9.0 Excellent
Cons: The only small negative is the location - no views in an otherwise very nice area
7.9 Good
Pros: Cozy, small placewith beautiful gardens
Cons: Although the food's presentation was phenomenal, the taste was not up to par
6.3 Good
Pros: The hotel is beautiful and very “zen”. We had a room with a garden view and that was really peaceful. We stayed for 2 nights : the first dinner was amazing but we enjoyed less the quality of the meat for the shabu-s’habille (2nd dinner).
Cons: When we arrived, the staff was nice and helpful but at the check-out, they barely spoke to us and didn’t even help us with the luggage (I am 6 months pregnant...). I didn’t like the discrepancy of behavior and quality of service. Also, one of the waiters was extremely smelly which was a complete turn-off while he was serving our dinner.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Appreciate they waited for us arriving after 8pm, as heavy traffic from Narita airport, and starting our Kaiseki dinner set later than normal hours. Excellent 4 persons family bedroom with comfortable beds with private outdoor onsen which we used everyday. Self service drinks table (with wines, sake, coffee, tea, fruit juice) very useful late at night after onsen. Can spend hours enjoying cosy Japanese style family room with board games and chess. A few bookable private small outdoor onsen good for family, but not necessary if there is private onsen in room. Great Japanese breakfast, and Shabu shabu dinner on second night.
Cons: Public onsen in Hotel has no towel (big or small) so need to bring those from room. Onsen pool smaller than usual. setting not as nice as some other public hotel onsen. Hotel big and needed to walk upstair and downstairs in corridor to get to places. Supplied Japanese style slippers too small for my size 9.5 feet.
5.0 Okay
Pros: staff Very helpful and kind
Cons: We had a very disappointing table for dinner, isolated away from the main dining room by the toilets
7.9 Good
Pros: Very good quality of meals, unfortunately not always our taste. The private public bath was very comfortable and nice.
Cons: The private bath (Onsen) in the room was very small and didn't invited us to use it. It was located behind the "washbassin room"
10.0 Excellent
Pros: An absolutely amazing traditional Japanese onsen experience. We were the only non-Japanese guests. Everything was so clean and absolutely perfect. You also get an enormous traditional dinner upon arrival and a traditional breakfast the next day.
Cons: It was a bit confusing to get to. Wish someone told us this so here it is: To get there, take the H bus from I believe bus stop 2 once you get to Hakone Yumoto station. If you look it up on Google Maps it will be in Japanese characters which is confusing but once you get there you’ll see it is the H bus.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Authentic ryokan experience up the mountain in a forest. Good real Japanese food.Fabulous private hot tub. Fun very different experience.
Cons: Be aware that there is not much in the area other than hiking.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfectly nestled in the forests of Hakone with a daily view of majestic Mt. Fuji. Beautiful experience, exquisite food snd caring hospitality.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about the hotel was amazing, helpful and friendly staff, great food, comfotable rooms and a great private bath. So relaxing i didn't want to leave.
Cons: Errm, clouds blocking the view of Mt Fuji, can't blame the staff for that though. Really can't think of anything else.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The beds were incredibly confortable. The room was amazing. The in-room onsen made for a magical stay.
Cons: I wish it were closer to the ropeway, but then it would have been out of our price range for sure.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location! Great service and excellent views of Mount Fuji. The onsen in our room was also great! It was clean and peaceful. The beds were comfortable. They offered a shuttle service to and from Obako Ropeway station.
Cons: I couldn't really fault Hakone Yuyado Zen. Only comments I would make is if Supper could be different since we were there for 2 nights. Public transport to this place from Hakone Yumoto station is a bit of a distance away so make sure you leave plenty of time to travel.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Yuyado Zen was the perfect place to relax and enjoy Mt Hakone. The staff are beyond excellent and the meals are at gastronomic experience. My husband and I also loved the in-room onsen which was beautiful on a cold day. Would love to stay here again.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Food was amazing, we had a great view of Mount Fuji, the outdoor bath was lovely - couldn't really ask for more!

Pros: Bed was very comfy.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hostel to spend a few days. Big comfortable rooms, nice common area and onsen. Clean. Great value for money. Staff very welcoming. Highly recommended.
Cons: The location is uphill from the city centre. So if you have heavy luggage better to wait for the bus !
