Overview Reviews
You can enjoy hot springs to your heart's content as all rooms are equipped with a semi outdoor hinoki (cypress) bath. Our head chef's pride is original kaiseki cuisine, prepared with carefully selected ingredients such as fresh seafood from Sagami Bay and Suruga Bay, and legendary brand wagyu beef.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location is beautiful! The staff was very helpful and attentive. The breakfast room was included a beautiful view, and was very extensive. Dinner was also wonderful with many courses. Each day was a different menu. The hot springs private bath was beyond wonderful, and the rooms were spacious and clean.
Cons: The directions to get to the hotel were slightly confusing. We took the bus from Odawara Station to Palace Hotel Hakone-mae. As instructed by the property, we were to call once we arrived at that stop/hotel. We thought we would ask the hotel to contact the property, as we do not have an international plan on our phones. However, the bus dropped us off at the Palace Hotel stop, and there was no hotel. Apparently it had been torn down. We were left on the side of the road with nothing around us, and were quite confused. Thankfully, another property shuttle drove by and gave us a ride (so kind), but an update to the website (or an email) would have been appreciated. Furthermore, we didn't know if dinner was a specific time or during a window of time. It turns out that it was at a specific time. Unbeknownst to me, we missed our dinner time when we were at the side of the road (as once connected to wifi, I had an email wondering where I was). Thankfully, we were able to eat at a later time. At times, there was somewhat of a language barrier with the specific staff member assigned to us; however, we were in Japan, and we don't expect that hotels should have to have to speak English to cater to us. The hotel provides garments to wear to breakfast and dinner. These are very comfortable; however, they only had one size available in the women's clothing. A variety of sizes might be nice. In men's, they offered two sizes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great service, great onsen and amazing food, didn't get to see Mt.Fuji(it was cloudy and raining), but that would had been just a plus
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The private onsen and meals were great.
Cons: It is a bit remote and long ride by bus or taxi from the train in Odawara.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Nobody could speak English. I am allergic to MCG, I explained it to the people( on Google translate). The whole meal was laden with mcg. Lip swelled up. Was not pleasant
Cons: Everything. Too foreign. Too out of the way. Not for discerning travelers
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place - we had a lovely stay. Food was excellent and staff very helpful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Service was impeccable Meals were beautifully presented. Our room was spacious, the beds comfortable, and the view of Mt Fuji from our private onsen was the icing on the cake.
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Stunning hotel with incredibly hospitable staff. The hot spring on the balcony was fabulous. Meals were exceptional.
Cons: Property is slightly out of the way and a little bit of a mission to reach by public transport but not the end of the world.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view was beautiful and peaceful!! And all the staff was nice and thoughtful! Definitely try their breakfast and dinner, which will surprise you. And the best thing is the indoor nature hot spring!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The entire experience was relaxing and memorable. Our room was perfect, with a view of Mt. Fuji from our private Onsen. The staff was always friendly, helpful and anticipated our needs. A great place to stay and unwind.
7.9 Good
Pros: Very cozy room. Very calm. Placed in forest.
Cons: A little bit far from Togendai station. There is no convenient facility near this place.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved that it was very clean and quiet.
Cons: I loved everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were extremely welcoming and attentive during my stay, and the mini onsen in my room was so relaxing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Unbelievable experience from start to finish. The kaiseki service was exceptional - a meal of the highest quality. Staff were friendly, attentive but not overbearing. The room was fantastic and authentic. The games room and private onsen were the icing on the cake. A perfect romantic getaway.
Cons: Nothing of note - wonderful stay.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely view, comfortable room, excellent service. The private onsen was very hot, but you can adjust the temperature by adding cold water. There’s also a wonderful bar where you can help yourself to “free” coffee, tea, juice, and alcohol (wine, beer, sake and whiskey)—that is, it’s included as part of the price.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Top class accomodation and fantastic service, an authentic Japanese experience. Our room was spacious, clean and much bigger than I thought it would be, the on site onsen was an added bonus you could even book private bathing.
Cons: I was a bit concerned that I had made the wrong choice when walking from the bus to the accommodation as the surrounding houses looked very run down. I couldn’t have been more wrong, the accomodation was lovely and very private.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff is amazing and the whole stay is a good experience. The beds are very comfortable and the food exciting. Some of the foods require real curiosity, maybe not for everyone’s taste... and it’s presented very nicely. The private bath (onsen) is nice. It would have been nice to have a view but the bath is behind a fence. Amazing shampoos, lotions etc included. You get to wear a kimono, a traditional “home gown” and other traditional items.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location was far up the mountain that it was very quiet so you can enjoy the onsen in peace with your surroundings. The food was presented so beautifully. Refreshments were offered to be enjoyed in a seated area to enjoy the view our front. Upon leaving the staff assisted with props for a picture in front of the ryokan.
Cons: I would say more towels to be provided in the room to use for the onsen would be a plus since you need to bring the towel to the public onsen. If some foreign tv channels could be included while relaxing in the room.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great ryokan. Bedrooms are traditionally well decorated. Nice infrastructure with private honsen available. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Very friendly staff.
6.3 Good
Pros: The private baths --- Oh they are so beautiful and tranquil. Don't miss it if you stay there. There is also a very generous open bar in the lobby where you could share in traditional japanese drinks such as sake/beer/tea at any time. The surrounding area is very quiet and peaceful. Good for recharging yourself.
Cons: We booked the Standard room with private bath. This was situated in the old wing of the Ryokan. The entire wing, including the room, had a musky smell (it was not the onsen smell). The room we had looked like it last had a face-lift in 1985 or something. Wallpaper was peeling, water stains on the walls, cracks and holes in the wall that is not properly patched... I have attached photos. Completely not what you'd expect considering the cost of the room is about USD550 per night! The 'private hot spring bath' is also in a tiny 2mx2m (max) bathroom. We didn't even use it. The pictures are a bit deceiving... Food quality was good, but nothing to call home about. TLDR; Place is a bit pricey, but if you decide to stay, make sure you get the newly renovated rooms. I think most of the sparkling reviews are from people who stayed in the newer rooms.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, open bar, great food, generous portions and inexpensive wine
Cons: View was not very interesting.

