5.0 Okay
Pros: Not sure
Cons: Paying for car parking. No disabled parking near hotel. Had to climb stairs to reception Room not very clean Mild in bathroom To sum up, this was a very expensive budget hotel. Won't be using Holiday Inns again
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was excellent! It is located a little far from the city but that is not a problem at all because the tram station is just three minutes walking. It is really a very nice hotel!
9.0 Excellent
Cons: We booked two single bedrooms and we got two twin bedrooms.
6.0 Good
Pros: Staff
Cons: Very very far from what a 4* hotel should be... Beds very poor .. Woke up with back pain
7.9 Good
Pros: Good place for expo, i was there because of cancellation of my other hotel. I had make a mistake and booked after 12 for the same night so the charge me for a night extra. I call the helpdesk and they help me directly with no comments very helpful!!!
Cons: Nothing
1.0 Poor
Pros: We liked the breakfast thats it
Cons: Everything
7.0 Good
Pros: It was easy to walk to the tram stop. Tram takes you to city center within 15 minutes. It was easy to fold out and fold in the couch for a second bed. Staff was polite and helpful.
Cons: The window could not close completely so there was sound of cars from the highway coming in all night. There was some dark spots around the window frame (dirt or mold). Rod that is used to pull the curtain open/close was ripped from the curtain. It was difficult to find the way to access the hotel by car. One tiny sign for the hotel was located just before a split in the road near the Expo and it was easy to miss.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: It was comfortable and the location well suited for my business trip.
1.0 Poor
Pros: There was nothing to like. A total disappointment.
Cons: The bathroom was stinking. The AC is fixed at a particular temp and cannot be adjusted. The counter staff is rude. I cannot believe this is a four star property when there is no AC technician/ manager after 5pm or on weekends.
5.0 Okay

8.0 Excellent
Cons: Breakfast was expensive. Recommend breakfast at “Huize Colette” across the road.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great bar and restaurant Great location Good breakfast
Cons: Carpets and curtains tired. Lighting made room gloomy
7.0 Good
Pros: The location was fantastic - within walking distance to most sites. Staff at check-in and in the lounge were pleasant and answered questions about the area.
Cons: Carpet in the room was stained and looked dirty. Bugs in the tub and brown water came out of the shower upon initial use.
7.0 Good
Pros: Location is excellent! Everything is just minutes away. Breakfast was really good!
Cons: Room was cold and was hard to get warm. Also we could hear almost everything from our room. I think room needs a bit of refurbishment.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and staff
Cons: It was quite warm while we were there and the hotel's air conditioning wasn't operating properly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast
Cons: The carpet in the room was very worn
9.0 Excellent
Pros: very welcoming, great intructions as to how to find the hotel when driving into Ghent, a really comfotanle large modern room with a fabulously large and comfortable bed and a really good breakfast. The main thing about it ,of course, is the location - right by the Belfort and all of three minutes walk from the van Eyck Adoration of the Mystic Lamb. I love the way the hotel had gone to town on van Eyck (the reason we came to Ghent)
Cons: We were sorry to leave!
7.0 Good
Pros: The hotel is in the centre of the old town. Many of the best places to visit are close by, as is the market place. Rooms are comfortable and quiet. The Coronavirus outbreak forced the Government to close shops, bars restaurants and cafes. Ghent became a ghost town. I had to curtail my stay but the desk staff helped by printing off my travel tickets.
Cons: Many of the problems arouse as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak. The restaurant closed and there was no breakfasts.Despite there being only 50 in the hotel, the kitchen appeared to be overwhelmed, and servings of breakfast orders to the room was slow.
7.0 Good
Pros: Very comfortable bed. Amazing location.
Cons: The water in the shower drastically changes its temperature every 5 seconds. Very narrow bathtub. A lot of things look quite old. I expected more given the price.

Cons: Loved everything!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was lovely, although they had run out of granola! But other than that, it was great.
Cons: Just to mention - the breakfast was great, however the lunch we had was very disappointing. We ordered finger sandwiches which took a long time to come and when they did, they weren’t sandwiches, just tiny canapés and were very expensive!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Superb food in the restaurant provided by exceptionally pleasant and engaging staff. Excellent and wide ranging choice of breakfasts. All the staff were pleasant, polite, helpful and appeared to enjoy what they were doing thereby making our stay much more enjoyable. Your ethos is to be applauded.