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The onsen was beautiful, and the hotel was kept impeccably. The staff were also extremely helpful and spoke amazing English.
Cons: A 10 minute walk from the bus stop (from the train station) up hill.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome onsen, i had the onsen all to myself. It was cool since it was so quiet and peaceful. I met someone with whom i then started a roadtrip. I am glad i stayed here!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I liked everything here! The dorm was great, due to the curtains you can have your privacy, the beds have windows facing the trees and there is a locker next to each bed (you need your own locker though). The onsen was fantastic. The staff is super helpful and kind, giving all the advice you need to plan your stay. I met here very nice people from all over the world. Definitely take the bus (K line) instead of the walk from the station with luggage/backpack. Very easy to access all the sights in the region from here. I wish I could have stayed longer.
Cons: -
Fukuzumiro - Hakone - Building
8
9.0 Excellent (1,014 reviews)
AED 1223+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at FUKUZUMIRO in Hakone (Tonosawa), you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Hakone Hot Springs and Hakone Kowakien Yunessun. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was extraordinary and beautiful. The staff was super nice.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful Ryokan made of wood and very authentic. Room was very spacious with a beautiful view over the river (for the ones having issues sleeping at night not the best option because it is very noisy! Sounds like there is a storm outside) Very nice experience to have dinner served in the traditional room wearing a traditional outfit (yukata)
Cons: More expensive than other ryokans considering that the price we booked did not include dinner, we had to pay an extra of 50000 yen per person. Was very disappointed by the onsen that is a small "cube" of hot water. Better not to share it with other people if you like you privacy. We had the chance to go to the private onsen that was even smaller than a regular bathtub!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: This was my first ryokan and onsen experience, and it set a very high standard by which others have been compared in different cities. I felt welcome from my first step in the door, and Yukiko made it special by explaining everything from how the ryokan works, how to find my room, how to use the onsen and what food I was being served. My very large room was beautiful and by the river, and I like the sound of water so this was perfect for me. It was a bit loud during the period I stayed because it was full after the typhoon. Yes, there is a bit of a musty smell sometimes because it's in the forest and, as I mentioned, by the river. The private onsen is open 24 hours, very relaxing and was never occupied during the time I used it. And the food - wow! Artfully and carefully prepared by a chef, these meals are several small courses and served privately in your room. They're delicious, they're special, and they feature local Hakone specialities. Location of the ryokan itself is a few steps from the bus to the train station in one direction and to the lake and Torii in the other direction. Would stay here again when in Hakone in a heartbeat!
Cons: This is feedback for other visitors, not the ryokan. I was unconcerned by negative or low reviews left by previous guests because it's obvious they were based on pure ignorance. For example: a) Price: The included private breakfast and dinner is called kaiseki, which can cost as much as $50-$100 per meal (look it up). You're not just paying for the room. b) No laundry: The listing says that there aren't facilities, so choose another if this is important to you or use the river. An establishment isn't going to change their property or business model for individual people with niche needs. c) Social: This isn't a youth hostel with buffet style meals. You can meet people on the street, on the bus, on the train, at cafes, etc.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The building was incredibly beautiful, the scenery from our room next to the river was particularly gorgeous to wake up to. The food was delicious and interesting and it was such a nice experience for it to be served in the room and eat while wearing comfy robes. The staff were more than fantastic. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a ryokan experience.
Cons: Nothin!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Had absolutely amazing time staying at this ryokan. Everything was very traditional and staff were very welcoming and helpful and could communicate well in English. Our hostess was super helpful and made our time really enjoyable. We had the breakfast and dinner- both of which were amazing meals. The room was great - had everything we needed and was overlooking the river and we could hear the flowing water which was great. Both the public and private onsens were great - really enjoyed having the private one to go and share with my partner. The building is old, however it definitely has this traditional look and feel, which made our stay unforgettable. Also the futon beds were super comfortable. The location is great too - only 10-15min walk from the train station in Hakone, so central to everything and also there was a bus stop outside if you didnt walk.