Cons: Stairs inside are steep if you have a big luggage! For the bathrooms you need to go downstairs!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Two private onsen (I didn't have real difficulty to find it available), very nice and helpful staff (they also lend us un umbrella and let us freely leaving our luggage before check in and after check out), the structure is very very nice. Near to Gora station, in the middle of Hakone area
Cons: there are some curtains but they weren't sufficient to avoid sun light to wake me up very early.
6.7 Good
Pros: Staff was friendly and location was nice. Good price. Onsen experienxe was very nice
Cons: Stairs to carry bags up. Only 1 toilet upstairs for men and 1 for women when there were more than 8 people staying at that time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location & very friendly stuff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice traditional Japanese guest house, the location is great just next to Gora train station. The staff was great and friendly, always willing to help. The private onsen was amazing.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Modern Japanese style loved all facilities
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful view, super comfy futon, spacious room, and best of all room included use of the onsens which were indoor and private. Perfect if you want the experience but arent ready for public nudity or have tattoos. We regretted not getting the breakfast, make sure you get it cause if you're staying in the area you'll find nothing open till after 10am. The onsens were perfect too. It was so easy to get to too! Close to the Gora station.
Cons: I had no issue with anything, but things people who are extra picky might consider: squeaky floors (its a traditional building, probably been there a hot minute) and there are some spiders (large ones) in a few dark corners (you're surrounded by nature sooooo yeah unavoidable)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: excellent position near Hakone Tozan train and ropeway stations; two private onsen; nice and spacious room; tasty pizza; kind staff
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location good and staff very friendly
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The onsen was fantastic, the staff were friendly a breakfast was home made and really nice :)
Cons: That I didnt book to stay there longer
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I really appreciate the two bath with hot spring water. I also appreciate the cleaning toilets.
Cons: No air conditioners in toilets. In general is not necessary in Hakone but summer 2019 was super warm.

Pros: Staff was very friendly and very helpful. Very close to a bus stop (2 min walk). Place was clean. Laundry facility (300¥) and kitchen on site. Would definitely stay here again.
Cons: Nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: The onset was beautiful. I only went to the outside one and loved it. The view on the balcony is also beautiful! The kitchen is easy to use and clean.
Cons: The bed set up. I am more of a private person and would have liked a curtain for my bunk to give me some privacy.