8.2 Excellent
Pros: Helpful staff, and rotative good location
Cons: Hotel room getting old, would need refreshed soon
5.8 Okay
Pros: Ideally appointed; close to and within walking distance of the station Whilst the hotel is on a main road there was relatively little noise from traffic My room was appointed overlooking a side street and very quiet
Cons: My order request was for double bed; I was offered twin beds The room was basic and lacked the comforts one would expect from a notable hotel group. I have previously stayed at the NH Sablon Hotel in Brussels - a vast improvement compared to what I’d received on this occasion Breakfast of my last morning was lukewarm There were also a number of failings in my room, namely: a) Lack of complementary beverages b) Lack of choice in the TV channels - mostly news outlets c) The appointment of the water closet in the bathroom was a tight fit for the average person - very uncomfortable d) The light to the wall-mounted magnified mirror in the bathroom was not working
4.0 Okay
Pros: Location, quiet room, staff. Breakfast was OK.
Cons: Hotel needs refurbischment inside the rooms. Its VERY used. Its clean, but all the scratches and cracks gives you the fealing, its not. Beds have wheels, so if you push it, it starts to move.

7.0 Good
Pros: Comfortable bed.

6.2 Good
Pros: Location, good breakfast

6.0 Good
Pros: The room was clean and comfortable
Cons: Apparently the hotel has available parking spots but 2 days before traveling they informed us there is a restricted parking zone in ghent so we needed to register in advance to be able to enter the city center (in which the hotel is). The hotel should inform about the restrictions prior to make the booking.

Cons: We had a private 3 bed room. This was very tiny and hard to move around in. A last minute add on booked a bed in a 4 bed dorm. She slept on our floor as the room she was in was very noisy. Though the noise of other guests can not always be controlled by the hostel, there could be measure put in place to help minimise the noise as the building itself is very old and loud when walking past or opening and closing doors.

Pros: Wonderful room to stay and great breakfast.
7.0 Good
Pros: The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the breakfasts were good. Location was excellent.
Cons: The bed was too soft. The breakfast room was rather crowded when busy.
9.1 Excellent
Pros: The room was beautiful and very modern. Very quiet--the new part of the hotel is in a building about a block away from the original building and is set back from the street.
Cons: The 15:00 check in time is very strict and the place to leave your bags is out in the open and not very well supervised. Anyone could walk in from the street and take a bag, the front desk wasn't always staffed. This is tough on travelers relying on public transportation. Breakfast was quite expensive (€21 per person for a buffet) so we opted to find food on our own. Unfortunately, very little is open before 11:00, so finding your own breakfast is difficult.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was good, very comfortable, breakfast was good, the only fault I had was that the hairdryer didn’t work. This hotel is in a great location for everything in the city
Cons: The hairdryer didn’t work is my only complaint
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the hotel is in the centre of town so everything is within easy walking distance, the room was of a desend size with a comfortable bed, wifi and tv with a few british channels and a good choice of food at breakfast including make your own waffle's which was a nice touch
Cons: the only thing that was a bit of a let down at breakfast was the hot plate that kept the bacon and egg hot didn't, at best it was luke warm, which was a shame really because other than that everything else at breakfast was very good

