and the rooms were very nice. Our television did not work most of the time. The hotel advertised a flat screen television. In as much as we certainly did not go to Iceland to watch tv, the television was also set up for viewing the bill on line, setting up a wakeup call, etc. It was also a problem because it was so noisy outside that we did not sleep. We usually would have just turned the television on to offset the street noice, but we did not have the option. This was a lot of money to pay without getting a good night's rest. It is actually the principle of paying so much for less than advertised than the actual television itself.
Very nice staff. Good location if you want to be in the City Centre. Not a good location for anyone who wants to get sleep on Friday or Saturday night in the summer, due to young people who party all night in the streets outside. Very noisy until about 5:30 a.m. But a good place for young people who want to be at the center of the action.
Clean rooms, nice decor Not best value for the money. Breakfast expensive
the location was second to none, city centre. very accomodating and friendly staff, a true credit to the warm and inviting icelandic style nothing
Staffs are very attentive to customers. refrigerator door key should stay unlocked once unlocked until locking again
good value and really close to everything you want to see the shower on the ground floor was borderline to hot.
location was wonderful, and easy to explane when you are lost because there was a pizza restaurant near by. Also, it was one block away from the famous church. Breakfast was wonderful. couldn't stop eating the bread they provided. it maybe difficult to use the restroom, since the building i stayed was a modified house, which had only one bathroom( just one) on the floor with three bed room.
Quiet location, but 10 min walk to everything. Breakfast buffet (hot) included. Absolutely best staff attentive, accommodating, engaging. Houses one of the finer restaurants in the city plus a nice bar downstairs. Tea and coffee and mini bar in the room. Would absolutely stay again. Single rooms on the top floor are drafty because of the balcony doors.
Very good location. The staf was friendly and the high speed internet connection was highly appreciated. Soundproofing needs to be improved, we could hear people talking in the room next to us, even though they were talking low.
Location was easy walking distance to many shops and restaurants. Staff was friendly and helpful. They say that they provide a hot breakfast, but I found that this really meant just buffet style eggs and bacon. Everything else was more of a continental breakfast style.
The art gallery and the food. The entire hotel is like a huge art gallery. The staff is very friendly and the kitchen excellent. I can recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to Reykjavik.
Very noisy from street traffic. This may turn me away from visiting again.
Friendly and helpful staff, good location. Two single beds used as a double, very uncomfortable.
Excellent Location, Great Service, Fabulous Restaurant. They even gave us a free upgrade as they were not too fully booked. The staff were very friendly and could help with anything. Certainly a great base from which to enjoy the City of Reykjavik or from which to take any of the multiple day tours on offer (which the staff were helpful and informed of to help organise). I will stay here again next time.
Helpful staff, good location. Room was quite small
The art. Wi-fi availability. Friendliness of the staff. Warm a touch of traditional and old fashion The rooms were just a little tired but nothing a make-over wouldn't fix. Could hear the traffic a little too much.
The young lady receptionist there helped me a lot re the confusion of tour operator about location of picking me up. Really appreciate it.
Very good staff, clean and comfortable, splurge restaurant. Arranged several details including transfers and day trips via the staff. Quick walk to old town in both directions - reflecting pool or Hallgrimskirka. Solid. Not cheap, rooms are not large, but that's not their fault.
hotel de charme .... we really enjoyed our stay there. everything was perfect!!!
stuff assistance. Very Kind and helpful nothing! everything was perfect
Close to everything Noise from the street at night
The location is great for city centre. The bathroom is terrible and small with a shower that floods the whole bathroom and the walls are very thin.
Great location that was very walkable to all areas of the city. Great lobby. Fantastic breakfast. Helpful staff. Nice view. Bathroom was older though clean was just a bit dingy only due to age.
Good location and a fair price Breakfast was poor, low quality food stuffs which is not what is normaly found in Iceland.
The staff was friendly and helpful and they are centrally located. The staff was friendly but not too sucessful at achieving some of my requests.
Good hotel, good location.
Breakfast was included and provided a nice selection, including fresh fruit. It was ready earlier than the official opening time of 7:00 AM, which meant that those of us who caught the 7:00 bus to the airport, were able to eat breakfast before our departure.
good location - close to town but not too noisy Room dirty - blood all down the underneath of basin in bathroom - yuk - complained and they cleaned it up but really not good.
friendly, efficient our room was very noisy- young people partying in the street
Good location, nice staff and rooms
The location cannot be beat. It was in was great for seeing the city. Very cheep. From the ikea towels to the small rooms to the smushy bed and the not working tv. Everything about it smelled of cheepness.
The room was decent sized and the location was terrific. It would have been helpful to have more information prior to check in, such as: how to check into your room upon arrival; the fact that there is a rooftop balcony (I had no idea while I was there that it was available); a heads up that the bar/restaurant at the property is closed and/or temporarily closed for renovation. While I appreciated the "quirkiness" of the design and overall aesthetic, the experience for guests could be much improved upon.
