Excellent hotel near the heart of the riverwalk.
Location Elevator use was impossible, walked down stairs from 15th floor with luggage.
I was very surprised that not only did I get free breakfast with my stay but also free dinner (buffet) and 3 free happy-hour drinks each day! The staff was friendly (sometimes almost over-friendly), and the location was perfect. Highly recommend. Room smelled like chlorine when I came in, and the water tasted heavily chlorinated. The room was a bit poorly lit, and the windowsill outside the room was consistently overrun with pigeons. Glasses as opposed to plastic cups would be preferred (for the environment), and a safe to lock up valuables would have been nice. (I prefer not to have to take my passport with me everywhere.)
Great breakfast, lovely bathroom, comfortable beds. Very slow elevators. Unfortunately we were leaving the same time a large group from a convention was checking out and the 3 elevators could not keep up with the demand.
Enjoyed the kickback and proximity to riverwalk. they charged my card $482 dollars for parking when it was only supposed to be $46. Took them a week to refund the money and then they still charged me for the parking!! What a joke! Where is the coustomer service?
The service from the hotel was very much as I would of expected. As soon as in pulled I to valet, the valets were very kind to not only greet and open the door, they immediately unloaded the car and took me inside to check in. With warm greeting from the staff, I was very impressed with how clean the entire hotel was in addition to the room. Great service and defiantly will be back One if the employees seemed to have a little bit of attitide considering that all I asked for was to have shaving cream sent to my room. Other than that, everything else was fine.
Location is adjacent to convention center, staff is very professional and strives to make you feel welcome. Rooms are clean and everything worked. Rooms are dated with sound transmitting walls. Amenities are business travel grade without the higher end amenities expected for the price.
Everything, but the outdoor smoking areas were in direct sun or behind pool area that had no air.
Very nice accommodations. Breakfast buffet was understaffed, was not explained properly
From the complimentary brunch at Ruth Chris, to the friendliness of the staff, i am impressed everytime i come here.
Beautiful view. Very peaceful. Didn't realize there would be 60$ charge for parking
Location was right no the river. Beautiful Lobby Rooms were very comfortable, awesome view of the tower. Valet Parking was $37 + Tax = $40.00!
I didn't like that when checking in they ask for my credit card again after I had already paid $857 online. Not knowing that valet was not included they kept trying to swipe different amounts to charge and blocked my card for suspicious faudulent charges. Terrible communication cuz they could've asked me what card I wanted to use, nothing. Also valet customer service was horrible while my sister was arriving in her vehicle with my nephews she asked for help carrying her luggage off and was ignored by valet. He could've called someone for help, but definitely not worth the money, never again
The staff was very friendly, helpful, and professional. Train noise in the early morning hours outside the hotel and noisy visitors next door and down the hall.
The room was small and we couldn't even upgrade
I loved the location. Steps from the river and the mall. My room had way too much wear and tear. The head board was all scratched up. The tub has cracked and rusted and was clogged up the water would not drain when i took a shower. The door handle was at 5 o clock instead of 3. The room did not feel like a Grand Hyatt room. It felt like i was at a cheap hotel. I suggested to the manager that that room should not be occupied untill it get fixed.
Stayed there for SA Marathon. Had to get up at 4:30 but could hear loud music outside until 10 PM. Also, AC did not work very well.
I got an upgrade to another room and it was awesome there on out
My room location was awesome. The view I had for the firework show during New Years Eve was even better. I live and work in the UAE (Dubai). We have some of the best and most world class hotels that anyone can offer. With that said,....my first stop when I landed last week was the Palacio Del Rio. I put my bags on top of the dresser and when I pulled them off,..I found a lot of dust on top of the dresser. I did not make a fuss about it,..but I do know that the places I stay around the globe will not tolerate such a thing. Other than that,..the staff there was extremely polite and helpful. I will def. stay at the Palacio del Rio during my next visit to San Antonio.
Staff very helpful, assisted in getting my husband a golf tee time, friendly, patient, good suggestions for things to do, and places to get services. Would have liked spa services available at the hotel.
