Horrible customer service
Pros: Shuttle driver to airport was friendly and fast.
Cons: We pulled up to return our car and no one came to greet us. When we went inside, the rep at the counter acted like we were a huge inconvenience. I asked to speak to her manager because the charges weren't making sense - she said her manager 'wasn't in' and that my issues were 'not her problem.'

Beware the insurance scam
Pros: Following what I beluved to be a good deal booking through kayak with budget, I was told no insurance had been purchased, not even the lowest possible option, nothing at all. I found this hard to beluved however they were very insistent and when they came to calculate the insurance the difference was negligible between the highest and the lowest but doubled the cost of the car rental. I did not get the car I ordered although it was suitable for what I needed and the guy knew nothing about the car even telling me the fuel I needed was not the correct fuel for the car and only the man at the fuel station saved me from putting the wrong fuel in. Bad experience with these crooks.

Listed for $4 a day. Actually $56 per day
Pros: The car was decent quality.
Cons: When picking up the car we discovered that mandatory $32 per day liability insurance and fees turned our $44 10-day rental into a $560 10-day rental. That's a huge difference. When I told the nice man at the counter that the listing was deceptive he said that he knows: "I spend all day explaining this to people." It turns out that there was no choice - we had to pay the price or not get a car. Moreover at the last minute other car agencies were charging as much or more.
Adding insult to injury, the windshield was dangerously dirty, and the car was not full of bad as they claimed - after just three miles the guage ticked down from full to 7/8 of a tank.
My advice: go to another company, read ALL the fine print, and call to see what the actual drive-away price will be.

BUDGET should close this location
Cons: THIS IS THE WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD AT A CAR RENTAL LOCATION. FOR THE HOUR AND A HALF THAT I WAITED IN LINE AND FINALLY GOT A CAR, ANY CAR, I SAW NEAR FIGHTS BREAK OUT WITH CUSTOMERS AND STAFF. NO ONE WAS HAPPY. THE SYSTEM IS NOT COMPUTERIZED. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO FILL ENDLESS FORMS AND GIVEN NO COPIES. THEN THEY INFORM YOU THAT YOU MUST PAY EXTRA FOR THEIR INSURANCE WHICH WAS $55 A DAY EXTRA. BUDGET IS DESTROYING THEIR CORPORATE NAME. I WILL NEVER USE BUDGET AGAIN AND I'M CERTAIN THAT ALL THE OTHER CUSTOMERS FEEL THE SAME. SHAME!

The quoted price is not the real price
Pros: convenient to the airport
Cons: they charged what appeared to be an arbitrary amount for insurance of $60 per day for coverage or $38 per day for limited coverage and said it was compulsory. Additionally, they said coverage from other sources would not work. Hence, the cost per day tripled from what was quoted on the website. In addition, the car had some damage, the tank was only half full and they suggested we tip them.

What a scam
Cons: Car advertised at $6 per day which was the first clue. I called Budget to see what the total price of the car was including just manditory insurance. Unbelievable- $360 per DAY !

Pros: Unfortunately there isn't much to like at this rental place.
Cons: The workers at the counter will raise prices knowing it's late and there isn't anything you can do about it. I would stay away if possible.

Cons: The Kayak price doesn't include tax or insurance. Insurance is mandatory and expensive and they taxed me 35%. So don't expect the unbelievable $6/day quote you are getting. It's more like $60/day.
Dollar had a very sleazy manager that kept lowering the price when he realized we weren't interested. They're exchange rate was also almost 20% worse than the normal rate everywhere else.
He lowered it to a price that was still too high and we ended up walking next door to Budget rent a car where the service was 10 times better and they were up front about everything.

Pros: Agency told me the reservation was cancelled and then made me pay 3 times amount of money to rent car. I had a reservation for $215.00 and then had to pay $346 more. The website is incorrect. the agency was horrible and treated me poorly. The agent at Dollar in Cabo San Lucas working in the office should be fired.
Cons: The agency had terrible customer service and the web site lied about the cost of the car. The car was clean, the drop off/return was very efficient.

