service oriented staff rooms are a little small.
The localization near the city center (you can go by foot). The excellent piece of architecture by Niemeyer. The pools (inside and outside) and the Spa. Breakfast is absolutely complete. Prices of bar/restaurants are reasonable. Could have parking car facilities nearby free of charge.
an amazing piece of architecture
Excellent hotel, very beautiful interior, perfect breakfast for various taste, large and comfortable rooms, warm hospitality of personnel
Spa break A little disappointed that we weren't warned of building works at the nearby casino which was directly opposite our room. These were rather noisey and disrupted the peace and quiet we had headed to Madeira for.
The room was comfortable and nicely decorated, the smily and friendly staff, location is a bonus, the pool area is beautiful and the other facilities in good condition and easy access. Amazing views and well looked after gardens. Internet Access prices - it's a 5 star hotel, sure they don't need to make a business also from something that in these days is so easy and cheap to get and free in most other hotels in Madeira. Not enough plugs in the room are in very difficult places.
The architecture is beautiful, the swimming pool and sunbathing area are extremely nice, the employees are extremely friendly etc.. Three minor points: 1. the cost of consumptions at the pool area is high (6 euro for a long drink). 2. the fact that you hear the noise of the upstair neighbours peeing in their toilet 3. The average age of the guests is high ! It looks like a retirement house (of course they can pay the price)
Very convenient to Funchal compared to most other top hotels. Alert and helpful reception and other staff. Infinity pool. Design features are interesting. Seating in breakfast restaurant looks good but is rather uncomfortable with poor back support.
The position of the hotel and the room the view was fantastic and the food was very good none
breafast some days very very windy the outside the swiming pool could not be used a kind of a wind protection would for sure help.
The receptionist Debora is absolutely fantastic. She has answers on every single question regarding hotel/ Madeira/ Porto Santo everything was perfect
View was nice, so was pool and breakfast. Really was the best choice for us. Easy on/off from #1 and #2 bus and the aerobus to airport (stop 18). Room has fridge and little kitchen. Staff was not the friendliest on check in and tried to "give an upgrade" to a bigger room with no view when we paid extra for a room with a view. Had to wait until almost 3 pm to get into room.
We had an excellent stay at the Golden Residence. The hotel and rooms are in very good condition, the staff is very nice and helpful (especially Hermes :-) ). The location is very good, near the seaside and the promenade on one side and next to the big street (Estrada Monumental) on the other side, with a very nice shopping on walking distance. The food of the restaurant is very good and we had a small but well equiped kitchen in our room. The indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna were well maintained and offered a nice break on cloudy days.
Right next to Poces do Gomes
very laid back hotel with good but not obtrusive service leaving
services, spa,restaraunt, and all,all,all no
The friendliness of the staff and the hotel's facilities
The room was beautifully decorated and was very comfortable.I really enjoyed being able to relax in different areas of the hotel.
Size and layout, location of room. Was turned away from restaurant for breakfast, very brusquely and without any assistance as to where I should go. When I asked another member of staff for directions, he pointed me back to the restaurant I had just been ejected from. There then followed an altercation in Portugese with me finally, and with a lack of good grace, being seated in what I late learned was the "VIP" restaurant. I was assured by the second member of staff that the package I had paid for entitled me to eat in that restaurant. I was somewhat surprised to find later that my partner, who breakfasted before me, had also been turned away from this restaurant and had eaten elsewhere. If you are going to be a 4\5 star hotel, then you should provide 4\5 star service.
Real 5 star approach without any pretentious attitude. Everyone very friendly and extremely helpful. A truly relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Will definitely return to this location and hotel. N/A
Great large room with a good ocean view. Used the pool and gym facilities every day. Good breakfasts. Drinks & Food at the Cliff Bay were expensive, however there are many good quality and cheaper places to eat and drink close by (try Frangos around the corner and have the piri piri chicken and tomato salad).
we had a very nice sea-view, and shall return. Nice indoor pool when the weather was not so good
The Location of the hotel near to good selection of restaurants. Near a bus stop. Feeling of space in all areas of hotel. Lovely bedroom and bathroom.
