Pleasant, helpful staff Slowish service in the restaurant
Staff were pleasant and helpful Room spacious and facilities good Nice touch to have the magazines to read and the luxuries in the bathroom The lighting in the room was poor - one light inbetween the beds was totally inadequate if you wanted to read in bed - room too dark - an additional standard lamp would have been better. The website indicated that the hotel was near to the Aracde Car Park, giving the impression it was easy to park - in fact it was not. When we arrived the car park was full and we had to spend an age trying to find parking facilities and then walk with our luggage to the hotel. The price also for parking was ridiculous - our main objective during our stay was to drive away from Cambridge each day to stay out of the city as long as we could knowning that when we did return the cost of parking would be far too high. Not something we had bargained for.
The staff were all extremely pleasant and friendly. The room was very large and comfortable and the breakfast was yummy! It is the best possible location for a theatre break as Cambridge Arts and the Corn Exchange are both a very short walk away.
A very good hotel in most respects.Receptionists very good and helpful. â£15 to park a car is a little naughty. Staff 'waiting' at breakfast could be shown how to smile at customers, which creates a welcome atmosphere, and costs the hotel nothing (I may be being a little 'picky' on this!)
Very friendly staff Carpets require cleaning in the room. General decor needs refreshing, looks tired and slightly grubby.
Proximity to the event I was going to. Staff not great or particularily welcoming.
very nice staff, extremely good value for money
Lovely room , the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on in a hotel. Valet parking was excellent. Great location next to shops and restaraunts Nothing of note
The helpfulness of the staff at Reception was very high. I have an accident with my glasses and needed selotape and a pair of scissors. This was produced very quickly. Directions to a local restaurant was also quickly provided together with a large scale map. Quality of the breakfast can be better.
Staff were friendly and professional. Location was excellent. Extremely comfortable with excellent breakfast. Nothing
Hotel was fine but price was not. Friend booked the same room for £79 via Secret Room.com, you charged us £199 per night so we are very, very unhappy about that. The price.
The location is excellent. Very close to the city but away from the bustling crowd. The gardens looking out to the river is perfect for a summer wedding. The rooms are clean, comfortable and modern with generous supply of toiletries. The internet service is slow in the rooms and rather expensive.
It was a great central location. A comforatable hotel with leisure facilities. The staff on reception were a bit hit and miss with experience and reception was not always manned.
Very loud disco to midnight, we were not warned beforehand, so no chance of sleep after long journey. Not acceptable that we were not warned or offered alternative accommadation
Cambridge is an expensive location by any standards. The hotel in question was generally excellent the only cause for complaint, apart from price, was that breakfast was not included.Bar service could be a bit slow but staff were very friendly. Location was excellent in fact hard to beat in this location and it was worth paying extra for the river view. Lunch in the riverside restaurant was dissapointing but again if you want to relax with a glass of wine and watch the river go by the food will not be your principle concern. As stated above the fact that breakfast was not included for such an amount of money is a bit of a joke.
The location of the hotel was perfect and the comfort and amenities in the room were excellent. I would also rate the buffet breakfast very highly. This is a small point - the quality of the room service meal could have been a little better and the hotel is quite expensive. However, overall the stay was excellent and I really liked this hotel. For a lovely weekend stay in a great location by the river I would definitely recommend it.
Location, leisure facilities & overall ambience
Nice location; comfortable room with great view of river Hotel styling and feel are dated and plain; expensive internet
All user friendly, pleasant and helpful staff. Car Park charge
Efficient friendly staff, clean comfortable room with a river view. Very good breakfast. Only negative is paying a £17.50 parking cost which to be fair is made clear on the website, but a bit excessive I feel.
