10.0 Excellent
Pros: Manager who spoke english and French was most helpful and welcoming.
Cons: Would have preferred a buffet dinner and more western food at breakfast
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was amazing! Super fancy! They had bigger size of yukata that guests can wear. I’m a big person so I was super shocked they had varies sizes. Food was good! Staff was amazing. They did have someone that spoke English so that helped a lot.
Cons: The arcade/game section was very small. More like a little game corner. If you were above the karaoke rooms you can hear people sing. The karaoke rooms were on the first floor and I was in the third floor and I could hear the person sing perfectly. They need to invest in soundproofing those rooms.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: the room is spacious and the view of the garden is good.
7.5 Good
Pros: The location is good and the onsen is quite nice.
Cons: The dinner was not up to our expectations. The food was not too fresh. Breakfast was in a big hall and it was very crowded. Food quality was not to our expectations too.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Unique, round-house design of public bath. Private bath available to all on first- come basis. Idyllic, garden-like retreat only minutes from train station. Typical ryokan-style room—tatami floors, shoes off, alcove with table & chairs for dining, futons on floor, low table with chair backs for sitting in the main room. Staff was incredibly solicitous & helpful. I am mobility-impaired & found the typical indoor slippers dangerously ill-fitting & too short, creating a fall risk. Several staff members rushed around to find me slippers that were long enough and snug-fitting. I was really grateful since my only alternative was barefoot on a knobby textured stone floor that HURT. Dinner was a several course Japanese meal served to us in our Yukata (cotton kimonos). Pleasant atmosphere, good food, kind staff, and walking distance to the station.
Cons: No complaints at all. Reasonably priced & comfortable.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and picture perfect staff are very helpful and friendly
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel and all of the staff are amazing and very accommodating. Even with the language barrier and my lack of Japanese the staff were amazing and more helpful than I could imagine. The hotel is very beautiful, the garden is breathtaking and I would not want to stay anywhere else but Gyokusen. I would recommend this hotel to everyone coming to Matsue.
Cons: I loved everything and would not change one thing about this hotel. It was an amazing experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: - spacious and clean room - huge onsen - good buffet breakfast - friendly and helpful staff - free parking
Cons: - a little inconvenient to reach without a car
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel interior seems to be a bit outdated, but it is very well maintained. There is a very large Japanese zen garden at the back of the hotel, and some small river inside the hotel. The room was large, it fitted up to 4 adults very well with extra space for our luggage. The public baths were great, very large sized with 2 themes (wood & rock), and they were swapped everyday between the female & male, so we can experience both themes. Breakfast was plenty and delicious, the staff were very polite and helpful, location was excellent just on the riverbanks, where you can enjoy the Sakura Trees during the right times.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is very large and beautifully maintained, especially the huge Japanese garden that guests may walk through. There were a variety of baths to enjoy and the rooms were spacious and clean. The shuttle bus service from the station was very convenient. The food was excellent. There was an evening performance in the lounge area of local folk songs and dances, too, Wonderful experience.
Cons: Everything was great!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The spa was great, we enjoyed it a lot. The Japanese-style room was very cosy and we slept really well. The breakfast was generous and had a lavish variety of dishes.
Cons: There were no normal convenience stores close to the hotel. It was also a bit difficult to find a place to have dinner if you're not eating in the hotel. The staff do not really speak English but are very helpful and nice.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in a Japanese style room with a view of the gardens. Futons are more comfortable than I had imagined. The multi-course Japanese dinner was the best meal of our two week vacation. A relaxing soak in the spa topped off my day.

Matsue Excel Hotel Tokyu - Matsue - Building

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very new Spacious Nicely contemporarily decorated Staff was helpful, welcoming Restaurant was excellent
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location
Cons: Too small room size, no room bar, coffee bag
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I had a twin room for one person. It was large enough for one person. The room was clean. I recently stayed at a similar level hotel in Tokyo, and that Tokyo room had nicks and stains on the walls. The walls of Matsue Excel Tokyu were reassuringly clean and attractive. Nice linens. A view from the window. A small alarm clock that I could pick up and put beside my bed, i.e., not an alarm clock that was built into a bedside unit.
Cons: There was no bureau, only a place to hang clothes, with four hangers. There was a rack on which you could open a small suitcase. If there were two people staying for a few days, it would be difficult. (This is typical of rooms at this level of hotel, but still it's a minus.) The carpet looked rather worn. The brown color of the carpet was not particularly attractive. At 2000 yen, the breakfast seemed too expensive, so I did not buy the breakfast.
6.3 Good
Pros: Close to the station.
Cons: English language of the staff is below level. The staff is not very friendly!
7.1 Good
Pros: Convenient. Close to the station. Easy to come/go to the airport
Cons: A little old fashioned
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Overall, The best hotel for the money in Japan so far due to the special non-refundable special rate. Even paying a little more for the regular rate would have not changed my rating for the hotel, it is a very fine hotel.
Cons: Nothging