The staff very friendly and efficient
Very hard matresses and cushions in the beds.
Excellent views, clean spacious room (junior suite) None
location to centre of Funchal Facilities are getting in need of refruishment
excellent accomadation and food insects in the garden
Excellent location, comfortable, spacious room, very friendly and helpful staff.
We liked the overall atmosphere and good location for town. Also it was very quiet with friendly staff.
Comfortable, spacious room; excellent buffet breakfast, superb location for access to town and restaurants. family atmosphere
The quiet atmosphere allowed for excellent sleep. No busy roads nearby. Good buffet breakfast with plenty of choices.
Great ambience, a friendly, relaxing, unpretentious hotel with a good value restaurant and welcoming bar. The buffet breakfast offered an excellent choice of fruit, cereal, hot and cold food.
We liked the food and cleanliness of the hotel. The staff were excellent/ The size of the bathroom and the lighting was poor in the room. I use contact lensess and we like to read. The leaves in the Quinta pool.
location, breakfast, service, beautiful and stylish, nice city view stylish sometimes at the expense of practicalness (e.g. door handles and shower gel tube created to break your nails)
The visual excitment that awaits you at this amazing Designer Hotel in the heart of Funchal is only surpassed by the Excellent Managment and very attentive Staff - having stayed at other 5 star hotels in Maderia The Vine is definitly our favourite.
Perfect positon in funchal for site seeing, restaurants and shops never needed a taxi
Everything...The room was fabulous, big, confortable. It´s the state of the art. Very modern. On the first night there were some noises caused by the electrical system, but they upgrade us to a suite and only charge half for the first night. We love it and recomend it. Nothing.
superb design, heated roof pool, air conditioning not very effective
A free upgrade to a suite is always a good thing ;-) Staff at the Spa was exceptional! Hotelstaff at diner was less polite. For a 5 star hotel most of the staff doesn't go "one step further"
We had a wonderful suit with a fabulous sea view. Buffet breakfast had a huge choice. We opted for the half board option - great dinner, very good value, high quality of food Nothing
This is a new hotel and everything was fine, altough there were some facilities that were still closed (gym, spa).
This is an exceptional hotel which we booked at a great price. The room was spacious and had a nice view with a nice veranda. The staff were very friendly and helpful and quick with checking in and out. The rooms were clean but not what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. It is not in the centre of Funchal but in Lido which is about a 20-30min walk away but it is in the nicest area of Madeira with shops, restaraunts and buses close by into the centre of town. It is overall a fabulous hotel that if you get a chance to stay at when they offer these great rates you should absolutely take the opportunity to do so! Everything was almost perfect except for the cleanliness. It is a very clean hotel however the cleanliness is not as one would expect from a 5 star hotel!!
Excellent value for money, very clean rooms, very friendly and helpful receptionists, excellent location
comfort, good food, good staff, relaxed atmosphere. no.
It is a good hotel, the stuff from the reception is very kind and helpful. The view from outside pool is very nice. We didn't like the noise that came from outside. They said that it comes from a power generator which was located on that side of the hotel. It is not a good excuse for an 5* hotel especially because we had made the reservation with 6 months before. It's hard to belive that the room we've got was the best they could offer at that time. We had paid a partial see view room but we couldn't enjoy the view from the balcony because of the noise :( ...
it was so good I will return again no
A comfortable brand new hotel with excellent facilities and a varied and tasty buffet breakfast. Lots of restaurants nearby and other facilities (supermarkets, car hire, travel agents). Even the rooms without sea views have a fairly good view of the sea! It is a little further from the centre of Funchal than I had thought - however for €3 for 3 days you can get a bus pass and lots of buses pass close by the hotel.
An excellent hotel, but the holiday was spoiled by the aforementioned lack of spa and leisure facilities. The main reason why we chose this hotel, and not mentioned in your advert. See above.