Impressive exterior to the building and well meaning staff The breakfast was hot well cook and hot plates so the food did not go cold No restaurant facilities in the evening - the only offerring was a bar menu of jacket potatoes, pasty or sandwiches. The 'chef' was stopping work at 8.00 pm presumably health and safety were worried about potential microwave overdose. No facilities, other than a bar which had no background music, no tv and no sky sports - all requirements for a business traveller, hence no customers. We popped in to the bar a 6.30 before going to a meeting and returned aat 9.15 - there had been no custom between those hours and there were no other clients until we left at 10.15 Breakfast was on long tables not separate tables and no table service
The room was lovely and the facilities within it were fabulous. The view over Cambridge was great Having to go outside for breakfast was odd. The lack of a hotel bar or place to meet was a bit strange too. I also think the staff serving breakfast seemed a bit amateurish. It wasn't very clear how things worked and no-one explained.
Excellent staff Excellent breakfast Poor design of room No parking No view
Good balcony .excellent aspect on a clear day No car park.not many tv channels.king room bed only 5 ft wide.I thought would be much wider
Excellent room and breakfast. A wider selection of drinks in the hotel lobby would have been good.
Excellent location close to historic centre of Cambrige with its famous colleges, Kings College Chapel and punting on the Cam. Breakfast room located outside the hotel itself, albeit in a building immediately adjacent. You still have to go outside to get to breakfast - annoying on cold, wet or snowy mornings.
Varied choice for breakfast with a pleasant view out onto the river cam. Conveniently situated for the Fitzwilliam, Kettles Yard and shops.
Great location, friendly staff, comfortable rooms. Lovely bathroom. Very enjoyable stay. The much trumpeted "excellent views" were a bit of a damp squib, though. We had a "Senior Fellows" room on the 2nd floor and had an excellent view directly into... the communal kitchen area of Jesus College's undergrad block, some ten yards opposite. The floor-to-ceiling glazing just left us feeling a bit exposed.
Very well located. Friendly staff Room was unreassonably hot.
Nice food, large room. No smoking, (understandable) No mobile phones, No laptops, in public places, No internet unless you have a pc from the nineties with a 52k modem for dial up!!! Not really suitable for the younger proffesional, great for the oldes.
Very conveniently placed for the city Reception staff weren't over friendly and a replacement hair dryer that was requested never arrived!
This hotel is like staying at a favourite auntie's house - it is homely and traditional. The rooms are comfortable and warm and the bathroom spotless and with fluffy towels. Continental breakfast and parking included in price which is good. It is very close to the town and university. The staff are friendly and helpful. Would have preferred a duvet rather than blankets.
Good Parking facilities, good range for the continental breakfast, location of hotel The room was small, it smelt rather badly - not sure of what. Croissants were hard at breakfast.
central the reception staff
Location very close to the centre of Cambridge Fire alarm went of Sunday morning and hotel was evacuated
Its location and the view from my window. Also a good size room for a single. Perhaps room service a little later.
Convenience for city.
Efficient, helpful staff
Excellent Hotel. The food was outstanding.
Very comfortable bed, incredibly spacious rooms, and lush bathroom. High tea was nice quality food, with plenty of refills when requested Stylish surroundings Luxury, boutique feel Accommodates for people with limited mobility Tea service in the room features real coffee, and fresh milk All in all a good experience for a British hotel, and would definitely stay again. The hotel is not in the centre, so getting to/from requires taxi rides Noise insulation was rather poor The hotel was hosting a party of 25+, and seemed full otherwise, so our afternoon tea felt a bit frenzied, as did the breakfast They ran out of some of the food at the breakfast and the tea Hire more staff and order more supplies if you've got a full house!
Very welcoming, comfortable and clean; efficiently run ; very good restaurant
Beds and rooms were comfortable. We were moved promptly to an alternative room when there was a problem with the plumbing in the initial room. Pillows too soft
Beautifully appointed new wing added to original building we felt welcome from the moment we arrived. Staff friendly and helpful, room well appointed and delicious food served in the restaurant.