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Meals were excellent. All staff very nice and amazing sea view everything were excellent
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I booked the annex for three nights and it was very cozy and spacious. Since the restaurant of the Hotel is the only place to get food in town I had breakfast and diner there as well. And it was well worth the money. The food is amazing! The staff was very friendly and helpful and took good care of the guests.
Cons: There is no wifi in the annex.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The owner was very friendly and helpful. His wife's cooking was terrific!! We loved it!! The ryokan is typical and welcoming. Rooms are large. The hotel faces the harbour and is close to the main shrine and landmarks. Exquisite relais.
Cons: Tea was not very tasty
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Owners’ genuine friendliness and the authentic Japanese kitchen
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and great services from owner and all the staffs. Fantastic food. Picturest view from hotel. “homey and very welcome feel”
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is just incomparable - a small Japanese fishing village nestled at the foot of a mountain national park. Golden eagles by the score. Unbelievable Japanese seafood dinner.
Cons: There is nothing to not like about this Japanese ryokan. The hosts were fantastic - picking us up at the train station, cooking wonderful food and touring us on the Japan Sea.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff and great food. A wonderful place to spend a couple of days.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location is amazing if you like to be in a more quiet natural setting. We really loved our stay in this tiny fishing village. There are a couple of nice walks and a morning temple ceremony that is beautiful. It's about an hour and twenty minutes bus ride to matsue. We stayed in the annex, I think it would definitely be better value for money if there are more of you. Its very characteristic and traditional, as I said before could do with a bit more attention to detail with cleaning but it's by no means dirty so don't let that put you off. All the facilities in the annex are excellent except the WiFi, maybe for some it would be a plus to have no WiFi, we found it a bit frustrating for when we were try to organise travel plans etc. We had both breakfast and dinner, they were nice meals, there doesn't seem to be a lot of choice restaurant wise so you will probably end up eating here. It's a family run place and there is a friendly, helpful atmosphere. The owner kindly picked us up from the train station, which is lucky as I think we would have struggled getting to it ourselves. I'd recommend this place if you want to experience somewhere quiet and a bit different.
Cons: Maybe a bit more attention could be paid to cleaning as it was quite dusty in the annex and there were a couple of hairs in our bed and the bathroom sink, it wasn't dirty at all, but it could do with a deep clean. Also in my opinion the annex really needs WiFi option, as when you are travelling it's quite important for getting travel information and information about areas you are visiting and having to go back to the main hotel wasn't so convenient.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully situated at lake.
Cons: Level of English could be better. But: they do have a tablet with voice translation: very great help!
7.1 Good
Pros: Hotel was located well, looked ok from the outside. yet would not recommend it as the rooms are smelly. in 2019 you would expect more from a hotel.
Cons: Very disappointed that the hotel room was smoking room. It seems as though all the japanese rooms are smoking rooms - this was not stated on the reservation. the room smell very bad we could not not breath in it. When asked to change was told the hotel was booked out and in any case all rooms are smoking rooms. In 2019 you do not expect these things to happen not even in Japan!!!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The lake view in front of the hotel is excellent.
Cons: Poor WiFi connection.

Cons: Nothing.
6.7 Good
Pros: Bed, view and onsen.
Cons: Poor internet access and dirty hallways and lifts.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very spacious room with lake view and good onsen. Many choices of food for breakfast which is delicious and opens till 10am. Staff are friendly and polite. Free parking is a bonus.
Cons: There seems no shop and restaurant nearby and may not be convenient if not driving a car. Pyjama in blue colour is ugly.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent hotel on the lakefront, lovely friendly staff, amazing breakfast!!! Real Japanese style ryoken with a great onsen and the most comfortable futons ever. Highly recommend!
7.5 Good
Pros: I really liked the onsen here. And I wanted the r perience of staying in a traditional Japanese ryokan and this place delivered on that score. Inexpensively. Staff very friendly and helpful and though not much English was spoken, everyone made sure my questions were answered and I was well looked after. Hotel is easily reached by bus from main JR station in Matsue. Japanese breakfast was extensive. I prefer western breakfast, got to admit, but was also glad for this experience. Loved the Yakata provided for use while a guest.
Cons: The place had definitely seen better days and is a bit shabby. But I actually liked that ambience. Very genuine. And it was clean. New carpets in hallways would improve the look of the place.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Typical Japanese Ryokan. Very confortable and spacious room.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Quiet room overlooking the lake even with a road between us and the lake very comfortable and relaxing. Not totally rigid about check in time.
Cons: None
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I was totally wowed when I first came into the room. It was far higher class than what I was expecting. I had an enormous amount of space for £42 a night, with my own fully equipped Japanese bathtub and shower. The furniture supplied was excellent and the view of the lake was exceptional. Cannot recommend enough!
Cons: Nothing, it was perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great ocean view and spacious room. A few minutes walk from tram station A regular morning breakfast for 1500 yen Open air and indoor bath Close to bus stop in front of the lake Walking distance to 7-11 and nearby restaurants Many sizes of yukata inside room’s cabinet Separate room for toilet and shower Beautiful hallway decorations Good price for what you get
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This hotel is definitely recommended. I didn't really realize when I booked it, but there is a free onsen in the hotel, which was absolutely great. There is still a perfectly fine bathroom in every room as well. The rooms are Japanese style and look good. A nice detail is that there is warm tea waiting for you in the evening. From the lobby, you can see the beautiful lake. There is also a station nearby, as well as buses. Many of the sights in Matsue are at walkable distance too. The best thing was the staff. They were super friendly and helpful. Really loved staying here. One of the best experiences I have ever had in a hotel.