Location. Room with ocean view. Food
poor pool service. poor lunch service had to go looking for staff for drink/food. Gala Dinners @ euro 240 each, I think not!
nice facilities, great breakfast, lovely staff food etc in hotel very expensive. Bottled water left in room as 'courtesy' was over 3 euros per bottle! Not possible to get food after 10pm.
Faciliies, gardens and pool area, breakfasts, staff helpfulness Quality of towels
The Pestana Grand Madiera is a beautifully appointed hotel in a lovely seaside location. The rooms and public spaces are to a very high standard. I found the staff to be a little unwelcoming.
The rooms were excellent with great shower and really comfortable beds. All of the reception rooms were comfortable and roomy, as was the main dining room. The outdoor areas were spacious but he sun-loungers not as comfortable as the balcony chairs. Wonderful pools though too cold to use in January! Once open, the spa facilities were terrific.
Great place for a luxury holiday; sea view rooms are best.
The hotel was exactly as described and also clean quiet and relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful and any difficulties were quickly sorted out.I would be happy to use this hotel again.Value for money was very good. A small suggestion is that the buffet evening meal was expensive if you had children with the charge at 25 Euros and half price for kids. There are too many excellent restaurants locally to make this viable. They should consider kids up to say 10 years eat free.
The suit junior. nothing, everything was perfect.
Good facilities, indoor pool, decent breakfast, comfortable suite, pretty reasonable value for money. A little too far from the town centre.
the good breakfast - the pool and gym facilities the shower temperature was difficult to control. The whole hotel rather looks in need of an major renovation.
Fantastic location - convenient for promenade, buses, restaurants, etc. Good sized rooms and wide range of facilities. Great pool area. Good choice at breakfast. There were too many extra charges that really should be included in the room rate, e.g. tea and coffee sachets in room, use of room safe, etc.
I really appreciated the spa services free of charge. The price vs. the quality of the internet connection was too high.
The location . To much noise from construction works on both sides of the hotel !!!
we felt that it did the not meet 5* standards that we usually find in such hotels
Hotel rooms were big and clean. Big hotel, loads of facilities Some of the staff were nice but some were quite rude. During 6 nights they never replaced the drinks in the mini-bar, which is quite weird.
Excellent service, good location value for money Very limited entertainment only piano and not every evening. Hotel was not fully occupied so may be beause of this but a whole floor with beautiful facilities not used at all.
The hotel staff was especially courteous and helpful (front desk, bar, etc). Very nice spa & pools. The bar and restaurant are also in line with what you would expect from a 5-star hotel (lovely dinner, and excellent breakfast buffet). Much more charming hotel than the neighboring huge complexes.
Excellent hotel catering for adults wanting to be pampered and relax in their top quality facilties. Staff extremely customer friendly; they are like a family and make guests feel part of that. Honestly can't think of any.
Fantastic hotel. Big, beautiful rooms. Close to center of Funchal. Very friendly staff. The morning coffee is unbelievably bad.
I liked the very helpful and friendly staff in the hotel. The service was excellent.
Very friendly and helpful reception, very polite staff. Room was very large and clean, the bed better than at home.Breakfast substantial and four course dinner better than we expected, enough variation. Bar and terrace elegant. The atmosphere relaxed. The view from our balcony could be a little better. Outside pool quite small. Service in restaurant some times too rapid - four course dinner in one hour!
Lovely staff. Friendly & helpful. Beautiful hotel & garden & new pools are great. No
Front of house staff are very friendly and professional. The spa was great - fab massage, but the outdoor and indoor pool were cold even though heated. Breakfast was ok, dinner was rushed and the goan specialities were far too hot [we have been to goa and nothing was that hot]. Room comfy and clean. Much better food and service at Da Forte restaurant in town.
Large room, quiet, friendly staff None
The service and staff were truly excellent. Great rooms and excellent breakfast
Very good five star hotel, the area is perfect, not so far from the center. The breakfast and the dinner should be improved. A luxus hotel deservs more.
The hotel was impeccably appointed and maintained. The views were breathtaking and the surrounding gardens were amazing. The restuarants were upscale but reasonably priced. Everything we needed-pools, bar, entertainment and restfulness were in place.
