I have been there many times and know the city well. Summer driving there is fine except for construction (as everywhere). There is now a gas station at the airport for easy refills on your return. You can often get cars much cheaper at off-airport sites though.

Winter tires are essential in Winnipeg, not due to deep snow but rather due to packed ice on roadways. You need the winter compound tires for the grip as many 4 way stops are icy and you will slide. So leave lots of room between cars ( Had the anti lock brakes kick in on several occasion even at very low speeds)

I mistakenly booked my rental car 16km from the airport, instead of at the airport - I ended up saving money and loved the fact there were no line ups at this Dollar location. Calling a cab for pickup/drop off to the airport was quick and easy. The Dollar on Munroe Ave is also conveniently located near a Sobeys plaza and Shell gas station which was great for my road trip.

There is a lot of construction in town on major routes so look ahead and plan time accordingly to arrive at your destination. Gas is around $1.65 a litre mid august 2023. The ring roads around the city help with traffic. Winnipeg is a well designed for vehicles.

Well I drove a truck for 35 years and am semi retired now the light system you have there in Winnipeg is ridiculous but you can’t change that I think it’s setup to have less accidents . Waiting forever to make left turns and it’s red with many opportunities to make the turn but you can’t Your construction Zone areas with 1 foot deep areas are not well barricaded I’m sure a few vehicles have driven in them Your cold winters are why your roads have bulges and bumps don’t think much can be done about that all in all not too bad

I do not know who's fault it is but they called me the day after booking to tell me they did not have any cars. It sounds like this was kayaks fault but I do not know and it is not my problem. They do have other locations but they had not checked if any of the other ones had cars available for me. Had to pay surcharge prices from another place to get on the trip

They keep trying to sneak in the fuel charge. Their pick-up inspection says one thing, their final report says another, they're nickel and diming their customers, and it's fraud. Most people wouldn't even notice, which they're counting on. But they're phone support even has a specific "fuel charge" redirection... that tells you everything you need to know.

Well got charged $70 for a car seat which I pretty sure I read was included. Lady tried to upsell me 3 separate times with completely false information and downright lied to me so that kinda pissed me off. Says gas is cheaper with them when it wasn’t ever cheaper

The clown working in west Edmonton tried accusing me of scratching the car, which I did not and was later proven. He just wanted to try and give me a hard time. Funny because when my Uber driver picked me up he told me it’s not the first time he had heard complaints about that very same guy

Nice vehicle. Had requested winter tires on website, (with no indication of extra charge) but on pickup was told not available with that vehicle and $20 per day more!!! Also, when returning, I had just filled the car. but Avis / Fords automated check in system just added $34 dollar fueling charge......the counter refunded that amount and blamed Ford for always showing "not full"

Pros:

The young lady who assisted me was very helpful. I wanted to leave my Jeep behind while I rented a 1/2 ton for about 8 hours and she helped me telling me where would be safe for me to leave it and made it easy to understand everything in the rental agreement. She made the experience much more pleasant than other rental agencies I've used in the past.

Cons:

If there was 1 thing, it would be the gas filling. I never like to go by someone else's word that the tank is full when it's returned by another client. I fill the tank completely, and I know people who don't. If there wasn't such a penalty for returning it full then it would be better if someone took it to a gas station and filled it immediately upon return. I wasn't more than a few miles from the rental agency, and the gauge had already moved beneath the full line. It was not filled like I did.
