Pros:The breakfast was excellent. Very European in its nature and was a great start to the day. Then wine hour was something we looked forward too as well. The rooms were spacious and the staff was top notch.
Cons:Did not like the 1,000 hold the was placed on my credit card for incidentals.

Pros:This hotel is centrally located in mid-town Manhattan and withIn walking distance of many attractions, restaurants and metro stations. Lexington is a busy street so it is always safe to walk at night. The rooms are large and modern as are the bathrooms. 48 Lex is a great example of a mid town boutique hotel.
Cons:Our room was quite noisy. The subway passes underneath the hotel and you can hear that in a third floor room. The front desk is really just a table top staffed by one person so allow plenty of time to check and out of the hotel.

Cons:When we checked in, we were informed of an additional "resort" charge of $40 which is tacked on after the room is booked. It is apparently stipulated in the email confirmation but felt like a bait and switch to add this charge after the room is booked and confirmed. I'd also booked a room w/ a sofa bed for my 14YO but our room only had one bed. When I called the front desk, they said I could upgrade for a charge -- which also felt like a bait & switch. And finally, the cordless receiver's battery was running low and started beeping at 2AM. I finally had to wrap it in towels and put it in the closet so I could sleep. In fairness, the manager the following morning was very sweet and apologetic but prior to talking with him, the rest of the staff seemed unsympathetic about the issues. As someone who owns/operates a business serving the public, I know from experience that staff should be trained to contact a manager if a guest is disgruntled rather than waiting and letting them complain to a manager 24 hours later. At that point, the damage is done. And finally, the hotel uses a strange artificial scent in the common areas which smells terrible and gave us both a headache.

Pros:The service was absolutely stellar. And the rooms themselves are truly gorgeous. Plush, comfortable living in New York.
Cons:Absolutely nothing wrong with where I stayed! No hiccups, I was well taken care of by the staff there. Aliana at the front desk is simply wonderful.