Hyatt Regency Hakone Resort and Spa - Hakone - Building
7
9.0 Excellent (1,208 reviews)
AED 1594+
Overview Reviews
Located within the Fuji Hakone Izu National Park, 80km west of Tokyo. This residential lodge is located in Fuji and is situated in an area (Gora) famous for its natural hot springs (onsens). The resort's on-site spa has 8 treatment rooms available as well as two hot spring baths, one for ladies and one for men.
7.1 Good
Pros: We liked the view and the friendly staff, particularly the trainee staff member from Guam. The free shuttle was great and much appreciated.
Cons: I felt the lounge area looked very tired and I was cold on one occasion. One evening we ordered club sandwiches. The toast was cold which made the sandwich unappealing. We treated ourselves to dinner in the restaurant. The hot side dishes were delivered well before our main course and were cold by the time our steak or chicken arrived. For the price, I would expect much better timing. The other issue was that there were very few places to eat nearby. Overall, we felt that the price for the room and food was too high.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Really nice hotel, rooms are really large and comfortable. we are a family of 5 and we took 2 rooms, but they are large enough to squeeze 4 people in. Service is amazing, there is always someone to welcome you in, everyone speaks English . I also liked the shuttle service. Hakone is a region and not a city , as such you need to move around in order to see the attractions, the shuttle service to take us to the nearest station or outdoor museum was very useful. the hotel has a great western and Japanese restaurants. we only ate the western restaurant. Prices are similar to what you will pay in Australia or on your Fijian holiday ($150 a family for dinner) but the standard and service are really high. Open bar everyday from 4-7pm is really nice to have. we are not big drinkers , but its a nice have. The hot spa in the hotel was great, personally I find it unusual to bath naked , which is the Japanese tradition, but when I went to use it around 8pm, I was the only person in the spa.
Cons: Loved everything. I would have loved to have a bath/spa on the balcony. The balcony is large enough to accomodate this.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: All services, specially Onsen !
Cons: I like all services
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location for all the attractions in the area was great. Beautiful view. Breakfast was yum, with lots of options. Free drinks at the end of the day was nice and it was all quite relaxing.
Cons: Very expensive.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We found the staff exceptional. They went above and beyond to help us when we were brainstorming how to get to the train station, and when I changed my mind about a food order. They made us feel like it was all ok! We also loved the convenience of the hotel bus! We loved the robes that you can wear around the hotel, the onsen, and the food. It was the end of our 2 week trip, so the kids were happy to find some western items on the menu! The free happy hour was also relaxing! We enjoyed going to lake Ashi to ride the pirate boat, and we got to see Mt. Fuji from the large hotel window in the hallway when the clouds cleared it! We had a room with a tatami mat room with futons for the kids, which they enjoyed! The room, hotel, bathrooms, and onsen were exceptionally clean. I rated it lower on the value for money only because we are not used to staying in such expensive hotels! So, this was a real treat for us.
Cons: Nothing. I wouldn't change a thing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. The hotel is hidden away in Hakone, about a 40 minute shuttle bus ride from Odawara station. The facilities were excellent along with the food. The on-site Spa and onsen (Hot spring) are great also. Great way to relax and recharge. The staff were really helpful and accommodating.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Cons: No free breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Large and airy room with all comforts, great view over the mountains, outstanding service, cosy lounge/bar, nice free drinks in the afternoon.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Hospitality, quality services, room cleanliness, breakfast buffet, drink service after arrival, shuttle bus service
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly and helpful. We have some problem with an additional guest but was sorted out very efficiently.

Overview Reviews
With a stay at FUKUZUMIRO in Hakone (Tonosawa), you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Hakone Hot Springs and Hakone Kowakien Yunessun. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: A bit pricy but definitely worth the money. We had one night stay including the private onsen and a kaiseki dinner. If you put all those three activities together I think you have a great balance price-value
10.0 Excellent
Pros: An all over amazing experience. It's unlike anything you can find in the UK the staff are attentive and helpful. The dinner is an experience all to itself, they even catered to a vegetarian diet which is difficult to find for a Ryokan. Would easily recommend this to anyone.
7.5 Good
Pros: Service and food were impeccable. I wonderful traditional Japanese experience.
Cons: If you like wine don’t buy it there or will be very disappointed. I know it’s part of the experience however the communal test room (toilet) is a long way from the rooms which leads to long treks at night if needed.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Authentic, brilliant staff that are always available to cater for guests. Food was great!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff went above and beyond for me. From explaining the facilities and the food (dinner is highly recommend). It is an experience as if you are stepping back in time.
Cons: It's a very old building so its all wood and low ceilings. Anybody over 180cm might have some trouble fitting in the loo or finding the bed a bit small.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff was absolutely incredible. So kind, helpful, and polite - which is standard in Japan, but they went above and beyond. They made me feel right at home and the private Onsen is a dream.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Has a very authentic feel. The dinner was exceptional and good value for money. Ryokan was good.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The best stay in my trip in Japan. A unique experience and an immersion in the Japanise culture. Breakfast is amazing, served in the room. Dinner is 5 course luxurious Japanese cuisine. Onsen are clean, both public and private. The Ryokan is at the Riverside and there is always on the background the sound of the river flowing, but it is also close to the hakone yumoto train station.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, staff is super nice and attentive, multiple hot onsens within the property, amazing atmosphere and truly beautiful. Kaiseki meal was 5 stars.
Cons: It’s a bit pricy but definitely worth it
4.2 Okay
Pros: Beautiful building. Traditional old onsen. Friendly staff.
Cons: Shared bathrooms (onsens) and toilet areas not clean. Dusty, mouldy, and also dripping taps. Wet towels left out overnight. We repeatedly asked to see a vegetarian menu for the evening in communications before and during the stay but were not given this. Hot breakfast cold on the second morning. This is a very expensive hotel. If we’d paid a third of the price, we would not be so disappointed. Two nights too long. Beds uncomfortable. Towels and linen old and worn. Very shabby for such a price. Check in took over an hour.