Cons: everything was great!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Idyllic location right by the river. We had a river side room that with a view of the Japanese maple trees turnjng color. 130-year old building full of charm. The staff was excellent and the young lady who checked us in and served us our meals was very friendly and charming.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staying at this lovely traditional Ryokan was the highlight of an already amazing trip through Japan. The building had such lovely character, it was a pleasure to just walk around. The staff were fantastic, especially the wonderful lady who was our room attendant, nothing was ever too much trouble, and it was fantastic to have her explain all the traditional dishes served at dinner and breakfast. We loved our river view room, it was definitely worth the money to upgrade, as the purpose of staying here was just to sit around and relax. It was also useful to have the option of the private onsen, giving us the chance to get used to the experience without feeling too self-conscious. I would definitely recommend staying in this beautiful place!
Cons: The only negative I could see would be getting up and down off the floor if you had bad knees. Were both young, but we did say we may not recommend such a traditional experience to our parents as they would have found this uncomfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our stay here was really special. This was a splurge for us so we only did one night, but it was so so worth it. The building is beautiful and old, the food was excellent, the service was outstanding and warm, and the onsen were lovely with different temperatures (a bonus if you’re like me and can only handle high heat for about a minute). We stayed in room Sakura 3 and the views were absolutely stunning. Everything felt very traditional, and so comfortable. So happy we chose Fukuzumiro.
7.5 Good
Pros: Traditional ryokan and it overlooked a roaring mountain stream. Onsen was lovely.
Cons: Rooms in need of some improvement. Toilet some distance away from the room. Onsen was small - wouldn’t have been so nice if there were more guests around. Only 3 could fit in the hot pool.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely little hostel, felt very genuine and Japanese! The owner was very nice and helpful, he had a lot of tips and helped us with bookings and tickets.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beds were comfortable. Sheets were clean and smelled fresh. The shared bathroom was very clean as well. Love the host, Kana. Wonderful hospitality and vast knowledge of the area to tell you all the secret local spots. I wish she can be my guide for the rest of Japan as well. Thank you for having us Kana!
Cons: The fact that it's a hostel. I wish we could pay more to have private hotel room with this host at this location. This is our first time using a hostel and it was an absolutely wonderful experience although we still would like to have our private bathroom to go with the private room. The room itself was a bit out dated but very clean.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely hostel and lovely helpful host. Our room was clean and comfortable. The shared bathroom was clean and didn’t feel shared. Our host was very helpful with planning our activities in hakone. Highly recommend. Location is very close to two bus stops making it easy to get around the area. Also close to a number of restaurants and a great private onsen, which the host helped book.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I stayed in the private double room and the bed was super comfortable. Small heater warmed up the room perfectly. The host was super nice and a pleasure to meet. Common areas very spacious and well furnished, enjoyed meeting other travellers. Shower and bathroom area very clean. Quiet and respectful guests.
Cons: Would have just liked the blind to block out the light through the window.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is amazing! Very kind and helpful with everything and everyone. We got there and a woman named Kana welcomed us with a smile and a kind heart. She helped us find an amazing route to take, and a free pass we bought in a near 7 11. She walked with us there to see that we get everything right and help us and then walked us to the bus stop because she was worried we'll get lost. Even on check out in the morning, she just started looking up bus routes to our next destination without even asking her, and waited for the bus with us. The place is very clean and chill. Enough room for everyone. Kitchen is small and suitable for the place. Bathroom and toilets clean and nice. Bedroom is clean and the beds big enough for 2 people and there is enough room for everyone. Location is great for the price and is only 15 to 20 minutes to the lake where all the beautie of Hakone is. Although we stayed only 1 night - we wanted to stay more. Overall, I recommend the place to all. If you want to get a nice, comfortable and a warm and welcoming staff - go for this place.
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff was very helpful and the location was great.
Cons: The staff was very helpful and the location was great. This seems to be fairly normal but the check in and out times are limited to a five hour window
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The receptionist was really friendly and helpful! I caught a flu and he traveled back his own home to source for medications for me. I really appreciate the kind gesture.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful property with highly attentive staff and a wonderful restaurant. You definitely get a luxury Ryokan experience here with your own private hot spring bath!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great for a little romantic treat during a long trip. Quite expensive for what you get. Food was ok, but given the price of the stay would have expected better quality, and fewer restraints on the time served. Lovely private onsen baths and clean big rooms. Most comfortably beds and bed linen ever!
