Ask before you leave counter which tent to go to. ? Make sure you keep pushing gas in even when it says it’s done or buy the gas plan.. No tolls in St Louis but plenty of potholes. I mostly drove outside the city so I don't have any suggestions.

If you rent a car upon your arrival, you can conveniently discover everything St. Louis has to offer from museums, to the Botanical Garden, to the Mississippi River. Rent a car as soon as you land in Missouri and cruise through the city and adjoining areas, like the Mark Twain National Forest, which is located about 1 hour and 20 minutes by car from St. Louis.
Get a hire car upon landing at Lambert International Airport to be in the city in under half an hour. Service desks are located on the lower level of Terminal 1 and shuttle buses bring travelers to the pick-up locations of the cars. Companies include Avis, Alamo, and National. The I-70 E will bring drivers quickly and conveniently to St. Louis and many places of interest like the Busch Stadium, the City Museum, or, of course, your hotel.
St. Louisans have a reputation for not adhering to street regulations like turn signals or yielding, so double check before entering a roundabout or intersection -- especially since drivers here are also known to sometimes run a red light when it has just switched from green. Driving defensively will definitely help and, when adhering to speed limits and paying extra attention, drivers should face no problems.
Winters can bring rain and snow to St. Louis and road conditions are not ideal in the city when the cold weather hits, so make sure the hire car is properly equipped. Adapting speed when it snows or rains is pivotal, and, if possible, driving should be avoided altogether when the weather conditions get too severe. Also note that in St. Louis each district has its own methods to deal with the snow, meaning some roads may be salted while others may be plowed, making the streets narrower.

Ive had the worst experience I ever had with hertz rental car . I have never had an experience such as this ever . The customer service was bad we had to wait an hour to receive a car then the hertz store only had one car which they didn’t have the inventory what we had originally what was pre-paid for so we had to pay an additionally fee. Then the young lady that worked for the company lied to us told us we can bring the car back at 5:00 and would take us back to the airport . She lied to us when we got there the store was closed and we were way out not even by an airport. I stay on the phone with Hertz for and whole hour to talk about my experience. Didn’t get a live agent . Then when it was finally time for us to go we almost missed our plan due to the gate of the rental store was locked we had to give the key and leave the car on the property at Chevy dealer with Jason. Whole experience was awful. The young lady that they had working there was so un professional. She could have giving us the right times for business hours. Which she didn't she basically misled us on everything with the rental. Not a happy customer by far. Hertz never tried to make things right either. POOR SERVICE THERE at the store Nd over the phone. They never resolved our issue.

They literally charged me for items I didn't agree to. Budget Case: 79716872 Reservation: 40238280US5 Rental Agreement: U218994193 In my recent car rental (ref 12794843 from QEEQ, searched through Kayak), I was charged $381.80 and paid in advance. The bill showed $0 due at pickup. From the vendor, Budget, I received another charge of $263 upon returning the vehicle. For refueling option and an upgrade, I had agreed to neither at pickup. The car was a "mystery car" booked through QEEQ - I had no choice in the vehicle selection, let alone on any upgrade. I specifically declined the refueling option, and returned the vehicle with a full tank.

Vehicle maintenance light was on. Windshield wiper fluid out. Check in representatives try to give me an SUV instead of a full size. Stated they didn’t have a vehicle in that class. Then backtracked and said they did. When I dropped the vehicle off, the man did not close my rental out. Still don’t have any final paperwork that should show a lower cost since I dropped off early. The people who work there from the counter guy, to the gate person to the return guy were all super friendly and extremely helpful. I’m not sure I have ever rented from Alamo before but I had a great experience.

When we picked up the car and went outside, the two greeters were chatting and showing pictures on their iPhones. After waiting a couple of minutes I had to ask if they were the greeters that were to get my car. We were anticipating getting a Camry as that was what was advertised and that is a car we were familiar with. The only car in the row of full-size cars was one !!! Impala. They radioed to someone and an assistant manager came out and began going off to bring up other cars. By this time, there were several other customers wanting any car to get onto their Business appointments. After considerable confusion, the assistant manager offered us a Hyundai Kona, telling us it was a considerable upgrade. We did not feel that it had much acceleration since we were having to get on the interstate and drive a couple of hours to our destination. When we returned the car on Natural Bridge Road coming from the east, we and five other customers turned in where it says “drop off.” along the fence. We parked the car and took our bags to the shuttle location only to find that we had left the car in an incorrect space and should have come down to the light at the next street to find your entry drive for drop off. This was considerably wearing on us in the heat to walk back with bags etc. Our wish would be a different sign at that turn in. I do wish to say that when we picked up the car, the shuttle drivers and the desk staff were more than polite, efficient and helpful. They are your stars. We would wish for a Code or number for discount that would make us return to Alamo as I am the one who does the booking. When my husband was working, he had a code for National and we always enjoyed the nice cars that we used during those years. Everything has changed since those days and that number is no longer recognized or honored. Thank you for your wish for feedback I do not wish to be a complainer as we recognize how difficult good service is to find these days. Mrs. Steve Stone

They didn’t tell me before hand that I had to have an extra $300 so since I didn’t have it, they didn’t let me rent the car. Very rude and boisterous about it as well.

Pick-up truck

The car was fine but the pick up was in the wrong location. When renting a car from an airport you assume it is from the airport hire car branch. We arrived to find that our car was actually reserved in the down town branch, 25 minutes from the airport and closed in the evening. Had to get an Uber to the hotel that evening and then an Uber to the car hire shop in the morning. When I got there the car seat I booked was missing and only available at the airport so I had to drive back there. Not the best start to our trip and a waste of a day and Uber costs. Everything else about the car was fine.

Terrible. They basically took my money and made me pay $120 in uber fees there and back because they weren’t accepting my form of payment which was from my bank account . I’ve used that card as credit and they wouldn’t even try to run it even though I know it would’ve went through as it has before at other places when I have to run it as credit. My bank even said they should’ve ran it and it would’ve been fine.

Long line at pick up with only one agent available to assist customers. A second was back from lunch break but the process was slow. Waited in line for an hour before getting a dirty car, though clean on the inside. Drop off was a much better experience.
