Winterberg hotels

Pros: Nice rooms, very clean. Nice Spa Area and delicious breakfast. They cook fresh eggs (omelette and stuff with fresh toppings like Tomato, onions, bacon etc.) Also you can make yourself some fresh orange juice.

Cons: Reception and restaurant staff could be a little friendlier... it was okay they took care of what we asked them for but always had some kind of attitude. The two water Dispensers in the Spa Area were out of order the whole stay. Guess they use them only for decoration. :/ So bring your own water when using the sauna.

Pros: We like how spacious the apartment is and how well equipped it is. The kitchen has all the cooking utensils you'll need to make proper meals. Also, we like the balcony and big windows with nice views.

Cons: It wasn't walking distance from the ski lifts. You definitely need a car to get around from the ski resort. We didn't like that our apartment was far from the main hotel building. We felt like we were not allowed to use the facilities at the hotel. Apartment guests had to pay extra to use the spa.

Pros: Nice reception, nice breakfast, nice spa area, quite good location, nice atmosphere in the hotel.

Cons: The outside light was on all night, shining bright in our room. The shower was broken, the beds not the best. The pool is too cold! Over two hundred euros for one night is quite expensive for what you get in a junior suite.

Cons: Imagine being stuck in front of the hotel entrance in the middle of the night because your key card doesn’t work and the hotel emergency number doesn’t respond. Imagine the desperation of the person left alone in a foreign country in the middle of the night on the street in winter, without documents and money because you just took your dog out for a 5min walk before going to bed. Well that’s what happened to my girlfriend and when I refused to pay for that one night I was told that it happens, it’s not their fault and I should pay anyway. Not even an apology. I’m sorry what? 250e for the night you stole me and my girlfriend's sleep?

Cons: It's a bit old, the hallways smell like dust, the rooms are incredibly hot

Pros: Breakfast was great! Lovely selection! Pool was amazing and quiet most the time. Our one bed apartment, with bunk beds for the children was spacious and clean.

Cons: Parking was an extra €9 per day. There was a fire scare and we all left the hotel and stood freezing in the car park and not one member of staff from the hotel explained what was happening, how long we’d be there etc! Staff were either really nice and welcoming (village pub) or quite rude (a receptionist).

Pros: Helpful staff. We wanted to change our apartment to a hotel room and the reception was very accommodating. Also they’ve been very helpful in sending back my BT headset that I left in my room. Great!

Cons: We had a great room right above the heated pool, but is was HOT in the room as a result.

Cons: Sometimes waiting too long until someone from stuff comes in basement to open the door where the ski room is. Some guests were just to loud and noisy very late in night, in sauna and jacuzzi outside in garden, stuff has to pay also attention to other guests. Parking is complicated, as you have to pick up the key from reception, park the car and bring the key back to reception, which is, in bad weather conditions, very difficult and unpleasant.

Pros: mostly what was good was the staff,very friendly and helpful. spotlessly clean... beautiful forest near by

Pros: The site was relaxing from the moment I walked in. Spotlessly clean but not sterile in effect. I was in a single room but it had a double bed and quite a lot of space with smart fittings and large bathroom. Being on the bottom floor this made access to breakfast and the wellness centre as fast as could be. The rooms also were lovely and silent giving a comfortable feel. Facing the farm through the windows each morning was lovely. A lot of options at the buffet breakfast to keep you going through a day outdoors. I'd love to visit again.

Cons: Only two improvements, 1. Screen off the fitness area more and it will encourage use. 2. (And I appreciate this is not the hotel) It would be good if the swimming pool was accessible before 8/9am to get laps in before breakfast starts to then enable an earlier start to the day.

Pros: Nice view, nice suite ...

Cons: This was our 7th visit, before this time we always paid during check out, this time I had to pay at check in our I could not go to the room. Is this because of the new management? It certainly was not what we expected when we booked this suite at a price of 300 euro per night ... what do they think this attitude will bring them?

Pros: 1, The room condition is good, with a big bathroom. 2. It's also good that this hotel is pet-friendly, with a cost of 20 euro per pet per night. 3. There is a forest just beside the hotel, and the hotel is close to the super market.

Cons: 1. The location of the hotel is a bit far away from the skylift. It's about 20 min walk from the hotel to P1 or P6. 2. The sound insulation of the room is not very good 3. Hotel WIFI speed is limited, it's good to use it for texting or social media, but not good enough for video streaming.

Pros: Good breakfast, there is a ski bus that ride you every hour to the good places in Winterberg.

Cons: Reception was very bad. No information about how we had to go to our room! No English speaking person at the reception when we arrived, we was constantly speaking German. No information about how we could have dinner etc. The swimming pool was freezing, very cold. At dinner there is a buffet you pay 17,50 euros for it, but there is nothing mentioned like vegetarian or you don't know what kind of meat you are eating. We will definatelly not go back. Waste of my money!

Pros: The hotel offers nice swimming pool and gym, which is perfect alternative for when you expectations of ski-weather are not fulfilled.

Cons: The window in our hotel room stopped shutting, thus we spent 2 hours of our valuable time trying to fix it, clarifying with the stuff how to go about it and then waiting for their offered solution.

Pros: breakfast was good. basic but enough to choose about. Sauna was nice but no one to watch it so there were people who did not applied to the rules.

Cons: the descriptions of the room was not correct. Mentioned was shower or bad and a hot tube. At the reception they told us that there are no hot tubes in the rooms and that all rooms have a shower and no bath. So we were a little bit disappointed because we expected the hot tube. otherwise we may have chosen another hotel in the neighbourhood of Winterberg.