7.5 Good
Pros: Kana, the woman running the place, was incredibly helpful and friendly. Also, the location was pretty good for what we wanted to do.
Cons: The price for a Japanese style room with basic facilities (shared bathroom /toilet)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The hotel provides a fully equipped kitchen, but we don't have time to use it as we only stay one night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We really liked how welcoming and helpful the owners were. They were able to provide information about local and further afield tourist attractions and made calls for us. They even made sushi and offered it to us.
Cons: If it was hotter I think our room could have done with an air-con unit. However, they did place a fan in there and we knew that we were booking a traditional Japanese room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: + The hospitality of Kana and Maggie. Love them both so much. They help me in everything, finding a cheap onsen, transportation, how to manage my itinerary and i guess everything when you seek their guidance.
Cons: + nothing on the hotel but just to give fyi to others. There's not much of a restaurant open in the evening so you will always end up in Lawson or 7eleven
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was extremly helpful. Like a lot. I lost my free pass and they helped me report to the police, called several train stations to make sure of my pass.. And how lucky am I, we found that one! They are so nice, make sure you have everything on your schedule, give suggestions and pretty much everything beside about the ameties in the hostel. You could use the washing machine, the small kitchen and stuff, and refill your coffee and tea as much as you want.
Cons: Unfortunately, this hotel do not afford the normal or cold water. You have to buy water bottle in convinient stores or you could use their hot water on the machine and wait it to cold.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff was great very kind and helpfull, location perfect, very happy
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very kind and helped us a lot. The common area was cosy and nice to hang out. Also a lot of onsen in the neighborhood. Location was nice, especially with the Hakone free pass.
Cons: We had a private room and there was only a fan, so it was a bit hot. But it was fine.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very friendly staff. Very happy chatting with them.
Cons: A bit pricy for what I got. Shared a room with three other couples.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff that knew so much about the area and what to do and where to eat.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view from the restaurant, room, and public osen were nice and relaxing to see
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: As a frequent traveler, I have stayed all fancy luxury hotels world wide , no hotels would charge me extra money for twenty minutes late check out , I just wasn’t aware of time and all I ask is 20 minutes more.... Not to mention my family ask for milk at the lobby, they were informed that milk is free only for 4th floor customers. they also being told 11:30 check out is for 4 th floor customers only. We understand that the fourth floor rooms are more expensive. But please don’t forget that we are also your customers. We also pay more than one thousand us dollars per night per room!!!!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding service. Excellent food an private onsen a real treat
Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: Very good setting, location and excellent food.
Cons: Service appears to be a bit distant. No attention to detail I experienced in other Ryokans in similar price point. Perhaps you really need Japanese frontline staff to make it feel authentic? Wifi in 1st floor rooms don't work and the staff didn't rectify even when they said they will.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is quite pricy, but for a reason. Super authentic Japanese style and perfect service. The open-air in-room hot spring tub gives you a perfect view and tranquility of bamboos and trees. Bed is HUGE. You can wear the kimono PJ while in the hotel, pretty immersive experience. The public hot spring cannot be reserved for single group use, but it is open for quite long hours, and you can easily find private time to enjoy. Kaiseki breakfast is spectacular and very fulfilling. You won't regret if you need to save money just for that one night.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The private onsen, the bed and the dinner were amazing
Cons: The checking process was not super well structured and the staff was not smooth
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the privacy and the relaxation aspects. The staff were so respectful and actually anticipated my needs before I articulated them. The room was enormous, well stocked and so comfortable.
Cons: The only thing I can think of, and it is minor, is that some staff had poor English and could not understand what we were asking. But this didn’t detract from the stay and they went above and beyond to ensure we had what we needed in the end.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Food, location, service, shuttle directly to the hotel from Hakone-Yumoto station.
Cons: Price might be a little high, but superb food, service and room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely spacious room with great facilities - tea/coffee machine, bar fridge, music system. Private onsen on the balcony and connecting glass door straight into the shower. Quiet and comfortable. Free shuttle to station in Hakone.
Cons: Nothing to dislike!