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Room was very nice, extremely comfy bed&pillows. Bathroom was amazing, huge and nice. Breakfast was good. Staff was very-very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Weather :(
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We were visiting Gent (March 2020) to see the Jan Van Eyck exhibit at the MSK, and to visit friends. The Post's location is very central in Gent; so everything is really easy to get and find. Note - do not attempt to drive a car into central Gent as the centre is pedestrianized - Taxis and the Gent Tram will get you and your luggage easily to the Post. Breakfasts at the Post were phenomenal, and the breakfast staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The room we had - No. 9 - was very nice; however, we were surprised that the bathroom facilities (especially the toilet) was on a different floor from the bedroom.
Cons: The first set of stairs at the front and back of the Hotel made it really challenging to bring luggage to the hotel elevator. The lighting system in the room was a little bit quirky to use.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully restored historic building. Great taste.
Cons: If you’re arriving by your own car you cannot park near the hotel. It is located in the ancient city center where you can only drop off and pick up. The public car park is about a 5 min walk away. Taxis are no problem.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Las camas son muy comodas, y la habitacion muy linda.
Cons: Todo espectacular!
7.0 Good
Pros: Beautiful gothic styling, fabulous design, lots of little antique details. Great location in the middle of the city, easy walking distance to old part of town, sights, etc.
Cons: Attractive room but cramped sitting area with toilet on one floor, with bed and shower up steep stairs. Not ideal if you want to go to toilet in the night (and you have to go upstairs to wash after using toilet). We were guests at an extraordinary time (24h after announcement of coronavirus lockdown in Belgium). Senior management had clearly not thought at all about the impact on the tiny number of guests. All restaurants etc closed, and we had nowhere to go, nothing to see. Management could easily have given details/recommendations of takeaway services, or even approached one or two restaurants to arrange delivered food. Instead we had to wander round an unknown city on a cold evening, failing to find a meal. Only 7 out of 40 rooms occupied, but management would not let us sit in the bar area so we were effectively trapped in our rather cramped rooms. It would have made a huge difference (and not cost the hotel a penny) to have offered us larger rooms to stay in and entertain ourselves. The poor staff on duty were friendly and tried to be helpful, but senior management should think more about their guests' wellbeing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was delicious, a very good variety of pastries, bread, fruits to carry you for the day. , bed extra comfy, the decor of the rooms are impressive.
6.5 Good
Pros: location, interior, friendliness
Cons: airco not working properly tv channels missing even after intervention of very kind staff

Pros: Location was good, quiet and easy going to we could arrive and leave when we liked.
Cons: Nothing to really point out, couldn’t fault.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Can do attitude of the owner and the fact she drove me to my local business appointment as if it was the natural thing to do.

Pros: Immaculately presented property - spotlessly clean, great breakfast, beautiful setting and friendly owners. Highly recommend.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was delicious. The Host is an amazingly hospitable person and great conversation. Room was huge and beautiful. I was a bit surprised that the location was the suburbs, but the bus connection was ok. It will be my first pick if I need to travel to this region again. I'd, however, recommend it more to people with cars.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wow what can I say - the most amazing facilities and hosting - a hidden gem. The only thing I would say is that it's too cheap for what it is. From beginning to end, Anne was amazing. The suite was relaxing, super clean and had little finishing touches like mini perfume bottles, manicure kit, chocolates etc. The towels were thick and fluffy and there were slippers and bath robes. The breakfast was well laid out and Anne was very attentive. I WOULD VERY MUCH RECOMMEND YOU STAY HERE!!!
Cons: Absolutely nothing

9.2 Excellent
Pros: We had the Felix suite which was fantastic. Wonderful detail, like lavender bath salts and tampons in bathroom. Lovely blend between modern and old. Location is spectacular, bed is amazing. Breakfast was intimate and personal, like having with family. Will definitely return
Cons: Car was parked 10 minutes away - having said that - for Gent parking in always a challenge, so having any option was good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Beautifully decorated. Wonderful and very helpful hosts. Highly recommend!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The building itself is of great interest, both historically and in terms of the architecture in developing the B&B facilities. It has a great location. The facilities were comfortable and spacious. The hosts were most welcoming and the breakfast was a feast.