Cons: Food could have been better quality. Expensive for drinks etc. Strict timings for meals. Location is good for some down time, but little else around hotel - easy access to the rest of Hakone via free shuttle to station/bustop just over the bridge.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Terrific experience, great for an anniversary trip! Service was easily 5-star, and a great way to experience an onsen in a more private setting.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent services! Every staff has genuine smile on their face. I have pre ordered a birthday cake and the staff handed it to my room at sharp mid night without ringing the bell. Very considerate
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bath was amazing. The bed is great. Good pillows. Clean. Modern. Good shower. Friendly staff.
Cons: The hotel is pretty secluded which makes it hard to leave to go to stores or in to town if you don’t have a car. Therefor I think it would be better to have more food available, not only the dinner and breakfast, but more snacks or even just vending machines. Maybe some more a la cart items in menu. I think also a couple simple chairs for the rooms. Or for the onsen area.
5.4 Okay
Cons: Very overpriced.

Pros: Location was near Gora station. Pizza was excellent and you get to use the private onsen for free
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing stay. The room is nice and the futon bed is comfy and cosy. They have the best staff ever, they were super kind and very helpful and spoke very good English. The bathrooms were clean and they have two onsen you can use for free, they also provide blow dryers and towel for free. There is free tea or coffee in the kitchen. Definitely recommend staying here when coming to Hakone. If you use the stairs coming from Gora station you won't have to walk far.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is few meters from Gora station. You can take the under passage from Gora station if still on operating hours. Stayed in female dormitory and I really like the traditional tatami mat style. Their pizzas are must try!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Lots of fun
Cons: Had to leave
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff were amazing. Had a great vibe and is well located. They serve dinner with reasonable prices which is handy considering a lot of places close early in the area. Onsen are absolutely incredible, like seriously good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It's soo nice and cosy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful view, super comfy futon, spacious room, and best of all room included use of the onsens which were indoor and private. Perfect if you want the experience but arent ready for public nudity or have tattoos. We regretted not getting the breakfast, make sure you get it cause if you're staying in the area you'll find nothing open till after 10am. The onsens were perfect too. It was so easy to get to too! Close to the Gora station.
Cons: I had no issue with anything, but things people who are extra picky might consider: squeaky floors (its a traditional building, probably been there a hot minute) and there are some spiders (large ones) in a few dark corners (you're surrounded by nature sooooo yeah unavoidable)
7.1 Good
Cons: Few toilet.... Tiny dark onsen

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We felt very well taken care of throughout the whole experience. It was nice having one staff member as our point of contact and she was the sweetest woman who made sure our stay was the best it could be. The views of the hotel and the surround town are amazing and we had such a refreshing visit during our trip to Japan. Definitely worth taking the trip to Hakone for this place!
Cons: There really wasn't anything we didn't like. We chose to walk to the location from the station and it wasn't too much of a hike. The location is easy to find and exceptionally staffed. The view and tranquility could not be beat!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a fantastic stay at this gorgeous, peaceful ryokan. The staff are absolutely wonderful, very warm and welcoming—meeting them was one of the best parts of our trip. The food was delicious and presentation of both dinner and breakfast was spectacular. The room was beautifully renovated as a private oasis. Highly, highly recommend a stay here!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Room was incredibly nice and spacious, with hot tub outside - which was the highlight. Service was impeccable.
Cons: The hotel sits a 10-12 min walk from "downtown" Hakone, and a 45 min train ride from Gora.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: My first Ryokan experience, but from having researched a little, I think very classic experience with just a touch of some modern convienences that did not detract from the tranquility and added some comfort. Staff was perfect, and the manager spoke English well. They responded to all my requests. Gave great advice how to spend my day. Location a great jumping off point for day trips. I stayed two nights.
Cons: The cost seemed to me astronomical. I justified it as a one time expenditure and limited choices due to last minute booking as this was added onto a business trip.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, and we loved the aesthetic of the room. A short walk from the Open Air Museum, a can't miss. Also close to Gora station, although the train was still out of commission at the time of our visit (late November 2019). We booked the rate that includes breakfast and dinner, which was nice (nothing remarkable), but the primary benefit was that it forced us to truly slow down and relax and enjoy our stay. There were also several restaurant offerings a short walk away.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The room is super clean!!!!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location near Gora station, food very good, & drinks inclusive in the dinner option. Nice library area, and family friendly. Clean, good public baths, & nice private bath too. Rooms fairly spacious with comfortable beds. Large hotel, but didn't feel busy (except at breakfast).