Friendly, courteous staff at reception and in restaurant. Breakfast was basic, but actually quite good, particularly recommend the homemade granola! Room was a little cold, the heating is basically electric wall heaters, and not sure this was sufficient for the room. The bathroom also relied on the towel rail to warm it! Restaurnat a little pricey, although the food was very good! Located just a little bit too far to walk into town!
Relaxed pleasant atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff Difficulty in booking a table at a convenient time for us in the restaurant (on arrival). Would recommend others to book a table well in advance of stay. Food excellent though.
Food & peace Poor selection in mini bar
the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. the room was very comfortable and loved the fact that it had a cd player.
good setting and layout, comfortable bedroom, excellent bathroom charging for internet is bad customer relations given the price
Decent bed and linen Poor service, poor cooking, overpriced breakfast, chipped crockery, dirty carpets, ugly new buildings, view of carpark, need I go on......
Location, freindly staff, Room was too small, bathroom not big enough, having booked 4 rooms 2 couples outside in modern blocks and the other couple and us inside in 2 small rooms not ideal. room price for bed only for 4 couples we feel was exspensive. looking at the reviews if we had paid £30£-40 less per room like a lot of them we would have been a happier group and would all have stayed for breakfast.
The food was excellent, you have a very good chef who makes good use of local ingredients I always have trouble with being too hot at night with a duvet.
food bed single malt
convenient and friendly cooperative staff
Very pleasant setting and comfortable and clean accom. A good breakfast
The staff are curteous. The hotel atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. The standard twin room that I got was, in my opinion, slightly below in standard for the price.
Very friendly staff. Hope they are paid a decent wage!
Very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. "Off the beaten track" but not far from town
We stayed while there was a wedding on and unfortunately we couldn't enjoy a relaxing drink in the gardens as we felt that we were in the way and also there was not enough seating outside, so had to take our drinks back to the room. We had booked to eat in the restaurant in the evening but unfortunately there was a gas failure,we felt we were not dealt with in a very professional way.
Nice clean room and staff excellent.Lovely pool.Good selection in bar. Buses irregular pm to Cambridge.Taxi option expensive.
Discreet, quiet and private. Excellent bar and restaurant.
Bath Mat Shower Hooks / Curtain brown stained rust rings these are cheap to buy seemed a shame spoilt bathroom
A double bed for single occupancy The room was generally clean but they had missed dusting lamps and skirting boards - no tea on tray
Easy to find, Staff very nice, suited our purpose. Hard Bed
Extremely noisy; unfriendly front desk staff; small rooms with outdated furniture and electronic equipment. I left 2 hours after arriving because I tought the noise level was too high. The front desk staff didn't even ask me why I was leaving or if they can do anything to help me. They just took the key ( metal, bulky) cashed the check and said good bye.
Good facilities , steam room, sauna , hot tub & pool Nice firm mattress on bed Bathroom tiny and not the cleanest. Rooms and bathroom could do with updating. Pillows were rock hard Breakfast is way too expensive, nearly £20 each for a full English! ...not much cheaper for a continental one.
The breakfast was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful and the facilities were attractive The room was rather dimly lit and the double bed was rather firm and uncomfortable
fast service, good decor
I found the staff very helpful, nothing was too much for them. The parking was great all in all a very enjoyable stay. Will come again. Everything was spot on.
the staff were happy to help and the facilities were very good. the room was warm and comfortable
We were upgraded on the second night due to our complaints into a crown room. This just about reached 4 star standard. The receptionist who upgraded us was very friendly (the only member of the staff who was!) The hotel room we were given was a twin (we had requested a double). It was small shabby and the beds were extremely uncomfortable (broken springs and lumpy pillows). We couldn't be moved as there was no other room available, but were offered no apology or an offer to be moved the second night. The breakfast was average, the scrambled eggs runny and the service awful (we were seated, went up to get some food, came back and another couple had been put at our table - despite our bag and coat being there!). The dinner was also average. The 'gym' was dated and cramped and the changing rooms filthy.