Pros: Everything!❤
Cons: -
10.0 Excellent
Pros: B&B Waterzooi was fantastic! If you are going to travel to Ghent, it would be difficult to find a better place to stay. The owners are very good hosts. They are knowledgeable and friendly people. They can help you on your journey through Ghent. You are within walking distance to everything, in medieval Ghent. You are within walking distance to most anything else you would like to see just outside of that. They offer a reasonably priced breakfast that is as good as any hotel. They can also help you with parking if you need it, for reasonable rates. The B&B has an elevator if you need it. You have private and secure entry, to the building. There is wifi, but I never used it. I was out seeing Ghent. They share a courtyard with the Ghent Tourist Office, where you can get your Ghent CityCard, good for free or reduced admission to most attractions, and it comes with free mass transit included. The Ghent CityCard also includes a free river boat tour, of your choosing. The two hour Ghent Walking Tour, the Tourist Office offered was about eight euro. There is an excellent steak house that shares the entryway area of B&B Waterzooi. The owners will tell you about it, and guests get some discounts. I stumbled into the B&B Waterzooi. I live and work in Belgium, at this time. I randomly decided to visit without much planning. They just happened to have an opening, as they are usually booked a few months in advance. Now I am spoiled. It would be difficult to stay anywhere else, in Ghent. Of course next time I will stay longer than two days. Thank you B&B Waterzooi!
Cons: There is nothing about the property itself that can be complained about. Don’t drive to B&B Waterzooi. Starting in January 2020 Ghent will enact a smog law that will limit older vehicles. Portions of Ghent’s center are already reserved for pedestrians. Come to Ghent by train. Drive to Ghent, and find paid parking outside the ring road. Then take a taxi. Don’t come to Ghent for a day or two expecting to see everything. Make your stay at B&B Waterzooi for at least three days plus travel days. That is my advice to you.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and lovely B&B in the historical building right in front of the castle. It is very convenient to reach by public transport (tram stop is right in front of the building), but most probably you will need to use public transport only to get to the train station, because all main Ghent landmarks and places of interest are in walking distance, the same with the restaurants and bars. Our room was at the top floor, with both elevator and stairs leading to it. It was perfect, with living room, separate toilet and bathroom and bedroom with the balcony at the first level and masters bedroom at the second level. There are quite steep stairs leading to masters bedroom, so please keep it in mind while travelling with children or elder people. Room is equipped with air condition, refrigerator, electric kettle, hairdryer and you may take an iron with ironing board. Hosts are awesome, they are very open and welcoming and Kay has incredible sense of humor.
Cons: It may be a little bit too hot at the second level (masters bedroom) when the weather is hot, as air-conditioning may not get there, but there is fan, which can also be used.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: We were in a spacious room (Delphine) which was beautifully furnished with a lovely big bathroom as well. It was at the front of the house but the street was quiet so there was no problem with noise. Breakfast was excellent and there was a good choice. It is close to a bus route into the central part of Gent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Christine was a wonderful host. The breakfast was amazing.
Cons: If you are a little squeamish you might find it odd having the bathroom separated from the kitchenette only by a curtain. But we were fine with it.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The owner went out of her way to make sure my little 11 month old girl & I were comfortable & happy. Brilliant place!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place in a carefully renovated house from the 30ies (the owner lives in the attached neighboring house). Very high quality equipment; extremely clean and carefully kept house and room. Excellent breakfast and friendly host.
Cons: There was a problem with the fire-escape emergency lamp in our room (room "Fanny"), which went on and off during the whole night. The host thanked us for mentioning it and told us she would have someone solve it ASAP. The sound insulation between the rooms was not very good (the house is old and the -beautiful- old wooden floor were kept).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: My one night stay was very pleasant and I enjoyed hearing about the history of the house from Christine, the proud owner of the property. I decided on breakfast, which was indeed excellent with plenty of choice.
Cons: The only point of contention was the owner's policy to levy a supplement for my double room for single occupancy. I discussed this with her before I left but she maintained her justification and necessity to do so.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was very comfortable. Like a small apartment and kitchen facilities also available.
Cons: We loved staying here. It was so comfortable and our room was like an apartment. There are also kitchen facilities and a garden to sit in. Breakfast was delicious - such a good variety and excellent value. It was also impeccably clean. The location was excellent too - not too far from the Railway Station and in a very peaceful lovely area with parks close by. There are regular trams into the city. Nice restaurants very close to the B& B. The history of the house and family are also fascinating too A very relaxing, enjoyable stay - thank you.

Pros: Amazing attentive host!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was outstanding. The location was superior, maybe the best in the city if you travel by train. The owner, Svan, was fantastic. I cannot wait to tell others about this hotel. On a scale of 10, it was an 11. The maid was the best I have ever experienced in all my travel days.
Cons: Don't even ask. Everything was outstanding.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Cosy and warm. Relaxing resting on the river. Coots came to the portal window. Nice breakfasts. Attentive host.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in the largest room. Our only regret was not staying longer. The room! The location! The breakfast! Captain Sven!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Sven was great - even scrambling up some awesome eggs for breakfast. He showed me a few nice walks through the city on a map brochure. It was fun staying in a houseboat - definitely a "bucket list" stay. The room was surprisingly large and I really enjoyed listening to the rain on the water just outside my "bolt hole" windows.
Cons: It's about 10 minutes walk outside of town, but I liked this because it was a quiet neighborhood.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: quite special to be on a boat. owner was cheerful
Cons: it is not a hotel where you want to stay very long, cause there are no real facilities, just a room basically.