Pros: The shower facilities are excellent for such a cheap place to stay.
Cons: Needing to remove all personal items from the capsule and put them in the locker each day is a little frustrating. I don't feel as though the capsule needs to be cleaned each day.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic place! Loved every minute I was there. This was my first time at a proper capsule hotel and it was the best experience ever. The women's only floor is very stylish and just very pretty. Everything is very well organized and most of the staff speak English well. The free bicycle hire is just another bonus. It makes it so easy and fun to get around town. The location right by the JR station is perfect. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to try the capsule experience :)
Cons: Nothing, all was just great.
7.1 Good
Pros: Great location, twin bed non smoky rooms are good.
Cons: Extremely small single bed rooms, smoky smell .

3.8 Mediocre
Pros: We stayed in the room with private bath. That was nice.
Cons: Common baths too small. Property too old. No dinner. Breakfast too basic. Overall too expensive for what it is.
7.9 Good
Pros: The room was spacious and really lovely!
Cons: We did not mind as we speak a bit Japanese, but staff can't speak any English.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: No elevator, it may have problem if you stay in 3rd with big luggage.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was simple but delicious. The location was good and I had a room with lake view.
Cons: The staff didn't speak much English. Being a traditional ryokan, there's no lift and I had to lug my bulky suitcase up the stairs to my room. My 1/F room overlooks the lake but there's also a main road right outside so the speeding vehicles could be heard very clearly. On my last night there, there were also girls parking their bikes just beneath my window and sitting there and chatting at 11 pm. That was rather annoying as I could hear them clearly in the quiet of the night.
8.8 Excellent
Cons: Breakfast can be changed a bit different day by day ...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location across from Lake Shinji so I could watch folks fishing and seabirds from nice window. Good wifi. Little English spoken here but warm reception and friendly hosts. I couldn't eat the breakfast as very Japanese style but that was ok as nice mini-fridge, coffee maker etc. I also ate one of the best 5 course meals of my life at nearby Hara near Mitsue Onsen station (convenient for day trip to Izumo for sightseeing) but reservations are a must. Rent a bike from Giant at Mitsue Onsen station, soak in the footbath and see the cherry blossoms at Mitsue Castle and around. Lots to do in this charming city. World-class Adachi Gardens and museum less than an hour away by transit.
Cons: Don't want to whine too much about the breakfast but don't sign up for it unless you are really happy with traditional Japanese breakfast. Also, the onsen temperature was not hot enough for my tastes.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Well balanced service, cleanliness, location, etc.
Cons: Breakfast was a bit too minimalist and lacked preparation with care.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Large room with a large bathroom. Well located in Shinjiko-Onsen. The hotel had free parking.
Cons: The shower had almost no water pressure which made it hard to wash before using the private Onsen.
7.5 Good
Pros: Good onsen and rotenburo. Traditional Japanese tatami rooms.
Cons: Breakfast was very basic. A bit far from the center of town.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very clean. Excellent staff. Wonderful onsen. Superb location!!!
Cons: We did not realize there was no shower or bathtub in our room until we arrived.

Pros: Nice staff Convenient location and parking

Cons: The room is smaller than what I’m used to, but it’s really not that big of a deal.
6.7 Good
Pros: friendly and helpful staff.
Cons: wifi was very spotty, and I would have wished to be able to change the air in the room. but window was bolted shut, and airconditioner did not compensate.
7.1 Good
Pros: the location, the view from my room, the friendly staff
Cons: a big bug in the room
7.1 Good
Pros: The view from the hotel's upper floors was very nice, especially the side facing Lake Shinji. The onsen facility is spacious and well-maintained. CVS downstairs.
Cons: Wifi only at the lobby with disappointed weak connection. Location-wise, it's a bit off the central district, nothing much nearby. You have to walk 400-500 meters to the closest decent restaurant area. However, it's very dark and quiet at night. The hotel provides shuttle service to the train station but up to 9:00 AM only when you can check out until 10:00 AM. During holidays, the surcharge might double the normal price.