No free wifi
Seemed to have difficulty getting auto from valet parking. Took 50 minutes one time.
Friendly, helpful and warm staff. Location is excellent, right smack at the river walk. Within walking distance to all main attractions in the city
Staff, service, room, and the hospitality was awesome.
We stayed river side and enjoyed the balcony view and relaxation. All employees were extremely kind and considerate! Thanks for a wonderful stay. Parking was too expensive.
Nice room right on the riverwalk parking was a big issue and expensive
The river walk A little expensive for the small room
Very clean. Polite, professional staff. Wife enjoyed the spa and the gym is very nice. Good location for visiting all of the tourist spots in san Antonio. No hand rails in the bath tubs/shower. Fell twice getting into and out of the shower. Sides of the tub are very high. Too many children running around the halls unattended, noisy. No frig or micro wave in the room. Onsite food and drink is very expensive. Ice machines are far apart on the floors. no vending machines for late night drinks/snacks. Valet parking is very expensive. View was nothing spectacular because of the trees surrounding the hotel.
Cyn from the front desk and Michael at the concierge desk were fantastic! They helped make my stay amazing!
THE staff was very accommodating and very nice. Everything was provided before I would ask for it. Overall, a great experience . Love the old Spanish charm that the hotel is made off. Very charming ambiance. The session that I attended in San Antonio finished every 2230 in the evening. I did not like that the hotel restaurant is close early like around 2200. I wish the restaurant is open 24 hours. I also wish that there is a Starbucks inside the hotel for the convenience of all the hotel guest.
Location and large size rooms Issues with hot water and terribly slow and incompetent valet
nice "earthy' atmosphere and location love the suite option very expensive valet parking and no self parking lot poor room service options and other snack options no balconies or windows to open poor ventilation in rooms small pool and hot tub broken
Made a special stop at the river walk on our five day trek from Pittsburgh to puerto Vallarta Mexico. Stopped to enjoy the beautiful view and exeperience the river walk. The resort was absolutely gorgeous. Unique with design, very friendly conceierge, and beautiful room layout. Our one and only critique, and rather silly at that, after pulling in with our vehicle and stopping at the front valet, the attendant seemed almost shocked when we said, yes we would like you to park the car, and replied with an almost doubtful "are you sure? Wouldn't you like to hear the prices?" Though I'm sure he was just trying to do his job and avoid later frustration, the tone in which he asked us the question was borderline offensive. Young man if we can afford to stay where we are staying we certainly assure you we can afford to park.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating! The fee for parkig at the hotel was ridiculous, $36 per night.
Check In was easy. Hotel room sitting area was actually very comfortable and functional to use, unlike most average hotel suites. Location was great. On the Riverwalk plus just 2 blocks from literally everything. Self parking lots were super close as well, if you don't like waiting for the valet everytime. Hotel desk staff were business friendly, but it did not feel genuine. Which is the opposite of everyone else we met in San Antonio. This was one of the friendliest cities we've encountered!! Also the tub in our room did not drain properly, so you stood in water while you showered and the faucet was loose and spun all the way around.
very clean, great location, friendly staff,
The room was considerably larger than I expected, with a separate sitting area. Everything was clean, and in good condition. The regular price was fairly expensive, but I managed to get a reasonable rate through Expedia.
The front desk staff was unprepared and it to over 45 minutes to check in
The suite was great - nice sitting area, spacious bathroom, good bedroom and everything worked perfectly. The hotel's location is directly on a loop of the riverwalk which is good because it puts you right into the attraction, but is not on the main section so it's much quieter and easier to find a dining place. Parking is available across the street from the hotel and the street itself is not as busy as those nearer the Alamo. Parking at the hotel is a ridiculous $36/night and they charged for two parking spots for our two motorcycles even though we actually had both bikes consolidated out of the way in the valet area not even in the parking garage. That was irritating. The hotel staff were polite but very cold and decidedly unfriendly. Don't believe I did anything to be offensive or difficult - I didn't even argue about the parking issue - but all of the desk staff (two in the evening, one in the morning) gave the impression they had much better things to do than speak with me.