5.0 Okay
Pros: Excellent Location. Otherwise an average Marriott.
Cons: From photo I thought it was a converted historic building; it's not. Service uneven; and overall I would rate it low given how expensive this particular Marriott was. I was underwhelmed by this stay. Restaurant nothing special.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location was great. Bed was very comfortable.
Cons: Two tier reception. Every customer should be valued equally. Poor supply of toiletries for a room occupied by a couple. Breakfast extortionate
5.0 Okay
Cons: Tea/coffee etc in room not replenished each day. Had to telephone to request this be done. No milk in room to have with ENGLISH BREAKFAST TEA - had to request. This is the only hotel we have ever come across that provides tea but no milk.

Pros: Great location , comfortable hotel .

Pros: Location is awesome! Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Room had no view. Elevators were very slow. It was a little hard to find via GPS.

Pros: Nice hotel, rooms was ok.
Cons: Music (bass) all night! Staff didn’t know what it was when I asked in the morning, next to thatcher air vent made an annoying whistling sound (and it wasn’t even turned on).
5.8 Okay
Pros: The room was clean and tidy but the views from window was terrible not what you want see on a holiday break .
Cons: Views and inside of hotel look and needs updating
7.1 Good
Pros: Friendly staff at reception.
Cons: Asking 40€/24h for a parking space in the underground garage seems a bit over the top. On arrival a 5:30pm room wasn’t ready, at first instance we would have to wait 1h but reception staff was doing it’s best to make it shorter and they succeeded.
7.0 Good
Pros: Excellent staff
Cons: Hotel needs updating. Chair in room was stained.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was fine but the cost of 30 euros each was way over the top.
Cons: The shower was luke warm, the noise from the ventilation was loud all night, even though I had turned the a/c off. Staff at check in could have registered my UK car for the LEZ easily, but told me I had to do it and this was not possible on a phone as the website for phones is not fit for purpose. It was only when I enquired about it at receiption the next morning was it able to be done in less than 2 mins on a PC screen.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was great, modern hotel in the historic district and close to everything.
Cons: A tad bit small but a very nice room.
7.0 Good
Cons: I did pay extra on top of price from booking .com and I was not aware I will Ned to pay as booking com did not leat me know ...?

Pros: The location is outstanding - the hotel is directly opposite St. Bavo's Cathedral and within easy walking distance of the main sites of interest in Ghent. Also adjacent to the tram lines - e.g. the tram from the railway station.
Cons: Nothng - an excellent stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Modern facilities. Good sized room
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The location with view on the cathedral is just great. Many monuments are walking distance, and if not, the tram or bus stops are very close. The rooms were what you expect at an Ibis hotel. Not large, but very functional and clean. The staff was really friendly and we enjoyed our stay. Thanks!
Cons: The breakfast could have been a little more varied.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: An absolutely superb budget option right in the centre of Ghent. Incredible location, and friendly staff. Impressive choice for anyone wanting to be close to the action and major attractions.
Cons: No complaints. Hartelijk bedankt! :)
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location for the old Town and cathedral etc. Enough space in the room to move around. Quiet
Cons: Liked the place a lot but it did not have enough shelf and cupboard space. It might be fine for those people who only stay for one or two nights. We stayed 4 nights so did need to unpack. Also, a couple of hangers or hooks just inside the door would have been very useful to hang coats etc, especially as ours were. Currently the only places to hang things are in the bathroom or in the wardrobe. Neither of these works well for outdoor clothing especially when wet. Also, no kettle! It would have been excellent to have had one. the IBIS Brussels Zuid where we stayed afterwards had a kettle which made quite a big difference.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location couldn't of been more convenient.
Cons: If i were slightly taller the toilet would of been inconveniently positioned.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and efficient and polite staff. Food looked good but didn't use the restaurant.
Cons: Parking charge at €25 was a bit steep! Underground parking a short walk away but the one way system is a nightmare to drive back to the hotel with the car. Nothing wrong with the hotel though.