Large hotel with three swimming pools (two outside with sea water), good health center with all facilities (gym, jacuzzi, swimming pool and scotish shower) were free of charge; tennis, billiard also not extra charged. Location: beautiful ocean view and rocks, close to Funchal center, many restaurants nereby. Standard room is large enough. Breakfast could be better for 5 star hotel, served fruits are not that best, only pineapples were good; slow service for coffee and tea; only in the end of stay we found a chef who makes fresh cooked omelets and it was a tough luck to catch him and order for yourself. No ocean promenade nearby.
everything was excellent salt water in swiming pool
Compared to the volume of the hotel, the number of parking lots was too little. Very often we were forced to look for parking lots outside in Funchal - which is not really funny or easy. All of those had to be paid and the parking time very often was limited. So if you'd like to rent a car, it is advisable to rent cars via the hotel or rent them only daywise.
0verall facilitites were excellent A bit tired, lifts were very old and unreliable we were on 15 floor
Very close to city center, very close to port/ harbor if you want to take a cruise. Great views from our pool side balcony room, free Wifi and free intrenet in rooms where internet available. Very nice bathrooms with heated floor and towel holders. Many close good resturaunts and a supermarket right outside the hotel front doors. Every night at about 2am or so, they would turn off the central A/C, so it would only blow regular, not cool air into your room. By 4 am the room was hot and every night we would wake up and have to open the balcony door for cooler air. A little dissapointing for a 5 star hotel.
Very good location, just over the sea, the swiming pool area is very nice and the access to the sea makes the difference. Poor breakfast for a five star hotel
Location The services of this hotel are bad.The have young students working (gentle) but without no experience on hotels services. In my opinion at i dont want to say negative things simply, the hotel doesn't have a 5 stars service. Perhaps 4 and honestly poor.
very comfortable hotel i did not like the smoking on the balconies by other inconsiderate people even though the floor was allocated as non smoking.also had to keep ringing room service to replenish room facilities milk and tea
Great location, very efficient and professional reception and restaurant staff - our room was huge and had a sea view which we were not expecting! The hotel, room and pool areas were spotlessly clean and the evening buffets were good value. The pool area in particular was lovely - there were always sunloungers available and the view was great. Very, very minor points but it would have been good to have better lighting in the bedrooms for reading and a freshwater pool with lanes for more serious swimmers/for fitness. Also it would be good to make it easier to order food/snacks by the poolside (you had to go into the Ocean restaurant to order sandwiches which can be a little awkward when they are trying to serve lunch at the same time) The slightly lower mark for "value for money" was for the spa treatments which seemed to be a bit more expensive than other hotels.
Beautiful view on the ocean, 30 min walk from the city center My room was cleaned one day only after reminder (at 16-00), Spa (quality of treatment) could be improved. The light near a bed is not enough to read
You have to pay more attention for the cleanness. Linen wasn't changed every day. And the room was not vacuum cleaned every day.
Very client-oriented. Very clean hotel, good position, good food. Good, large pools, excellent ocean view. They offer good welcome for honeymooners (champagne & when available a free room upgrade)
The Swimming area and pools
Booked last minute. Was a great place to stay and did not need to leave the hotel due to superb facilities.
Lovely hotel in excellent location. Breakfasts were especially good. We had a great stay No
We got a nice room on the 9th floor with a stunning view of the ocean. Free parking. No free internet access is a big minus (it's free almost everywhere in Madeira!)! Also being located in Tower 2 we felt a bit like "2nd class guests" with no direct access to the breakfast room and reception.
service, comfort, gardens v beautiful.
friendlyness of the staff; rooms and garden nothing
The hotel has a English country house syle-particuarly in the original buildings. The staff are unobtrusive but efficient which contributes to a very peaceful and relaxing ambience. The gardens are extensive and well maintained. The two meals we had in the hotel restaurant were excellent.
The hotel has a big garden all in flowers. There is also a big clean swimming pull. I recommend this place to people who would like to have quite vacations in a nice surroundings.
we liked the location, the attitude of the staff, and the facilities which the hotel offers to its visitors the hotel's shuttle should be more frequent.