Cons: Had to wait for a table to be ready for breakfast - quite a short window meant everyone arrived at once. Weather was not good so unable to make the most of the outside areas. In room bathrooms quite small, with shower only.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staffs are so kind And facilities are clean and love to talk in outside with fireplace.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. Traveled with 3 generations of our family and everyone wished we had booked another night. Great facilities, meals and service - spacious, well appointed rooms. Fantastic overall experience!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Newly built, beautiful and immaculate premises, large and comfortable room. Very kind and helpful staff.
Cons: Public bath not at the level of this category of hotel where you go ... specifically for the Japanese bath! Price for dinning ( I gave up) Breakfast below average, I had much better in 3 simple business hotels during the same week in Japan.
8.0 Excellent
Cons: That we had to walk outside to get to all of the facilities, including the spa and hotel restaurant
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The place is amazing for a couples retreat of for a family escape. Very comfortable rooms with amazing views if you are lucky to be on the rooms overlooking the valley. The outdoor footbath and fireplace make the place very special.
Cons: Extremely tight breakfast time. It worked out with our schedule but I can imagine it being an issue if we stayed more than one night to relax.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is spectacular. Beautiful spacious lounge area, a nice teatime offering, an evening whisky offering. The food in the restaurant was fantastic quality, complemented by a wide choice. The rooms were spacious, and comfortable. The private onsens (which you need to book) and the public onsens were brilliant, while it was also fantastic to organise a massage for my wife and I. The location is great, just a mere minutes away from Gora station, from where you can access everything in the Hakone area.
Cons: Nothing. The hotel was spectacular. We'd hoped it would be, given the price, and it was.

Pros: Very nice quite environment. We like it so much as it provide a good resting place. Room furniture are all very new. Toilet is marvellously clean. Breakfast provided was simple but window view is good. Reception staff are very helpful. Outdoor onsen is beautifully serene as it is next to a forest - love it very much.
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Honestly, nothing not to like. Staff were very helpful. Don't think I've ever seen a cleaner hotel and beds and pillows as comfortable as anything. Did I mention specious rooms?!
Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, comfortable hotel and great hot spring baths
Cons: No english speaking staff. No communication re travel changes (local train line wasn't running all the way- due to typhoon ) -possibly due to poor english skills? No ability to arrange pick up from nearest station-(as local line not running).
9.2 Excellent
Cons: That there is no reasonable breakfast.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Not much, but the location.
Cons: No breakfast, though they present it with. (Only very bad coffee and cake) No bathroom in the room. Rooms are small Nothing to do. Nothing in the lobby
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Quiet and very clean. Short walking distance to nearest bus stop.
7.5 Good
Pros: Quiet ryokan and very spacious room. It was very clean and the bed comfortable. The hotsprings are great and it is a fine place to relax and enjoy the quietness.
Cons: The fact that is a bit isolated and there is no restaurant in the hotel it gives a bit of stuggle for ones that do not have car. We had to have a meal in 7eleven. Also in the hotel website there should be a link for train or bus timetables as the English level of the staff is not great. Breakfast is an assortment of not so interesting pastries and coffee from a machine

7.9 Good
Pros: It was in a good location. The staff were really nice. The rooms are big.
Cons: The hotel has almost a re purposed apartment feel. The rooms are dated but it didn't have an impact on my stay.
6.7 Good
Pros: Good position at the J Bus line, bus stop Verde no Mori (goes directly from Odawara to the hotel. With the same bus line it's possible to reach the ropeway or the cablecar station). With the J Bus it's even possible to go directly to Owakudani, from where you can see Mount Fuji. Shuttle to Gora station from the hotel for free if needed. Restaurants at Yunessun and the nearby (10 minutes by foot). Big room for Japan, with a balcony. And in our room wifi was even possible from the room (officially only in the lobby).
Cons: Dinner at the hotel very expensive and has to be booked one day in advance.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The in-house spa is remarkable.
Cons: This hotel is isolated. Dining options are impossible if your on a budget. There is absolutely nothing to do at night. Transportation is scant. And walking to the nearest civilization is over a mile.
