When we arrived to pick up the car arranged for by Kayak the size of the car available at the lot was inadequate to economy as booked with kayak (we were offered minuscule Fiat Panda instead of reserved Peugeot 308 or equal). No other cars were available in the economy size on the lot. I was left to upgrade to a "40 euro/day" to DS3 compact SUV. The 40/day charge turned out to be 22.16 + 33.33 (stated as customer requested upgrade) + 20% tax. My final bill was 385.63 vs 185.65. The car was great with great mileage and features. The Fiat Panda would be unsafe and inapropriate for the mileage and speed we needed to be driving at. The transaction leaves me not overly impressed by KAYAK's coordination and guarantees of price and quality. Europe car staff was rude and untruthful. Car had damage on every body panel. When you refuse extra insurance they force you to sign a contract promising to pay nearly double the MSRP if the car if it is damaged. (Fiat 500 MSRP 17k insisted I sign to pay 30k USD)

The car assigned was missing a hubcap and had body damage from a previous rental. No after hours drop off instructions provided for destination, and dark desolate Eurocar drop off location in Grenoble. Due to miscreants loitering in the dark in the area, decided not to risk my life, and left tand incurred an add’l days rental to return following day.

The car was clean and spacious, but hard to find. Located in a remote parking lot and space. It was hard to navigate the distance w luggage. The car was different from what was promised: expected a hybrid car w GPS. It was neither. Contactless renting has its advantages. At the same time you need internet service every time you open and lock the car. We travelled to Lyon from a different continent and so this was an issue.