Excellent location, friendly and helpful staff, nice and comfortable rooms.
Clean nice rooms Staff told me our two rooms would be 120 euros each, then revised the price upwards during both of our two separate stays at the hotel - got the feeling they bumped up the normal price to match an inflated price I'd agreed to when booking on the internet
- Extremely friendly staff - Nice atmosphere - Good breakfast - Nice soft bed - Some of the rooms didn't have their own bathroom (but that was alright for me) - Some rooms are prone to have traffic noise (I had no problems with that though)
Flexibility in downgrading me to a cheaper room w/out decrease in the room price. Breakfast was not up to scratch. Also listening to a loud TV and two philipino maids having a loud discussion behind my back for the duration of my 15 min breakfast was not nice. The drunken lot in the bar in the afternoon made me take my drink into the room.
The location was great and had great views. The room was clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was included and was decent, not extravagant but certainly adequate. I got a room with a shared bathroom and there was still a sink in the room, which was very helpful. The shared bathroom was clean, but smelled pretty bad. I'm not sure if it was some sort of raw sewage situation or just that the water smelled very strongly of sulphur. It's entirely possible it wasn't the hotel's fault, just a fault of the city plumbing. It was bearable, but added a sense of "cheapness" to a place that was otherwise relatively nice for the money.
Awesome location on Reykjavik's main street while not close enough to be bothered by the nightly audio chaos. Room was rather small but had everything we needed at a reasonable price. Not super easy to find
Cheap price. No bath room in the room.
A little bit small, but relatively cheap, clean, convenient, and breakfast included.
central location including breakfast shared bathroom facilities were not clearly explained on website so disappointed. and had twin beds rather than a double when booked for a couple.
This hotel is wondeful. Don't be put of by dreary exterior and hallways - rooms are excellent for price. Ideal for centre of City - all within walking distance. Staff very friendly Breakfast good for Iceland hotel fare.
Clean , central , best of all , service excellent , staff very helpful Nothing
I was traveling alone and felt very safe here. All the tours picked me up and I felt comfortable walking around the area on my own. Also, the woman at the front desk was so nice and helpful and made several phone calls for me. I would definitely stay here again!
Nice rooms, comfortable beds.Very good location.Buffet breakfast good including Icelandic selections. Bathroom small and modernist rather than functional.
Lovely linens and light airy rooms. The fact the it is adjacent to a large construction site and this was not advertised. Hairs on the bed when I checked into my room. Poor value for money.
A great hotel, staff great, great location
24 hours reception, close to the center
Clean, good location, decent breakfast, good views from breakfast (from the 8th floor), parking nearby, looks very new and modern, managed to get an awesome deal making it very good value at 88eur per night for two (even compared to youth hostels if comparing overall service and location) Small room, no wardrobe, bad view to the back, no proper curtains, lots of slamming of doors from other guests, sold out for dinner at 10pm
Restaurant at top floor with views that make your breakfast memorable. Nice room. Free of charge parking.
The location is excellent Cleanliness in the rooms could be improved - when we arrived the sheets had not been changed in our bed + the toilet had not even been flushed !! Also the young man at the reception was quite rude when we checked in - he wanted me to pay the bill right away and when I said I would pay it when we leave the hotel he simply threw the room keys on the desk and wanted to check my credit card details.
Location near the city center. Transportation from the airport well organised. Nice view from the breakfast room. The window did not close properly, bringing important noise from the street.
Our room was kept quite clean. We also paid a 10 euro charge to use the spa area which was a very nice ammenity. There was very little room for unpacking clothing and storing luggage. However my wife and I were able to manage with the hanging rods and shelves provided (no dressers). The shower is a bit odd since there is no tub and just a swinging door, but after the first use we figured out how to minimize the wetness and made sure to shower with the door and window cracked to remove moisture more quickly. As others said, there is an issue with air circulation but we opened the window and were fine (we were there mid September). However this may not be a workable option during the winter. There was also construction which unfortunately blocked some of the panoramic views but was surprisingly quite and did not seem to interrupt our rest.
great location, quiet as can be but near everything in the centre-- lovely room with amazingly comfy bed, and terrific staff. Breakfast is great, as well! Terrific hotel! not applicable.
design hotel and great breakfast no
Atmosphere, people - nothing too much trouble, central location - overall great Disappointed that the suana wasnt working for all 3 days - one of the reasons I chose this hotel
Excellent location, great harbour view, very clean room and the bed was huge! Didn't try the restaurant but the bar service was good and the bar area was very nice and relaxing. Staff were very helpful and pleasant.
The staff were really helpful, very clean room and bar
Bed, showers, furniture No drawers, no dress closets
good staff, great location, nice appointrments, lovely atmosphere doors were tough to open and slammed shut, which can wake you in the small hours