The garden is supreme, and the location of the hotel very good some 5 min away from central Funchal and still secluded.Good access from freeway to airport.
I thought the whole experience was superb
Beautiful Gardens, very good food and great staff. The facilities were also very good - we really enjoyed everything about our stay there.
Excellent hotel - staff wonderful - extensive gardens so peaceful and so beautiful. An ideal base for peace and relaxation in friendly atmosphere. Good 20 minute walk downhill to town, and inexpensive taxi ride back. We loved it and hope to go back.
Good position near town center The information in the reception about buslines etc. was very poor. Heavy noise from traffic and day-and-night-barking dogs at neighbours
The view was great to the Harbour. Was quiet noisy from cars, and the ambulance service near to the Hotel.
The hotel was very well situated (just 10 minute walk from the marina) and was excellent value for money. It was also very comfortable and clean. No negative points
Very clean and comfortable with impressive views. Unimaginative breakfast without any proper coffee.
Views of the hotels, Modern hotel. All the staff is well organised and friendly, yet discreet.
Just a very good hotel for the money It's a little awkward to find and actually get into with a car with the one way systems
Breakfast was very good SPA should be open later then 7pm
View. The hotel needs a complet refurbished. It´s being old.
Free breakfast was good with lots of variety. The room was clean. The decor was really good. Also, it was easy to spot the hotel driving because the design was different from the rest of the buildings in Funchal. Overall a great hotel. Free wifi worked well within the limited area of the lobby and pool deck. However, the constant need (every 30 minutes or so) to log-in with both username and password of "guest" on my portable device was frustrating at times, and, in my opinion, served very little purpose. But, it was free... so can't really complain too much, right?
Hotel with a beautiful view to the bay.Try local vines and liquers in the bar.Breakfast is also very good! No.
Having stayed at the Porto Mare hotel we consider this a holiday of complete relaxation and comfort. in my opinion the evening entertainment was not varied and caters more for the older generation and it is areal shame that the poolside bar closes at 6pm as it would be lovely to sit there in the evening with a glass of wine with some music in the background when the poolside is beautifully lit up
Some crockery was broken & cracked.
Cood everything,,spa perfect,,suit very clean,big,silent,nice garden,ocean view,,
The garden & pool areas Large room & bed Restaurants were really excellent Poor shower pressure
We liked the outside areas, swimming pools and the gardens with all the many plants which were labled. The breakfast buffet was good and very enjoyable when siting outside on the terrace. The bar and restaurant service was good with very friendly staff.
The gardens are very picturesque. The atmosphere was very relaxing. You felt in your own cocoon even though you were near enough to the town.
The facilities-spa, swimming pools and the comfortable sitting areas both in and outside the hotel. One person at the reception area was quite unhelpful when I had requested a garden view room and was given a room with a 'building site' view. We subsequently got what we had requested which was lovely.
well designed, spacious rooms with all needed facilities. all hotel is freshly new and stylish.Upon arrival our room has been "upgraded" to suit with see view and own garden (for the same price as before). good connection to the city center- app 5-7 euro for taxi (optional- free hotel shuttle bus).Hotel provides also several sport/trip activities spa facility is open only untill 19, booking for treatments has to be done in app 2 days in advance
The room was very spacious, great seaview, large balcony. Fully equipped with fridge, safe deposit box, robes, kettle etc. Cleaned every day to high standard. Excellent facilties - swimming pools, gardens, bars etc. Large range of entertainment. Only ate in one of the restaurants - Il Basilico which was very good. Huge choice for breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff at all times. The new manager Antonio introduced himself to guests individually and was very charming. Courtesy bus in to town was useful. Location is very good - not too far out of town, but plenty of good restuarants around, banks, post office, shops etc. Would definately go back again and highly recommend this hotel for older couples or families with very young children. Not for teenagers or older children though. Bar prices are higher than in local restaurants, but you expect that in an hotel.
