KEX Hostel Reykjavik is a place where travelers can come together in the center of Iceland’s capital. Offering a wide array of activities and services in a renovated biscuit factory, KEX has something for everyone.
KEX was repurposed as downtown Reykjavik’s social hostel in 2011. The hostel provides space for up to 215 people. Guests can choose between dorms and rooms. Dorms provide cozy bunks and lockers, while single, double, and twin rooms offer added privacy. For guests who want a more lavish stay, Double Rooms Plus present additional comforts of breakfast and a private restroom.
KEX offers a variety of experiences for guests to enjoy. Within the hostel is a retro-styled boxing gym, movie screenings, a barber shop, and a heated patio for sightseeing. Guests can eat and drink at the hostel’s gastropub, Saemundur I Sparifotunum. At this spot, the menu varies based on time of day and offers everything from brunch to dinner options. Guests can also choose to cook their own meals in the guest kitchens.
KEX Hostel Reykjavik offers a range of adventures for guests to take part in. Through their service, Kexland, guests can choose guided tours around Iceland, such as a jeep tour to view the northern lights.
KEX Hostel Reykjavik is a short 5-minute walk from the Barónsstígur bus station. Guests looking to drive can walk to the Procar auto rental agency, which is located just one minute away. Due to its centralized location, guests don't have to travel far to experience local attractions. Mount Esja can be viewed across the bay. Other nearby attractions include the National Museum of Iceland, Hallgrimskirkja cathedral, National Theatre of Iceland, and the Living Art Museum.

A bit small in the room department for privates, but I instantly fell in love with this place. The vibe to meet fellow travelers is unmatched - exactly what I look for in a hostel! Definitely coming back
Pros (+) Great location, huge facility with a lot of group/private rooms, awesome common areas and a big bar/restaurant area that is popular with locals and travelers alike.
Pros (+) Kex is a social hub so there’s always something going on in the bar and restaurant area
Pros (+) Great place, friendly staff, and tons of character. The bar and food are so good that locals and other visitors from the area will visit even if they're not staying at the hostel. Location could not be better. Within 2-10 minute walk of Laugavegur (one of the main shopping and dining areas), Harpa, and convenience stores (e.g. 10-11). Highly recommended.
Cons (-) Walls were a little thin, but it's a hostel so I didn't go into the experience expecting a quiet evening alone.