The comfort of the bed, and the breakfast The view of the aircon units from the bedroom window, the fact that the room was chilled on entry on a cold and wet day - and heating took ages to work, the delay in being served tea in a chilly library , the failure to return my call to reserve a table in the bistro which meant we had to go out into the rain to find another restaurant
Service was excellent. Reception staff very accomodating. Restaurant first rate. The room was simple but beautifully presented. There were no glitches, flaws or loose fitting (rare in my limited experience of hotels). It could always be cheaper!
Convenient situation, friendly, efficient staff & excellent shower!
It is very difficult to find a clean and decent hotel room in Cambridge that is also quiet and serves good food. Hotel du Vin is the only one that is clean, quiet and has a decent restaurant.
Central location, good food and special Reception seemed unaware of active hotels agreed rates for b&b
central location, well appointed room, reasonable restaurant poor service in restaurant which was very busy on a Friday night and understaffed
Well located, near to city centre and train station. Nice room, good service. Difficulty in accessing the internet service from the room
Excellent breakfast - but had to pay on top of a high room rate. Exceptionally poor value for money. Plus the back of the hotel looks onto a 7 storey research labs.
Room was fantastic loved the bathroom facilities, drinks range very good, loved the cigar facilities, decor atmosphere very sexy and romantic. The garden area could have been better and the room was too hot for me .
One of the best hotels I've been in UK. Highly recommended.
It was a comfortable, clean, well-run hotel. The staff were efficient and prices for drinks and meals were reasonable. The breakfast woudl have been better with at least bacon being offered, just sausages and scrambled egg as a hot choice was limiting. It was a long way from the city centre.
The room was extremely clean and quiet, and the bed extremely comfortable. These for me are about the most important points in choosing a hotel. The exorbitant charge for the option of Internet access in the room. (Ridiculously expensive for something that costs virtually nothing.)
Could not find fault with anything.
The staff were exceptionally helpful with maps of the city and helping us to find places Nothing
Quiet location in walking distance of Cambridge. Staff were helpful and the room was clean and comfortable. Meals and drinks were expensive.
clean and quite comfortable Unfriendly staff and the basic breakfast in terms of presentation..... dislike the tray return system. At price paid, tables should have been cleared by staff. The hotel is not a student hostel !!!!
convenient for our needs & within our budget
Efficient reception, efficient restaurant, efficient check out.
Very nice hotel to stay. Staff were friendly, room was clean and large, breakfast was very good for choices
Easy to get to. For no reason at all, I was given a room with a disabled bathroom.
the breakfast was ok the bathroom was not clean
Place was ok. hdtv, Wi-Fi Availability, Bed was comfortable. Overall only superficial shortcomings, and "sort-off" value for money.Room was ok. Would have appreciated a bath to compliment the shower, place had a marked odour that was nevertheless not too unpleasant, many chanells did not work, Wi-Fi was advertised but only useful if you are with bt or Orange, which is useless if you are a visitor from abroad. Bed linen was never fitted properly. Overall only superficial shortcomings, and "sort- off" value for money, but I would look somewhere else next time. Receptionists very helpful. Nice to have tea/coffee making facility in room with biscuits!. Do not be conned into buying breakfast voucher you can choose what you want at the self-service which may be less than the voucher.
Nice big shower. Handy to A1 , Cambridge, and motorway services. No toiletries!!!! And no bathmat.
Clean, tidy and wonderful staff at a great location and ticked all boxes but one. This service station hotel is better than expectations and the modern frontage and easy carparking is a big plus. Being a service station means M&S and Smiths and food outlets just next door We missed having a restaurant for an evening meal otherwise this would have been perfect
Convenience , value for money , reasonably good condition of room , location next to services Being allocated a disabled persons room rather strange and bathroom took some getting used to over 3 nights. The corridors could do with a refit.I would like the ability to be able to plug a DVD player into the TV screen I note this was blocked off
I was on short business trip. I would not recommend it to a friend, I would to a professional collegue Budget hotel,
Room was nicely decorated, far better than holiday Inn Express or IBIS. Breakfast is available but on relatiely expensive at £9.95. (Contiental at £4.95). The prices are not really competitive with the various fast food places next door. If full English were offered for £4.95 (non-buffet) there would be more takers.