Pros: This hotel was LOVELY. The location is excellent: right in the center of absolutely everything. We had plenty of room for our 3-year-old and 5-month-old. This is one of our all-time favorite places we have ever stayed in Europe.
Cons: What’s not to like!!!!

Pros: Great location, right in the middle of historical Gent. Close to tram that goes to business Centre in Gent Zuid. Great breakfast and dinner in the restaurant. Staff are friendly and helpful. Preferred hotel for my business trips in Gent.
Cons: Taxi service has to be pre-ordered for morning journeys, hotel could make this clear in reception area, so guests are not caught out.

Overview Reviews
A stay at Ghent River Hotel places you in the heart of Ghent, within a 10-minute walk of Gravensteen Castle and Kraanlei. Featured amenities include express check-in, complimentary newspapers in the lobby, and luggage storage.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was standard, had everything, nothing extra ordinary but ok
Cons: Nothing really
4.0 Okay
Cons: All was actually really good, until the cleaning lady loudly burst into our room in the morning (we were still asleep), without even knocking on the door. There wasn't a 'Do Not Disturb' sign anywhere in the room. Even though the people at the reception desk were very apologetic about this, I thought this was unacceptable and it painfully ended what could have been a nice Valentine's day weekend.
7.0 Good
Pros: The location of this hotel was good and staff very friendly
Cons: Beds are very firm found it hard to get a good sleep
5.0 Okay
Pros: Clean, good breakfast, good location.
Cons: Room was too hot, heating controls didn't work, left window open but it had little impact
4.8 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: I cannot recommend this hotel. Firstly, upon arriving at the hotel, I was ignored by the reception person. I waited at the front desk for nearly 5 minutes before I was acknowledged. The clerk was alone and on a phone call. He did not even look up from his position to acknowledge that I even existed. When he finally hung up, he was curt and cold to us as if I was bothering him. Granted, everyone has a bad day however he was representing the face of the hotel and it was bad. You don’t remember the hotel by its looks, You remember the hotel by its staff. Shame on you! Secondly, the rooms are not clean, Thirdly, the breakfast, although plentiful was at best mediocre. And lastly, the hotel has the cheapest rubber foam pillows. My neck ached. DON’T STAY HERE
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
9.0 Excellent
Pros: It's a very nice hotel. All the staff we encountered were helpful and friendly. I even booked to stay again later in the year.
Cons: Some of the breakfast buffet ran out well before the end of the service period.
7.4 Good
Pros: Nice location, comfortable, clean room and facilities. Good and generous breakfast although we missed it a couple days due to poor communication at the front desk.
Cons: We arrived in Ghent very late 11 PM. Reception desk was confused and sent us to the wrong room. It was occupied by naked people who were busy on the bed when we walked in. Amusing for us but very embarrassing for the hotel clerk. He compensated with free beer and apologies. In the excitement he forgot to tell us the breakfast area was located on the 3rd floor. We missed breakfast the first 2 mornings. Another minor irritation was the same dirty coffee cup was left in the room for 3 days, while the bed and everything else was cleaned up. Despite the small gaffes the staff were mostly friendly and helpful and the hotel was nice. We would stay here again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I can really recommend this rather small hotel, with very nice, spacious rooms with high ceilings, all amenities, incl. bathrobe, slippers and umbrella, luscious tasty breakfast and very friendly and helpful staff at the reception desk and behind the bar. Not a bargain but a preferred choice especially if you consider the location on walking distance from the city centre and most landmarks and some of the best restaurants (do not travel to Ghent while on a diet) and bars (some serving more than 250 brands of Belgium beer) in town and some of the must-visit museums.
3.0 Mediocre
Cons: The hotel has a major problem with its location. The little square in front has a late night club which broadcasts music into the public realm and allows people to stand outside talking in loud voices late into the night. One night this continued (preventing sleep) until 4.30; the next until 5. Apparently the police were called on the second night but did nothing and told the hotel to stop calling the police, which is in itself pretty staggering. If this is not sorted, rooms such as the one I was staying in are uninhabitable.
7.7 Good
Pros: Fantastic Breakfast in a pleasant room.
Cons: room was a bit cramped
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Cool rustic room in a hotel with more modern rooms too. Good sized bathroom. Nearby all the things I wanted to see but not on a main road so it was quiet.
Cons: My room as pretty cool but a bit dark.