Cons: The breakfast was very average

Pros: The hotel staff are nice and helpful. The hotel has a nice ambience
Cons: Hotel restaurant has limited seats for the people checked in at the hotel. It causes inconvenience for late check ins.

Pros: Quiet and serene. Beautiful garden. Love the hot spring bath in our room. Room was spacious, clean and bed was comfortable.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Well managed facility with friendly staff. In room and communal onsen are excellent and meticulous!
Cons: Location is best accessed by self driving, although a shuttle is available.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The kindess of the staff was super! Very nice people and very helpfull. We lost an suitcase in a bus and they did everything they could to help us. the hotel was clean, with a nice onsen outside. Everything was clean.
Cons: I cant think of anything what i didn't like.
6.7 Good
Pros: I liked the outdoors area, very pretty. Room with personal hot spring was nice. The toiletries were nice, each person got a little bag of toiletries.
Cons: Definitely not worth the money. The hot springs area was ok. No extra touches. They had 3 beat up massage chairs outside and an area you could get massage but they were tables in open area blocked by a sheet. No gym. No use of hot springs if you have tattoos (Japanese culture, not really hotel’s fault). Food was ok.
5.4 Okay
Pros: SPA and Onsen facilities as well as breakfast
Cons: Not a great option for a family with children. We had the deluxe room with tatami area and the sleeping option for the kids with a rather thin mattress on the floor was not great. The price is really high to sleep on the floor. The room price is above 600 euro and not worth the room. The onsen in the room and SPA was good though. The breakfast was also good. Almost everything was in Japanese and the staff spoke little english but definitely tried.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed the spa in the hotel and the prices are reasonable.
Cons: If they can add more options to the western breakfast

Pros: The food was incredible. We informed them on booking we would like vegetarian food and it was varied, tasty and beautifully presented. A real highlight of the stay.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Overall a good experience of Japanese Inn with onsen and local food. Both dinner and breakfast are big meals with lots of sea food. It's a boutique hotel so pretty quiet. There's an half hour private onsen time for each room, which is good as it suit people like us who do not like to go nude public bathing.
Cons: The meal time is not very flexible, the dinner has to finish by 8pm.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The service was amazing! The staff was super accommodating, even bringing our dessert to our room so my kids and I had time to experience the onsen. We enjoyed the nice meals, the scenic view, and the traditional Japanese touches. It was a great experience for my whole family.
Cons: Everything was great! We weren’t sure how to order the coffee so more specific instructions on that would have been helpful.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Our room was very spacious and was a nice treat after the tiny rooms of Tokyo. The staff were very nice and helpful and the food was good. Enjoyed the private onsen included in the price.
Cons: -
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Polite and very helpful staff! Good facilities (we had everything we needed), good location (6 min walking from Gora Station). This is unique and cozy family ryokan with very friendly atmosphere
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place, good location near the Gora station. The stuff was very friendly. It is a nice Ryokan with great onsen that become private at night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a nice stay. The staffs are very hospitality. Strong recommend to family trip. The mountain View is significant.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was phenomenal and extremely kind! Wong (sorry might be incorrect spelling) was very helpful. The room was very spacious and the private onsen we booked at the end of the day was a good touch. We enjoyed the look and feel of the ryokan and it was cheaper than other locations. The location itself is close to Gora station and buses to other sights are straight forward/convenient. The set dinner/breakfast was good and they were able to accommodate for my partner who is vegetarian. I was absolutely stuffed. Seemed like traditional food which we typically did not eat, however it was a treat to try and an experience in itself. Although we only stayed one night, it was an enjoyable experience and relaxing!
Cons: I have no complaints! My partner mentioned it would have been nice to have other food options instead of a set menu. However, we enjoyed the food regardless and I think the set menu is part of the experience. As taste is subjective, this should be considered going in if you are not comfortable trying something else.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The private outdoor onsen which could be booked ahead was great. The food provided exceeded my expectations.

