Pros: NACons: We booked through Kayak and accidently booked the car in our home town in Minneapolis. I was unable to get a refund from Kayak so I tried to get a refund from SIXT. Even thought the mistake was discovered minutes after the reservation was made I had to pay for 3 days of the rental just to cancel. Probably wont use Kayak or SIXT again. Should have been an easy correction from Kayak or SIXT instead cost me $145.00 for nothing. Booked my rental car through Hertz

Pros: Car was great and clean.Cons: Pick up was a mess due to my planes arrival time. I arrived at 8:30pm the desk for Sixt Car Rental closed at 8:00PM. Had to rent a car from Budget for one night and picked up the car from Sixt the next day. This necessitated another trip to the airport. There were no apologies or any discounts for the rental even though it was a day less than planned.

Cons: This is a very wintry location. Running out of front wheel drive models is avoidable.
Cons: Drop off was closed for months. I called to days before to make sure it us open and that was confirmed. Unbelievable. And now I have to spend time to get my money back for unlawfully Charging me for Hertz terrible service.

Was told by airport info desk to just leave keys in car and I would receive an email after they check-in my rental.

Would use Enterprise againPros: It was a brand new car and it was just what I asked for. Due to a long distance drive I requested an all wheel or 4 wheel drive SUV and i was able to secure it with no hassle. It was a well equipped car and a super quick and easy check out at the desk. Well done Enterprise.

Cons: It was cold in Minnesota and when I turned the heat on the windows would cloud up. I had to continuously turn on the rear and front window heaters which would then shut off the heat. But it was alright, I did not freeze but it could have been a little more comfortable. I would rent from them again.

When I called about the extra $150 I was transferred around and around no one was able to help. I will definitely be using a different rental company next time.

A bit confusingPros: Car was nice. Clean. Price was good.Cons: Apparently MSP airport has 2 pickups for rental cars. We didn’t know this. I was told upon pickup that I was at the wrong place. They took care of me though. We dropped it off at the address listed on the agreement. It was at the other terminal. We had to hump our luggage on a train, through the other terminal and than a tram. We were in good shape and had time, so no worries. If neither of those things were true. It would’ve been tough. Better communication would help.

Outside help was badPros: Max at the desk was very helpful and should Be commended. The outside drop off was terrible! After he tried to charge me over $400 for a 129 rental and I had proof in two forms and just said no can’t help you or change it. I’m catching a plane. And don’t have time to argue. Then he got ticked off when I suggested a manager look at it. I went inside and Max handled it for me with a smile and no questions.

Couldn't have been much betterPros: I was very impressed by the Dollar staff at the Minneapolis airport. Very friendly and helpful. The pick up spot was hard to find being stuck way behind Hertz but it was well worth the effort. I used Dollar for the first time because of the low price but was delighted with the service. For sure I'll be using them the next time I travel.Cons: The car I rented had one minor flaw. It was difficult to keep the trunk shut. I had to slam it several times before it would catch. Fortunately I noticed the problem while still driving in the city and was able to pull over without a problem. I reported the problem when I returned the car and was assured it would be fixed.

Pros: For this occasion, it worked excellent for us. I picked the vehicle up and was delighted with it's performance and gas mileage. It's got the power to easily maneuver thru traffic and the comfort was great. (Keep in mind I was traveling with two guys who are easily 6'3" in height and all then of our baggage and suitcases .... Yeah, if it worked for us it ca work for you!)Cons: I picked this vehicle up from the airport at Terminal 2 in Mpls. I found the signage to get to the rental office difficult. Better signage would help a ton!! I think the problem is most customers are air travelers and if you are simply a local patron you do not get the signage direction that you would from inside the terminal. BTW: When returning a vehicle ... Holy Guacamole is that easy ... signage brings you right to the spot! More signage needs to direct you from outside of the car rental pickup!! Thanks for a great weekend!
8.0 Excellent21 Oct 2019

Almost Hassle Free RentalPros: The car was clean inside and had been washed on the outside. Inside the car rental, the procedure followed protocol and progressed relatively quickly. There was no hard sell on the need for their insurance. I especially liked that I could pick my own car within the prescribed row of automobiles.Cons: I presented the small scratches and tiny pits on the car that took me 30 minutes to inspect and catalog. The check-out representative said, "Oh, don't worry about those" as she walked around the car in 30 seconds. I demanded that my findings be documented on the contract. She did so at my insistence. She was not rude at all. Still, I know that if it is not written down, there is no legal credibility to "my word" when established corroboration is needed.

