Mercure Rouen Centre Cathedrale - Rouen - Building
1
8.4 Excellent (5,131 reviews)
AED 477+
Overview Reviews
Located in the center of Rouen near the train station, the fully renovated 4-star Mercure Rouen Centre Cathédrale hotel welcomes you to the heart of Normandy and the Seine Valley. Ideal for relaxing with the family or for cultural or business trips, the hotel is located in the peace and quiet of a pedestrian area, at the foot of Rouen Cathedral. It is close to a number of major tourist sites: the Historial Jeanne d'Arc, the Beaux Arts museum and even Panorama XXL, a unique location in France.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location perfect, good breakfast, staff friendly and helpful. Enjoyed our stay in beautiful city.
Cons: Parking area very narrow and difficult to manoeuvre around.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Nice staff
Cons: Bed was not comfortable.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good breakfast and great location
Cons: Thicker larger towels needed in bathroom. Would be nice to have some real milk for coffee and some breakfast tea available. Otherwise all fine
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at the 5 floor where the view on the city is amazing. But even without a view the location of hotel is very convenient, heart of center.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was really nice. Cozy atmosphere, good choice of various options. Good coffee.
4.0 Okay
Pros: The hotel is very central. Apart from that, unfortunately it was a disappointing stay.
Cons: Underground car park was secure. However you had to have a code to get into the pedestrianized area in the first place. I found out later the hotel had emailed this to me but not having access to email, the code was not received. Flustered I found a parking space and walked to hotel, first of all. I obviously was not the only one, another woman was there complaining of exactly the same problem! Once into the secure car park, disappointingly it was nearly full and, despite signs asking drivers with small cars to use small spaces, the large spaces were all taken by small cars! Our room was at an angle - the bathroom nearly as big as the bedroom! We had a window that overlooked what could only be described as an alley with properties opposite us looking directly in. Woken in the small hours by shouting. Didnt realise the hotel did not have a restaurant, they only did breakfasts. We didn't stay for breakfast as considered it expensive. Would we stay again, definitely not. Shame because Rouen was nice.

7.4 Good
Pros: It was right for 4 adults but generally acceptablr
Cons: There are openings in the swinging doors to the shower area that created a problem with privacy. We had two teenage girls and two men.
7.0 Good
Pros: The size of the room is great. We stayed with my daughter and there is a separation within the room. The car park has an direct access to the hotel elevators.
Cons: The room was a non-smoking room but there's a smell of cigarettes. Nobody in the reception asked us if we were happy about our stay.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was very spacious, I wasn’t expecting it to be
Cons: Nil
9.0 Excellent
Cons: Water in bath
7.0 Good
Pros: Good location.
Cons: Paid parking
3.1 Mediocre
Pros: Very little. This is only slightly above IBIS in quality and had several of the same design items in the rooms as IBIS Budget.
Cons: The profile says "parking" - in reality the hotel only has 20 spaces, and those are almost always full we were told. The counter staff told us and the next three customers who showed up while we were checking in "find your own space on the street" -- which in Rouen is both very hard, and far to likely to have your morning start with a new dent in the car. The room we were given was 1/2 the size of the photo. Really amazing how it looked sort of the same layout...but was so cramped we couldn't move around. The bed's weren't the same size as in the profile. When we showed the counter manager the photo and description differences with the promised room and the reality, the response was "I don't write what is on the websites, so can't help you." Very much a vacation fail.
7.0 Good
Pros: Quiet room
Cons: The coffee machine didn’t work properly
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good family room Friendly staff Good breskfast
Cons: All good

Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Hospitality, parking next to the hotel and 5min walking from centre.
Cons: Prefer a shower than a showerhead in bath with curtain.
7.9 Good
Pros: Location and friendly receptionist
Cons: The shower flooded the floor in room 101. We informed reception but nothing was changed. This was a room for a wheelchair user. Very disappointing.
6.0 Good
Pros: The location was ideal!
Cons: The fire alarm was plugged with toilet papers. The room was smaller than expected.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location next to a main road although central as we wanted to visit Christmas market we arrived at midnight from Disney . 24 hour desk which was great and very welcoming but the hotel was maybe undergoing some work as a big container in car park . Ladies/ men of the night a little disconcerting loitering under the road bridge where we had to park free which was a bonus but they caused no problem . The hotel was welcoming and on the whole clean but our bathroom needed a little TLC paintwork, tile grouting, bath Sealant. But complimentary shower gel nice . Bed quite comfy and complimentary refreshments a nice touch. A few slamming doors woke us up but that’s not the hotel fault.
Cons: Bathroom needed TLC Location not great on main road ladies/ men of the night loitering
7.0 Good
Pros: It was very easy to book, even last minute. Staff was very friendly. The room was super clean and comfortable.
Cons: It's located by a busy road so it is quite noisy even in the middle of the night.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent and the staff were very good - all spoke English which was helpful.
Cons: Room as quite small and there was a lack of storage facilities. Car parking was scary but would have been ok for a small vehicle.
7.0 Good
Pros: Location was very central to the old town and right beside great restaurants if you like fine dinning. The room was nice and comfortable.
Cons: I have to say, one of the woman on the day of our check in [10th Feb] at the desk was really terrible. I travel a lot and I never had a bad word to say about staff but my god she had such an awful attitude that I was waiting for this review to come in. There were two females working but the one that finished around 12.30am is who I am referring to. I have never encountered such a bad attitude. She would not greet you, just grunted, when you asked her a simply question it was like "how dare you ask me" "stop bothering me" kind of reception from her. Really really surprised they have someone like this on the front desk. [She lets your hotel down in a BIG way] Also if driving you will not find how to get here on google maps. You have to get directions from the hotel directly and that brings you to a street and then you have to navigate it from there and put a pin in to get access into the pedestrian area. I rang earlier that day about parking so not sure why this was kept as a surprise. You have to drive into a small lift and go down a level. Thankfully I had rented a small car but I wouldn't risk it in a big one, based on the scrap marks on the wall.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was fantastic; hotel had a lovely atmosphere and really excellent staff, helpful over and above what I have experienced elsewhere!.
Cons: The room was a teeny bit small and we would have loved a bath! However the bathroom was very comfortable otherwise.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very helpful. The hotel was clean, beds were soft, breakfast was very good.
Cons: We rented a car and the roads were a little tricky. But that’s not the hotels fault it’s a very old city not meant for cars.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very helpful staff. The location was fantastic. Could walk to everything and great local restaurants and coffee shops just around the corner. On the weekend the market is just around the corner as well.
7.5 Good
Pros: Extremely well located, cozy...
Cons: Dirty curtains in the room

7.5 Good
Pros: Comfortable, location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Hotel is in an excellent position and easy to walk to the centre. There was free parking around the hotel and plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes, bars.
Cons: Building work going on, which was a shame. A bit dusty and unsightly on higher levels. Reception area was very nice.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: the room was clean and the beds were very comfortable , the breakfast was fresh and substantial with excellent coffee.
Cons: there were NO disabled facilities, not even in the attached shopping mall , there were plenty of signs, but nothing at the end of them.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast (baked goods were excellent quality), nice location close to restaurants, groceries, mall and main sights. Very helpful staff, awesome water pressure in shower, great WiFi.
Cons: A lot of church bells going on from 7 AM, every 15 minutes, and there's a good bit of street noise too. The mattresses are a bit too hard/thin. Room too warm.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The staff were very helpful and friendly by providing a map to navigate to the parking areas and making us feel welcome.. The restaurant was good with a good choice of meals at reasonable prices.
Cons: We were arriving by car and the directions were poor as the area has recently been pedestrianised. For example the B&B logo was mounted high up on the 6th storey. Not very helpful for motorists trying to find their hotel at street level. The car parking was a complicated journey away.
6.7 Good
Pros: I liked the breakfast and the room was sufficient.
Cons: I didn’t like the location. It took a long time to find and it was noisy.