Price, service Bed comfortable but with a noisy mattress cover
Good value No issues
It was clean and we had a great large bed ,we had a evening meal which was. Really nice .the staff were very friendly all in all we would stay in this or may be another hotel again
Convenient to Cambridge City Centre. Breakfast was delightful. Owners are lovely people. Room on bottom floor was a bit warm (we went in mid-May), and there was no fan. There were windows that we opened, however, which cooled the room down at night. Operating the shower was a bit confusing.
very nice B&B w friendly staff
First of all I was impressed with the standard of the accomodation itself, I thought the rooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living room were all of a really high standard. The breakfast offered the widest selection I've ever been offered including full veggie, pancakes, smoked salmon, mackerel and kippers plus smoothies, croissants, toast, a full selection of teas, etc. We could also walk into town in 10 to 15 minutes across Jesus Green or taxis were easy to book and affordable shared between six.
The staff were very helpful and the room was very comfortable.
Excellent breakfast, pleasant owners
The room was really clean and staff very friendly. Excellent breakfast! Nothing
Very clean and comfortable with good breakfast
The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful and did everything they could to help us during our stay. The room was lovely and warm on a very cold night. Very good facilities and spotlessly clean. Overall excellent. None
Cleanliness of entire hotel- spotless everywhere. Lack of support of mattresses- could do with replacing.
Hot water and very comfortable bed. Poor cleanliness of bathroom. Rushed breakfast service...hot food brought whilst still eating cereal. Top end rate room asked for, their 'deluxe' room did not seem to warrant the extra money. First impression was a dark and outdated decor.
The staff were helpful and the free parking within a walking distance of the city was a real bonus
Clean, comfortable hotel. Good breakfast. No.
Close to the railway station. The room was very clean and quiet. Nice staff. The room was small to be called “de luxe” and the furniture was old.
Convenience to Town Centre
Breakfast was fantastic. Rooms are quaint and pleasant. Easy walk to downtown.
Friendly staff, promimity to rail station and city centre A little noise at night
Very friendly and attentive staff, excellent breakfast. not applicable, would certainly stay again.
Staff were very helpful Room was a little cramped and quite noisy
Staff were helpful and all appeared to enjoy their job The furniture in the public areas was looking a little threadbare, shabby and tired.
The room was excellent (I was upgraded) so was the bed and linen. The hotel food was dreadful
Reliable Holiday Inn standards. Friendly, helpful staff. Poor value of mediocre food in restaurant - however, no worse than most chain hotels
The spa and swimming pool were excellent, very relaxing I didn't like the fact that an extra 10% obligatory service charge was added to drinks and dinner, this was not made clear until payment was asked for and I felt I was being ripped off. Also we could hear the guests in the room next to us when they were only talking, not really conducive to a romantic break!
This is the second time I've stayed I like it because it's just far enough away from city centre which makes it peaceful, will go again next year if not before.
Good standard all round. I had a problem when checking in, no details of my booking on there computer system, gave them the hard copy I had from the internet booking, waited 15 minutes and they said ' We do have problems with internet bookings not showing up on our computer reservation '. Allicated my room then.
The hotel was efficient and in pleasant surroundings, and just off the A14
The swimming pool and the gym The room was quite old. The rate of the room: i found it too expensive and no with the quality I thought it would have
very lovely place to stay.
easy to find. easy to walk into cambridge. clean and helpful friendly staff buffet breakfast was a bit chaotic
Location, ease of parking, good reception rooms Lighting in bedroom (dreadfully dim), bedlights which did not match, bathroom lighting (same), washbasin which would not hold water. Trouser press which did not work, no written details of hotel facilities in room.