The Menger is very historic and literally right across the street from the Alamo. There are lots of things to do that are within easy walking distance that give you the San Antonio experience. The historic nature alone is worth the stay. We didn't get a room in the old, original, historic section. Our room was outdated and in need of renovation.
The historic portion of the hotel is beautiful! Rooms are small, full size bed... but very nice and very clean. I would like to suggest that better quality sheets be used on the bed... sheets were way to big, so they tangled up at your feet. The beds are not the most comfortable to begin with and the sheets only made it worse.
Historical, legendary hotel - also comfortably contemporary ... Plus, the staff at the front desk was polished and helpful. They made us feel they were serious about our enjoyment of the hotel. Would have liked to have stayed another day to enjoy more of the amenities, such as the Menger Bar and its TR Rough Riders connection. Note: You really need a "none of the above" category for the second question on who was in your party -- none of those definitions fit. This was frustrating and I almost didn't write this review, but decided to submit it by checking "group of friends" even though it's wholly inadequate to describe my party, which was me, my sister, and mother, and my sister's boyfriend.
I like the over all feel for the hotel. The size of the room. But looked at the other rooms and i guess for a bit more you gst more space.
Beautiful hotel with charm and character. So close to everything and convenient for someone on foot/ for public transport/ for tours. Great pool. People working there were very nice - allowed late check out at 1:00pm. A bit noisy at night - one night it was loud drunk tourists, once it was random construction at restaurant in mall next door, & once the fire alarms went off. I don't think it's the hotel's fault though.
Location is excellent Beds are quite narrow. Air conditioning went out one night. Thankfully, it was repaired the next day.
We liked the location so much!! Just besides the Alamo, and the hotel is nicely preserved!! You can see the age of the hotel in the rooms! The bathroom was extremely small but usefull. The valet it's on the expensive side!!
If you want a little history stay, this place is it. This place is great old school hotel with the oldest bar in town. Has a nice pool and inner garden to chill. Nice helpful staff Rooms were clean and large. The shower could have stronger flow and pool service coming around a bit (there is a phone to place order) but that is not a big deal. Location is perfect - Riverwalk starts right here and Alamo is a cross the street Can't open windows in the room (the old bulding) Shower has weak water flow
I stay here often and I have tried other places it's so luxurious for the money and the location is in the middle of everything!
San Antonio's 1859 hotel was all it promised. Perfect central location next to the Alamo, and the Menger Hotel itself is rich in history, generously displayed throughout the building. The room itself was just fine, but I am interested mostly in the ambience outside the room (so long as the beds, showers and such are good). We will return. One note of special interest: the maid was a great source of info; cheerful and helpful! The view from the window? - a wall! Next time we will ask for a courtyard or other external, interesting view. Otherwise, all was well.
The hotel's location can't be beat: a block away from the Alamo, a couple blocks away from the convention center, and right next to a shopping mall with a wide variety of restaurants and stores. The staff was very friendly. The room worked for what I needed, but it could have been better. The bathroom was small and was, for some reason, built 6-8 inches higher than the rest of the room. You could hear everything through the walls.
Ordered breakfast off the restaurant menu. It was high priced and the portion size was small. 1 breakfast taco with sides was $16!
