Located in the heart of Rochester, this hotel is within 1 mi (2 km) of University of Minnesota-Rochester and Mayo Clinic. Shops University Square and Rochester Civic Theater are also within 10 minutes.
Wouldn't recommend Pros: LocationCons: Rooms dirty, outdated, and rock hard bed. There's nothing "Grand" about this hotel
Nice hotelPros: Beds comfortable
Pros: Friendly staffCons: Very small rooms, extremely old plumbing in the bathrooms in fact the hot water would never come out of shower head.
Great value!Pros: LOCATION TO MAYO!Cons: temperature control
ClassyPros: It's very classic and vintage. If you've seen a Wes Anderson movie you get the idea. Cons: My room had a flat screen television. Which totally did not fit the decor of the room. I would have given a 5 star review had the TV been of a tube type with rabbit ears. I would have given 6 stars had it had a rotary dial to change channels requiring me to get out of bed to flip stations. The push button dial phone also added a "tackiness" to the room that I just couldn't shake off during my stay. Perhaps a rotary phone would have alleviated my disappointment. If these issues could be resolved it might end up being a respectable establishment.
"Projects Hotel"Pros: swimming pool Cons: poor access to check in
poorly marked access to parking
have to pay to park
parking gate operators not functioning ( big inconvenience)
Room floors were dirty, bathroom floors/ fixtures were dirty, cracked/broken tiles in floor and walls
Bathroom fixtures were old , leaky faucets, flickering lights were poor needed bulb/maintenance/replacing.
Room service cart was in the hallway with dirty dishes on it from the time we arrived and was "still there when we left" a day later.
very "run down" appearance.
I would not recommend someone staying there.
I feel I should be compensated for this stay
Great AccommodationPros: Everything! Our second stay in less than a month. Great location, friendly staff and comfortable.
Dirty roomPros: Close to doctors appointmentCons: Close to doctors appointment
Pros: Location excellent, did not have to go outside in the cold to get to the civic center. King sized bed was very comfortable. I had economy king room which was very reasonably priced compared to other hotels in the area. And the room was adequate size. Cons: Bathroom was very small. It was hard to adjust the water temperature in the shower, it kept getting hotter or colder. Parking too expensive.
Needs renovation Pros: It's a great location if you are going to the Mayor Clinic. Cons: The rooms are very dated. They have no connected rooms. They did have some updated rooms for $75 more per night. The "Grand " in their name only represents their location, definitely not their room conditions.
Not bad not greatPros: It had a very nice pool, workout room very nice, clean hotel, staff was excellent, shower head was really low and asked if they had something taller and the accommodated me immediately. For some bookings they offer 5 dollars off a day if you don't do room service. Very nice. Cons: There was restaurant staff that was very rude sometimes even ignoring you while waiting for a table. (Most were nice). Old outdated hotel. Economy room has no microwave. You pay to be super close to Mayo gonda building not for amenities.
The history of a name does not guarantee a comforPros: I like the accessibility to Mayo Clinic & Methodist HospitalCons: Older, uncomfortable beds, plumbing (rubber stopper for sink) outdated windows and their treatments.
