Cons: Rooms were not kept cleaned and aired, dust on floors was a bit tooo much. Training (front desk) and attire (restaurant) of staff NEEDS to be revisited urgently. For a hotel of The Lord's Nelson's supposed standing change should be readily available to its guests...I was told there was no change for a 100 USD! USD should be a currency you readily accept. If there is doubt about authenticity maybe a counterfeit machine should be employed at front desk. Train the staff. Have reliable tour companies on call for guests.

Pros: The Lord Nelson is an old fashioned classy hotel with modern amenities. We especially enjoyed the decor of the lobby and mezzanine, and the hotel restaurant which was in the style of a classic English public house. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very nice and the beds comfortable.
Cons: Parking was a bit expensive at $28 (CAD) a day, and getting to and from the parkade was a bit of an ordeal, but being right downtown these things are expected. Many more positives to outweigh this one minor negative.

Cons: I was not impressed with the staff at the hotel who decided to continually knock on my door and tell me that people could not talk in my room. They stood outside the door and would not leave until we stopped talking. No music no tv and 3 people in the room having a conversation. If your walls are that thin that people can't talk you need to re-evaluate your hotel

Pros: The overall feel of the hotel was welcoming. Lovely facility and well maintained. Staffing was courteous and pleasant and very helpful. We loved the location and the fact that we could walk along the boardwalk and also walk around the city itself from that point. We were pleasantly surprised by a lovely bottle of Champagne in our room as we celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. As I said, the staff was fabulous.
Cons: It would have been nice to have had an option for breakfast but we were happy to see Starbucks on site and had our coffee and yogurt breakfast each day and saved the extra calories for a wonderful dinner in town on our walks. As for parking, it was an unexpected expense as we thought it was included in cost of reservation. As we found, however, in large cities this is common. Our car was safe and accessible and it was worth the money not to worry.

Pros: The headline kind of says it all. Usually when I stay at a hotel there's invariably something that goes wrong. I rarely complain, but nevertheless it can leave me with a sour taste in my mouth. But this property has never done anything wrong in my books. This is the second time I've stayed here, and I would definitely recommend it. The lobby is inviting, the restaurant is good, and the rooms are comfortable. No WOW moments, but then again, if you can leave without a single complaint, then there's something to be said for that.

Fortunately, a public garage is right across the street. Annoying though. The desk clerk said he would credit our bill for the prepayment, but failed to do so. That stated, very pleasant staff and nice facility. Good location. Front desk made a great dinner suggestion for us. So things improved after a rough start.

Cons: waited for 30 minutes to check in (huge lineup with lots of agitated guests) only one elevator, so waited 10+ minutes to get on the elevator EVERY time we had to use it (ended up giving up and taking the stairs a few times) For $180/night we could have stayed at one of Halifax's other beautiful hotels with less headaches.

Pros: This hotel is ideally located. Easy to drive into downtown or the water front. Also, just a short drive to explore the small coastal towns. Decent breakfast as well as a nice restaurant for dinner. Service and staff are excellent. Front desk associate, Matthew, was wonderful. He spent over an hour on the phone to straighten out an error by our booking company that nearly left us without a room. He even got them to give us a refund. Such a pleasure to receive such superior service!

Pros: When we go to Halifax it is the place we love to stay, it is clean, the staff are friendly and helpful, we love swimming in the pool and relaxing in the hot tub, it's great to have breakfast and parking included. Pros: The location was very convenient for both spending time in the city and driving to coastal hiking venues. The breakfast options were very good, and the staff were very friendly and efficient.
Cons: Noise from other rooms was a problem. Conversations were easily overheard, and the sound from the television in the next room was louder than the (preferred) volume on our own television!