The hotel has a great location on the riverwalk in a quieter area next to the mall. The room we had (handicap) was very large, and the bed was comfortable. The lobby was nice, there was a starbucks in the lobby, and the food at the bar and restaurant were good. This was one of the biggest hotel disappointment I've had in the past. year. I traveled over 200 days in the past year and stayed at quite a few different hotels, so I don't say this lightly. When we first walked into the room (905 handicapped) the bathroom stood out as an eyesore. It was at least 5-10 years past when it should have been renovated. The grout was multiple different colors that made it look like it could be moldy, the wallpaper was peeling from the walls, and there was a general lack of craftmanship in the way it was constructed. The final straw was when I went to take a shower, and the shower head connection was leaking and spraying water in all directions. It wasn't just a loose connection, because I was unable to stop the leak. This is something a guest should never have to deal with at a chain like the Marriott. I asked the front desk to be transferred, but because it was a busy time the only available room was the room below us (805). This bathroom was in slightly better condition, although there were a few cracked and chipped tiles. Although the shower head worked, it was a very low end and cheap looking model. The bigger problem was when my wife tried to take a shower the first night, she was unable to maintain a constant water temperature. It would alternate between cold and very hot. She showed me how red her feet were, and I can only imagine what sort of a problem this could pose to an elderly or handicapped person. The other problem was the terrible tv reception while we were trying to watch the sugar bowl in our room. It would constantly blur or pause, making it nearly impossible to watch the game. Fortunately or unfortunately, the reception on the large tv's at the bar was fine. In summary, this is not the type of property I would expect for a Marriott. For the time around the new year the value wasn't bad (just under 200) however I would have preferred to spend 50% more on a room that looked like it had been renovated in the past 10-20 years. In the past year the only time I have experienced bathrooms in this sort of condition were in $50 rooms in towns with less than 5000 people. Buyer beware.
Room, location, close to activities All good
Beautiful room friendly staff
Overall clean Downtown and river walk location. Valet parking should be part of the overall expense. Coffee machine wasn't maintained. Mini bar wasn't inexistent however an offer sheet is advertised.
Excellent hotel with a nice view of the Riverwalk. The room and restaurant were first class and the staff was very helpful. Well worth the money The only problem we saw was around the pool where there was debris and refuse but there were also a lot of inebriated people there when we got there which might account for stuff on the ground and in the pool.
We enjoyed everything about our stay. The hotel is beautiful, and our room was wonderful. The service was great, and overall the hotel met all of my expectations.
Great Stay! Room was clean, spacious, and beds were comfortable.
Yes The view
the location 1. the 25usd/day for parking 2. the parking fee announced upon check out only 3. the not very pet-friendly 4. the state of the room
I loved everything but most of all the valet Chris who took such good care of two old women...his mother would be so proud of him. Please if you can tell him Mrs. Whitehead and Mrs. Nall so appreciate all he did for us.
Valet, Joe, was very helpful and friendly.
The beds were very comfortable, and the view was great Air conditioner dripped a puddle onto the floor, and 25 bucks a day to park my own car... just to have trees drop berries all over it that stank so bad... then birds eat them and poop all over the car too. I got to drive away angry after a relaxing weekend.
The location by the riverwalk What I didn't like is the gym, the website makes it sound nice. It has a 1 treadmill and weights the treadmill didn't work. The pool is very small the beds are too hard uncomfortable. Website also says fresh bake cookies at check in no cookies and when I requested still didn't have them ready.
Very close to the Riverwalk and all its restaurants. Hard to find the actual entrance to the hotel. Room was clean.
the location was within walking distance to the Riverwalk locations that we wanted to visit. The hotel bartenders at night were great and served very interesting concoctions. The room was clean and comfortable, the AC was cold, there was enough parking, staff was courteous and helpful. we will stay here again. parking per night was expensive, the bar/restaurant had limited hours in the afternoon, towels were small, wanted more drink specials
Close to Riverwalk.
Clean, spacious room with beautiful views. Great service staff. Cool fitness center. Excellent location in downtown San Antonio. Also, the channel line up was the best I've had at a hotel. I didn't like having to pay nearly $20 for parking for Each Night.
The covered parking and location. No convenience items were available for purchase. I needed distilled water for my CPAP breathing machine.
I love how close it is to the main River area and the cleanliness. Also, I liked the decor. I didn't get the pool view as it stated what I booked the room.
I like the bed very much, it gave me a good sleep No drinking water in the room, not at all!
the pool, the location is great no breakfast included for the price
The only thing that was not up to par was the breakfast menu and the sevice that was offered. I believe the resturant was not open for the time posted for breakfast and coffee was the only thing availabe for a timely departure.
It has a great location in downtown San Antonio and it was very quiet and clean. The room was a little crowded with furniture but what I really didn't like is that I was looking for a hotel with a parking lot in downtown San Antonio and although this is one it came with the surprise that I would have to pay extra for it which makes no sense, so after all it is a little expensive for what you get.