Pros: Modern, clean and very nice amenities.
Cons: everything is great except the buffet dinner not that good and their coffee too taste not good although their steak was delicious
7.5 Good
Pros: The hot tub on your own private balcony
Cons: Rooms at the back were noisy & small
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The cleanliness and the open air hot spring
Cons: No activities in the evening
6.7 Good
Pros: Very nice onsen, nice rooms, nice location
Cons: The concept of the dining/breakfast was a desaster and worse than one year ago. First, we stayed for 3 nights and almost the same food was served every day. The breakfast felt line in my time in the military. Very hectical and not relaxed at all. If you wanted a pan cake you had to wait up to 10minutes in the line. The same with the croissants. As we finally had our food we wanted, it took us 15min and we were very stressed. Fruits are very limited too... The dinner of the second night was veeery hectical, loud and soo uncozy!! We honestly were not able to enjoy the dinner at all...
7.1 Good
Pros: The Onsen was amazing and the staff were VERY friendly.
Cons: It was very expensive for one person - $1,000 for two nights. This might be an American thing, but I also found the pillows very hard and uncomfortable.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location is stunning, overlooking the lake. The hotsprings are beautiful. The buffet was good. If you can get a room with a private onsen, do it, its worth every penny! This property is away from the main town but we found it very relaxing.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good Japanese b/f and dinner, nice and clean facility
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very close to the cable car and bus station. Delicious buffet! All amenities were top notch, the staff can speak English and they’re very helpful. Highly recommend the suite with private tub on the balcony!
Cons: The layout of the building is confusing and you’ll have to walk a while if your room is in the furthest building.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: everything is good
Cons: the check out time is really early 10am

Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Loved our stay here. Full-on Ryokan experience with Onsen, Futon and Yukatas. Definitely go for the Half-Bord with dinner, it is highly recommendable! Such a nice experience!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Incredible private onsens - make sure you use these! The public onsen is great as well. Excellent Japanese style breakfast. There is a bus stop outside of the hotel that connects you directly with Odawara train station and Togendai (where the pirate ship and the rope way both depart). Buses come along quite regularly so we never had to wait long. Overall a great place to stay.
Cons: Beds and pillows were a little hard
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A fine hot springs hotel for those who want to splurge a little for a quality night stay. Both the complimentary Dinner & Breakfast had an abundance of variety and was tasty, while their Onsen was of course nice & relaxing. They also provide a nice souvenir shop for the returning traveler who needs to buy gifts for everyone on the last day of their trip. ^^;
Cons: I would probably say the location, as there isn't really all that much to do around the area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was very good-easy access to all amenities. Room clean, service excellent. Food superb - both dinner and breakfast. Onsen was amazing - we had the Medaka. Futon was a challenge for me but this was expected.
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: All was amazing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Personal, friendly service. Great food. Felt like luxury.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: In particular the private onsen - so good! Also the Japanese style room - beautiful. The bus stop to / from odawara station is right next to the property.
Cons: A blind behind the paper shutters would be good for the sleepers!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Traditional Japanese ryokan style, friendly staff, clean, AMAZING dinner, onsens clean.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Large traditional room with Tatami mats. Loved the private onsen with bamboo view. The public onsen was pretty quiet too. The food was out of this world. I’m sure if you paid for food like that in a restaurant it would be worth $200 on its own. Its definitely worth splashing out for a night.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: It was a lovely stay! We had a wonderful time and the staff was great. Perfect last night in Japan!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: the entrance of the hotel does not give justice to this hotel. the rooms are very nice and new and clean. the spring tub at the 6th floor is very beautiful and we enjoyed a lot. the staff is very kind and attentive.
Cons: we are not used to the rich Japanese breakfast... and for this reason we didn't appreciate it as we should have...
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location is just around the Hakone-Yumoto Station. The Front Staff are friendly and Follows up with your special request. They provide a special person to assist us for the room details and the dining arrangement as well. Check in and Check out we're smoothly done. We stayed in a room with our own open air-bath which is a Bonus for us, great experience and highly recommended for couple.
Cons: The female private bath is too small.
7.1 Good
Pros: Close to station and right in the river. We had a large room with great views the food was fantastic and we had so much of it, we were served by a wonderful lady for dinner and breakfast.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location is nice. Amazing facilities and incredible onsens. Lovely staff and really great food. But the best part are the kimonos set they offer to the guest to walk around the hotel.
Cons: Nothing to deslike there
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Have lived in different higher class ryokans around Hakone-sumitomo and Gora areas. Gora Kadan is the best experience I have ever had. The ryokan is built largely of wooden. The long corridor at lobby floor with wooden foldable doors on both side look fantastic. All the wooden structure and furnitures are well maintained. The rooms were clean and spacious. I booked 2 rooms, one with private hot spring. The outdoor hotspring is built like a garden. Looks really nice. The staff is very nice and helpful. This time, I travelled with my kids and also my mother. The hotel arranged a private dining room with higher chairs for us so that my mom could sit comfortably for the meals. Also, as my mom has to walk very slowly, we were late for some scheduled activities like dinner and breakfast. The staff was patient and waited for us politely. On the day we check out, it was a rainy date, they use two Benz luxury saloons to drive us to the train Station. The food is of very good quality. We have both sukiyaki and Shabu Shabu for the dinner. The kids are served with kids menu. While the starter and main course are delicious, the desert is also awesome - a hollow orange filled with orange jelly, an artwork in addition to its good taste. The facilities are good. My kids enjoyed the warm swimming pool very much (they really like to swim). Towels are ready for use at swimming pool side. My wife and I enjoyed the Kadan Spa, a relaxing experience. All in all, a very memorable experience for my family.
Cons: Suggest the swimming pool can open for kids at earlier time.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful experience nice food and people
Cons: Expensive and time of check in and check out is very streight 15 true 11
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Place was beyond amazing from the architecture to the food and just the whole experience actually!!! You really felt like you were transported in time. Love the complimentary kimono outfits too. Staff was incredibly nice and offered impeccalbe service! The traditional food being serviced in the room was such a wonderful, unique dining experience. My kids were so happy here too! Most unique hotel experience ever!
Cons: Toilet room had a slight smell but that could have been the sulfer smell from the hot springs maybe... Bed was also not very comfortable but I know that the low profile "futon" style is to make it look more traditional Japanese style but I would suggest they use a cool/breathable memory foam mattress type instead.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Private dinning in room - Excellent variation of dinner dishes and service. The private bath is also an experience you shouldn't miss.
Cons: maybe the resting rooms after the hot baths could be bit bigger
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely breathtaking property with amazing service. The dinner served in room was out of this world and a real experience. The public baths were a must also. Would be silly to miss out on these
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The attendant, staff, service, room, facilities and environment were fantastic.
Cons: The kaiseki dinner was abit underwhelming.