Staff were great, food incredible, and in May was very quiet even though lots of people around. No loud music or kids running around when enjoying relaxing at the pool.
Huge room, kitchenette, fridge, good lights and great location. the AC didn't seem to work or I didnt fully understand it.
Our room was well equipped and the gardens and swimming pool areas were very nice Kettles which took ages to boil......electric kettles would be better
I liked the good environment in terms of familiarity with the staff. I didn't like the smell of the apartment (related to canalization, drain waters?)
Room quite big, as it was a studio.Indoor swimming pool, although not as good as for 4 star hotel, was a plus in rainy days.Liked the free bus to city centre. Definitely not a 4star, but more of a low 3 star.however, for 41 euro per night,i think it was great. Room and toilet very dirty, plenty of hair everywhere (floors, walls, toilet etc.). Breakfast with not much choice. Definitely not a 4star, but more of a low 3 star.In the studio,no tv in bedroom, but only in living area.
value for money was excellent. it had excellent conditions, nice inner pool, great outside pool, bedrroms had space, the view was nice, it has a great location, just in front there is a shopping area, and across a nice ocean/ natural pool area with great restaurants. great service and nice people. garage was 3 € extra per day. wich some how i only find out there. even with this, the price was excellent.
Good and relaxing atmosphere. Services are working properly. Very kind personnel. Only small minus in room - extra bed was not so good that it should be in four star Hotel.
- Studio quite big - indoor swimming pool in rainy days - sauna - free bus to/from funchal - beside big shopping centre - several option for food and restaurants - excellent value for 41e per night (i would not pay anything more than this) - very dirty - they didnt hoover/clean my room on second day, just made up the bed - some studios dont have double bed - tv in living area of studio, impossible to see from bed - indoor swimming pool very old - steam room never works - not a 4* hotel, maybe a good 2* or a poor 3*
It was really nice surprise that the room had a small kitchen. Nice view from the window. Near the hotel you can find shopping center which open till the late evening. staff in restaurant might be more polite. Breakfast was super, especially grilled banana!
It is a lovely and peaceful hotel, yet in a central location, set amongst beautiful gardens. The staff are very friendly without being obtrusive, and the facilities are very good. We were upgraded and had a super room, with a huge bathroom.
Breakfast was served in a beautiful location and was deliciously fresh with a great selection.
The friendliness and efficiency of the staff, together with the lovely gardens and convenient location of the hotel.
Being able to completely chill out. The thoughtfulness of the staff. The excellent food. The relaxing spa.
The hotel is situated in a subtropical garden that exudes peace and quiet. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. No
The style of the building and the garden setting Food was slightly disappointing
The whole atmosphere. Everything was so nice, the service, the restaurant, the garden, swimming pool, etc.
location, gardens, restaurant, room quality
The good modern design of the hotel and especially the lovely garden setting in an area of Madeira increasingly ruined by overdevelopment.
The service was generally good whilst one or two individuals gave excellent service. The modern design of the hotel is striking and will stimulate many people. The gardens are beautiful. In short, all the facilities aim to be top rate. The actual delivery sometimes falls short. The hotel advertises excellence; excellent restaurant; spa, etc. But the restaurant is not excellent and the spa failed to open promptly at the advertised 7.00 on three of the fort times we used it; whilst the jacuzzi wasn't working properly during the entire stay.
Overall a very pleasant stay. I booked a suite but the Hotel double booked it meaning I only got a Standard Room.
Large very well equipped rooms, even at the cheapest rate, include mini kitchen with hob, sink and fridge , lots of bathroom packets, even a towel for the pool . Good quiet location surrounded by restaurants and a short walk into the main town. Next door to cable car up to Monte and Gardens. Free parking in private garage. Breakfast buffet is plentiful and varied; table kept clean despite the volume of clients. External space is cramped to allow for the pools and other areas which is not unusual in Madeira town hotels. Hotel is quite large and has tours all of which is more obvious at breakfast.
A spacious, well equipped, room with a superb ensuite. Excellent buffet breakfast. Good swimming pool and gym. There was rather too much mechanical noise close to our room, which seemed to be coming from the air conditioning, even though this was turned off in our own room.