Everything from the friendly staff to the hotel room. Right as we arrived the staff welcomed us with a friendly smile. The room was spacious and clean. The bed was my favorite, right as I hit the bed I was out. Very, very comfortable! I would recommend this hotel to all my family and friends.would definitely stay again. The bathroom was to small.
Ample parking Small bathroom
Free breakfast Comfy beds Free parking 10 mins max walk to the Riverwalk Shower doors Breakfast long lines. Customer Service during breakfast times.
The king bed was amazing! Right on the river No hot tub
Pool area , 24/7 menu, staff very friendly helpful My shorts went to the laundry bin w pool towels and never resurfaced...many inquiries to the staff, no results They have 2 elevators, one out of order 4/5 days I stayed.
Room had plenty of room. Breakfast was good and varied each day. Bathroom a little small
The service was very good, Thanks
Staff took care of everything. In your room within 10 minutes. Just a walk away from river walk restaurants.
Very friendly and helpful staff The jack hammering and the broken elevator were a pain. The hotel lobby was under construction. Our view was of a boarded up building and a bank parking garage.
By far the best hotel and spa in San Antonio. Extremely polite and helpful staff.
The service was top notch.
Rarely does a hotel exceed expectations in both service and accommodations. The Watermark Hotel & Spa has. Twice now for me. Bravo. It's the only hotel I will stay in when visiting San Antonio.
Good location, generally nice hotel. A number of cleanliness issues- -Blood on the sheets (not kidding- blood on the sheets) which we had to have changed at 11PM as we were already ready for bed. -previously opened water bottles in the mini fridge...
1.The comfort and decor of the rooms and lobby; 2. the valet staff was excellent; 3. we enjoyed the restaurant on the Riverwalk; 4. I was pleased to receive a phone call from the security dept upon our return informing us about an item we left in the room and appreciated the offer to mail it to us; 5. the butter cream solution you gifted us with upon our arrival along with the glasses of champagne, were a welcome treat. 1.valet parking rae of $32 per day would dissuade us from staying there again; 2. the dirty champagne glasses from our stay the first night were never removed from the room during our two night stay; 3. I made arangements to have my hair done with the same stylist who had done my daughter's hair but she accepted an appointment with someone else which prevented me from getting my hair done for the wedding I was attending
The Bathtub was VERY nice and clean!
The closeness to the activities we wanted to participate in
The hotel was very close to the river walk. It was probably only a quarter mile from an entrance. The staff was very friendly. The room was very clean. There were plenty of towels. No issues
Location good and room facilities very good. Road noise was very bad and would stop me returning on a subsequent visit.
Great location close to the Riverwalk and Alamo, on-site restaurant and bar, very comfortable beds, the room had a separate sitting area with a couch, armchair, and second lcd tv (this was very practical when our 3 year old son was sleeping). No microwave in the room, Air conditioner was rather noisy, had to pay $15 a day extra for parking
I loved the clean room. I am very picky about restrooms being clean and this one was spotless. I loved the bed and pillows, I felt I was sleeping on a cloud. The hotel staff was also very nice and friendly and I would defenitly go back again. Two flat screen T.V. A+
Location of hotel There was no hot water and no water pressure during the shower, rates were not the ones published on Internet
The hotel is nice ...rooms are nice, not huge but it works ...it's 1 block to the trolley stop which is convenient too and there's a nice pool area too. It's a good location for getting around the downtown area and driving to Fiesta Texas and Sea World. The breakfast was okay but not what it's made out to be. Booking.com could not find out reservation. We called the hotel directly and they found it. We also told them we had 5 of us and they suggested we get a roll-away so we thought that would be more comfortable than the sofa bed (Which we thought it had) It turned out to be only a sofa and when we arrived and asked about it, they said they didn't have any - was against fire regulations.
this hotel had an air of comfort, cleanliness, and fun! We absolutely loved it . Location was the best ever!