Overview Reviews

3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The receptionist was very pleasant
Cons: Hotel is dirty and shabby/ run down. The sheets and towels were clean though. Staff seem to be doing their best. Also smelled of smoke in the foyer. Put off having breakfast. Toilet smelled of urine. Door handle broken and could poke you in the eye.
5.0 Okay
Pros: location, low price, quaint atmosphere
6.0 Good
Pros: The man doing the check in was friendly and offered us a different room when we asked (we were offered at first a room which stank like cigarettes). The hotel was quiet at night. The hotel is very well located within walking distance to all the tourist attractions in Rouen. The hotel gave us a big disccount (from 18 to 10) in the parking nearby (two minutes walking).
Cons: Initially we were given a room with unbearable cigarette smell. We were told that there was another room available but the basin did not work, we had to use the basin in a common bathroom which was not clean at all. I think this hotel is quite outdated and has not been renovated in years. The handrail of the stairs was shaking, the room was stuffy and the bathroom not well cleaned. On top of this the wifi was pretty bad. For this money, I would recommend going to another hotel. I would recommend the owners to paint, renovate the carpets, give the rooms a good clean and fix broken furniture (our wardrobe did not close) in order to make this hotel future proof. I think the owners should invest a bit in the hotel and it could be a great hotel, perfectly located but at the moment it is far from great.

2.0 Mediocre
Pros: Clean room. Comfy and clean bed. Small bathroom but clean and recently upgraded.. Quite close for a walk into town.
Cons: There was no parking available. I was told I should have reserved a space when I booked. Had to park on the public road 300 mtrs away from hotel. At around 11.30pm there was a commotion in the hallway and the room next door, the guy had been locked out by his partner and was banging on the door and shouting for over 30 minutes. I had to ask him to stop. At 3.10 am he started again. The hotel staff did nothing.... Annoyed!! Stayed here 4 times before but will not stay here again.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: 5 min to center and supermarket. 30 min from train station. Nice location

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good value for money, 10 mon wall to old town with good choice of bars/eateries. Would definitely stay again
Cons: Shower cubicle very small, but this is being over-picky... does the job adequately and is modern and clean
5.8 Okay
Pros: The location very close to the center.
Cons: I didn't like the bathroom, is very small. The space to have shower is horrible not fit an obese person.

7.0 Good
Pros: Comfortable room and great shower but the room was too hot.
Cons: Staff Smoking at the entrance.
4.0 Okay
Pros: The staff were very helpful and friendly and the location was good.
Cons: We chose this hotel because it advertised that it had a restaurant. However, the restaurant is not open at weekends, which meant fighting our way across a busy main road, and a railway line in the middle of storm Dennis, in the pouring rain to the only other eatery that wasn't a 15 minute walk away, which turned out to be a sports bar which sold burgers. Not a nice evening. On that basis alone we would not return to this hotel.
5.0 Okay
Pros: It's close to the centre. Pleasant staff. Nice reception area.
Cons: Rooms tired. Beds need replacing now. We stayed at this hotel in 2015 and the bed was lovely then. Toppers have gone flat so not comfy. Pillows too soft. All ready for redecorating now everything was the same as in 2015. Very dark colours. .No tea making facilities .
7.0 Good
Pros: Staff were very polite, I had requested gluten free bread for the breakfast and got three little rolls that were lovely.
Cons: The beds were a little hard, and brits will be disappointed not to see no kettle/tea in the room but we expected it.
7.9 Good
Pros: Clean, comfortable stay, safe enclosed parking, close to centre for some wonderful restaurants
Cons: All good

Cons: The shower / bathroom were rediculously small ... like a portable toilet on a building / construction site -
5.1 Okay
Pros: Good location--very close to Gare. Clean. Quiet room on 2eme stage.
Cons: 30"-wide bathroom required my entering through door and to the shower sideways. No tissues. NO warm water. Was not able to connect to Wifi--wonder if any client ever has been able to do so. Shabby room w/ripped-up lamp shade. Towels were stiff & scratchy. Toilet continues flushing for several minutes. Someone needs to remind the night mgr. it's a non-smoking hotel. When I asked about moving to another room with hot water, mgr. told me hotel was complet, which I do not believe.

7.4 Good
Pros: It was right for 4 adults but generally acceptablr
Cons: There are openings in the swinging doors to the shower area that created a problem with privacy. We had two teenage girls and two men.
7.0 Good
Pros: The size of the room is great. We stayed with my daughter and there is a separation within the room. The car park has an direct access to the hotel elevators.
Cons: The room was a non-smoking room but there's a smell of cigarettes. Nobody in the reception asked us if we were happy about our stay.