Cons: I booked this car because of the special on kayak and also because of the size that it would hold. It appeared to be a reasonable deal. When I went to pick up the car I was told by the thrifty agent that it was a very small car for "five small people and five small bags" It seems to me that the size of people and the size of bags should be a standardized unit to compare deals objectively. I was then up charged greatly for a car that would hold my luggage. My plan was to have it for 10 days. I returned it in two and was charged extra for ending the lease early, As I was moving from the UK to the US I felt held hostage by questionable business practice. I felt exhausted from long travel and cheated and that I had no options at the time. It would benefit you to know that I have since booked two other rental cars and I have not used thrifty or kayak.

Web booking very misleadingPros: Checking and out was very quickCons: When booking I booked the 'special' and it had a picture of a Nissan crossover. When checking in I was told I booked a sub-compact. So rather than drive a sardine can I did opt for a larger car. Then all these add on fees appeared. Insurance something, platinum road side assistance, etc. I'll be calling to get those reversed. Thrifty wasn't really thrifty at all.

We picked it up there, but they allowed for return to the airport and waived the additional fee which was extremely helpful on our return.Cons: The car had a perfumey smell that we couldn't get out and it really bothered us. Worst car rental of my life.Pros: The car was clean, although bigger than we wanted, got so so mileage, and seats were not that comfortable.Cons: The wait at checkout was over 30 minutes. I got a ticket because the car had expired plates. When I had to extend the rental due to airline issues, the automated system couldn't extend it, the first, second and third actual persons couldn't do it, and the fourth only did after calling someone else. This also took more than 30 minutes. They are trying to charge me more than $300 for the extra day, which is more than the original 5 day rental.

Pros: The service rep who helped me close out our account at the end was wonderful. I feel bad that he has to work in a place that seems to have so many screw ups.Cons: Waited in line at counter for 45 min to pick up. Had to go back to main desk to find anyone for drop off and discuss charge problem. I wasn't informed when I picked up the car at the airport that I was at the wrong location. I questioned the pick-up rep as to why the final price was $50 more than the quote. He said to call customer service later on. I did after leaving with car, they let me know I was charged $50 due to going to the wrong location. Had I been told that, we would have shuttled over to the correct pick up spot (very close to the airport). Rep at end helped sort it all out at the end.

Rent a car at the Minneapolis airport upon your arrival to get to your destination fast. It only takes a 20-minute drive into the city center and you can explore one of the “Twin Cities” of Minnesota at your own pace. If you want to explore surrounding areas like the Fort Snelling State Park, which is about 10 miles from the city center, or St. Paul, Minnesota’s capital, a hire car will get you out and about most efficiently.
Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has various car hire companies at your disposal. Travelers arriving at Terminal 1 Lindbergh should proceed to the second or third levels for car hire service desks. If landing at Terminal 2 Humphrey, go to the ground floor, where you will find the Ground Transport Center. Both terminals feature the same companies, including Hertz, National, and Avis.
Congestion and traffic jams are a regular issue in Minneapolis, especially during peak times (around 7-9 AM and 4-7 PM). To ease the congestion a little, traffic control agents are in place and it is pivotal to follow their orders and to only cross an intersection if you can make it all the way across without blocking the road. Also note that many streets in Minneapolis are one way, so be careful and watch out for the signs to avoid going in the wrong direction.
Winters in Minnesota can bring lots of snow, sleet, and ice, so be aware of that when traveling to Minneapolis during the colder months. The city is also known to be best equipped for dire weather conditions, but streets can still become narrower due to snow ploughs pushing the snow to both sides. At intersections, it may also be harder to see other vehicles around the corner when the snow is piled high, so proceed with caution at intersections.