7.9 Good
Pros: Spacious Suite room with outdoor Onsen inside the room. Comfy beds.
Cons: Because facility is surrounded by woods, Suite room has an outdoor Onsen, must be careful to keep onsen door closed all time, to prevent insects. High humidity inside room too, dehumidifier is on all time
4.2 Okay
Pros: It had a nice view, and most members of the staff were smiling.
Cons: We were not impressed with the facilities. For the price, you’d expect an immaculately clean room and onsen, and that unfortunately wasn’t the case. I woke up in the morning to find a used bandaid stuck to the headboard of our bed. When I informed the receptionist an hour later at checkout, she responded with a disgusted face and didnt apologize. I paid 600 dollars to sleep there.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Food, staff, room all exceeded expectations
Cons: A bar may have been nice
7.5 Good
Pros: The staff are nice and the place are good
9.0 Excellent
Pros: When I entered this property's reception, I was amazed by the greenery outside of the big window. The property is located on the slope of the mountain. Therefore, it is surrounded by trees, which is super relaxing and pleasant. Breakfast and dinner are provided by the property as you would imagine it would be extremely difficult to find food on a mountain early in the morning and late at night. The breakfast was SO GOOD AND BIG. We just had breakfast and won't feel hungry until very late in the afternoon! The dinner was again very well prepared. My dad cannot eat seafood. The chef made special arrangement for him which is super considerable. The onsen experience was good as well in terms of the functionality. There are three private onsen rooms which you can use (first come first serve) whenever they are available. You can also lock the door. I didn't use it because there is only 1 shower head which won't allow two persons to shower at the same time. The public onsen is good enough though. Also, the property hosts only a very limited amount of rooms, so you won't bump into a huge crowd when using the public onsen The free shuttle service to the nearest train station was very helpful as well even though taking the bus is way easier and closer (literally 30 secs walk)!
Cons: There is really nothing I didn't like. However I think the hotel is quite aged so the onsen facilities look quite old. But it doesn't hurt anything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The different "onsen" options were fabulous. Private family onsen, public onsen and onsen bath in your room offer great options for whatever you are looking for. Meals were wonderfully arranged and delicious. Location is high up in the Hakone national park and in between two train stations. A bus stop right in front of the building make it most convenient to arrive.
Cons: We are still looking for things we didn't like. So far, everything was exceptional.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The kindness of the staff members and the massage were amazing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Breakfast was both Japanese and International, and both were excellent
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff is very helpful and friendly and the service is impeccable. The kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast are all very delicious.
Cons: Despite the insect netting over the windows, a few of the local bugs managed to get into our room in the evening. The hotel is not very central to the main tourist areas but is easily accessible by public bus.
7.1 Good
Pros: This is a very unique experience as it is not only accommodation, but also traditional dinner and breakfast is part of the package. The hotel is located in a wonderful place, surrounded by nature and calmness. There are small waterfalls right at the bottom of the building that create a great atmosphere. However if you are noise-sensitive, this can become a problem. Not our case though. Both dinner and breakfast are composed of Japanese meals so you have to be open-minded and never expect western food. This is part of the amazing experience.
Cons: I guess the hotel was built long time ago and may require some renovation, although this should not prevent you from spending a nice time there. Overall it is not cheap hotel, but the in-room bath as well as the dinner makes the difference.