7.0 Good
Pros: Good location.

7.0 Good
Pros: Personel was very friendly and welcoming. The valet parking was ideal:No issues in finding a parking place. Room was neat and tidy. Romantic place to stay in an historic surrounding. Breakfast buffet was delicious and lots of choice.
Cons: A few little things but shouldnot occur in a 5 star hotel: Our luggage was delivered in our room, together with a bag which wasn’t ours...can happen. We asked for a soft boiled egg at breakfast, asked twice for it, but still did not receive it after almost one hour,so we left without. Price of room too high for what you get.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Charm & elegance of hotel outside and inside
Cons: Bar prices
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A wonderful touch of luxury. The rooms were generous in size and very comfortable. The location was fantastic and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: Location and building.
Cons: Everything from Staff, spa, waiting time.
1.0 Poor
Pros: The location
Cons: Extremely noisy ventilation that can’t be turned off. Didn’t sleep a minute all night. The Spa area is too small for the size of the hotel and it was way to crowded and really unpleasant. The view from the sauna is towards the treadmills which absolutely unacceptable for a five star hotel. The sauna is tiny too, we had to wait turns. One of the worst traveling experiences we have ever had. 280€ for a tiny room with a ventilation sounding like a broken car engine and a spa we couldn’t use is outrageous. We’re never staying there again and I don’t recommend it to anyone!!

9.0 Excellent
Pros: location was the best thing about this hotel. room was clean, the bare minimum inside.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great central location. Friendly helpful staff. Excellent parking nearby. This is a budget hotel with a budget price but great value for money. The room was a bit on the small side but this should be expected given the location. Room was fresh and well decorated with a well upholstered bed. Furniture in the room decoratively a little tired as was the bathroom fittings but everything functioned as required.
Cons: As stated above only improvement could be is the room furniture and bathroom fixtures but these did impact on our stay.
7.5 Good
Pros: Close to the centre. Paid Parking in the neighbourhood, although very smudgy.
Cons: Internet connection (bandwidth) is terrible. It would be more honest to anounce that there is no WiFi.
7.0 Good
Pros: the wonderful and helpful staff
Cons: rooms were small and had little distinction

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The host can speak Chinese and also gave me many great advice to go, though I came in 31st Dec, when all shops were closed and really had no where to go. The next morning I failed to call a uber, and the guy in the front desk helped me, without saying English. Thanks to goole translate.
Cons: The couple who lived in other room made such big noise preventing me to have a sleep.
7.0 Good
Pros: Check in was easy; hotel staff friendly. Rooms are small, but comfortable and clean. Hotel location to Rouen city center is great. Overall we had a very nice stay.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: central location , staff brilliant and so helpful , parking on site
Cons: in the middle of refurb
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location is perfect for shops, bars, restaurants & a lovely view over the river.
Cons: The hotel seem quite dated & tired but the worst bit was no curtains over the patio doors!! Woken up at 5am by daylight streaming straight in... curtain pole still there.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The receptionist was really kind and friendly and she new how to speak in English!!!
Cons: Breakfast is really expensive for the quality and the quantity they offer. Bed was very uncomfortable and squeaky.
4.2 Okay
Pros: The receptionist called Charlotte - a charming, efficient young lady with a good command of English; she recommended 2 restaurants (le Bistro d'Arthur and another). Went to both twice, either at lunchtime or evening and were very satisfied each time The proximity to the sights - Cathedral Notre Dame, the church of Joanne of Arc, Church of St. Maclou, Horloge
Cons: Everything could be better!!! The bedroom we had, the ambiance in the hotel (there were many young people milling around behind the reception, we didn't know whether they were all staying at the property or visiting those that were or visiting the family of the proprietor...), the decor...
5.4 Okay
Pros: We had a room overlooking the Seine but there were no curtains! Nice balcony. Comfortable, clean, bed. Reasonably quiet but is on a busy road. Reasonably clean although there were pockets of dusts in the corners.
Cons: No curtains in the room (even though there was no vis-a-vis we wanted to block the streetlights and the sun in the morning), no soap in the bathroom even after we asked but were only given a few flimsy packets.
6.3 Good
Pros: Good, clean bed and towels. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location for Rouen centre, the cathedral and other sights.
Cons: Partly unhinged door of clothes cupboard, partly loose plints and stripes in bathroom and room, missing curtains. Lacking airconditioning will be missed in summer. Little storage room for clothing and few coat hangers.