Pros: Good location if you come by car. Wellness was a nice extra and breakfast was top

Cons: The reception had 2 staff members. Lady in the morning was nice, very friendly and helpful. The guy working in the evening was a bit rude.

Pros: We had almost everything we need for our stay. Clean and spacious apartment.

Pros: The Astenkrone has the air of a luxury hotel, but at a very reasonable price. The public rooms are very comfortable. Our room was large and had a great view. The breakfast is great. The swimming pool is excellent and also has a hot tub. This is the third year that we have stayed at this hotel and we have always liked it.

Cons: The one weak point is the cooking, which is acceptable but not great.

Pros: Big spacious room. Very clean and comfortable (apart from a lot of dust on the bedside tables). Well stocked kitchen in the apartment. Gorgeous pool- swam until 10 mins before check out. Well stocked bar. Great location.

Cons: There was a big breakfast buffet with a good selection of cold cuts but there were only 3 hot items. For 17.50 euros I would expect a choice of freshly made eggs or at least some mushrooms, potatoes, baked beans or tomatoes. The feather pillows looked so inviting but when you put your head on them, they just went flat. We used rolled up blankets underneath to give them some substance. Very thin and hard towels.

Pros: we love this hotel and will be back again for sure, great location with parking and a ski lift a few steps from the door (if there is enough snow), family friendly with some good food and things to do when not outside, a pool table and swimming/sauna with stunning views over the 'mountains'

Pros: Great hotel in the centre of Winterberg! Close to all the shops and restaurants and a 10/15-minute walk to the ski-lifts. The staff was lovely and very friendly and helpful. We also added breakfast to our stay and this was a great choice! Good spread and eggs cooked the way you would like. We really enjoyed our stay and if we're ever back in Winterberg, we will definitely stay here again!

Cons: We had a double bed but with two separate mattresses, one of us kept rolling into the gap in the middle. For comfort, we would have preferred it if it was one big mattress. The decor could do with an update it all looks very 90s/00s.

Pros: Great place to stay for a short break. I had a big room on the top floor. Nice and peaceful. Sauna was really great! Clean and hot, not like many hotels sauna's where they don't heat it up that much.

Cons: The scent and the smoke of the kitchen which was hanging all around the hotel in the evening.

Cons: The ski lift right beside the hotel was not in operation due to poor snow conditions. A car ride of a few minutes is now needed to reach the slopes.

Cons: Heating was on full power like a sauna, the room was absolutely filthy and full of dust. When I complained and asked to see a manager the staff promised a manager would come but never came to see us. Nobody actually cared about it. A hotel that charged me £150 a night with a room the size of a travelodge without a bath. Broken shower, filthy with dust and marks everywhere and very dated decor. Also booking.com quoted me £10 less than I got charged. How insulting, I will never book through booking.com ever again and never stay at this hotel.

Pros: The location is beautiful, great for skiing. The hotel is located slightly out of the town (10 minute drive) but plenty of parking is available at both the hotel and in the town. We enjoyed the indoor swimming pool. The food and service in the bar area was fantastic. Overall, we enjoyed are stay and will visit again.

Cons: The rooms are very basic - a coffee/tea maker would be nice. Breakfast was good but some variation would be nice since every day is exactly the same.

Pros: The hotel was very clean and comfortable. Fresh towels were left everyday. Food was very nice and there was great service in the restaurant.

Cons: There is no mention of the addition tax on top of the price quoted which added to the total cost of the hotel. Although something most hotels in Europe charge if it is not included in the price quoted it is normally stated.

Pros: The wellness center of hotel grimmeblick is decorated like a Moroccan hamman and comprises a steam sauna, sauna , 2 jacuzzis and a small pool.

Cons: Restaurant booking system doesnt work. No mini club (contrary to what is advertised) despite holiday week in February.

Cons: We didn’t like the curfew at 10pm. They have locked the hotel and we couldn’t enter after our dinner. They have no WiFi and they do not respect the “Do not Disturb” sign hanging on the door. They don’t speak English either. We also didn’t like the unfriendliness, rudeness and impolite of the staff, I have called to let them know we would arrive at 10.30pm but still we have wait about 15min to be able to get in, and when the person (which was aware of our late arrival due the phone call) came, she made us feel like they were doing a favour to let us stay in the hotel. We noticed an extreme lack of care and attention towards the guest, is a clear explanation that the only reason this place exist at this rates is related to the relative proximity to the skii station. Probably you will stay in this hotel (because of the price (90 euros per night) and have last minute availability) but life is short and I would love to forget about the WiFi, talk to the owner, smile and forgive ... the owner knows what I am talking about.

Cons: Only guest in hotel - extra charge for sauna if we were to use it. Maybe better at weekend when more guests but over-charged for one night mid week.

Pros: Very comfy bed! Family room size was fine for us and a 11 and 9 year old.

Pros: The room was clean and the balcony had good view. Nice breakfast room and very good breakfast. The possibility to buy some drinks any time from the fridge in breakfast room, and possibility to use the room in the evenings for games, etc is nice. The drinks were also reasonably priced.

Cons: The size of the room and especially bathroom was far too small for a pension of this price, at this location (not extremely central). The room was not in the main building, so we needed to go outside, over an icy path to get to the main building, where there is breakfast and wellness. This took away some motivation to make use of the facilities.