Dollar in San Jose Del Cabo is a very bad deal

Pros: clean car
Cons: a car rental with Alamo at Cabo San Lucas Airport for 1/28/17.
We landed at the airport yesterday, In Los Cabos Mexico, and greeted appropriately at the airport by the Alamo people, and brought via shuttle a short distance to a center about 4 blocks away. We went in there were 2 total families in the van including us. We went into the Alamo rental area and were greeted nicely. We were talking to the rental person and he informed us of a mandatory liability insurance for damage to other cars, that is not included in the already purchased alliance insurance. He showed me in the hotwire small print that some international car rentals have mandatory insurance requirements that result in additional charges at the time of pick up. I also purchased the alliance insurance offered at the time of rental that has sufficed in the past when I have rented in Mexico.
My issue is that one of the people at the office then came in when we were discussing this charge of $220 for the insurance and asked if we were owners of The timeshare we are going to then the fee would be waived if we went to their timeshare at a different hotel. I am not sure how this works in general for an Alamo car rental agency but we felt the charge was now arbitrary and we ended up paying the additional $220 above our rental and the Alliance insurance. This is inappropriate and I do not think this is how a Alamo transaction and use of services is set up.
If this is typical I need to know so I am not subjected to this in the future and I will not use the services of Alamo.

Tried to steal from me.
Cons: We ended up not needing such a big car, so we asked for a smaller rental, going from a minivan to a standard. The representative refused to give us a price for the smaller car. He wouldn't call anyone, and he wouldn't check his books. The counter person did EVERYTHING to get us in the van, so he could take us to the off site rental agency, and then we would be trapped at his rental agency. He was a scammer, and an embarrassment to Dollar Rental Car. We went to the counter two stands over, and got an extremely fair price, and rented it on the spot. Again, Dollar cannot control their desk in Mexico. I am extremely unhappy with Dollar, and will bring this up to my corporate officer in charge of rentals.
Cons: The prices offered in internet are NOT real!!!! you end up paying 3 times more. The insurance cost is excessively high! Worst experience ever! At the end we got a taxi...if you book a taxi with your hotel it will cost half the price compared to the taxis at the airport.

Cons: What a complete bunch of lies. They promised me a weekly rental at $240, but when I arrived, I was required to have an additional $400 worth of insurance. I went with Thrifty because they are well known in The US, but they are obviously not paying attention to how their Cabo oporationot is treating their customers. I had no choice and had to continue with the rental. I had my two young daughters with me and I wasn't about to drag them around the airport looking for another rental car.
Then, to make it even sleezier, there is a time share company with an office there at Trifty that will pay your additional insurance charge on the car if you go sit through a two hour tours at one of their properties. I feel scammed.

Very rude staff
Pros: Very little to like.
Cons: They spoke poor English, which is understandable since it is not an a predominately English-speaking area. They took an extreme amount of time to get our paperwork filled out, and we got our keys almost 45 minutes after waiting in their hot lobby (not air conditioned well). When we returned our car, they pointed out damage on the car which we are certain was not our fault. We should taken pictures of the car at a full 360 degrees. We pointed out the damage when we picked up the car, but their employee did not mark it properly on their form. When we complained about this, their employees started becoming aggressive and very confrontational. We may have slightly raised the tone of our voices to indicate our disappointment/frustration, but they took it to another level and tried to make us feel like fools. If you are smart, please make the right decision and do not rent your car from this Thirfty location. The staff displayed terrible customer service. This may look like a deal, but it is just not worth the money or the headaches.

Cons: We showed up with a reservation costing us $141. They told us we'd have to purchase insurance there(we expected this due to Mexico law) with full insurance it was going to be $650. Too much. We asked about just liability, and they told us we could but it would be a $2000 hold on our card. After arguing with them, one guy leaned over and told us he'd be willing to work it out to be $371 if we gave him $60 in cash, which was obviously for him. Totally a scam, so we took our business somewhere else. We ended up with Budget and they were totally legit!

