Newport hotels near Redwood Library and Athenaeum

Cons: Broken Toilet, when we called downstairs to let them know, got the impression they already knew there was an issue. They did send someone right away, but wish it was taken care of before getting to our room. That night after returning from dinner 9 p.m. the guest in the next room BANGED AND SHOUTED for us to be quiet - we were laughing - no TV on no music on just enjoying our view and relaxing - did NOT feel comfortable at this persons Anger! We were able to change rooms but at the front desk did get a little push back on - if they could get us a room with a view...I told them we were not loud and that HE was the problem she then stated ours was the second complaint from him - regarding a different guest...and she said how they had plans in the work to fix the soundproofing issues with the whole complex. Following night after dinner we returned and decided to go to the bar for a nightcap we got a high top table but went over to the bartender to place our drink order she seemed put out definitely not pleasant.

Cons: They charged for Valet when I didn't use Valet.

Cons: Hotel front desk seemed overwhelmed and a bit immature. Made promises could not and did not keep. Conceriege lounge was average -- staff not very attentive in there. Food and liquor would run out and go unnoticed by staff. Also had an odd smell.

Cons: Paid for harbor view room, was placed on the first floor. Had to keep blinds open the entire stay due to people walking past our slider door and kids playing wiffle ball, etc. right outside our door. Strange sort or dampness that comes up through the carpet, all of our belongings, including any paper in the room was damp as well. Room service basically hung up up on us twice, we had to call the front desk only to finally get a call back from room service stating they did not have what we wanted. Definitely not worth $1000 for two nights....

Cons: Had to call maintance 3 times. For the price of the room that was three times too many. The do a lot of chasing/ holds on bank account that takes days to fall off. Great location. Beautiful water view if the bird droppings had not been on window. Too expensive to have had all the issues

Cons: We payed $25 dollars a day to park at the Newport Harbor hotel.....

Cons: The room was nice enough although the bathroom is small as noted by other reviewers. At the regular rate, it’s probably a decent value given it’s location. But on holiday weekends they double the nightly rate and once they add in the $35 amenity fee (for what?) it becomes a $600/night room overlooking the parking lot. If I didn’t have to be in town for a wedding I wouldn’t have paid it.

Cons: Parking was $25 a night which seems high, especially in April.

Cons: Although I had paid through kayak before we arrived the hotel charged my credit card for the room. It took days and a number of phone calls to finally get the hotel to remove the charge. It may just be easier to just book through hotel.

Cons: Beds/ pillows not that comfortable. Rooms could use some updating.

Cons: Requested a king size bed, but got a queen sized bed. There were only 2 queen rooms, and we got one b/c of our length of stay?? Sink did not drain the first day, but was fixed. There was no electrical outlet in the bathroom, had to use the hairdryer out in the bedroom, but had to plug it in under the desk, so I was not able to stand and dry my hair. Wallpaper in the bathroom was lifting. The bed was not comfortable. Advertised that there were pillow top mattresses, ours was definitely not a pillow top and it was quite flat. There was no refrigerator in the room, coffee maker was old and outdated. I have been in far cheaper rooms that provided a keurig and nicer coffee provisions. Powdered creamer in a packet was gross. Overall, it was fairly disappointing for the $500.00 per night rate.

Cons: Paper thin walls to the point you could hear conversations in other rooms. Beware of party functions on the main level! First night there there was a Christmas party. When I asked the front desk what time it ended (we were on the 3rd floor and could hear the music so loud it was like a concert) they stated it ended at 10. I gave up on a quite night by 10:30. The bed in the room was a full when the website stated it should have been a queen. Had to pay the full amount in “resort fees” even though some of the amenities applicable to our stay (Friday-Sunday) were unavailable/cancelled. Lastly, keep in mind there’s no fridge in the room which stunk to find out coming back with leftovers. My fault for not realizing that while reading what was included with the room.

Cons: Parking fee extreme ($35 per day about 25% of room rate). Tub in room was nasty, no one would consider soaking in it, ok for shower. Wall behind tile in shower clearly water damaged with tile buckling and uneven with stained grout. No doubt hiding serious mold problem behind tile. Not so serious that I thought I needed flip flops for shower, but clearly showing neglect.

Cons: Didn't like that I had to valet park my car. My final bill was $130 more than I agreed to because of extra fees. There was an extra resort fee and the parking was expensive. Mattress was very old and uncomfortable.

Cons: The bathrooms are on the small side and split. Sink and closet on one side and a toilet and tub combo on the other.

Cons: Nothing - not a single complaint. Maybe a small free breakfast, but that's just trying to think of something!

Cons: water limit on bathroom sink was so bad it took a log time to rinse a glass, but that was the only thing, otherwise great!

Cons: We were housed outside of the main hotel in a wing built in the 1980s that smelled like old fast food. The pool was not working, the hot tub had earwigs floating in it. The carpeting in the pool area smelled terrible. The ice machine was covered in dust and grime. This wing of the hotel needs a deep cleaning

Cons: Seems that the luxury only goes to the higher end rooms and more public places. The public bathroom in the hotel was 3 times more amazing than the one in our room.

Cons: The hidden fees for parking and "resort fee" are a bit annoying.

Cons: Otherwise, it would have been over $300 plus for a rather small room and small bathroom. The valet will tell you thats your only parking option that costs, but not true. Miscellaneous fees can add up. So many more options to stay in Newport.

Cons: Not replacing the in-room coffee and the $35 a day valet parking are little things that irritate.

Cons: Sneaky hidden "resort" fee. This is NOT a resort. If you're going to tack on an extra $50 at check out that you hid from your fees then you need to have much nicer facilities. The workout room was small. The pool had carpet around it and was too cold to use. The beds were VERY creaky and could be heard all night long when the people upstairs got out of bed to use the restroom etc. the rooms were clean enough, not super, but I wouldn't put my baby in that bathtub that's for sure.

Cons: The front desk staff was very snooty. My husband and I tried multiple times to use the pool and/or hot tub but were unable to because there was no room. Every time we checked, it was packed full with screaming children jumping in and splashing those in the hot tub.

Cons: Hidden costs - parking, facilities.... Its an additional $15 a day for each. This is not clear in the post.

Cons: The man who checked us in was nice and efficient. I didn’t bring a hairdryer because most places have them. This place did not have one. No clock or tissues. The linoleum floor was sticky. One of the beds had cigarette burns in the blanket. The floor in the hallway had trash all over it and really needed a vacuum. Air conditioning barely worked and the room was hot and bedding felt damp. Dog across the hall barked on and off between 7:30-9:50 pm. If it wasn’t for the fact that we booked this so last minute I would have chosen to stay elsewhere.

Cons: The room smelled a little bit like mildew.

Cons: No alarm clock or basic motel items like shampoo etc, in room.

Cons: Room was bare bones. The place was noisy and my husband got very little sleep.

Cons: I don't expect a ton of amenities from Motel 6, but I don't think you should have to pay extra for wifi in 2016.
