Pros: Car was OK. Small, noisy, but it got me where I wanted and returned me safely.
Cons: Picking up the car was awful. ACE is apparently just a "portal" for other local car rentals, something that is not made clear up front. There was absolutely no information about ACE at Catania airport, no signs, no nothing. We had to ask other rental companies about ACE, who then directed us towards GOLDCAR, which is apparantly whom ACE subcontracts with. Then finding GOLDCAR was another adventure. No signs until you actually trip over the place about 500m from the airport. Then the fun begins. I had booked this car over KAYAK, and paid with my credit card and bought insurance, assuming this was with ACE. Apparently not. It was through Alliance, who had send me the contract. Which GOLDCAR insisted they did not accept. I had to pay once again for both, the car and the insurance, as well as a 150Eu "deposit" to insure a fuel fillup. Well, the gas gauge was faulty. When I picked it up, it showed slightly less than a full tank. When I returned it after filling it to the brim, it still showed slightly less than a full tank. Returning the car was yet another adventure. There are barely any signs, and when you do find it after wandering in the wilderness for half an hour, it took yet another twenty minutes to find the GOLDCAR attendent to receive it. Once this was done it was fairly smooth. But, given the faulty tank, he said that he would hold on to the 150Eu deposit until GOLDCAR could confirm that that tank was indeed full. So I have no idea how much this car rental will end up costing me. But certainly many multiples above what I thought I was going to pay for it. Which, if so, would be an absolute scam.
I am not likely to rent cars through Kayak again - and certainly not through ACE - although I always purchase my air tickets through Kayak - they are great at this.

Sicily rental at Syracuse. Do not rent from Ace.
Pros: Decent rate but for just a few dollars more you can get a better car and service from many other agencies.
Cons: Know signage for Ace. It's actually Gold rental car with a rye up for Ace. Wasted 2 hrs to search for Ace/gold. Even gold employee did not know about Ace tie up. Sleezey counterperson tried very hard sell for insurance $40 day vs $30 for rental. They try to make profit off damages. Car was same class but not same car. Not Opel, Citroen was terrible..

Couldn't find company and would not rent to us!
Cons: The car rental company was actually under a different name, so we spent over an hour looking for a company that didn't exist. After being on hold long distance, we located the company by a different name. Then the company wouldn't rent to us as we didn't have an international drivers license. Incredibly poor!
Pros: The staff in the car park where more accommodating and helpful than the staff at front desk.
Cons: The sales pitch that goes on even after booking for extra insurance meant a simple pick up lasted almost an hour. The impression that I would have to cover the first 800 Euro's, even though I had requested extra insurance, the statement that I would still be charged for paperwork, and that I should invest in extra insurances.
They also did not offer any flexibility in the drop off time.

2 hours to get the car!
Pros: We did an upgrade to an Audi A3 cabrio. Excellent car!
Giving the car back after was very fast and simple. Quick inspection and handed the key back. took less than 7 minutes!
Cons: We had to wait 2 hours from when we arrived at the Europecar to finally get the car. The car they first wanted to give us had extremely wet seats like someone left eh roof opened while it rained for a long time. They said it would take 30 mins to change to another car as they needed to wash it, fill it with fuel. We got the car and it was night time so we couldn't really see. But the next morning we realised the car was very dirty, not washed at all. I took some photos and sent them an email. Never got a reply. We also had a problem with the roof and tried to call them once and was on hold for 30 mins and no-one answered.

Pros: It was nice to have a Wifi option, could be a bit less expensive however.staff was corteous and efficient.
Cons: Lower cost options for the WiFi accessory would be nice, however a convenient option for sure.
Cons: You show me a picture with sedan (with small letters you write smart four for) but I got an Yaris.

Cons: Having rented many cars in the US, this was by far the slowest and overly complicated experience. It took over an hour and a half from arriving at the desk to finally receive car. They would only let the person who's name is on the reservation be the primary driver and pay for the car. Once I explained I made the reservation for my father who was standing with me with a valid driver's license and I would not be driving, they finally added him as a secondary driver for a $250 euro fee (which we got down to $125 and just accepted because we just wanted to get out of there). She kept taking the time to upsell us and not tell us the price impact until asked. Overall, it was just an extremely painful and slow process to just receive a car I had reserved weeks prior. I will not be returning or recommending Budget for future car rental needs in Catania.
Cons: I made a reservation with Goldcar because they came up on Kayak as the cheapest option. Soon after arriving at the front desk in Catania, Sicily, I understood why: their business model is to make up for a low initial quote with additional charges. Their first step is to relentlessly push for you to buy extra insurance covering damages, which would have double the initial cost. The lady at the counter could not stop insisting on how crucial it was for me to buy this extra insurance, 'because you know, things here do happen -it's particularly bad to go around with a car in Sicily...'. If you arrive at the pick-up station without additional insurance, they move to step two: your car will be found with scratches and you will be charged extra. When I arrived, I found a guy returning his car who was extremely frustrated, staring at his car and shaking his head in disbelief. A Goldcar employee insisted that there were scratches on the front of the car, however, I could not possibly detect any. A supervisor called for verification only reinforced the claim. It was a surreal situation: four people staring at the car, with the employee filling up forms and charging the renter 250 Euro for a phantom damage that no picture could possibly document. I offered the renter to be a witness in future court proceedings. Only then the employee relented and dropped the case, but at that point, I was very worry about my own rental. I was given a paper recording no scratches on my car, so i spent the next 30 minutes scrutinising the car and found a few faint traces that no doubt would have turned into charges. Then I spent the rest of the holiday worrying about the moment I would return the car. Never again.