I liked the distance we had because we could walk to the mall,riverwalk,resturants.ect.And if we was to go back we would maybe stay there again. the only thing I didnt like was that the first night we got there the valet we had was that our vehicle had been parked in a pretty dark place and unsecured we were worried that someone could break in our vehiclewhere it was parked the first night but then our soulution was fixed .then when we got back to our room after we got back at almost 12:00 midnight we had to change rooms because our room stunk and the floor by the a/c was soaked we got some belongings wet our shoes and my sons laptop case got soaked. But they droped our parking fee.
I like the location of the hotel to downtown san antonio.
Just 2 blocks from the Riverwalk which was great! They have a great pool, Starbucks in the room and wonderful sitting area. We arrived during the day, so received a primo valet parking spot. I wish there were exercise mats in the fitness center, for those of us who do sit-ups.
Cleanliness of room and friendly staff None
Close to Riverwalk activities
Cheapest hotel available that close to Riverwalk. Breakfast was included. Furnishings are worn, but clean. Small, dark parking area (which you pay for.) AC in room asks to not turn below 74 (Texas is hot, even in October). No ice machine on 2nd floor.
Close to Riverwalk and Alamodome. Room was pretty comforting. Roaches in the restroom. Traffic noise was noticable, hard to sleep comfortably through the night with that.
I enjoyed the location walking distance to San Antonio Riverwalk. Shuttle & City bus. Used Shuttle to AT&T Areana for the Houston & San Antonio basketball game. Loved the biege robes and breakfast. Missing refrigator & microwave in the room. Requested a queen bed had a double double beds.???
Parking was horrible. Accommodations were cramped.
Proximity to the Riverwalk was great; the hotel was very close and at just a block away there wasn't quite as much hustle and bustle outside of the hotel. It seemed to be very safe to walk to and from the Riverwalk even at night. The continental breakfast was great! Lot's of options. The windows are old and don't seem to keep out much of the street noise the the buses and trolleys. The set-up for the breakfast area is small so you usually had to wait awhile on other people to get your food in the morning.
Location was only good thing Front desk staff - mainly evening time not helpful at all . Seemed to not care. No parking on site for free as advertised
The history of the hotel, nearness to the river, shopping, hemisphere; so we could walk where ever we wanted to go. Chair in the room needed repair, crack in ceilling
I liked how close it was to the river walk and the scenery was marvelous! I didn't like that the door was so close to the toilet.
cozy feel continental breakfast was adequate (Texas-shaped waffles) clean rooms close to Riverwalk and walking distance from downtown attractions well-mannered staff
The room was nice and the staff friendly. No fridge in room, extra charge for parking.
It was nice knowing that we were staying in a hotel 110 years old. There were some beautiful parts to it, while others just didn't make sense (a phone in the bathroom, that was not connected, nor did it have a place to connect) We really liked the wooden floors in the room & that we could control the temperature in the room. No big air conditioning unit making a ton of noise when on - so that was great. When we checked in, my husband was trying to surprise me w/champagne waiting in the room. That was completely ruined by the girl who checked me in & she didn't even feel bad about it. On top of that, she kept asking if we wanted it in the room already & we told her yes, several times. We get to the room & 20 mins. later, still nothing. Finally my husband called & she still asked: you want your champagne now? Eventually, it shows up, but the "boy" didn't bring the glasses to drink from. 10 mins. later, he brings us wine glasses, instead of champagne flutes. We just gave up asking for anything else. My husband was very disappointed that he didn't get to surprise me properly (it was first time being away from our baby in 2 years) & the staff didn't seem to care. As for the room, it didn't look like it was cleaned properly. I found long blond hairs on the floor (I have short dark hair), some small yellow balls in the corner of the room - by the bed, & the bed sheets could probably have used a change. We slept on top of them. Also, my husband was bit by some scary white bug we've never seen before. It was nasty. Thank God he's ok though. I'm just glad we went through kayak & didn't pay the price the hotel thinks it's worth.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Great location across from Convention Center. Close to Riverwalk. Cool and quiet room perfect respite from summer heat.
Location Furniture is old and chairs look like they will break if you sit in them. All the upholstery looks dingy and dirty. Cracks in walls and floors. Poor overall look.
Staff, room, view, location, feel Bathroom needs grout and wallpaper help