7.5 Good
Pros: The staff and hospitality
Cons: Windows could have had better fly nets
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This 6 room Japanese onsen style hotel is a gem, slightly off the beaten path in Myanoshita, but with easy access to public transport so we used it as a base for enjoying the Hakone area. I understand the hotel was converted from an executive resort a couple of years ago. There is 1 non-Japanese style room which we ultimately decided to take mostly for the beds, but the Japanese rooms are also spacious. They have large common areas, hot baths and in-house dining which serves breakfasts and dinners included in the rate. Meals are outstanding in taste, quality and presentation.
Cons: WiFi service is poor in most areas of the hotel including the guest rooms so you have to work from the lobby. The hotel itself is at the top of a steep grade which makes it awkward for those travelling without a car. Although we found it a little less well cleaned than we have come to expect in Japan, it was still pretty good. There was also a bit of confusion with the reservation which increased cost for two people for two nites from 57,000Y to 87,000Y, all of which had to be paid in cash, but the experience and attentiveness of staff still left us feeling we had received good value.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The host was very warm and friendly. The hotel was easy to find even in the dark and a simple walk from Miyanoshita station. The food was generous and delicious. Wish we had more time to enjoy the rooms, views and onsen!
7.5 Good
Pros: The manager was helpful, instructions were spot on. We took the bus from Odawara station and it stops right at the bottom of the entrance at Kiga Onsen Iriguchi . Very nice welcome and very well presented evening meal at 6.30 pm . We saw no other member of staff , so presumably a very tiny operation .
Cons: Not much to do if you plan to stay one night. A bit out of the way, you'll have to take the bus to somewhere else. The hotel has seen better days and not good value for money with what we have experienced before on this trip and many times in Japan. Hard to picture from the reviews and descriptions in terms of location.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Mr Suga who is both professional and friendly, offered great help.
Cons: none

Pros: Sugar Sun is very nice man, the food and the room are superior, we’re really enjoy staying.

Cons: It is a bit tricky to access from the main cities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely peaceful place set on a hill, but easy access via bus or train. Wonderful dinner and breakfast, more food than I could eat. The private onsen was very nice and perfect after a day of seeing the sights. Highly recommend.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Good meals Staff is professional and cares a lot about customers' opinions
Cons: shared bathroom doesn't look very hygienic no sign of this hotel visible on the road quite hard to find If you have car will be good, very steep road to entrance

Cons: Very nice place to stay for a Week-end. It's peaceful and relax. We are very happy. One thing: the restaurant is closed early and we had to eat at the convenience store.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It’s closest yunessun.
Cons: Notthing
7.9 Good
Pros: It was in a good location. The staff were really nice. The rooms are big.
Cons: The hotel has almost a re purposed apartment feel. The rooms are dated but it didn't have an impact on my stay.
6.7 Good
Pros: Good position at the J Bus line, bus stop Verde no Mori (goes directly from Odawara to the hotel. With the same bus line it's possible to reach the ropeway or the cablecar station). With the J Bus it's even possible to go directly to Owakudani, from where you can see Mount Fuji. Shuttle to Gora station from the hotel for free if needed. Restaurants at Yunessun and the nearby (10 minutes by foot). Big room for Japan, with a balcony. And in our room wifi was even possible from the room (officially only in the lobby).
Cons: Dinner at the hotel very expensive and has to be booked one day in advance.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The in-house spa is remarkable.
Cons: This hotel is isolated. Dining options are impossible if your on a budget. There is absolutely nothing to do at night. Transportation is scant. And walking to the nearest civilization is over a mile.
7.9 Good
Pros: The breakfast, location and Yunessun passport. The free shuttle.
Cons: The restaurant was with reservation.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Big room with balcony. Breakfast ok, served in large restaurant with big windows, nice view to garden, mountains. Good onsen ( thermal bath ) facilities. Nice indoors pool. Free parking.
Cons: Old carpet. Old furniture. Old mattresses. Twin rooms only - no double bed rooms. Old bathroom equipment. We stayed in the west wing - they said the east wing is the same. Restaurant was active for breakfast only. A real problem to get dinner in this region. No shops or restaurants around.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: Place needs a complete refurbishment
4.6 Okay
Pros: room was spacious and staff was helpful
Cons: the hotel was in poor repair. plumbing fixtures were 40 years out of date. scrapes and patches everywhere. threadbare upholstery. we did not bother with the free breakfast after the first day. they replaced the towels each day, but did not even bother to make the beds. the phrase that comes to mind is ‘faded glory’.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast taste well, the room is very comfortable, and the hot springs are great too. In general, it's very satisfied.