The hotel is understated luxury. The breakfasts were excellent and the staff were generally cheerful, polite and courteous. The pool area was immaculate. We had a wonderful sea view and our room was spacious and clean. No! Everything was perfect!
Excellent location, very clean and comfortable room, tasty and plentiful breakfast, nice and respondent staff. Poor entertainment program
Excellent position on the sea front, and good location in the main town to reach other facilities
the sea view from the room.the indoor pool. the facilities in the room.
Location in old town. Friendly and efficient staff. Superb standard of hotel. Room had a kitchenette and fridge which was useful to have. Nothing
It is good quality hotel with excellent facilities .Seemed to be popular with older clientele. Brilliant location 5 min walk from town. We particularly enjoyed the breakfasts (on the terrace when it was sunny) Only one small gripe. We thought the indoor swimming pool was quite cold which was a disincentive to use it.We did mention it to reception so don't know whether this was a problem or the accepted standard for the hotel
The peacefulness. Not a hotel for the young- more suited to mature couples.
Very comfortable hotel, smart and luxurious, great views of Funchal from the terrace, looking down on the port. Watch the tobogans go past from the terrace. Evening meals very good, great breakfasts. Situated very near end of tobogan run, road very steep outside hotel for both going up and going down. Minibus to port at 10.00, but no return til late afternoon(long hard 2 kilometre uphill walk back). For our stay, there was continuous noise of dogs barking, which was annoying if you wanted to sit on the terrace.
I stayed for 6 nights. The staff was fantastic, the views were excellent, the spa is very nice after walking up and down the mountains. It is a little bit up in the hill but that makes it genuine and makes you walk and fantastic views, good sunsets!!
The hotel was very nice in terms of appearance w/ amazing views. Upon arrival hotel staff extended a friendly greeting and were very helpful in getting us quickly checked-in and into our room as soon as possible (despite our early arrival). The room was a nice size and the overall hotel facilities were well maintained and modern. The hotel has a very modern and sophisticated feel with clean lines and minimal but chic furnishings. I was surprised to find that the hotel had a pool as this feature was not noted on their website or the booking site. Hotel staff was very professional and helpful in terms of providing everything from restaurant recommendations, to arranging cabs/drivers, and providng directons to the local bus stop. While I appreciated and made use of the hotel shuttle service (which takes guests to the center of town) I wish it ran more frequently. During my stay the shuttle only drove into and out of town twice daily.
Beautiful view from room. Steep access on foot.
Very comfortable hotel, great conditions and an excellent view over Funchal! You need a car to travel anywhere, and the access is quite tricky.
Lots of pillows and the buffet breakfast was very good, champagne is always a nice touch
Excellent views, nice ambience, and good gym access to the car park, though very close, is a bit awkward as you have to walk up across a very steep hill
Quinta Mirabela is a small charming hotel, nicely decorated with amazing views. All receptionists were very helpful, answered all our questions, recommended very good restaurants and booked our trips for us that we enjoyed very much. There is a lot to like about this place, would go back anytime. I don`t think there is anything we didn`t like about the hotel,we read all the reviews so we were prepared for the bell ringing at 8am and dogs barking that came with it,but we didn`t mind it,we slept very well. We walked to town once, but found buses much quicker and efficient. We used a taxi from town once when it was raining all day and buses weren`t running it cost us 7 euros. Walking from the bus stop to the hotel wasn`t easy the first time, but our legs got used to it and it wasn`t a problem. We had several evening meals at Quinta Mirabela, but the menu wasn`t varied,a lot of fish on the menu,so we prefered to eat at different restaurants. Over all we had a very nice time thanks to the stuff and lovely people of the island of Madeira.
The peace and quite plus the quality of the hotel surroundings and friendliness of the staff The Bed could have been more comfortable
Excellent food at a reasonable price. Directions to hotel are not very straight forward. Get off the main highway at junction 12, go through traffic lights bearing left the take 1st right then 1st left and you will pick up signs for the hotel.