Cons: Car was tiny. It was clean and economical on gas but very small.
The Agency tried to charge $2500 on my credit card and when I refused they lowered it to $500 but raised the rate by $30. I expected to pay $20/day insurance over the $3/date rental but they charged over $30/day. I know it is the Mexican rip-off.

They said we damaged the car
Cons: We didn't damage the car, we missed a scratch on the orignals damage inspection. Then they charged us for it.
Pros: Found that pricing was misleading. What I thought was going to cost $25.00 per day ended up at $70.00 per day due to mandatory insurance which should have been shown at the outset.

Pros: The office was clean and the car was cheap.
Cons: The ACE representatives take a long time to check you in and out and it is very unclear what insurance options you need. I was under the impression that my credit card provided me insurance so declined all insurance despite the ACE representatives advising to get the full insurance coverage. Just to put it into perspective the rental was $50 without insurance and $200 with full insurance - so a 4x difference. On the highway back to return the rental car I got a flat tire which I fixed myself. When I returned the care the ACE representatives charged me $330 additional for the flat tire and dirt marks on the car. I had no choice to accept because they had a $2,500 deposit and I was late to catch my flight. I would not rent from ACE again.

Cons: I get the deal - give someone a very low price to rent a car - but then heavily pressure someone to buy what is very expensive insurance. I had my own - and even then was made to feel extremely uncomfortable.

Pros: Mini van was clean, and everything worked well on it.
Cons: The price given on Kayak for renting a mini van from Ace for a week in Cabo San Lucas was about $140. All other mini van rentals listed on Kayak were $400-$450 a week. When we got to Ace to pick up the mini van, they said that the $140 price doesn't include taxes, fees, etc, and those brought the price up to $424 for the week. So they ended up being the same price as the other car rental companies. It's a tricky way to get people to choose them.

Cons: A listed total cost of 250 cost us 530 because of fees charged upon arrival. That is over double the cost!!!then the car maxes noises and had a service light. My husband spent over an hour at local office in Adan Jose only to have employees refuse to swap car out! Be aware that although they tell you total cost in Cabo that in NOt true!!! Nothing you can do once there with three children:-(

Huge hidden costs
Cons: We rented a car for 10 days in Cabo Mexico. They refused to take our travel insurance or anything similar. They made us buy their insurance which is almost 2.5 times the cost of the car itself per day. Everything ended up costing 4 times more than we anticipated. This information was not available ANYWHERE when we booked the cars ahead of time. I feel scammed.

I got online reservation for like $30 for 4 days but knew that wouldn't be the real price with insurance. The liability only price was $148 and was lower than I expected so I asked to up the insurance to full insurance. It came out to $200 and they were nice to me and didn't even care that I was 1.5 hrs late returning it! Good experience

Pros: The price I saw on my online booking! $10/day for a 2016 Chevy Malibu!
Returning the car was quick and easy!
Cons: The ACTUAL price I had to pay when I arrived because Mexican law requires the purchase of some Mandatory 3rd-Party Liability insurance which added 200% to the price of my daily rental. An additional $20/day.
Customers should really be informed about this in advancen, as this can easily be taken into consideration during the online booking process.
Also, my Emerald Club number was not connected to my reservation and I really had to negotiate HARD with the agent to get them to add it to my account. Was there an option to do this during the reservation? I don't recall. As a frequent National/Emerald user this was disappointing.
Finally, clearing Mexican customs & immigration was less hassle, paperwork and time consuming than renting a car which I would have found hilarious if it wasn't so annoying. Would give 0 stars if I could!
Also, the shuttle bus from the terminal has back doors for a reason. The staff should f***ing use them instead of piling everyone in the side, then cramming the luggage in so all the passengers are stick inside. Let the people go in and out the back DUHHHH!!!
